Seen this coming, but now it's confirmed. Acer is officially the leading consumer and gaming notebook brand in the Philippines. With over 35.7% of the market share according to GfK, they are lading in the consumer notebooks with 34.2% and gaming notebooks with 40.6% market share. This is huge, imagine having one in three of the laptops here in the country!

I guess this stems mostly on how they kept the costs down, often having best of value offers and endorsers like girl group G22 and PPOP Kings SB19. They also have the annual Predator League that is participated by a lot of ESports teams here and around the region. They are also easily accessible because of their presence in shopping apps and their very own online store. ASUS Releases New Zenbook S14, Teases VivoBook S14 and ExpertBook P5

Growing a line of products and innovating at the same time must be hard for others, but not ASUS! Today we ventured to Silver city in Pasig as they showcased the newest version of ASUS ZenBook S14 and teased a few more like the ASUS VivoBook S14 and the ExpertBook P5.

ASUS SEA Regional Director Jimmy Lin says "We will lead innovation with ASUS Lumina OLED touchscreen. We have won awards and excellence over our competitors. This year, we had the first CoPilot PC's, and today we are launching the ASUS ZenBook 14. This is the most advanced AI PC and the most stylish too. Perfect for users on the go with the Ceraluminum material and premium look. This utilizes AI, and the newest generation of Intel processors apt for the laptop."

This is a new standard for AI innovation and design. Rachelle Lozares of ASUS Consumer PC adds "The ASUS ZenBook S14 is our most elegant AI powered machine, available in Zumaia Gray that mimics thin rock layers and crafted with Ceraluminum. It's back to school season and that only means one thing, you need a new laptop and NVIDIA just showcased some of the units that have better computing and graphics because they have it inside.

The GEFORCE RTX GPU's certainly has impressed a lot of consumers with its capability to service those who are in content creation, gaming, and even the usual office or school work. Videos won't look archaic or digitized and can harness AI via its Tensor Cores which are not available on ordinary laptops. I like the GEFORCE RTX 4090 which they showcased during the event, and used to convert 1080p videos into 4K HDR resolution with no hitches.

Recently, NVIDIA also launched Project G Assist which they revealed at COMPUTEX 2024. It's basically an RTX powered AI that you can use to enhance the utilization of games and apps while they are running. You now don't have to use walkthroughs for the game you are excited about because if you use it in game, it answers your queries and gives you more context of what is happening in game. Imagine the things you can do with it when you are playing RPG's and story form games because it'll be easier to finish tasks, and give you text or speech answers instantly.

Chat RTX is a local chatbot tech demo with the TensorRT-LLM that also supports Voice and Image files. In Computex 2024, they also showcased NVIDIA ACE Path that makes lifelike Game Characters, something powerful that developers can use. G Assist on the other hand can be used in game, it scans, give you advise on system optimization and change settings for better performance. RTX Remix is a tool for game models, it allows you to enhance textures, assets than the usual low res texture you get on games. NVIDIA App Beta is now available as a software package in new laptops released by different manufacturers. If you are looking for a laptop that can do this and more, make sure it's equipped with an NVIDIA in it.

The NVIDIA app might be in Beta, the second edition was released a few weeks ago and will only publish officially when they're happy with it.

PC Express VP for Sales and Marketing Jesse Tan shared "We have a big promo for best I class laptops, different NVIDIA based laptops from Acer, Lenovo, HP, Gigabyte, MSI, with the latest NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX hardware and free stuff plus installment upto 36 months. They also have brand promos with free GC's, game controllers,  printers, monitors, (depends on the model and brand). Silicon Valley's Archie Buenaventura says "We have exclusive bundles with MS Office Home and Student, ASUS TUF backpack, 3000 gc sm voucher, MSI Mouse, Mousepad, Essential Backpack and have this on Home Credit installments. Predator League 2024 PH Qualifiers and Asia Pacific Regional Finals Announced

Looks like it's going to be a tough competition for Filipino E-Sport athletes as the Asia Pacific Predator League 2024 Philippine Qualifiers start this month. These are for the exciting RIOT titles particularly games DOTA 2 and Valorant which is still adored in the Manila and elsewhere in the world. This is part Predator's efforts to discover more talent and help existing gamers have an avenue to showcase their skills versus the best of the best for these games in the Asia Pacific region. 

Yes, this is a good stepping stone for budding E-Gamers to gain experience in the industry as slots will be given to winners of the Philippine Qualifiers then join the regional finals. 

Ms. Sue Ong Lim the GM of Acer Philippines says "I'd like to welcome everyone and our valued partners. Predator has been steadfast in championing eSports in the region. In the next few weeks, we will have a few teams announced as finalists, and we will have the winner soon."

Paulo Sy of TNC says "Asia Pacific Predator League is being hosted by Predator in the region where gamers get to showcase their talent against the best in the region. The country finals will happen at the SM North Edsa Annex Atrium and we have 4 teams Neon, Made in Philippines for DOTA2 and  for Valorant we have Naos eSports, Oasis, Zol and Valhalla. During the event the ambassadors and endorsers of Predator will be there to see you. The finals will happen at the Mall of Asia Arena where the Philippine representative will battle it out with other reps from other countries in the region. The finals will be on January 10-14, plus an on ground event and lives stream for those watching at home. It will be 16 teams all in all, separated into 4 groups, then the winners via round robin will battle it out in the championship. The winner will get 65000 USD and special awards will be up for grabs. There will be other events during those dates, and we can't wait to see them early next year!"

PESO Executive Director Marlon Marcelo says "We want to elevate eSports and we have teams doing that now in different events. Happy to say we have won several tournaments, we have been very busy fielding athletes for different games. There is an opportunity to join and compete in the international competitions for 2024. ASUS Launches Incredibly Slim 2023 Zenbook Laptops

Took the hot trip to ASUS Philippines recent event as they take innovation up a notch once again with the newest #IncrediblySlim Zenbook laptops. No question on the power and specs (I own one that's a few years old and swear by it), but the changes in these new line made me wonder, how do they make it ultra thin and light like this? Imagine, only a centimeter thick and about a kilogram... that's a lot different from laptops a few years back.

That's not all, because as soon as they put them into a smaller, thinner and lighter form factor, they made it with less impact in the environment with sustainability in mind (both on product and packaging). I love it when they take the step further. During the event, they revealed the new Zenbook S 13 OLED (UX5304), the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404) and Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404). These are three new laptops made really slim, fit for those who would need to carry it around (students and professionals), or travel to a different place/country.

The new technology starts with its ASUS Lumina OLED Display which gives users an excellent visual experience for work and play.  Just like its recent predecessors, it's set to higher contrast and deeper blacks. It's also got 70 percent less blue light which means you'll get less eye strain if used for long hours. 

The Zenbook S13 OLED (UX5304) is also the thinnest in the world. It also uses recycled materials for the packaging and parts. They've managed to reduce the carbon footprint  to 50 percent in its production. Out of the box, it is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, has 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.

The Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404) on the other hand is a work of art. It's got a body capable of doing a 360 degree fold hence the name. You can treat it as a laptop, a stand, tent or a tablet just by flipping it around. Imagine the things you could do with it especially if you need to present, small gatherings, meetings, things that could make life easier for you without lugging around a huge projector for it. I've seen it first hand and among the products released today, I had my eye on this because it could make sharing content easy especially for school or work. It also comes with an ASUS Pen that would get your drawing sessions, sketching, writing and pressing buttons quite easy than usual. It also uses the same processor, memory and storage as the previous one.

The Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404) on the other hand already impressed a lot of people, giving it a respectable award, the 2023 Red Dot Product design. The difference is the graphics hardware which uses an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. It's built for creators, uses the ASUS DialPad for Adobe Creative Software. Running programs and rendering would probably cause heat but no worries, it's got ASUS IceCool Pro thermal technology that would take good care of that. It also has a dedicated MUX Switch to make sure resources for your laptop would be sufficient for your graphics work, or a few rounds of third person shooting games that it could accommodate during your leisure time. We might have to ask for a review unit soon so I could play around with it, I bet it'll be a remarkable piece of technology. HONOR Launches X7a and MagicBook X Series

Two things were launched at the HONOR event yesterday, an addition to their phone models the HONOR X7a and a new laptop series called MagicBook X, and they came to impress with their new products.

The X7a has a really long lasting battery (almost powerbank like with it's 6000mAh capacity), boasting of 3 days of power for a single full charge. The main camera is a 50MP Ultra clear Quad system plus it's got a lot of storage at 128 GB. The display is 6.74 inch, so those video and games would be nice to see on it. Currently, it's priced at Php 7,990 and has a Php 1,590 worth of HONOR earbuds given for free. Pretty good deal til the 28th!

The new MagicBook X series comes in 2 models, the X 14 and the X 15. It is designed for school, work and play. It utilizes 11th generation of Intel Core processors that can pretty much take on heavy work you need to do on it. It is also lightweight, so if you're the type to travel around locally or internationally it won't be too much to carry around on your backpack. It can last up to 9.9 hours of regular use with its 56Wh batteries. It won't be too hot too because they were able to stick a supersized cooling fan on it which dissipates heat. There are lots of other features for ease of moving files if you're editing most of it from different devices. The X 14 comes in the i5-1135G7 and i3-1115G4 version, price stands at Php 27,990 and has a free backpack and speaker packaged with it. This is only til the 28th though, so head on to HONOR kiosks if you're interested in getting one.

The HONOR MagicBook X 15 though costs Php 37,990, and comes in a i5-1135G7 and i3-1115G4 version. A little heavier at 1.56kg and wider display at 87% screen to body ratio, and would be useful on intimate presentations. Just got home from the Lenovo LEGION event at the Whitespace Events Hall in Makati City. Pretty sure there's a lot of people looking for the next generation laptops from the brand that held the number one spot last year. Gamers, students, creators and professionals probably have seen how they listened to consumers, and today is a momentous occasion to bring their big guns out!
