SM Launches "Art for Everyone" Today!

Saturday, February 27, 2016

Today is a good day for art and SM is going to celebrate it with established and new artists in a two day art fair called "Art for Everyone". It will be held simultaneously today Feb 27 until tomorrow the 28th in SM City North Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Aura, SM Southmall, SM City Cebu and SM City Lanang in Davao. This is also in part of the celebration of National Arts Month on it's 25th year since it was put into law in 1991. SM is continuing to support the local art scene and this is the first time to ever do it in 6 malls at the same time. Now, more people would be able to see how talented Filipinos are since this is in a larger venue plus it can be viewed free.

Curator Dr. Patrick Flores says "It is important to broaden the access to contemporary art. It'll give the public a better feel of these emerging artists, their work, and the galleries they belong to. We have been supporting them as they have a track record of professionalism and we cannot discount the fact that Filipino artists are world class!"

The "Art for Everyone" exhibit is organized in collaboration with Dr. Patrick Flores, Ms. Louise Marcelino of UP Vargas Museum and Mr. Peter Natividad of the Lopez Museum. Oh and yes, some of the pieces are up for sale so if you're collecting this might be a good place to discover worthy art. Open mall hours today, so see it!

Rock & Seoul Bibimbap Bar at SM The Block

Saturday, January 23, 2016

There's a new restaurant that opened at the Ground Floor of The Block in SM North Edsa. They've made it like a new strip of some sort that would probably cater to the more growing crowd in the area. Management probably had a hand choosing tenants as they've put up some pretty new brands instead of just the veterans they had inside their other malls. That's a step in a new direction. If you've heard of the Relish Group, (the ones who also owns Wee Nam Kee, Osaka Osho and Kumori Japanese Bakery) this is an original restaurant concept they call Rock & Seoul Bibimbap Bar.

The premise is easy. You choose the meat, the veggies that come with it, then the sauce. If you prefer the "easier" way, they've got specially prepared Bibimbap varieties that you would love. Thing is, they're not serving the usual too. It's more of like fusion, like east meets west. Still, it would be in Bibimbap form.

You've got the usual Banchan, with Kimchi, Chicken Salad, Korean Soy Fried Chicken, Cold Pickle/Noodle Salad too. This would be a thing that would go nice with your Bibimbap so instead of eating it all up, I suggest you leave some for later use.

They serve everything in a hot plate so they have paper shields reminiscent of other restaurants you may know who have them. As with any Bibimbaps, they have rice in the center, the whole enchalada on the sides, then the special sauce on the table which you can put in generously over your Bibimbap.

I thought this was Bulgogi but no, this is actually Bistek Bibimbap which is part of their Signature Baps. If you don't prefer to build a Bibimbap of your own, you can order these on the menu. They don't hold back on garlic as you can see, so this should be good.

This is my favorite, the Mexican Taco. It's got all the essentials in a usual taco plus corn and carrots on the side. Make sure you put in a generous amount of sauce on the rice while it's hot because this is good, really good that I am saying this is my favorite of all the things they have in the store.

This is what they call American Breakfast. You have the Potato hash, Bacon, Hamburger patty, Egg, Cucumber and Carrots. This should be ordered by people who would want to have something more filling, as it's carbs and protein mainly.

This is the Original Bibimbap. They've got the usual stuff, veggies, got Spinach which I love!

This is the Korean Fried Chicken Bibimbap. It's got those yummy breaded chicken breast pieces, fried until golden brown, mixed with the usual veggies. You've got the house sauce on the table so make sure you put it on generously, you're basically dousing it so it won't be too hot (since it is on a sizzling plate) and also making it a tad sweeter for doing that. I like this too but if I were to choose between this and the Mexican Taco, I'd go with that.

I've had lots of Bibimbap in different restaurants, some are better than these but if you think about the price, this is way affordable. You can also customize which in my books is something that other restaurants don't offer. You get affordable but quality food, that is something you should really take note of. Go visit them at the ground floor of SM The Block right in front of the SM Hypermarket. They are on the left side, you shouldn't miss it. 3.5/5.

Lee Min Ho's Gangnam Blues

Wednesday, March 04, 2015

Watched the premier of Gangnam Blues this evening and I'm literally writing this right after we went out of the theater. It's premier was shown in a special theater called Sine Asia that will only be seen in select SM Cinemas.

They tagalized the whole film and it was quite long at approximately 2 and a 1/2 hours long of how the Gangnam district came about. Although characters and situations were fictitious, I think there's a huge connection between this film and how Gangnam is being perceived by the South Koreans today. Anyway, Lee Min Ho was absolutely brilliant. His co star too. I won't suggest this be seen by teens and think this should have had at least an R rating. There are body parts seen, like you know.

Anyway, this Sine Asia project of SM and Viva International would really be a good venue to see more Asian films from Thailand, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. This premiere was a huge success and of course, I think the fans loved it a lot. It's PG 16 right now and if your parents come with you, you should watch it. Do not watch this without adult supervision.

The other films lined up though especially the one by Chow Yun Fat was really funny, I'd watch that too. As for watching Gangnam Blues, it's totally worth it. A bit tragic though. I don't wanna spoil anything so I'm a little careful now.

Thank me later!

Plastic Bags Turned Into Artwork; Wins Awards for SM Eco Bag Campaign

Monday, September 08, 2014

Leigh Reyes of Lowe Philippines

SM Prime Holdings and Lowe Philippines just opened an ecologically apt exhibit at the ground floor of SM Aura Premier a few days ago. The SM Eco Bags campaign has won several accolades abroad, apart from that, they also launched this exhibit that makes plastic bags into publicly displayed art.

The event was graced by Mr. Hans Sy of SM Prime Holdings
While SM is the biggest retail giant in the country, they also felt it was time to steadfastly campaign for this cause and sure enough, they made it quite interesting by lashing out 3 artworks that would represent the campaign starting with the plastic bags which mostly caused floods during Typhoon Yolanda. They made really good ones as seen below.

What they now plan to do is ask everyone to contribute more plastic bags for a 4th art piece so they placed a box right front and center of the exhibit in the hopes of getting them something even bigger as part of this project.

List of awards for the campaign
As mentioned earlier, they won awards for this campaign and they are crediting this to the stern support they are getting from everyone who helped buy the SM Eco Bags and also those who donated for the cause. Mind you, they won a Silver Lion and Bronze Lion from the Cannes Lions Awards which is like the Oscars for public relations held in France. The campaign bested thousands of entries from around the world.

To know more about the campaign, please visit their channels below. Or the Lowe Philippines Facebook page. It only takes a few minutes to understand what it's all about. Do your share in helping the Philippines become a little greener than when you found it.

SM Lifestyle Entertainment Incorporated

Monday, March 24, 2014

Sorry but I didn't know it was going to be a showcase when SM Lifestyle Incorporated invited us one afternoon. They did it in a GRAND way! They closed down Mall of Asia Arena and got all their divisions in one place. It was spectacular!

We were first handed this e-PLUS Digital e-PLUS TapToPay card to get into their promos. You'll also get small surprises from each booth. I must say, that was a real cool way of learning how to use it!

This is the e-Plus Tap to Pay card. They say this is safe, reloadable and you can use it as good as cash in more establishment this year. This is the same technology as with the ones in other countries and can work even when it's inside your wallet. Payments can be done in as fast as 3 seconds and can store your up to 32 records/memberships in establishments whether retail, parking, vendo machines, food or transport. Something good to look forward to in the future is they are planning full implementation of this mall wide!

This means that whether you are going to SM Cinema, IMAX Theater, Director's Club, WM Cinemas, SM Tickets, Mall of Asia Arena, SM Science Center, SM Bowling or Snack Time, you can get in to these establishments just by tapping your preloaded card and don't go through the pain of crazy rituals in payment schemes.

They also have opened up their doors in all these other entities so that you get to feel when you are in an SM Lifestyle Incorporated establishment. They also gave fun stuff, good food and surprises to lucky attendees with some as big as 5 LED TV's! If you wish to customize things, tell them to make you cards just like SM's e-Plus Tap To Pay and enjoy seeing your brand on it. They can make something for your corporation and that's really neat. They can also provide special discounts and even get your system made this high tech! That's exactly how it feels when these great celebrities from GMA experienced it that afternoon.

Included in photo are Steven Silva (who was REALLY REALLY NICE and is also doing High School Musical soon!), Mayton Eugenio (daughter of dance queen Geleen Eugenio/of famed Dormitoryo), Kapuso super hunk and birthday boy Rocco Nacino (happy birthday man!) and their friends.

12 brands are now going to be under one roof. Bigger, brighter and bolder than ever. They will now make your lifestyle and entertainment choices in SM easier to experience as they take on a new identity as SM Lifestyle Entertainment Incorporated. Congratulations on this trade launch! As Mr. Hans Sy, the President of SM Prime Holdings Inc says, you are just starting!... but really... you guys have outdone yourselves! Best wishes from KUMAGCOW.COM!

Sarah Geronimo Endorses SMDC's GRACE RESIDENCES: Star Life!

Monday, March 03, 2014

Last Sunday, we went to SM Aura and have dinner with some of SM Development Corporation's executives. They are known as "The Good Guys!" in the real estate industry and responsible for several well loved residential projects under the belt of SMDC. They have a new one in the works called Grace Residences located in the growing business center hub of Taguig City. I'm in that particular stage in my life to actually find something to invest in so I listened very carefully. I guess this looks really good in any view. It's in a prime location because it's near central business districts like BGC, Makati and Ortigas Center. It's also near malls and the metro's hot spots liveable to starting modern families. It's a pretty nice place also for those working nearby. If you want to rent it out so you can pay for the premium, it'll definitely work.

The area is promising because of its proximity to Makati and Bonifacio Global City. A few minutes, and you're there! Very conducive for work or play, plus they've got wide open spaces meant for small parks and lounging. photo cr: smdcgraceresidences.com

The actual structure is connected to major thoroughfares like C5, EDSA and SLEX.

The promise is 5 Star hotel like convenience in a garden surrounding structures within city limits. It's planned ridiculously great and layout is well thought of as each unit would have their own space fronting spectacular views of the city and the artistic landscaped gardens. This mid rise property is also endorsed by the one and only POP Princess Sarah Geronimo. Living in Grace Residences is like living with celebrities, she knows how it is to live like a star. Check out this video released by SMDC just a few days ago!

SMDC says she's the perfect endorser because just like the good guys, in all her years in the business... she has remained down to earth and charming; she's also one that has a good heart. This is their STAR LIFE campaign and to prove what Star Life living is, Grace Residences presents their property to be the premier thing to buy when you want to invest or start to living life to the fullest. Now it's easy with their affordable terms and competitive monthly rates. You can probably ask your friends or family to chip in and start getting that dream realized. Grace Residences, this might be your turn to live a star life!

New Store In SM Megamall Fashion Hall: GIORDANO concepts

Monday, February 24, 2014

Off the posh hallways of Megamall's new Fashion Hall is an addition to the great brand that we Filipinos loved all these years, this is GIORDANO concepts. We've already got them as staple on shirts and other garments but they have particularly leveled up a notch as they introduce this more premium brand that will cater to executives, yuppies and those who want a more luxurious line of clothing. Fact is, they've taken those well designed products from Korea and introducing them through this one, pretty cool right?

Their vision: is to provide consumers like us a more upmarket brand or kind of Giordano that still presents casual attires and shows a "less is more" retail approach that will be attractive to a more high end buyers. This innovation will make  majority of its collection in modern black, whites, grey and monochromes but still make it available in a large variety of styles. This approach and attitude will provide a more upscale, dreamy line which will be very much at par with other international brands like Armani, Polo by Ralph Lauren and Lacoste. They can even be greater for some of the items I've seen in the store. Start spending.

I love the colors. Even if they are getting a little adventurous, the collared shirts and tshirts are proving to be quite classy; plus the materials are obviously a wee bit thicker than usual without compromising comfort. It's soft on the skin and primarily cotton based. I think I've already seen their market, mostly professionals who want to splurge on more luxurious things. Like some execs in my office who only seldom shop but invests in more classy clothing. Nothing wrong with that because you only deserve the best if you've worked hard for your money. Getting what's worth every cent is the key.

Since it's the first GIORDANO concepts store in the Philippines, what great way to start the day with some of the Philippine's brightest stars and personalities. You might recognize some of them :)

Giordano's Chairman and CEO Peter Lau was there and was pretty happy that aside from the regular Giordano stores, there's Giordano concepts now in the Philippines. He's promising that they will bring more high end products to the Philippines through Giordano concepts. It'll be easy he laments and seeing the celebrities who already enjoyed the clothing, they are sure that the most discriminating Filipino consumer will make this the better choice when it comes to premium clothing.

Giordano concepts partnered with Preview magazine's stylists so they can experiment with the celebrities who went to the store that afternoon. They did a swell job and got the mostly seriously dressed wear a relaxed upscale outfit which all came from the Giordano concepts store.

Just ask the good looking host of Midnight Snack and model Mikael Daez. He brightened up the room with his chiseled facial features and winning smile. He also donned Giordano concepts shirts later on in the evening. Twa's nice meeting you again :)

My friend Ruth aka Ruthilicious of http://www.ruthdelacruz.com/ also enjoyed her time with model Brent Javier. He's cute as a button and he's dapper on this bit, then he wore some of the collared shirts later on as he was dressed up by Preview's style team. Effortless.

The people are as equally hot as the clothes in Giordano concepts and judging from what I've seen in the store, there are some items that I really like especially the long sleeved shirts and accessories on the other tables. If you want to check out what classy stuff they have in the store, please do give them a visit at the 3rd Floor Fashion Hall in SM Megamall. They are open the same with mall hours so you better give them a visit.

I'm shopping there tomorrow :)
