Meeting a Beauty Queen: Dia Nicole Magno

Monday, May 27, 2019

Sat down with a gorgeous Bb. Pilipinas candidate named Dia Nicole Magno (Binibini #39). Just like any Filipino, I love watching pageants and root for anyone who represents our country. This year just feels different because the competition just became a little tougher. The standards are higher especially after getting the country copped the Miss Universe crown last 2015 and 2018 with Pia Wurtzbach Alonzo and Catriona Gray. Dia hails from Butuan City in the Caraga Region. Unbeknownst to a lot of people, the province is so rich in culture, where tons of interesting and world class tourist spots and landmarks abound - but have yet to be discovered. It is ready to be seen by both local and international audiences, she proudly tells us about it.

Take a look at her home town Butuan City and the Caraga Region:

Preparing for Binibining Pilipinas, she says "I don’t have any special workout, I just haven’t eaten pork or beef, just chicken and fish all the time. You have to work on yourself more once you get in, I'm glad I got lots of training in Ateneo. We have oral recitation and public speaking so it’s an advantage. The pre pageant already started but there’s a closed door interview because they want to know you. This year’s theme is Beyond Beauty.”

About the ME generation she says “Maybe there’s an advantage, to love ourselves, to express ourselves freely, but not to not connect with people around us and not just because society dictates it. We have to be very compassionate, not to take someone’s life, you have to think of men, women, maybe the government should work on their ideas, to educate the youth and elders, if they are going to be able to do something about it, then it will be good for the youth. I’m happy the administration is doing good in rehabilitating several tourist spots and making people aware about it (referring to Boracay).

About her being single, she says "I’ve never had a boyfriend, but I don’t think being single defines us as a person. Being part of this, I know I have already helped a lot of people and this is unforgettable. I have been able to talk to people who have been able to hear about my advocacies.

She has her fair share of bashers, she has seen it online but honestly, I would prefer you to get to know her even more. She has a mission and has been working with organizations and local government agencies that could further her cause. The genuine things she does to help schools in her community, the drive to let more people discover what Butuan and the Caraga Region has to offer, mean she cares, and that counts for a real queen.

Support Binibining Pilipinas #39 Dia Nicole Magno as accorded by her merits. She deserves it!

GILAS PILIPINAS: FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Thursday, June 30, 2016

This is it! I can't wait! We've already won the rights to host the FIBA Olympi Qualifying Tournament this 2016 and we're raring to go where no Filipino has gone before (well we did in 1936 and the years thereafter) but it's been a while since we've actually had a basketball team on the world map. We've done the legwork, we've conquered huge teams and placed 1st Runner Up in FIBA Asia Qualifiers. We've beaten world ranked countries and taken Gilas Pilipinas out there, impressing even the best people in the industry... and this is our chance to bring back that glory we've been longing for.

They've already announced the final 12 players, and we've seen the exhibition games happen in other countries. As they all come home and be joined by the rest of the country, Gilas Pilipinas will attempt to win that single slot and overcome a lot of other countries to make it there.

Our first touch of eurasian country Turkey will happen on July 1 at 7PM. This is just a tune up game yet a great venue to gauge how we'll fare with other countries when it comes to the real thing on July 5-10, 2016. The other qualifiers will happen in cities like Turin, Italy and Belgrade, Serbia. The Philippines will be pit against France, New Zealand and whoever is going to rank top in those dates. Games will be at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and it will be shown live on the happiest network in the country, TV5 with updates from Sports 5 PH too.

Gilas Pilipinas' Final 12 is composed of Jayson Castro, Ranidel de Ocampo, Troy Rosario, Ryan Reyes, Gabe Norwood Jeff Chan, June Mar Fajardo, Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar, Terrence Romeo, Andray Blatche and Bobby Ray Parks Jr. Unfortunately L.A. Tenorio and Calvin Abueva are out. This was announced by Tab Baldwin before their tune up game with China in Italy. The coach was adamant declaring it was because of numbers that they decided to choose the roster but I'm sure they were NOT short of HEART. Make sure you'll be there and purchase tickets at SM Tickets (https://smtickets.com/). Ticket prices go as much as Php 14,945 for VIP, Php 12,810 for Patron, Php 10,675 for Lower Box, Php 430 for Upper Box and Php 215 for General Admission (as seen on site).

Bring your hearts, let's all cheer behind Gilas Pilipinas and say "Laban Pilipinas! Puso!" (Fight Philippines! With all your heart!).

Gilas Road to Glory: Philippines VS Iran on TV5

Saturday, June 04, 2016

It's a tall order, but someone's got to do it. This June 8 at 7pm, be one with the whole nation as team Gilas Pilipinas battles it out with team Iran in our road to glory for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Getting this goal would eventually secure us with a slot to the Rio Olympics. They're already doing the legwork now as most of our Gilas players and Andre Blache undergo strict world class training under Coach Baldwin who made us take those necessary steps to become one of the strongest teams in Asia!

Road To Glory will officially happen on Junr 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and will be televised live on the happiest network in the country TV5. We're one of the few teams that are up to be able to beat Iran as it was earlier proven possible in the FIBA Asia Championships. That close game, was certainly not the story they were actually expecting because in a nutshell, IRAN has ranked higher in the world and has been consistently playing in the Olympics for quite some time. If we've been able to give them a scary Finals round even if we're not in our own turf, that's going to be another story this time around. The Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be happening in our own land, which means Gilas Pilipinas will have one more advantage, the Filipino people and the heart of a country that's stronger because it all happens right here in our turf. It gives the Philippines no space to prove itself, but a moment to be proud, be the 6th man and conquer even BIGGER opponents that we have ever met to get to Brazil.

There will also be tune up games versus Turkey come July 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Turkey along with other countries like Canada, Senegal, France and New Zealand will be here for the games abd we'll be expecting more world class games happening in the next few weeks. You should get tickets now through Ticketnet 911-5555 or their website www.ticketnet.com.ph. Never miss the action on TV5 and sports5.ph because it is all going to be there. Bring your heart to these games!
