A Plea to Get Movie Goers Back to Cinemas: SRR Evil Origins Showcase Stars for MMFF

Saturday, November 22, 2025

Just got out of the Gateway cinemas to cover the grand press conference of Shake Rattle and Roll Evil Origins, a Regal Entertainment entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. The producers Ms. Roselle Monteverde and Atty. Keith Monteverde went up on stage and told us about this big project and how it was mounted despite several challenges in doing another Shake Rattle and Roll movie.

They required it to be not just different, but connected as far as episodes go. They needed 3 writers and 3 directors to do this and separated them like period films, one takes place in 1775, 2025 and 2050. They also had an ensemble of actors to portray the various characters included in the film. During the press conference, they introduced themselves and expressed how thankful they were just by being part of the iconic horror franchise. Speaking of iconic, one of the films original actress was making a comeback particularly Ms. Manilyn Reynes (who appeared in the Aswang episode of the second installment). Popular loveteams JMFyang, FranSeth is also a part of this film, which would be a litmus test to see if they'd carry the film in its entirety. People were screaming in the cinema with the mere mention of their names, not surprised and hope this equally means they're going to rush to theaters this Christmas too.

FranSeth felt pressured to do good especially since they were able to surprise folks with last year's MMFF entry from the same production. This project is also one of many movies that Richard Gutierrez will be doing with Regal, so staty tuned for the next ones to be released soon. Ms. Annabelle Rama and Zion was in the audience to support him, a touching sight (as I was at their back during the talk).

Here's what happened on video:

While the movie and the rest of the entries are preparing for battle on Christmas Day for the Metro Manila Film Festival, their goal always has been to make sure people would go back to pre pandemic levels of people watching local films. They have the material, the star power and production that can do good, and they hope you'd give them the attention they deserve on MMFF season, and beyond on digital!

Ken Chan Blooms on Afternoon Prime as Destiny Rose

Sunday, September 13, 2015

Tomorrow, September 14, 2015, a new program will bloom its way into your GMA laden TV screens as they bring you a new soap starring Ken Chan as he plays the role of Joey Flores Vergara also known as Destiny Rose. Ken Chan has already appeared in several soap operas, GMA shows and commercials but has yet to land a lead role for a soap. This opportunity came in the right time as the actor/tv host/singer and commercial model wanted to challenge himself even further and accepted this role as a trans-sexual woman. This is also sort of groundbreaking because in the history of television, we haven't really had a trans-sexual woman as a lead character. Ken Chan takes this as an opportunity to show people what he's got. We have interviewed him in the past and he's done wonders in his shows and albums, he's definitely in unfamiliar territory so seeing how he does wonders in afternoon prime show may be the answer to catapult him to shine brighter, as we truly hope so.

They'll start to unravel the story by showing his humble beginnings. It's not as easy as people might think. As you might have seen in the trailers, being a woman trapped in a man's body didn't fare quite well with his parents. Manilyn Reynes plays Daisy, Joey's Mom. She learned a little later on how the predicament of Joey Flores Vergara and learned to accept it. However, his policeman father Lito (played by Joko Diaz) had a different future in mind. He wanted him to be a General some day, and discovering all the glitter and glamour happening inside his kid wasn't going to be taken lightly. I believe it would have mirrored the old Filipino society where sexuality they weren't born with were shunned. Still, Joey Flores Vergara stayed the achiever that he was and has drawn accolades in school and everywhere else he's gone to.

Did that solve his problems at home? How did he become Destiny Rose? How does her story start and Joey's end? Well that's exactly what you have to find out this Monday right after Buena Familia on GMA's Afternoon Prime. Follow @GMADestinyRose on Twitter for more updates!
