Ready to Charge at MPBL: The QUEZON CITY BLACK BULLS!

Wednesday, April 08, 2026

I've seen and heard about the Quezon City Black Bulls at the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League because of the support of Cong. Arjo Atayde (and how proud he is of them in past games). He's not the owner as we met the real one Mr. John Christopher Tan, but he thanked Arjo for his stern support even during pre season games.

With Coach JayV Olea, they led the Quezon City Black Bulls with players Rey Publico, Clark Derige, Patrick Buena, Jake Agoncilio, Kenz Diokno, Kobe Monje, Ryan Costelo, Aeron Bagunu, Aldave Canoy, MJ Joson, Charles Dela Cruz, Jay Gadon, Joe Joven, Kai Espinosa, Bryan Rosalin, Joeben Loria, JR Lastra, Jaydee Del Rosario, Gab Salazar, Joshua Roque and Jeff Morillo. Mind you, some of them have joined the team recently because of the open try outs they held last March. Most of them are from Gardner College and a few are individually chosen because of their experience and talent on the hard court. They also played in the D1 League versus a few teams and did outstanding work with a 4-4 win loss slate.

They're pretty much ready for what's about to happen during the MPLB regular season. Team owner John Tan and Coach JayV Olea are optimistic that they're going to perform well because they are taking the upcoming games seriously. First one in fact is with Caloocan which did good last season, so even in Holy Week they had to go back and practice early.

Here's what happened at the media conference:

The testosterone level and height was so high during this event, but I see how much fire they have in their eyes because they're coming in as the new guys, nothing to prove, but just do their best once the games begin.

Support them by following their FB page and the MPBL league at their games around the Philippines. Games are free to watch so go ahead and fill the gyms to the brim. Stand behind our very own Quezon City Black Bulls as they try their best in getting that Championship crown!

MPBL’s Skyscrapers Now Makati Super Crunch

Monday, November 05, 2018

Spent morning at posh DasmariƱas Village in Makati to witness the announcement of MPBL’s Makati Skyscrapers as they change their name to Makati Super Crunch as the Paolo Orbeta owned team forges their partnership with PriFood and its owner Enrico Yap Jr.

Makati Skyscrapers will now be Makati Super Crunch

Super Crunch is one of the country’s leading cornchip product and according to Mr. Orbeta “We are so elated for the support and trust that Super Crunch is giving the Makati Team and this just going to make us work harder and play even better so we can make them proud of us whenever we dont the Makati Super Crunch Jersey.” The Co-Owner Paolo Pineda says “This will make us strive for the coveted championship as our men reach for that goal in this coming series. Make sure you watch us as we are now supported by Super Crunch.”

Team Manager Martin Arenas adds “I don’t know if we can divulge this but Super Crunch does also has plans to enter the PBA in the next few years so we can support national teams and other sports. For the meantime, our partnership  will be long, and now we have a new logo, new look and they will be part of the legacy of our team from Makati."

"We are looking forward to support MPBL, Volleyball and other sports. The game plan is to find the good partner, like what they mentioned they are here for the long haul and was a long decision. Super Crunch is working hard to be available nationwide because we already have been available in Cebu and Davao, Makati just made us comfortable. We have been in the business for 20 years, we will grow with them."

Make sure support them on this season’s MPBL and support the feisty Makati Super Crunch team!

Makati Skyscrapers Ready for MPBL

Sunday, June 17, 2018

They say strong men maketh strong institutions, this might have been their hope. The Datu Cup is fast approaching and MPBL has been able to garner traction in the few months since it's inception. Of course that would mean only one thing, the franchise would grow bigger, and with that other cities and provinces that have shown interest in the beginning have now materialized and eventually, joined this league. One of them is the MAKATI SKYSCRAPERS.

Coach Cholo Villanueva says "We only had 1 month preparation, we are a young team so expect more quick plays, running, gunning from the outside. Mark Isip, Rudy Lingganay and the others will be leading the team. We will use our youth to our advantage. We are representing Makati and we want to be number one, we want this championship. For us, we wanted players to prove something. Like for instance they want to play for the pros, of they have that attitude they will succeed. We didn't want to cram, yes we had little lead time but this is a young team. We have a level playing field and it is an equal opportunity for everyone to shine."

Team Manager Martin Arenas says "Our City Mayor gave her full support, our court has been refurbished, every game we have medical teams on stand by. They also provide security on home games. Even if I am the current Barangay Chairman, I can still get to manage the team, it's just time management and I know it's in my blood to love serving the people and basketball which has long been my passion. I wouldn't choose one or the other, I will choose both. Our only goal is to be champion."

With a promising lineup of young basketball talents from Makati and around the country, a solid management team and coaching staff, the MAKATI SKYSCRAPERS will surely be vying for the top prize in this coming DATU Cup. Clearly, the MPBL has been able to take advantage of hometown audiences and this season's 26 teams will be battling it out in gripping fashion. Make sure you get to see these games as they've chosen some very talented individuals that could have been playing in the pros, which hopefully their exposure here would result too. This is a great break for all of them I'm sure.

Cheers to MAKATI SKYSCRAPERS!
