TV5 and PBA Partners Up with A2Z For More Basketball Action

Wednesday, October 18, 2023

When they say that they're changing the landscape of television, they sure mean to do it. Recent pronouncements from TV5 indicate huge changes especially about their airing of PBA Games in the channel. They partnered up with A2Z to become their newest free to air avenue especially for locations covered by them.

This certainly was the fruit of the successful staging to the FIBA Basketball World Cup in the country, plus the win of Gilas Pilipinas in both SEA Games and Asian Games (remember that historic Gold?). Now Filipino sports fans will have choice where to watch their home grown professional basketball teams when games start.

This is after all the 48th year of PBA, and the goal is to bring the PBA Games to even MORE homes as possible. This ensures that not only will there be access to games at TV5, but more of the LIVE broadcast of PBA Games in this new free to air channel. After all, they're the Philippines premier basketball league. Zoe Broadcasting VP and GM Rene Gonzales notes of this exciting venture and took delight on the variety they could do with the programming which is now in their court. Having PBA as part of their lineup surely will open up a lot of possibilities for the channel and what they could do in the near future. It will all start on November 5th, and will be broadcasted every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday thereafter. They are also in the workds to do something for the PBA D League and 3x3 where the Philippines is strong.

Meanwhile, you can still enjoy the games on Cignal TV and Cignal Play. You now have options!

PBA Starts LIVE Audience and Broadcast on TV5

Wednesday, February 23, 2022

After a little heartbreak hearing Alaska being on the verge of leaving the league, hearing the crowd will be back in games was big news. This will all happen on PBA Governors Cup as the metro stays on Alert Level 2 and the league willing to go have 50% venue capacity, all happening this week. The theme this time is "Tayo ang Bida, Tuloy ang Laban".

For those who love the games, they'll be having double shows on Wednesday to Sunday and it will all be covered by TV5 and One Sports where you can watch it from the comforts of your home. If you prefer the live games, you can start getting tickets over at the Araneta Coliseum ticket office when the games happen live.

Magnolia Hotshots is still the team to beat since they haven't had any losses. Meralco Bolts and NLEX Road Warriors follow closely with some of their players dishing out the best plays in the league coming from the national pool veterans and good rookies. The transfers of Arwind Santos to Northport, Alex Cabagnot to Terrafirma  and Chris Banchero to Meralco Bolts might affect the standings soon, plus the new imports... so don't get your hopes up yet even if you've got a comfy lead, it can change anytime soon.

There's more to watch out for in the coming weeks, so if you don't have the time to go there live, go get your basketball fix from TV5 as the official broadcaster of the league promises thorough coverage every game day. You can watch it too on One Sports and PBA Rush on Cignal. Follow their social channels too for blow by blow accounts of the games when it happens on the PBA.

Basketball Stars Support Gilas Coach Yeng Guiao

Monday, April 01, 2019

Coach Yeng Guiao is the current Team Pilipinas (Gilas) and NLEX Road Warriors coach. Unbeknownst to most of his sports fans, he’s running for office at the 1st District of Pampanga. He sat down happy to see some of the NLEX Road Warrior players show support in his bid for the said office. Took note of his statements this afternoon.

“I have been a coach for 2 and a half years, in different teams, 7 championships in the PBA and also made the world cup with Gilas Pilipinas. We are preparing for the World Cup in China, where the best of the best will meet. These are good teams but we hope to pull some upsets. There are 4 teams in a group and if we win two games, we are going high in the rankings. Angola is the African champ, Italy and Serbia is world ranked. This time I have a different challenge, to represent the 1st District of Pampanga. I have ran for 3 terms as a Vice Governor of Pampanga, so I have both basketball and politics all my life. This is a challenge, in any way or form, I have an advocacy to have continuous improvement of the Clark Airport which is in my district. We now have more tourists, bills and resolutions have been passed. We now have a new terminal, there are other items like the North Rail too, hopefully work it out so we can run from Tutuban to there and be finished in two years. Clark is also the sports capital of the country, in hosting the SEA Games, this will be true. We have been pushing for this ever since. Hopefully this will benefit much of my constituents, together with the usual things they need for education, health, and life. Clark is progressing because all the places around it us benefiting from it now. We are also doing a lot in improving the educational system, and the health advocacy. The new law applied for universal health care is one example, we support that fully and hopefully we find ways to improve that.”

He adds “Since I am in Basketball I am focused on it but I am a sports fan and enthusiast, to improve the other sports in general is part of that. We need to make every sport especially the ones we excel at be done and officiated better. We want to promote sports with weight categories because we have a lot of talent. I am one of the main authors of giving bigger rewards for sports winners. It is what is being used today. Funding is of course a problem, other countries are spending more but my take is that to concretely make this better, we filed to do an existing law to get 5% of gross to go to sports. Right now, 2.5% is sent to law, while the other half goes to the office of the President and nobody challenged it but I did. I am still waiting for the decision, that is 13-15 Billion pesos and it would be a big help in the yearly income of sports for that. In order to answer to solve it, we need to have that reinstated.”

“Clark has 120,000 employees, improvement of educational system and making them a part of that plus run for more investments in the district will make it a whole lot better. Living a healthy and active lifestyle is the best thing to have rather than us waiting to get sick. I will support legislations to improve the environment. If I win the district, I will still be coaching, I don’t believe we have to stop as long as we can do both. Being disciplined in the management of your time, in basketball and legislation, I have already done that in the last few years and we didn’t have a problem in commitments because I have done both. Politics and Sports have similarities, you cannot go to a game or office unprepared. There are also intrigues, but you have to be emotionally stable, you will see bashers, the pressure is great and you can lose your job. You are only as good as your last term or game, it is part of our job and we have to accept that. It is a competition, you are joining the PBA for results, same with your district, coaching for 30 years, I have seen how it happens and I can focus on service for constituents. It is both stressful, one is for 48 minutes, the other for 3 years. I constituents asking for help 24/7 and you get used to it, to handle it. I am under a local party.”

National Team regular Asi Taulava says “In international competitions, our team, it’s a different game. Our coach as a congressman can boost that. We are all rooting for him.”

Kieffer Ravena says “The short time I have been with them, he is very genuine. He says it when you need to improve on, every opportunity he gets to help in the youth of Pampanga. In my scenario, it would have been easy to let me go but they supported me, it helps to have leaders who gives you confidence to do your own thing. A lot of players know and want to play for him, to become the best person possible, he does it a lot. He makes students be in their best position, I am open to help in his campaign. I believe in what he is fighting for, not because he is my coach, but his sincerity, if he gets elected Pampanga will be benefiting from it.”

“I don’t want to burden them, we have games, it is very important and we want to take ourselves far in this conference. I am concentrating on getting to the finals, when we get there I’ll seek their help in activities. For now we are doing that first.” the coach added.

The Ginebra San Miguel Ganado Classics Jersey Collection

Wednesday, May 03, 2017

I just got off the PBA Cafe in Metrowalk Ortigas for the launch of Ginebra San Miguel Ganado Classics Jersey Collection Promo. Who would have known (unless you're a die hard Ginebra fan of course) that this never say die brand has been in the country for over 30 years and is still living that spirit. Now, fans have the chance to get their own jerseys that defined what GINEBRA is today.

They did the arduous task of finding 5 significant moments and players in the past 30 years to let you be a part of history too. Imagine owning a JAWORSKI 7 First Edition NSD jersey, DAVID 1 for the Ginebra Na!, CAGUIOA 47 for Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings Edition, and recently the THOMPSON 6 Jersey of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. Take part in getting all these jerseys and be part of the moments where the Ginebra spirit lives. As Ginebra San Miguel Brand Manager Paulo Tupaz puts it, "Fans can now relive the Ginebra San Miguel Team's historic moments as these jerseys represent notable players from different Ginebra eras. From the time Jaowrski started everything to the new generation gin kings, you'll truly feel you're part of the never say die legacy" and this is true.

OMG it's Bal David in the flesh!

If you want to get one just buy any GSMI Product and every 5 caps of Ginebra San Miguel, Vino Kulafu or 3 Caps of GSM Blue, GSM Blue Flavors and Primera Light Brandy entitles you to get these jerseys for only Php 100. Isn't that awesome? I think they're almost giving it away for free in that price point. All these jerseys will feature two patches to make sure you're only getting the authentic one, so head on to your favorite supermarkets, convenience stores and outlets nationwide! Head on to Facebook.com/barangayginebra  www.ginebra.com.ph to know more about it. You can also call them at 6322564.

In the meantime, I'll be playing these games with the Ginebra players first! Wish me luck hahaha!

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

It was a little troublesome to actually do it this weekend because typhoon Lando and a 5.2 earthquake happened. Nevertheless, the show must go on and they're doing it in big fashion this Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Concentrating on the theme "Liga ng mga Bida", they're up to show the Filipino basketball fans the heart, the courage, the skill they put into every game this season. Live performances from the current Asia's Got Talent Champion El Gamma Penumbra, runner up Junior New System will shock and awe audiences when it opens tomorrow. PBA Philippine Cup Opening Day - ONE PBA, ONE PHILIPPINES!

Saturday, December 14, 2013

The country's premier professional basketball league just got better when we witnessed it a couple of weeks ago in Araneta Coliseum. It was also the first time that the league will have opening ceremonies in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It is after all a national thing so it is but right to see it executed in Manila, Cebu and Davao. Wish I was in Cebu at this time because the production numbers were awesome there, in Davao too. TV5 was streaming this LIVE on public TV so bless them! Now Filipinos would be able to watch the games right in front of their couches as it happens!

The PBA Board of Governors were introduced one by one. I personally know some of them from the companies that they represent.

Meralco Bolts had their muse walking to center stage, represented by Bianca Reyes and Stephanie Rowe together with their Team Captain Jared Dillinger. Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters on the other hand had Chanel Morales and Danielle Lee. Alaska Aces walked with pretty 2013 Mutya ng Davao Pia Hidalgo flanked by their Team Captain Tony Dela Cruz. Rain or Shine came in with current 2013 Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific together with glamour boy Chris Tiu and Jireh Ibanes. Air21 Express had Team Captain Asi Taulava escorting Lauren Young. Barako Bull Energy Cola had Ms. Earth 2012 Teresa Fajksova.

The Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

DSC_0011

The PBA has been the undisputed number one professional league in the Philippines and probably carries this title also in Southeast Asia. No matter how much they are succeeding in the Philippines and this region, they continue to fight for one thing in particular. It's the thing that they are good at which in this case is Basketball. I remember the time they were holding summer clinics for underprivileged kids/athletes in the metro via Coca Cola Hoopla, but now they are partnering with PBA on this task and dubbing it as the Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars! Coca-Cola knows that the PBA is the right agency to hold grassroots programs since they are the authority when basketball is concerned in the country.

DSC_0002

To fill them with love and happiness that they deserve, plus education and camaraderie through sports, they will certainly achieve more if they tie up with institutions like the PBA. In the Philippines, every corner of every street probably has a basketball court and the love, passion for it is unquestionable. Dreaming to play for a professional basketball team is in every mind of a Filipino kid. Commissioner Chito Salud and Powerade Team Governor Mr. Ronnie Asuncion signed a 3 year MOA for Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars league. This will entail youth ages 13 to 16 years old to join the said competition and hold separate regional events throughout the country. Try outs are now currently scheduled with an estimated 3 localities in each region. An estimated 1,500 players this summer will pit against each other and end via a National Finals Game slated May 27, 2012. The tournament will officially open May 2, 2012.

“We are very grateful for this opportunity to reach out to the Filipino youth in collaboration with the country’s premier sports organization. Through the Coca-Cola PBA Young Stars League, we will be able to directly share in the PBA’s vision of encouraging the Filipino youth to become good citizens through sportsmanship, honesty and integrity,” said Powerade Team Governor Ronnie Asuncion.

The Powerade Tigers will also be doing some appearances. PBA will solely handle the league but Coke will  be the sole sponsor, they have started April 21 to April 30 for the tryouts. This is in part of Coca Cola's 100 years celebration in the Philippines.

Although Coke's Hoopla and Batang PBA programs will be gone, this new grassroots program will be integrated to their initiatives. Players will be coming from all over the Philippines. In the Nationals there will be only 2 teams left from NCR, then 1 each from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. This is a long term partnership thrust of the two entities to promote healthy, active living to the youth; as well as build values of sportsmanship, honesty and integrity. Congratulations to the Philippine Basketball League and Coca Cola for this wonderful project!
