Director Rahyan Carlos to Hold MQuest Artists Agency Summer Workshop

Saturday, April 12, 2025

Laying the groundwork for success in the entertainment industry doesn't come overnight. It takes a village, to say the least, to become good at your craft. Taking workshops is essential, because staying sharp, hungry for personal development and learning techniques and how to employ them comes with the job.

Director Rahyan Carlos has been doing work in the entertainment industry for years. His stellar work in directing, scriptwriting, and coaching actors has made him who he is today. The Filipino director didn't really stay stagnant and wanted to learn from the best, Hollywood's Chubbuck Technique has landed the biggest stars some awards. Ivana Chubbuck had to teach him for several months (and continue til today), and this required him to be in the US for the duration in order to do it. He could lose work in the Philippines, but did it anyway because of his hunger for growth. The expanding array of skills, learning nuances, the training program had to be supervised by Ivana herself, and he did it all. Now he's the only one authorized to teach this Chubbuck Technique in the country, under the MQuest Artist Agency.

Direk Rahyan Carlos says "I'm so proud to be here now in MQAA and excited to train actors. I've started doing this 27 years ago, changing hats, and now an acting teacher. I'm also excited to see them land jobs after undergoing training, they're like little trophies. Thank you Jeffrey Remegio for having me since last year, I got to apply what I learn here, in other networks. I will show you a glimpse of what happens in a master class with some of the actors that have undergone training with the Chubbuck technique. I've done the others, but this is intended to land jobs and win awards. Acting is personal, imagination is also important, but nothing beats pain and our own experience. We teach actors to use it to win objectives. This invokes emotion, use pain as a fuel to resolve, and evolve. Use it for change. It's about creating an environment where it all happens."

Ms. Liza Dino Seguerra who has undergone the workshops adds "It's surreal to be with actors, but every time I participate here I am reminded that I am an actress. I worked my way up and now support other actors and folks in the industry. Whenever I get an opportunity to do things with the Chubbuck Technique, it trains you to understand your tool. I have become a better human being, it made me vulnerable. We live our lives coping, but when you are an actor is open yourself up and allow people see your experience. I learned to channel pains I've had in the past in this technique including the hurtful things that are not talked about. It's not easy to confront. You are able to say it to another character even if it is in the back of your mind. It made me talk to people, committing to it is the best tool, our pain, our experience."

Actors Carmi Martin and Polo Ravales showing us a glimpse of the technique

The registration for this starts today April 12th, and tomorrow April 13th at the 10th Floor of Launchpad in Reliance Street in Mandaluyong City. You may also inquire via @MQAAWorkshops on IG and FB. You can also email them via mqaa.training@gmail.com. We also got to talk to several artists who have undergone the workshop. These include some of TV5's brightest stars, and some veteran actors in the mix. This is an opportunity to learn by some of the greatest coaches in the industry.

You may scan the QR code to know more about it. There's no such thing as an overnight actor, you need to go to the gym to build muscles. Workshops are gyms for actors!

DenJen Movie "Everything About My Wife" Touches on 7 Year Itch, Marriage and Deceit

Thursday, February 27, 2025

I've seen the Korean film which this was based from (All About My Wife, 2012), but felt even if this may have been based on that... this Filipino romcom movie carries its own weight. This adaptation Everything About My Wife by Director Real Florido takes on a whole Filipino premise, and talks about that 7 year itch that a lot of married couples go through. Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado play a couple named Dominic Brizuela and Imogen Karuhatan (Dom and Imo). Also in the film is real life cassanova Sam Milby who did absolutely amazing in this story of love, getting tired of it, relationships, and trust.

For starters, it's not a full on romcom because much of the scenes felt like a drama, something that both Dennis and Jennylyn would know like the back of their hand. It's a slow burn, but the elements are there, something that you would probably enjoy because those fun DenJen moments you see on social media will have a LOT of it in this film. It's their personal touch, which I'm sure you'll all adore when you get to see this in the silver screen.

Also in the film are the fun characters of Carmi Martin and Ms. Nova Villa. There's small pockets of situational comedy which you'll enjoy in Everything About My Wife. You'll get most of it with Dennis Trillo's character, and you'll never see sunflowers the same because of it. Joyang is also fun to see, she's got that spunk even if she's a newbie in PH cinema.

Much of the first half of it will involve them establishing the issues they are encountering, like being tired of the partners, and how they approached it with another problem, like seduction and connivance. It may feel slow, but bear with it. It's going to get better, funnier and more interesting in the second half. I'd give this 8.5/10 cows 🐮ྀི🐮ྀི🐮ྀི🐮ྀི🐮ྀི🐮ྀི🐮ྀི🐮ྀི

This is already showing on theaters, so if you're planning to have a fun day with your family and friends, who are fans of Dennis, Jennylyn and Sam, you should definitely watch this. This is produced by GMA Films and CreaZion Studios.

Get Ready for a Bigger, Better "Walang Matigas Na Pulis Sa Matinik Na Misis" as they start SEASON 3!

Sunday, December 15, 2024

If you've been a fan of "Walang Matigas Na Pulis Sa Matinik Na Misis", they're on their 3rd season now on GMA. While made for TV (and judging from recent trailers), they've amped up production for the new installment, and from the looks of it, it's pretty great! If you're a fan of action films, the Revilla brand of comedy, cute and fun will be in the forefront of this show. Just like the previous seasons, he'll be with the gorgeous Beauty Gonzalez, Liezel Lopez, Nino Mulach, Maey Bautista, Ms. Carmi Martin, Jeffrey Tam, Michael de Mesa, and more!

According to Senator Bong "We really wanted to do something big and put movie level production and put it into this TV series. We couldn't have done this without GMA's help, especially Boss Anette Gozon, as we work with them at IMUS Productions. If you loved the first and second season, we're sure you'll love the third one because we're working with the best people behind the scenes and of course, very professional artists too."

It's been 30 years since they've done this on film, and this series that's being seen on TV will include the same cast, and additions because he also hinted a 4th season soon. They promise it'll be bigger scenes, something that fans of the show will surely love when it gets broadcasted on GMA's assets and on free TV.

Beauty says "Contrary to what people say, I find him very funny, he grins a lot, not really hard to make him laugh which I discovered while working with him. Sometimes we couldn't stop laughing and the director had to intervene because it's always fun on set. He also takes good care of us and the rest of the cast, he also lets everybody shine! He's still the same person that I've seen when we started, until now, which is really nice because he really lets us become stars in the show."

Here's our coverage of the press conference, please enjoy!

Lauded by other artists in the show, Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. has been described as the consistent leader, not just in the show but in real life. He also doesn't let his co stars do scenes half heartedly and always suggests areas to improve because he's been doing this for years. He also lets his co stars be comfortable, so when they throw lines, it feels like family. This is why they always appreciate things they do on set, because it feels good to talk to someone they trust. He's also someone who's becoming even better as time goes by. He still does the stunts on set, which makes his co stars admire him even more. This season will also include viral guy Boss Toyo who will play himself, funny man Leo Martinez, and Jestoni Alarcon so it will be very interesting.

The show will premiere this December 7:15 PM, every Sunday and same days thereafter. Make sure you watch them! I heard there will be some revelations about his other shows in the pipeline, much like a Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. multiverse of sort! So follow their social channels because it will be also announced there!

Star Magic Workshops x AMP Studios Does Second Hybrid Workshop in Canada

Sunday, September 03, 2023

I've had word that the previous one was phenomenal (late 2022), so this really didn't come as a surprise for me to see Star Magic Training and Workshop Head Direk Rahyan Carlos and their team did a hybrid workshop in Toronto, Canada. This was done together with their partners over at AMP Studios Canada with Rechelle Everden at its helm.

It's a face to face workshop, so in a way it was quuite intense for all the participants who enrolled for the Introductory and Advanced Acting Class. It culminated on August 27 when they held their recital and it was joined by the very talented actress/comedienne Carmi Martin.

As you may already know, Direk Rahyan Carlos is one of the few people certified to teach the world renowned Chubbuck Technique. This has been used by several local actors and Hollywood A listers, so if you want to join, you're certainly welcome to do so by inquiring and visiting their page at facebook.com/Ampstudioscanada or their IG account @ampstudios_canada.

They would like to thank Mitzify Canada and Mitziville Farm and Residences for generously sponsoring the event and other AMP Studios projects.

Ms. CARMI MARTIN for Yamang Bukid Insulin Plant Tea

Saturday, September 18, 2021

Yamang Bukid was founded 7 years ago as a home based business. They have produced the Yamang Bukid Turmeric Tea and have successfully distributed it around the country and elsewhere in the world. With the new found success, they're now launching a new product called Yamang Bukid Insulin Plant Tea and putting in a new endorser, health advocate and comedy icon Ms. Carmi Martin.

Ms. Carmi Martin says "When I had COVID last year, I was really sad because I lost a KathNiel project because of that, that was very big. I exercised, I prayed hard, and inspired people while dealing with it. I took the Yamang Bukid Turmeric Tea and now, they've gotten a new product the Yamang Bukid Insulin Plant Tea. I take it after lunch to make sure my sugar is managed. I am so happy to be their brand ambassador because I truly believe in their product. It's part of my lifestyle, especially now during the pandemic. Even before they approached me, I already have been drinking it so there's really no hesitation. I've been drinking the tea before I do my prayers. Everyday is a challenge for me, when I feel fat, stay at home and relax, and skin gets affected, I change it, I work out and in my age, I feel so blessed I still take care of myself. When I got to the facility in Makati, I carried my Yamang Bukid Turmeric tea and took it. I was asymptomatic, and taking it everyday helped my health wise. Together with my vitamins, it helped me a lot when I took it hot. Currently for work, I have HOY LOVE YOU! on iWANT TFC, Love You Stranger on GMA, Sampung Querida (under Jun Lana), and yes I'm doing GVBoys under Puregold Channel. My relative recommended it to me, and now I do recommend it to my co-artists these days. Yamang Bukid really helped a lot, I didn't go to hospitals when I got sick, because I have this in my lifestyle. The Insulin tea, I could see its anti inflammatory effects after a while. I don't have to wait to have a sugar problem, and taking it once a day is enough for me. How I wish I had my own farm, I am inspired by how Yamang Bukid started and seeing them become successful in agriculture, and become a blessing to Filipinos, it's a business with a heart and I really am impressed by it. I really highly recommend it. Even before I got COVID, I was always taking precaution, even now at home I had to make sure my Mother, my kin, everyone at home should take measures that would prevent that from happening again. To help me deal with it, I drink the tea so I get my health in check. Always stay safe and I hope you spread the news about the Yamang Bukid Insulin Plant Tea. Stay positive in attitude and stay negative with COVID!"

Yamang Bukid has been doing research on the wonders of the Insulin plant. Dave Agcaoili the Assistant Vice President for R&D says "This product can be taken by non hypo glycemic customers and we've had people attesting to its health benefits. This Insulin Plant tea regulates blood sugar levels, used as a dietary supplement in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, and is also rich in protein, phytochemicals, iron and has a lot of anti oxidants. Costus igneus or the insulin plant has been consumed for years especially in India, South America, and what we want as a company is to spread how useful this is by consuming it. It is not recommended to use this in lieu of current prescriptions. It should be taken along side what is advised by doctors. Diabetic patients observed efficacy on their 15th day, improved glycemic control when consumed in addition to past treatments for diabetes and current medication. Yamang Bukid makes sure that it is produced in Yamang Bukid Farm in Palawan. They are PhilGAP Certified. They follow documented procedures to make sure BPI verified the insulin plants they grow. No flavor enhancers, artificial preservatives either. It is ground, dried, and when taken tastes a little sour, recommended to be taken after meals so as not to induce acidity. This is for adults only, not recommended for children, pregnant of lactating mothers. It also has a one year shelf life and is available in pouch and tea bag packaging. This is also certified by the FDA, no other insulin plant tea has been registered under them. It has undergone various tests so quality is assured. It is recommended to also take it purely as is, not mixed with other beverages."

To share her experience, Ms. Naneth Versoza a hotel executive from Palawan says "I have been diabetic for 18 years and had been in denial for a few years. I've had a stroke, got paralyzed, my speech had impediments, I used insulin injections together with medication, with change in lifestyle and drinking the insulin tea, my sugar levels are now stable at 110-100. I assure you the tea is effective, I know diabetes has a lot of complications, and I hope this helps lessen that. I'm sure this will help a lot of people, I've seen the growth of Yamang Bukid."

"We made this with Filipinos in mind, so it could help them with diabetes and other conditions. We have survived the panemic and we will get through it, we're producing this and helping a lot of people including farmers and diabetes patients. This is our pride, we made something that helps a lot of people, lots of businesses generated and help our countrymen become huge in the world stage. The company is small, and when we started the pandemic hit and we had to close stores. We ventured online and saw how our initiatives have become huge, we survived, but yes we lost a lot of stores because of restrictions. We are slowly growing, and people are seeing the good things that Turmeric and Insulin Tea can bring. We know we have a good one in our hands, propagate farming, and we've kept them as much as possible be affordable. It costs 30 pesos per tea bag, better than tea shops you see in commercial places. That alone is good in our books." Mordino Visitacion, CEO of Yamang Bukid Healthy Products Inc.

If you have questions about their products, just search their Facebook page at Yamang Bukid Healthy Products Inc., I can't wait to try it out myself because I've been taking the leaf from the plant for a couple of months now. The tea form might prove to be better for me. Congratulations Yamang Bukid and Ms. Carmi!

Aiai, Zsazsa, Carmi and Beauty for Ricky Lee's BES and the Beshies

Monday, October 02, 2017

I spent the afternoon at Le Reve in Esguerra Quezon City to attend the media conference of BES and the BESHIES, a new film by CINEKO Productions and Regal Entertainment. Albeit some of the cast were not there, it was still fun hearing Ms. Aiai Delas Alas, Ms. Zsazsa Padilla, Hashtag's Nikko Natividad and the writers under the tutelage of Ricky Lee tell us about the experience of making this film. I was under the impression that this would be something close to the iconic 80's hit movie Working Girls but this doesn't seem the case. Ricky Lee has been conducting really good workshops and he deemed these writers under him would be getting the chance to do this movie. True enough, the producers were delighted to do this story.

"Our goal was to portray 4 women who are always showcasing courage, even before we wrote Super Parental Guidance, we wanted to do this right after Ricky Lee's workshop who we are a part of. This initially came from that Filipino expression "May nanalo na bes!" and we just played with it."  -Alpha Haboj and Rod Marmol

It was a little early but when he arrived, he initiated to actually talk to us before the media conference. Nikko, as his friends call him has been part of PBB and popular boy dance group Hashtags. Although very popular, I felt these guys are very humble especially the ones I've already talked with like Macoy, Luke, Nikko (this one) and my favorite Ryle. He posed for photos as he described his character in the movie.

"I play the role of Dans here, I don't know if I'm a boy or girl, but I'm definitely a good son. I am currently under Star Magic, we talked about it (his former manager) and they will take care of my career. I am so close with the other hashtags, our bond is strong even if we're off the show. We haven't even had any problems that were too big to handle, I think it's just a matter of respect. I am a bit of a terror as a brother so in a sense this is close to me, I am the eldest in my family." -Nikko Natividad

While on the front of the stage, Miss Aiai started to talk about the movie and said "I am so glad to see how we have been put together, especially under Joel Lamangan, who is so strict. We felt it whenever we had a shoot we were so nervous. I have a lot of friends and if I try to mention all of them we won't have time for this presscon. Direk is so much of a perfectionist, it's not enough what you can do, you have to do what he wants to happen in his mind, it's his vision. In love, age is just a number, weddings are dreams for me, a dream for my Mom too and I would really like to see that. I even joke about it because as you know, most of the men do cry during weddings."

"Now I know it's the first time I am working with Zsazsa and Carmi in a movie, but they are my personal friends so it was less stressful. Before I got to where I am today I've done different jobs, so this is seriously not a new thing for me. It happens to people that look for work or earn a living. This is situational, we also use millenial language so it's going to be fun. I hope you all help us see this with your family."  -Aiai Delas Alas

When asked about her good friends who are also in the industry, Ms. Zsazsa uttered "Gary, Martin and everyone in ASAP are my beshies. Even if we don't often see each other, I can depend on them when I need them.  I don't talk about weddings during our shoot, we thought about it and wanted to have a business rather than a wedding. I have been working since I was 18 and in a way I could relate to this character, but I am no martyr like Mabel. I also had to work hard because the role needed a specific accent and I get scolded a lot by Direk, I had to think that I'm really from the Visayas without looking forced."

They also talked about her recent engagement and a little about Dolphy, but I'd rather keep that in the blinds because she mentioned most of it were very personal.

Anyway, this looks good on paper and hopefully it would also translate a good run in the box office. Two productions, Direk Joel Lamangan (a very strict director) and ensemble cast is making sure you'll enjoy and have a lot of laughs with Bes and the Beshies. You will see them on theaters this coming October 18. It also stars Beauty Gonzales, Ms. Carmi Martin and a lot of stars that are staging a comeback. This is for women empowerment, friendship and love. You'll enjoy this for sure.
