Paolo Ballesteros and Jun Lana for Die Beautiful

Friday, December 23, 2016

Die Beautiful is this year's most awaited film in the Metro Manila Film Festival. It was pitched in Hong Kong and was invited to join the Tokyo Film Festival. They pushed their luck and eventually won awards and accolades, but what was even better was the reaction of the viewers who were found crying, laughing, having fun while watching the movie. This was Director Jun Lana's vision when they made the film, and they felt surreal when it eventually won these awards.

During the blog conference a few days ago, Direk Jun Lana told us "The story came first, it was our anniversary in New York (he is Married to Executive Producer Perci Intalan) and we had to do something to dedicate for Jennifer Laude, a transgender woman who was murdered in Olongapo by a US Army Soldier. I didn't want it to be depressing, so in telling the story we needed to find people to vouch him, and love him (Paolo's character).

We asked Paolo to auditon when we had the material ready. I didn't want to lead him on but during reading, we knew it was distinctly for him. We knew he was going to be the star! We had to make sure we use time efficiently and take scenes while he was doing makeup for a character since that takes 3 hours. We had to make sure we do justice for his makeup transformations, this is a different level. He doesn't even look at photos, he just does it on set so it was genius. Yes, I was worried about the acceptance in Tokyo because this was made for the Filipino market. In Kerala, there were people on the floor during the screening, it was that popular. I want that to happen here in the Philippines. I want this to do good in the box office.

We are already blessed with awards and we couldn't be happier! We're doing our rounds now, going to provinces, going to public markets, schools, different places. Dying beautiful is maintaining dignity up to the last moment. Pao's vulnerability is there but he shares it, he doesn't want to shortcut at all and that's great for an actor, he was very easy and fun to work with. I'm not trying to educate anyone, but I'm trying to just have fun and love the story. Hopefully after telling the story it would humanize the issues but not politicize it. The very heart of it is Paolo's performance and it's his character, the audience were very noisy in Tokyo and they were touched."

Paolo adds "Maybe in the looks, we talked about it. I had to bring my diva light so we could get the full effect for the movie. I had to do about 9 makeup transformations. It was hard because I had to do makeup and do the acting, it was hard and it took time. It's not for everyday, I had to make sure the other lights are right before we roll the camera.

This is my first title role and it was fit specifically for me, I wanted to do a different Paolo that you see almost everyday in Eat Bulaga. I didn't really do it for the awards, and when I saw it, it was worth it. Every dramatic scene, I needed to do about 3 versions, and I never found this tiring. I've been in showbiz for 16 years and I say GO! I'm very confident this is going to do good, I hope we help the Filipino independent producers. In the story, there are connections to the transformations. It's one of the reasons why you should see it. I get inspired when I watch these celebrities so their thing on TV and when my stash of wigs match that person, I'd try to draw them on my face and see if they match. Then I get surprised the person I wanted to do appears in the mirror. It's more challenging if they don't have strong features because it's in the details.

I was frightened to actually be in a casket, but due to our experience in Eat Bulaga, we got to experience that as a joke first. When the camera's rolling, I was more nervous and moved a lot so I was very conscious to not breathe and move my eyes. I challenge myself and being an artist, it feels good to be appreciated. I had all the time in the world during that shoot as it was the time I had off with Eat Bulaga."

Now if you're still thinking of what to watch this Christmas for the Metro Manila Film Festival, make sure it's DIE BEAUTIFUL just to see why it got the nod of the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Kerala Film Festival (who didn't have a best actor category but made one from the judges as he was really that good!). They promise you will enjoy watching this film so if I were you, I'd have this on my list!

Watch it because Lady Gagi said so!

Beauty Scents "Crazy" Sale!

Saturday, November 01, 2014

Hey guys! Remember that Beauty Scents store I told you about a few months ago that opened in Paseo De Sta. Rosa? Well they're running a promo from October 30th to November 2, 2014. They're calling it a CRAZY SALE because they're basically selling them on prices dependent on the volume of the perfume.

If you don't know the place yet, just enter the Sta. Rosa toll gate and follow this map so you can get to Beauty Scents in a jiffy!

Begin your journey and find your favorite scents in one store. I'm still using my Issey Miyake that I got from that store and I'm loving it. There are also Bulgari bottles available which I'm sure you'll really love. Check out my article about Beauty Scents here so you can get an idea about their perfumes, colognes and cosmetics. Thank me later!

Great Prices On Cosmetics and Perfumes: Beauty Scents

Friday, August 08, 2014

We went all the way down south and felt the VIP experience they were promising us as the first ever Beauty Scents Outlet Store in Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Laguna. I frequent that same commercial area if I'm in the lookout for shoes and items that they actually sell at a fraction of a cost. Now, there's more reason to do it because some of the world's well loved perfumes, colognes and make up will be housed in a 210 square meter shop on the outskirts of Nuvali. What more could you ask for?

Their Executives, beauty queens, artists, Manila's best beauty and lifestyle bloggers all attended the event. The first branch is located in Malaysia, they put the second store here for a reason because it's a little far from the metro but easy enough to drive to and be with the best brands in that same location. After the ribbon cutting, we did the next best thing to enjoy the perfumes inside the store... we shopped for our own favorite perfumes!

People rushed inside the store looking for their favorite perfumes, some really good selections but totally affordable.

I couldn't really help but notice the interiors of the store because they probably have thought about making it really chic, it's a mix of natural and industrial. The cold steel and wood, painted black and stained, it was like a warehouse in the middle of a shopping district. They made an effort to make this a unique place, wide and spacious so you can expect they can accommodate a lot of people even on peak hours. During the event, they even let us try facials, spas, makeovers and a lot more right at the cosmetics section at the bottom of the stairs.

La Belleza Hair and Nail Salon: 80% Off Davines Treatments

Monday, June 16, 2014

If you've seen me these past few days, you probably have noticed that I love getting my hair cut and colored the right way. It's all done by Cher and the good people from La Belleza Nail and Hair Salon. I've had it bleached a couple of weeks ago and colored Ash Gray and Red but I didn't know that you can actually have your color done again without going through the whole bleaching process. This means I can have around 3-4 different color changes if I wanted to in just 1 bleach. I felt so good that they told me that and of course, I'd really love to have my hair in a different shade. Their stylists suggested that I get the blue one (which I adored earlier) but when they mentioned they had a new green camouflage like color, I went for that instead. I always like something unusual so Cher started with the color and treatment.

I apologize for the multitude of selfies. We had to LOL!

Now I mentioned that I didn't have to get bleached again so this was the part where they put in the color. Right after this, they put in prolly a combination treatment for the hair so it'll be soft and shiny afterwards. I did feel remarkably glad that it would be easy this time.

These guys are experts in color and they've won several awards to prove it. Now that the color has been changed, a short few snips and a small amount of wax... my hair is perfect!

You see, La Belleza Hair and Nail Salon wants you to experience the same good treatments that I've gone through and got you a deal that you can't resist. Through the popular deal site CASHCASHPINOY, they're offering an 80% discount on Davines treatments for a limited time only.

Get that great hair you've always wanted at less the cost! Hair Treatments using Davines has never been this good!

Set an appointment with them by contacting 09264563433 or 09277172014. See you at the salon! :)

Colours Done Right at La Belleza Hair and Nail Salon

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Hi! I'm John! I'm the author of the Men's lifestyle website KUMAGCOW.COM. Just like you, I'm a guy who always wants to look good.

Efforts? I've had a few; and if you see me in person, you'll say that this big guy probably needs major maintenance and I'm sure you'll definitely notice my hair because that's what my friends always do. Well for starters, I don't experiment on my own like when I did it back in college... because now, I have experts who do it for me. Have you heard of La Belleza Hair and Nail Salon?

La Belleza Hair and Nail Salon is the venture of Cher Nogara and Beng Manuel. Their salon was formerly called Belleza Y Estilo but had to change it recently for registry reasons. Cher and Beng are no strangers in the salon industry; and they've won a couple of awards in the past and still doing hair, nail and make up for artists, singers and even local and international celebrities!

I was really glad that they took care of me when I visited them last week for a retouch. They were OC'd a bit when they saw my vacation photos in Boracay as I had a line on my hair since it's been a while when I got this bleached. They're like that, they tell you like family when you need their services. They also talk to you like one if you get to sit down on their comfy chairs inside the salon.

Bleaching takes a lot of effort and it isn't for everyone. I'm so glad they're quite experienced in hair color so this is just a cinch for them. I am crazy and I want my crowning glory to be really different. I sometimes hate the small salons in my neighborhood who don't even want to color my hair the way I want to. La Belleza talked to me and asked what I want, then suggested modifications when they see that it wouldn't work. Aesthetics is something that you can't teach people overnight and since they've won awards in the hair color category, I trust them 100% and went ahead with the bleaching then color. That time, we agreed on Deep Red and Silver. Using Davines hair products (which is also nature friendly), Cher did it like clockwork. I loved how it turned out!

See what I mean by great color? This is two toned hair one with Deep Red shades on the sides and the back and the top is Silver/Ash Gray Blonde. I haven't met competent people who can do this to my hair. Add to that, they've got nail spa services too so it's like a one stop shop. If you are around the area or have to have something special, try La Belleza Hair and Nail Salon.

La Belleza is located at the 2nd floor of the EK Bldg at #50 Don Antonio II Holy Spirit Drive, Quezon City, Philippines 1127. If you want great hair please have an appointment by calling or texting 09264563433/09277172014. You can also email them at labellezahairandnailsalon@gmail.com. See how easy it is to look this good? I know right!

Oh before I forget, I might get some of you to experience this soon! Stay tuned for our giveaways soon courtesy of the good people from La Belleza!
