Toby’s Sports Win Big in Franchise Excellence Awards

Saturday, September 28, 2019

Whenever I need to suit up to something sporty, or engage in my different hobbies, one store that I frequent to is Toby’s Sports. I have had the pleasure of purchasing weights from their store years ago and it still is being utilized by me if and when I need it. The shoes I got from them are still in boxes because I prepare crazy for some special event. Took a look at news today and apparently, Toby’s Sports has just won the Outstanding Filipino Franchise Award for Retail (Large Scale Category). Coming from the Philippine Franchise Association, they just affirmed the brands leadership among sports retailers in the country.

That’s no easy feat, as the Franchise Excellence Awards only chooses from some of the country’s best franchise companies. It also needs to meet stringent quality standards in order to qualify for the FEA. It’s an award given with the cooperation of PFA, DTI, Philippine Retailers Association and PCCI. Dr. Alan Escalona the PFA Chairman says “This award is given to franchisees that have become a benchmarks in the national market. They must met excellence in operations, and Toby’s Sports has exemplified these qualities. We hope this inspires them to continue pursuing excellence. They are after all, the largest Sports retailer in the country.”

Head of Store Operations William Llaguno adds “Our franchise business plays an important role in maintaining our number 1 status in the industry. We continue to advocate for promoting different sports and active lifestyle for more Filipinos nationwide!” Cheers to the men and women who have made his brand as successful as it is today, I am sure they’ll continue to improve their business and benefit millions of athletes and sports enthusiasts in the Philippines.

SHAZAM! Meals Now Available at DC Cafe

Tuesday, April 02, 2019

When you hear that bolt of lightning hitting the man with the red suit and gold trims, this superhero comes to mind. SHAZAM! is also going to have his own movie, and what better way to celebrate that but by having his own desgined meals at popular DC CAFE in SM Megamall's Fashion Hall.

The place is full of DC Comic memorabilia and this month, they're paying homage to one of the most prolific superheros that the DC universe ever had, Elton John might be a little envious because SHAZAM! is here!

This new movie is Directed by David Sandberg, starring Asher Angel who plays Billy Batson, a boy who turns into an adult superhero played by Zachary Levi. It is based on the comic series Adventures of Captain Marvel.

Now what better way to celebrate this but by bringing out good food based on the hero. Check it out!

Strength of Hercules Baby Back Ribs - placed in sous vide for 18 hours, with their own dry rub and barbecue sauce, this talks sweet and savory. For protein freaks, you will be satisfied with this, but don’t forget to share and order other things on the menu.

Courage of Achilles Honey Butter Drumstick - For kids and kids at heart, this would surely be a hit. Crunchy fried chicken doused with honey butter sauce, it’s so good that I ate a lot of it. You don’t need ketchup anymore because the flavor it comes with is sufficient. You’ll have the courage to taste the other dishes too.

Power of Zeus Grilled Pork Chop - When you need to pack something heavy, or just plain hungry, I suggest you get this pork chop. It’s grilled and served with a side of mashed potatoes and lightly sautéed veggies. You’ll be full in no time.

Wisdom of Solomon Beef Kebab - Two huge chunks of beef kebab served with warm pita bread, tomatoes and onions. It reminds me of the middle east, expect intense beefy flavor.

Speed of Mercury Macaroni Soup - if you’re a bit under the weather or require something hearty and comforting on a cold day, try this Macaroni soup. It will put you in a good mood fast, paired with a slice of toasted baguette with liver pâté, your husband will love you if you start it off good.

Stamina of Atlas Mango Float - a very fancy presentation with expected simple and sweet/tangy fruit flavor. I love that it is fresh and not overly sweet, makes good guilty dessert for sugar evaders like me. A perfect finish to your lunch or dinner.

With the gods lovely talent behind every meal, you’ll get to experience your own superpower when you dine at DC Cafe. Again, it is located at the 4th floor of SM Megamall’s Fashion Hall. The movie will also be screened on April 3, 2019 at the mall’s IMAX Theater, perfect place to watch it right? Mellow 94.7 is giving away tickets for screening the movie, maybe you can score tickets there.

See you at DC Cafe!

Philippine Franchise Association Honors Toby's Sports

Saturday, August 05, 2017

You and I have been able to visit a Toby's Sports store in our lifetime to buy the best supplies, equipment, and just about everything that you would need for sports. It's where I bought weights, shirts, basketball, volleyball, my tennis rackets, ones for badminton, and just about almost every hobby we've done these past few years. You got your stuff in excellent quality, you got it from the people who work tirelessly to get you the best the market could actually afford. Recently, the Franchise Excellence Awards has bestowed a rightful one for them, Toby's Sports is now a proud owner of the Outstanding Filipino Franchise Retail Award for the Large Store Category.

This is the award given to them by the Philippine Franchise Association at the SMX Convention Center last July 19. I deem they rightfully deserve this award for over the top customer experience as I've always had when inside their store. The award is only given to companies that have shown exceptional growth performance, brand value, and does ethical business practices. This definitely brings the value of the franchise business even further as their standards will eventually become higher to achieve these goals. The Department of Trade and Industry is also a partner in this awards show so you are also getting the nod of the government if you win an award of this magnitude.

Mr. Toby Claudio, the President of Quorum International Incorporated says "We have had several successful franchisees in the business since 1988 and the number continues to grow in malls and shops in different parts of the country. We hope to continue to have these qualities that have had us win this award, and pursue excellence as we continue to be the largest sports retailer in the country."

Congratulations to the men and women behind Toby's Sports for winning this award, I wouldn't have had those perfect shoes for workout without one of your people helping me in your store. I'm glad they've gone beyond just selling and asked me what I needed those shoes for and found the perfect one.

New Hobby for Titos/Titas of Manila: SUISEKI

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Just got off the SUISEKI event at the posh Shangri-la Plaza Mall in Shaw Boulevard this afternoon. For those who don't know, there is a large community dedicated to natural stones oftenly called SUISEKI (named after Empress Suiko) who got Chinese Scholar rocks displayed in a wooden base. These rocks are special, usually formed during a long period of time and must depict a special object or shape, like landscape, animals and sculptures. It's not modified at all. The lady above is Ms. Fely Gupit, founder of the Natural Stones Society of the Philippines. The jolly lady welcomed us all and told us the story of Suiseki culture in the Philippines and according to organizations, the country is only on it's infancy because we only started in the early 2000's, but knows how huge our natural resources are. That's our edge over other countries who do this too.

During the occasion, we were also treated with passionate bamboo flute music courtesy of that viral grandpa who played in his spare time at LRT Stations in Manila. There was a guy and young kid who performed with him who were equally talented.

This is Suiseki

People who must have been on the sidelines have been looking at it funny but if you look at them up close, you would know why people have been appreciating these rocks for hundreds of years because just like fashion, it's in the details.

These are volcanic rocks, formed like small hills and mountains while the other looked like a sinkhole.

This is called Circline, very stunning to see as it looked like a real sculpture but it's only made by the ravages of wind, water, and natural soil erosion.

This one is called a "Seal", as it mimics the actual sea animal. I'm sure you can all see the resemblance no?

This one looks like a sculpture that looks like it was inspired by "Madonna and Child". The organization called Natural Stones Society of the Philippines has been doing these exhibits in different places and museums to bring awareness of the art, which can be a good hobby for Titos and Titas of Manila.

This is one of the most fascinating pieces I've seen on display because if you look at it, it's got tons of flower patterns that are intricately arranged on the stone's face. If my hunch is correct, this is a former coral and I'm sure the Philippines has got a ton of these since we are an archipelago.

Some pieces hail from Nueva Ecija and with the multitude of caves there, I bet some of these pieces have history involved. It looks like there's a ton of stories involved in picking up stones like these.

This is entitled "Mountains" which I figure is more because it looks like the ULURU mountain in Australia or just like certain mountains in the Philippines. I think I get why scholars have gotten interest in these things and get inspiration when they study.

Tanay Rizal is also a source of these interesting stones. Mind you I've seen several things like these that cost thousands of pesos, no joke!

Bat Cave, as the name suggests this looks like a bat in flight. Several stones on display actually look like other animals, like turtles, birds, mammals, and you don't even have to imagine.

This one is textured, one which we often call "Batong Buhay" in local lingo. This is interesting because people would just brush this off, put it on a pedestal and it looks like a million bucks.

For those who are interested to actually make this a serious hobby, Titos/Titas of Manila are encouraged to contact Ms. Felicidad Gupit, founder of the Natural Stones Society of the Philippines. If you would like to join the club, just call 5717818. After three days they will have a new set of stones on display so I hope you could get to see it before July 26. This is part of Shangri-la Plaza's month long celebration of everything Japanese. There are small shops, a lot of displays, kimonos and retail stores that show their wares so buy them all if you're in the mood for shopping. They have events every week so if you're in the mood for fun and luxurious retail therapy, Shangri-la Plaza has them all! Visit http://www.shangrila-plaza.com/ for more details!
