OK Game!

One of my photography groups is in shambles now. I know some of the facts and it ain't really good hearing the stories. I wanted to be impartial because I know most of them. We are pretty close. It's just so sad to see this happening to a very promising bunch of people. I don't blame them but it would have been nicer to inform everyone first before doing this. Now that people felt betrayed everything's just become complicated. They need to get all the things that was owned by the group to be still in the group. Where is this thing called "Word of honor"? Apparently it might have been swept away by floods brought about the afternoon monsoon rains haha!

I'm playing Sonic Rivals in my PSP. I got a few new games downloaded over the weekend. I think I should often do that so I always get interested in my gadgets. Unfortunately I couldn't do the same with my Playstation 2. It's just gathering dust now in a box somewhere. I want to have that converted so I can play more titles. I'm looking for more but this one is keeping me busy like Mario Kart. I love this! Do you have any suggestions?

My Aunt died this morning. She will be in Paz. I have to wake up early so I can go there and help them out. After that I'll go to work. This is a pretty busy day indeed! My sincere condolences to my cousins in Canada and the US, now you have to go back to the Philippines. This is really sad news but what can we do, its life!

See you guys later! I'll be blogging from work! (image from IGN no copyright infringement intended)

A Nocturnal Learning...

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

With the way things are going now, it looks like the NOCTURNALS photography club that I belong to is gearing toward higher goals this 2010. Apart from the plans they mentioned a few months ago, the guys want to push for a business venture since we all are doing well in our respective shots. I want to push through with what I have been doing on my photos and probably make a name for myself in the coming months. I want to show people more of what I can do with post processing and that would really take me a while but if I do strike some deals with people at work and play I would be able to get my photography career into new heights.

Maybe I have not been doing the best I can the past few shoots because I am continuously learning. That is essential in the growth that I am gunning for. I hope I can get to learn something new with masters on this craft. Now who will get me that plane ticket so I can get to New York and be an apprentice to my idol Xander Angeles. I love his work… and I hope to emulate what he is doing right now for his clients. I want to be as famous as he is in the fashion industry. Where and how do I start? I might be in the right track already but it would just take me time. I’m not a professional photographer anyway… NOT YET! But I am planning to be one in the future and do what I love. I love my job; but it wouldn’t hurt to have a thing to do on the side for luck! Hahaha… I am still optimistic!

Happy Birthday to ME! I Just Turned **!

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Hahah of course I won't tell you how young I am. I just celebrated my birthday on the 6th and true enough I had a blast! Actually I survived not telling anyone about it when we went out Saturday evening. I did not want anyone to know anyway, but I think this particular day was special. It was different than the other birthdays I spent the last few years. You ask why? It's because my brother is in town and you could tell that we are complete... he hasn't been here for the last 4 or 5 years so even the Christmas celebration would be different.

My friends from photography fondly called NOCTURNALS covered 4 clubs that night and I was gearing up to shoot too but I begged off when one of our gigs got canceled because there were too many photographers that time. It was awesome because I had more time partying rather than doing the deed. The ladies there were nice! I even like some of them... Did I get drunk? well I made it a point to get drunk. I needed to do that so I could forget some things I should not mention here anymore LOL. My best friend that time was tantararan!

COW

Yeah that is me in the picture LOL NOT! Now I thought it was going to be a temporary thing since I fancy the San Mig Light when I go out. But man the Super Dry was great for me, I did not even have a hangover the next day even if I had about 6 bottles that night. It was just right for me... I hope we get to drink that much soon LOL.

Aside from that, I had to run to my friends in Pasig in the morning for breakfast and a chit chat on a British guy who turned out to be the fiance of a friend's friend... well that was confusing too but they were not able to talk to him that much even if they were all drunk.. I hate that with Pinoys... English is supposed to be our 2nd language but it looks like even they were having a hard time talking to him. Another guy was even mentioning words that are not in the dictionary. WEIRD! I was a little ashamed about that REALLY! But I was already 28 hours awake so I did not push for that anymore coz I was so tired to think about that.

I got home around 8 or 9 in the morning and my Mom opened the gate for me greeting me a happy birthday, that was sweet. =) I slept and woke up around 4 or 5 in the afternoon. We went out that evening for Pizza and Pasta in Itallianis because I wanted them to experience the great time and food I had there a couple of months back. My brother thought I was sad, when actually I was just thinking about work while I was there. Not a good thing I know but hey I have to work that night. I got the team pasta and chicken too. That was nice! I hope my brother does not worry about me.. that I'm not having fun... because if you think about it, it looks like I had fun already! :)

I am one Happy Happy Birthday Boy! =) Thanks to my friends and my family!

The Art of Strobing: Winston Baltasar's Workshop

COW
Sir Winston in Action!

COW
Strobing at it's finest!

It was Sunday afternoon and I just woke up from last night's clubbing event. I know I had to have some more sleep and work the night after but we all were waiting for this day. I know I was not able to get the chance to meet the master a few weeks before for fashion photography lessons (which is my passion by the way courtesy of Xander Angeles! XD) and I was getting excited of my Deedee (Nissin DI622) because this week it was going to be STROBING. Yeah I know, I have a lot to learn about this subject and the one before that so missing this one again would literally be like abandoning my craft. I made sure I get to see him this weekend even if it meant less sleep for me so I jumped out of bed and took a cold shower... got CAMMY (Mah Crumpler) and set on to go to Makati for this very important workshop.

It is all about lighting and how it could enhance our photos. It was also time to try some things I read from the XBOOK of Xander Angeles and how to take fashion and post processed photos to another level. I was inspired by his work when we got the chance to meet him Friday evening at the DPP Loaded event and if there was one thing I will do after this strobing workshop by Sir Winston, it was to make my output mostly like the magazine covers Xander does for US fashion spreads.

Here is my shot, hope it did work LOL!

We started off having discussions on how we can practically apply lighting in outdoor shoots. Our settings obviously would differ in different lighting conditions so after we got out group assignments and had our models made over we went upstairs to take some shots so we can compare notes later on about our output and the settings we did to achieve it. Sir Winston shared some advise on how to make our shots better on the extreme outdoor lights we had that afternoon. As you know, the sun was up and we were all under the sweltering heat worried about our model; and how those strobes would go off if the on cam flash was not getting detected because everything was too bright. My camera was making the best out of it since I found out my batteries just ran out. Too much thinking went into all of these but the one thing I forgot was charge my camera and get batteries for the flash! Geeze!

Anyway I already have some shots taken that afternoon. I thought I did not have enough photos for critique later on but I listened to the things he said to other photographers and learned from their mistakes as well. The direct sunlight was harsh and it needs a filler in order to have ample amount of shutter speed and stop the motion of the subject (hence no motion blur) and the aperture level would dictate how much bluer skies we want on the outdoor conditions we were in. We needed to use a smaller aperture to keep the ambient exposure constant while not sacrificing flash synchronization on a subject since distance and ISO would dictate what would happen on a flash unit that only would reach around 1/1000 rates. Going over that is not advisable so some of us were only at 1/150 +/- 5% and stayed on aperture setting that would get us a nice blue sky. Some of my shots went overboard and got too exposed in the beginning but fixed that after a couple test shots on two locations in the roof deck of Sir Winston's house. My indoor shots fared better though because I had more control on light; and experience on studio settings from my photo shoots before. I was not able to borrow a light meter this time but the setting was not that different and the adjustments were minimal since I had to only use my on board flash since Deedee went kaput on me. The others were able to use radio triggers on their cameras and take advantage of the umbrellas they brought for the occasion. I was in the end very pleased with the few pictures I had to work with in post processing. Here are some excerpts on the part where we raffled off some prizes for that shoot. Awesome DPP and FHM issues for beauty and you know what were given away by Sir Winston.. that was a treat!

Nikon and Canon DO NOT MIKZ!!! LOL

Overall I learned a lot and the guys did too. Some had fallen inlove with the models that day LOL while some were just around for the experience shooting with the NOCTURNALS and Sir Winston. I hope the next one is going to be big... I want extreme makeup and "totally" almost naked glamor shots. I know there maybe time for that next year! I will be there! Thank you to our awesome models Ms. Jinri Park, Ms. Rowhe Rodriguez and Ms. Rix Benares. My favorite MUA in the whole wide world Ms. Yuan Yim THANK YOU!!! Without you this would have never been a huge success! Thank you to Sir Winston too! =)

NOCTURNALS

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

It was a great day, well not so great because I was lacking sleep from my photo shoot last Saturday where we almost got side swiped by drifters in Greenhills. That was a nice event though I could have prepared more the next day for the NOCTURNALS photowalk that was held in University of the Philippines. I know, don't ask why I still had time to go to work even if I woke up early for this one. I guess I had the urge of taking shots even when I was dead asleep the day before.

Photobucket

The NOCTURNALS by the way are composed of men and women (although I have not seen on yet!) that work for call centers around the metro. Since we had call center operations too, I think I qualified for that so I went ahead and met the people behind the images I've seen in Digital Photographer Philippines (a photography forum). The call time was around 8AM but I think I arrived there around 10 sumthin. I couldn't remember I was so sleepy even in the cab. When I got there, there was an event so they closed some of the streets. Little did I know the cab driver already passed the oblation's street so I asked him to stop... Grrr... I had to pay for that and walk back imagine that!

Anyway, I met Ismael Alippudin and Aleksys Paat in the steps of the Main Building. Introduced myself then we headed to the Bell tower. We took a couple of shots there, the Beta way, and the Sunken Garden. It was nice to see more people. At least I would not be contained in just a few groups I joined earlier. Now there will be VARIETY as they say in what I do because each group has their strengths. I hope I can contribute to them what I have learned in the past, and learn more of what they already know. The important thing is, we were all having fun! Here are a couple of shots from that photo walk. Enjoy!
