Tuesday, September 28, 2021

G
etting bigger year on year, that's what Amaia Steps Pasig is doing. Nestled in Vico's backyard, Pasig used to be an industrial town that is now becoming a fast rising cosmopolitan city - which is now full of huge malls, hotels, restaurants, schools, and booming businesses at the Ortigas Center district.

Amaia Steps Pasig already has existing mid rise condominiums in a sprawling 4.5 hectare development in Barangay San Miguel. The three 9 storey buildings Aria, Blanca, Esperanza will have a fourth one that will be called "Clara" soon. This addition would be a good buy especially for young professionals, for those who plan to start their own family, or investors who would want to take a dive in real estate. There are studio units, deluxe and premier sizes raning from 23-45 square meters. The place already has existing amenities being enjoyed by home owners like the multi purpose hall, pool, basketball court and a playground. Soon there will be retail shops and arcade so you don't have to go out to get your essentials. It's also near Ortigas CBD, several malls and restaurants so you don't go hungry if you don't know how to cook. The nearby Kapitolyo is sprawling with foodie destinations, the most hip joints so you could hang out when everything goes back to normal. It's also near the Greenfield District, C5, major thoroughfares so you can go to and from your home to a different city.

It's a nice place to live especially if you're still in the look for a new home. You can visit AmaiaLand.com for more details of the property, or get in touch with a real estate professional to help you with getting a unit today.

Rocco Nacino for ELORDE Boxing Gym Ayala Malls Feliz

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

I have always envied the life of Rocco Nacino. A flourishing career, a happy lovelife, a new show (DOTSPH), a dream home, several businesses, and now and addition to his successful Elorde Boxing Gym in Ortigas, the brand new ELORDE BOXING GYM at Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig City. This is a spot he runs with actors Mikael Daez and wife Miss World Megan Young, Jason Abalos and a few business partners. Suffice to say, they’re very passionate. No wonder they’re all at the best shape of their lives!

The new gym has ample amount of space with a ring at the back part of the gym plus several sections of the room dedicated for boxing exercises and even sets of circuit training. It’s a fun way to actually work out if you are tired of the run of the mill gym time where your only cardio is running on the treadmill. Honestly, it’s a worthwhile change of pace so your body wouldn’t think you’re slacking and is perfect for young professionals who feel the need to relieve stress before or after office hours. You could imagine this could also get your boxing dreams started. I know of a lot of of my friends who now enjoy a fitter body because of it. This is one of the reasons why Rocco is sharing this because it’s also part of his personal journey. He’s seen the benefits of this personally and swears by the Elorde system of training. They have seasoned professional and amateur boxers as coaches so you’ll be getting the right kind of workout. This has had shed pounds off a lot of people, it also kept them healthy. The benefits are immensely proportionate to the effort you give, so you’re not far off seeing results. The only requirement is proper equipment and it’s available too in ELORDE Boxing Gym in Ayala Malls Feliz.

Here’s Rocco telling us about it:

Now they’ve got promos going on for beginners and for those who have been to Elorde in the past, membership os very affordable and you’ll get a lot of savings too. Or if you prefer, they have daily rates which are also very reasonable. You can try it out!

Rocco by the way also stars in DOTSPH and hosts a health show in GNTV. He also told us the reason these are located in the east of Manila is because his dream home is going to be in that area and he promises to go to the Feliz branch as much as he can because he’s been very hands on in his businesses. So for those who would want to see him and some of his fellow celebrities, this would be a good place to also start. But don’t stalk them! Just say hi and they’re very willing to lend a hand.

If you’re up to it, you can visit them at the 5th Floor of Ayala Malls Feliz’ Garden Area. It’s so picturesque there, a perfect place to start your fitness journey. Rocco will be there sometimes, and the whole ELORDE Boxing Gym Ayala Malls Feliz team will be there to support you. That amounts to a lot if you want to stay fit.

The Executive Lounge Restaurant at The Malayan Plaza

Monday, October 15, 2018

Luxury Private Dining is much of an experience that everyone should get. I’ve been in quite a few but this one which happened a few nights ago was pretty special. It was amongst food blogging industry friends set at the Malayan Plaza Hotel’s 33rd Floor. The setting reminded me of an upscale atelier but without a designer this time. It was us, the Executives of the hotel, the Chef who was cooking a storm in the kitchen and a couple of servers who made sure we were comfortable while we dined.

The place is apt for private dining. The table was set for a little over 10 people, daisy art on the napkins, table runner ran from end to end with gold accents and trims, plus faux candle light here and there. It was pretty stiff and quiet on my side whilst it was a little crazy on the other, but we didn’t mind.

We all knew this 10 course dinner was going to be epic.

The canapes arrived while we were stationed in the holding area, one had chopped eggs and mayo dressing, the other was more on the savory side with mushrooms. It was nice.

The appetizers comprised of the Quesillo Con Tomate, Chorizo Pamplona and Manchego, Adobar con Carne and Tuna Tartare - all served in one plate. Saying it’s a mouthful is an understatement. The Quesong Puti was the perfect pair for the fresh tomatoes, herbs and garlic. The chorizo felt quite good with the salty manchego and the ligjt drizzle of white truffle oil, it is so addicting to tell you honestly because me and truffle are like brothers, we are very good together LOL. The Adobar con Carne though wasn’t as soft as I wanted it to be, perhaps a little over done or might not have rested, but the flavor profile is there, it was a bit heavy that I’d consider it part of the main course. The Tuna Tartare was good though, very light and you could really feel a little kick (tad smoky) prolly because of the paprika, chili and wasabi they put on it.

This is the Almejas Mejillones con Escabeche. It's clams and mussels with croutons and a broth made of stock and wine, plus a few herbs. It is very light, but a perfect way to start the meal.

The Basil and Honey Mule was not too strong, just right to accompany the slew of strong flavors they introduced us with. They pair drinks with your dinner components so expect to be a little fun that usual if you get hit.

Some good things off the menu include this Talakitok con Misono which is Jackfish and Tuna sashimi with misono jus, their own fresh salsa and beet paste. I adore white fish with wine, this is more on the savory side.

Their version of Callos was topped with mashed potatoes, my blogger friends and I was trying to find bits or maybe slices of chorizo but the chef did a spin on it and only included the flavor. It had tripe but almost none of the stench, so this is okay.

Love on a plate, this is their best dish that evening called Shitake Wagyu Bar. It's Wagyu beef grilled to medium doneness, infused with Shitake mushroom flavors, herbs and more. It was earthy and savory, felt deep because of the flavor profile they wanted to achieve means watching the cooking process like a hawk, the right temperature and all that drama. It was well worth the wait.

This is the Chef's Bourbon Plate. It's main ingredient was Dragon Fruit, chopped up with orange fruit, like, pear and bourbon cream. I guess they didn't flambe it anymore because the flavor profile they needed was already in the cream, it's a light dessert, not too sweet just as I like it.

For the sweet tooth, the Chef made this Arte De Remo. It's like an oaty revel bar made with cream cheese, oats and dessicated coconut. It was nutty and special which I guess came from crushed pistachios??? So if you love sugar, this would be the better choice.

The Malayan Plaza has 4 function rooms available on the 32nd and 33rd floor of the building. It's a nice place to hold your banquets, cocktails, events and intimate dinners. If you would like to experience the same thing we had, go call +63 2 7060055 and ask for available slots on schedules. Things fill up immediately so if you're planning for that next birthday dinner, proposal, or just small family gatherings, give them a call okay?

Thank you Chef Aldrin, the GM Ernie Baclayon and thank you to everyone at the Malayan Plaza for re-introducing to us The Executive Lounge. I will be back for more to look for that Wagyu steak and the light desserts.

Au revoir!

The Country's First Christmas Musical Street Light Tunnel at ORTIGASEAST

Saturday, November 11, 2017

This innocent looking street behind Tiendesitas in Pasig City will come alive this Christmas season. See those tubes on top? That's actually there for a reason because Ortigas and Co. is changing their approach to real estate development this side of town.

Nicole Cordovez hosted the launch. This is the first Christmas Musical Street Light Tunnel that you would only see in ORTIGAS EAST, which is the new name of the property formerly known as Frontera Verde.

This marks a number of firsts in Ortigas and Co., they have been inspired by light tunnels and light shows around the world and surely this will be something that Pasig City residents and nearby cities would enjoy when they come inside the property. This is in keeping with the sustainability in line with Pasig City government efforts. They will have this whole development for mixed use. Including a hotel, residential buildings, offices, an even better mall that will complement the existing Tiendesitas. They will also be extending shopping hours, have a food bazaar, the different events this Christmas season. You should definitely go here because it looks so nice!

They also did a few things during the launch. Here's the show to start things off.

Pasig Mayor Bobby Eusebio said "It's my honor to congratulate everyone in Ortigas and Co. to open the first ever animated Christmas Tunnel. Thank you for keeping it in another level, exceeding our expectations and opening your hearts of making Pasig City as a Christmas destination. I wish you all the success! Congratulations and mabuhay!"

The tunnel is powered by 2368+ pixels in 3 different colors. You will be able to see it in all it's glory by taking a walk and driving through it. Now imagine how that would look like at night, it'll be unbelievable. The Christmas Musical Street Tunnel will be up until next year and will start the show every night when the sun comes down, till around 10pm or a little over that when the mall closes.  They actually do it every 30 minutes! Now go shop at the mall and enjoy the show!

Happy Holidays!

The SELFIE Cafe at Robinsons Galleria

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

There's a new coffee shop in the 2nd floor of Robinsons Galleria in Oritgas. It's called the SELFIE Cafe. It's a Filipino brand, a brain child of entrepreneurs who wanted to make their kids dream into a reality. Yes, this was actually thought of by kids and why not if the technology is already available right?

They have really nice pastries and breads available and they invested heavily on the coffee. They wanted a specific blend and they spent a lot of time in testing beans from the local market. They wanted a robust, full bodied, dark chocolate like coffee and they couldn't actually get it with the local ones to fit their palate. They resorted now to directly importing from Italy so they could get the coffee they need to brew. The fact of the matter is, they're making not  just the coffee special, but the way they actually prepare it. The cafe is actually called SELFIE for a reason, they make your selfies into your cup of coffee, no joke!

They make this right in front of you. They only can do this on the frozen concoctions though because the gist is they need something to hold the amount of whipped cream that it's going to be printed onto.

They have a section of their coffee shop dedicated to take your selfies. It's like a studio so you can either transfer your existing ones or just take your selfie with their phones. They have a booth at the side where all the magic happens. They will top your coffee cup with about an inch of hard whipped cream, so there's a surface to print on your portraits.

Or if you're too shy and you're with a rowdy bunch, take a GROUFIE instead and print them on ALL your cups! You might have to wait a little longer though. Plus their SELFIES are really detailed, like seeing a real photo printed on your frozen treats.

If you want to enjoy a cup or two, or just take a break in the great Ortigas district, you may visit them at the 2nd Floor of Robinson's Galleria today (just go up the escalator on the front entrance along EDSA). The coffee is good, the hot ones too.

Trust me on the Mocha, it's good and not too sweet! Just the way I like it!

Three Sisters Restaurant in Kapitolyo, Pasig City

Monday, June 15, 2015

Paul Pike of Three Sisters Restaurant

Skipped one or more traffic lights to travel all the way to Kapitolyo in Pasig City and have lunch at the iconic Three Sisters Restaurant. I think I've been here once when my friends drove by and bought take out but I've never been able to dine at this place let alone see their menu. It was somehow a good thing that we got to not only have their food this time, but also meet the owners. They spent a few minutes of their day to talk to us about the history and how the place started. By the way, they just transferred a couple of houses from their original location and is now at #10 East Capitol Drive Brgy. Kapitolyo Pasig City. The former property they were renting got sold so this place which originally was their home became a temporary place while they transition into a new pretty one soon.

Paul Pike showed us generations of his family, including Lola Rosa his Great Grandmother standing in front of their store which was only a refreshment parlor in 1941. They only sold soda to offer refreshments to people passing by since they were near a local cemetery (November 1 was a big deal even back then) because it was hot and humid in Poblacion, Pasig. The people who were drinking then wanted to eat something so they put up a restaurant. It got destroyed during the war years and they went to Antipolo to take refuge, when they came back everything was destroyed and they had to start from scratch. They rebuilt it, and opened a new one in the early 70's by buying a new lot. They also showed us their original driver Pablo in photos in their first delivery truck. About the name, they just thought about a catchy name and isn't really reflective of their family because they were made up of 4 girls and 1 boy, it came from a Talcum Powder commercial on radio during the post war era called Three Beauties. It was just spun from that. They gained a lot of exposure because celebrities and other stars came to their place one of which is Nora Aunor who often held press conferences much like what we're used to today. He also showed us photos of the original house and how it served as their restaurant since then. All their staff, practically had family still working in the place because they trusted people especially the recipes of the family. Now some of them are still cooks who make the famous items on their menu. You can also see tons of memorabilia from way back then that are still working in the store. They even use the ordering system when everything else like computers and POS bogs down. They had people come from a lot of places looking for their food. Pop Talk did a show there and their sales went up 60%, then Kris Aquino did KrisTV and the next day, they had to close down because they got 100% more customers after that, some even got mad because they ran out of food literally. The exposure, the community all welcomed it, the young ones included. You can also see students after school, but they still have patrons who have been here for years.

The Food

They're introducing The Fiesta Barkada Meals intended for groups. I can imagine around 3-4 people can have this in one sitting. They already have this on the menu but are having this in one package so people can save more for a meal. Rice is also included but not on the photo. As you can see it's a pretty good deal.

DSC_0002
This is Sarap Pinoy. It consists of a bowl of Hototai, Calamares, Crispy Pata, Kare Kare Vegetables, 2 pitchers of Iced Tea and 2 plates of Leche Flan.

DSC_0003
This is Hototai. They made this to liken those in Chinese Restaurants and said that this is his Father's version. Paul said they're pretty open to new ideas for the menu and their work hard on making each of them still affordable so everyone could have it in their restaurant.
DSC_0004
This is their Calamares. It's a staple in Filipino bar food. They do serve beers I think in the place so if you're up for a celebration, then there's no place better to have good food and local beers that are affordable than here.
DSC_0005
This is one of their best sellers, the Crispy Pata. They also serve this with Kare Kare Veggies so you can mix them together and have Crispy Pata meat with your favorite fiesta viand the Kare Kare. It's pretty good in fact, I paired it with the spiced vinegar and shrimp paste (bagoong) that's a little spicy. It's perfect with rice so don't hold back on that.
DSC_0006
This is their Leche Flan. The recipe is made by Paul Pike himself and his personal preference is something that's both creamy, dense and not too tangy. It's not too sweet, it's just right and I even took some home too. Folks at home asked me immediately where I got it and they said it was good. Some bloggers got parts of it too and had the same observations. I'd definitely recommend this when you're in Three Sisters Restaurant.
DSC_0009
This one's their Pinoy Espesyal. It consists of Chicken Barbecue, Sinigang na Bangus, Lumpiang Shanghai, Pakbet, 3 small bowls of Buko Pandan and 2 Iced Tea Pitchers.

DSC_0012
The Lumpiang Shanghai was still hot and fresh. The pork filling was really good and you can still taste how new this batch really is because they probably made it only upon ordering. This would be good as appetizers on what's about to be served, wait til you get the next ones.

DSC_0013
The Pakbet still had really fresh and crunchy vegetables on them. They mixed this with Shrimp paste but I didn't really eat bitter gourd that much so I only chose the pieces that I could eat.
DSC_0015DSC_0014

This is their Sinigang na Bangus (Milkfish in Tamarind Broth) which is a staple in every Filipino home. Their version though is a bit on the fruity side because they used more tomatoes to make the broth a little sour. The milkfish is also fresh so you don't have that fishy smell problem. Press on the finger chili a couple of times and mix it in if you prefer a more spicy version of it.

DSC_0016
This is Three Sisters Restaurant's Chicken Barbecue. If it's something grilled that's coming out of their kitchen. expect it to be good. I think it's in the marinade they use for these chicken pieces that make it so good. It's a little on the grilled sweet side and I love every bit of it. The lovely caramelized chicken exterior plus the sweet and savory meat would be just lovely on white rice. Order tons of it please!

DSC_0017
I mentioned that together with your Barkada Fiesta meal, you'll have three small bowls of Buko Pandan. It's light, it's sweet and would be the perfect way to end the meal. Although, I suggest you order a couple more extras because these next ones are THE best sellers!

DSC_0011DSC_0007DSC_0020

This is their famous Three Sisters Restaurant Barbecue. In the few hours that I've stayed in their establishment, I counted about 7 people coming to the counter just to order this and have it for take out. It's soft, it's juicy and the marinade is just superb. I can taste it in each bite and I don't think they put in too much fat in it either. Unlike the usual barbecue that has a piece of fat in the end in the country, they chose to go full protein I guess which just made this super good. Trust me on the barbecue.

DSC_0010
Kris Aquino's favorite is this Pork Liempo. She waited quite a long time for this to get cooked, but one bite of it.... she said it was all worth it. I did have tons of this on my plate. I cut it up, and had a sauce on the side made from Soy Sauce and Chilis. Bring on about 2 cups of rice for a single slab and I'm good!

DSC_0008

I don't think I have to convince you anymore to have the Pansit Bihon from Three Sisters Restaurant. It's got all the nice things plus a ton of Pork Rind on top. I had half a plate of this and loved how the pork just made this thing more interesting. You get the salty porky bits mixed with the usual homey preparation of Pansit Bihon, what more can you ask for?

Mind you, the prices here are unbelievably affordable. They're not high end, but they can beat those pricey ones in flavor. Make sure you bring your friends and family especially if they miss Mom's cooking. Three Sisters Restaurant presents a worthy alternative to those you prepare at home, and they do it quite well too. They also have a branch in C5 corner Oritgas Avenue but I strongly suggest you go to Kapitolyo as it's more homey and no fuss. Call them for reservations, or if you would like to order in bulk/cater at (02)631-9247. They do all that!
