Monday, May 12, 2025

June 13-15 will be the date to remember if you are looking forward to have a grand time at TOYCON PH POPLIFE Festival Event happening at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The theme for this year is CELEBRATION, something apt for their 22nd year in the country. Toy collectors, gamers, cosplayers will converge in the venue to make sure all anime heads get their fix. There will also be concentration on Trading Cards, Beyblade matches, RPG and Battle gaming. There will also be cosplay competitions too. They will be occupying the whole Ground Floor of SMX plus an additional function room on the second floor for game matches, plenty of space to go around on that day with your friends and family.

They will host qualifiers for tournaments and send them to France for the championship, something that serious gamers would want to consider.

Just to give you an idea, there will be over 400+ dealers and toy sellers in this event this year, the biggest number they have accommodated so far in the history of TOYCON PH. There will be 114 toy designers that will come to the Philippines and also have local talented ones to man their own booths and side events too. Some established brands and new ones will also participate including Japanese guests that may surprise you on different dates. It'll be super fun and exciting, it's going to be the biggest pop event you'll ever get to attend in the Philippines.

Here's the full press conference held at ELEMENTS in Centris QC this afternoon:

Official apparel, merch and figures from NBA will also be there, and we heard talks are being done to bring an NBA player along in this event too. This includes the biggest toy brands like Lego, Bandai, Banpresto, Legendary Beasts, Quiccs (They have an exclusive one, a sequel of Voltes V to be revealed soon) and Voltes V too.

This will also be the year for the first ever TOYCONcert with several groups and performers lined up, details will be at the TOYCON PH social channels. There will be a dedicated "ARTISTS" alley for designers, comic art, toys, so if you want to have them signed or get unique products from budding ones, this is the place to be!

The last day will have the TOYCON COSCON Finals, and the international art toy design competition powered by the folks from MindStyle. Japanese superstars RYOTA OZAWA Kaizoki Sentai Gokaiger Gokai Red and YUI KOIKE Gokai Pink. Rica Matsumoto, Miyuki Ueda who voiced different iconic Japanese cartoons will be here. All will be part of the Seiyu lineup that they have from June 13-15. They will also have cosplayers from around the Southeast Asian region who will visit the event, pretty promising for big fans of these ladies. Calico Toys will be bringing them over.

TOYCON PH will be super fun as One Piece Tagalog dubbers will also have a reunion, specifically on the 14th. To add, there will be a POP CULTURE Awardee in TOYCON PH for 2025, previous winners include Michael V and Bigboy Cheng.

The SMART Powered Bigger Better ToyCon A Resounding Success!

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

Thousands of people flocked to SMX Convention Center for the SMART Powered bigger and better ToyCon 2016 this weekend. I have seen tons of change since the last time I went to the event because if you compare what happened this 2016 to the ones before that, it's just unbelievable. From the whole Pop Life and Fan Experience to the displays that lined up on the right side of the hall, this event has really gone international.

Smart was also there to give tons of prizes, plus free photos for those who posed on their booths during the three day Toy event. Aside from that, they also offered Smart's best deals for Postpaid and Prepaid packages during the Toy Convention.

I was there Friday during the small press conference and Saturday where they also unveiled the largest Voltes V robot this side of the world. It came from China and they shipped the whole thing piece by piece then assembled them Saturday. I saw parts of the process and they needed 50 people to actually do it. For safety reasons, they didn't remove the scaffolding anymore so if ever anything happens, they would keep the robot standing without any danger. My memories of watching Voltes V came crashing back to me, there were also tons of memorabilia sold on the floors which covered almost half the venue.

The Stan Lee display was also something to note of. It's the first time that they brought it outside of the US and it's so nice that the Philippines had that privilege. I love the memorabilia from the actual stars of Avengers and this huge Iron Man suit behind me. I could imagine driving this one for real but it probably won't fit me ha-ha! Anyway, there are also tons of magazines, toys and trading spots which was quite busy on that day. I documented the first day on video which includes the interview for HODOR, Superman Dean Cain and Young Boba Fett Daniel Logan. I also will be showing the organizers so you could get to know how all of these things happened!

Here's how I spend Day 2 where I followed Asian Superstar Mario Maurer after  his interview. He shopped for toys, he also got a Krusty the Clown figure while he shopped that afternoon.

Thank you so much to SMART, the ToyCon 2016 organizers for having me cover your event. I've had so much fun and I hope this won't be the last time we'll be in ToyCon. The organizers mentioned that it would actually be even BIGGER next year and they've already got dates for it. Can't wait to see that come true! This was a BIG success!
