Maxicare MAXIFEST Run on December 15

Thursday, October 17, 2019

After getting around 3.1K participants last year Maxicare is doing it again with the goal of helping Kythe Foundation, an institution that helps cancer and chronic illness patients - and hopefully break a Guinness Book of World Records of hugging a soft toy. This is a big event and this year they will bring MAXIFEST to a whole new level. Life has beginning and end but for them, they feel the most important part is how you live your life. So go to runrio.com/race now to register!

They call every Maxicare plan holder a Maxicare champion. They want to see you live your life, acheive your goals, and with this run you would be able to help someone while taking part in a historical Guinness World Record attempt which only a few has been able to tick off their bucket list. This will be in December 15, with three different activities at the 5ECom Harbor Drive MOA in Pasay City. Registration will start on October 18. Maxicare will also have a Veggiefest with over 50 vendors so you can have plant based food in your picnics, have Zumba activities, games and fun with your friends and loved ones. All 4000 runners will also do the simultaneous hugging of plush toys, specifically the MaxiBear which they have as mascot in different events.

Aside from the 3K, 5K and 10K event, they will have a 2K for seniors. Everyone will get a finishers medal, and the cute little cuddly bear which you will use in the activity area for the Hugging World Record Attempt. Guinness World Record representatives will be there to take notes if you will beat the previous record from the US. Runrio will also be organizing the run, so everything will be smooth on December 15 when the run happens.

The Sofitel Manila Half Marathon 2014

Saturday, July 05, 2014

Running enthusiasts, on the starting line!

The last time this happened was in 2008. It's one of the biggest runs in the Philippines that features 5k, 10k and 21k races which gave away prizes and surprises too. This year, on August 17 specifically... they are bringing to you the Sofitel Manila Half Marathon 2014 once again. Proceeds of this event will go to the care of street children of Manila through Virlanie Foundation. It's not just going to be a plain run and will become something that could help the plight of these kids to keep them in school, provide shelter or just overall help them go through life easy.

One of the leading run organizers in the country Coach Rio Dela Cruz of Runrio says "By organizing the Sofitel Manila Half Marathon, we hope to one day become one of the world's most popular running event attracting both amateur and professional runners from all over the world to compete in Manila.  This marathon is dedicated to the children of Virlanie Foundation with the objective of contributing to a better future for the children of Manila". I've also seen some of the other things Coach Rio did before and a lot of people benefited from it. This is something different because I feel he's really doing it for the kids. Aside from the health benefits of the activity, people would be able to make a difference on the kids lives. That alone is something that could surely change them, to make them better members of the society.

Oh and they're keeping it a little green this time because runners are all advised to bring their own water bottles to be used on refilling stations throughout the race. They will not use paper or plastic cups because we've all seen what happened on races that had that all on the street right?!

Registration for this race will start on June 27. Just go to Toby’s MOA, Toby’s SM North in The Block and also in Move on 30th Street in BGC. Before you decide on doing this, please checkout www.runrio.com for complete details of the race. Fees are Php 750 for the 5k, Php 850 for the 10k, and PHP 950 for the 21k. Every registered racer will receive the usual race bib, singlet, finisher loot bag and drinks so you won't get dehydrated. For the 21km runners, they will receive their own finishers medal and shirt. Isn't that neat?

The Sofitel Manila Half Marathon is also brought to you by Gatorade, Gold’s Gym, DOCOMO, StarXpo, DOLE, Delsan Office Systems,Canon Fashion Tailoring,10 Inch Lights and sounds, Dowi Hosiery, Delizio Fine Foods, Diversey, MJ Global, M Plus, Timex, Premier water and Nizoral. This also includes their media partners ANC, Business World, Fox International Channels, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Radio High (where you'll probably see this advertised). For more information about the event, you can also check out the event page on Facebook here "The Sofitel Manila Half Marathon" or you can call (02)7031736 or (02)4634814 or email them at feedback@runrio.com.

I'll try and see if I can run on that day, even for fun! :)

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Back at One - One of my favorite things to sing in Videoke by Brian McKnight =)

I
t looks like it's high time that we enjoy the summer and take a crack at those fun activities with friends and family. I've been lounging around doing nothing these past few days and i think we need something to get our minds off the sweltering heat of the sun! It's the perfect season to see long lost friends and reconnect. Have you ever dreamed of having your own concert? How about that fun little activity they call videoke for starters?! I've been suddenly invited to this awesome competition called BACTIDOL's 12 hour SING-A-THON and I'm so ecstatic! I can't wait to show em my vocal prowess and prove to them that I could last long in this competition.

I can employ the help of friends and relatives to get that number off the mark. It's open to teams or barkadas composed of 10 members. We would have to sing for a total of 12 hours straight in order to win the coveted 20,000 pesos in Red Box Eastwood City. This will be held on March 31'st which is quite near already so I suggest you stretch those vocal chords and make that note count. Visit their great FB page over at www.facebook.com/Bactidol for the complete detailed mechanics of this contest. This might be the thing you and your friends are waiting for. Need I say more?!

So the next time you drop by your local pharmacy make sure you get Hexetidine Bactidol. It's relief from sore throat for 12 hours! It's time to practice with our favorite song now! It's that easy to win 20,000 pesos with your friends! =)

Click to play... take time to listen!

I know some of you may think this is just one of those things. No, I don't think this is something to pass out for. Thousands of Filipino kids are suffering from hunger here and in Mindanao. That is one of the most war stricken places in the Philippines; and if you think about the people also displaced and see them; your hearts would probably break at the sight of them. In this day and age I think its not right that there are still a lot of people who suffer from hunger. The United Nations World Food Programme has been battling out this problem for a long time now but they still need our help. Just imagine yourself drinking that coffee you bought for 170 pesos, that can already feed about 17 children. I know you worked hard for it to enjoy what you want to have... but think about it, a warm meal can always get this kid throughout the entire day at school so he can educate himself, get a job and eventually get out of poverty. How can you not find a way to try and help?

The World Food Programme Philippines is going to have this great event called "END HUNGER: WALK THE WORLD 2011" on May 29, 2011. This is our chance to help and make a difference. Strap on those rubber shoes and participate in these events!

2K Walk = P250

5K Run = P500

10K Group Run = P10,000 (Composed of 10 members)

All the proceeds will go to funds that would help alleviate hunger in Mindanao. That bowl of grain and rice you purchase for them can go a long way for these kids who are not even sure to eat 3 times a day. Let's all make sure to participate this time and go to Mall of Asia at 5:00 AM on May 29, 2011 and get your act together. No matter how small our contributions are as long as we help our impoverished brothers and sisters in Mindanao you will surely feel blessed!! I'm going there so I'd like to see you all!

I'll also do my share by informing people at work and you should too. Please think of the kids while your at it! They really need our help!

You can register at these shops!

TNT, Unilever, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and DSM are major sponsors of this event. TNT has helped in logistics and sending the needed food around the world. Unilever and its brand Knorr also sent needed foodstuff for the less fortunate. Pizza Hut and Taco Bell raised funds from their restaurants and helped a lot in the past few years. It's so nice to see these big corporations doing their share in eradicating hunger. They did their part... how about you?

It's time for you to share... it's time to change someone's life!
Let's get them out of HUNGER and into SCHOOLS!

If You Were In My Rubber Shoes

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

I am trying my best to go to the gym every day. I have work on weekdays but once I go out of the office I can go there because it is literally just beside it. I am also trying to do fun runs on weekends at Fort but I haven't prepared for anything like that. Initially I just did it for maintaining a healthy lifestyle but these days it probably is a necessity to shock myself with different workout regimens as advised by my physical trainer. I don't hold back on the food intake since I am stressed but I need to try running now to compensate for it. I already have the basic gear and one thing that I think I should replace is my running shoes. I've got a lot of shoes but I never invested on these ones for athletic activities. I need to buy a decent pair soon because my old one looks worn out.

I am currently trying to replicate everything on treadmill and it seems that I can do 5 or 10 kilometers on an easy day. I wouldn't be gunning for a marathon since that would take time to prepare but this particular distance seems achievable. I would probably have an easier run if I do it on real pavement but right now I'd settle for the air conditioned confines of the gym. If I win one of those running events I'll let you know. As for now my quest for another pair of shoes is on. I already have 30+ (for different occasions) but I wouldn't mind another one!

Where Do I Start?

Sunday, March 15, 2009

I'm an ordinary guy with ordinary hopes and dreams. I only go out of the norm for work and causes that need me to perform more than what's expected of me. I was listening to the radio this morning and it struck a cord with me. Thousands of people from this side of the globe went running for nature. The fun run proceeds would go to a plantation of trees and maintenance of a water shed so people in the city and our kids could still have clean drinking water in the future.

I always ask my self "Where do I start?" in helping to clean up the environment. The thought of it is just complicated because I am not much of a nature person. I am educated so I know a couple of things to help; even in my own little way. At home, we always use soaps and chemicals to clean up things. These are very biologically harmful if you think about it. Inventors now have coconut oil based soaps that are 0% harmful to the environment that even if you use it to clean stuff on rivers not a single molecule or helpful bacteria would die from it. There are lots of ingredients from these products that are only seen from remote locations from countries like Peru and Brazil. I personally would recommend you start from your own households and take the initiative to purchase only natural products like these. Green cleaning products not only do what it's obviously for, it also infuses good energy since everything is herbal.

Harmful industrial processes such as rust removal just got natural too. RUSTERIZER, a new product that you can use to remove those forming rust in metal components in your house is so nature friendly that no plants could be killed by it. Isn't that just great?!

In your own way, in your own home you can do your part in saving nature. No matter how small it is or how far you run in your local marathons in life, it adds up to the effort we need to do so our children's children would be able to drink water safely.
