The New Nokia Lumia 625 With Amazing 4G Speed!

Tuesday, October 01, 2013

Nokia Philippines invited us over to see what they had in store for the Filipinos this quarter. As you may have seen a couple of months ago, they launched the one and only Nokia Lumia 625 and the good news is it's here! Yeap you heard that right, the Nokia Lumia 625 finally landed on Philippine shores and it's here to give you and I a better alternative to clearer, crisp videos without fear or prejudice in providing a 480x800 sized 199ppi density screen. I must say it has so many things that Filipinos would really love right from the get go. I love to take home the one I was playing around with but I'm sure this will be available on all carriers in a very affordable plan. Mr. Karel Holub, the General Manager of Nokia Philippines introduced to us this 4.7 inch wonder.

The Nokia Lumia 625 is the most affordable LTE phone in their line. This isn't sold quite largely yet in the country but the promise is to have this be available for the ordinary Juan. They are pricing this quite fair at an RRP of 13,200 pesos. It's one of the most capable phones they have that will mark quality on the areas of  music, videos, imaging and even navigation. This is also going to hold a revolutionary camera engine that can also shoot pure motion HD; plus will also be capable of wireless charging that is unprecedented on other smart phones. This handset also has HERE maps pre-installed which is like augmented reality if you use it in real time. You can even see the location of your friends on it's prime time, which acts more like that dragon radar you used to see in the Dragon Ball series.

We also tried them out that afternoon together with other media practitioners and it's quite surprising to note that this Window 8 powered phone only requires around 119 MB of RAM to run smoothly. If you choose an upgraded version of it via Windows Phone 8 Amber, it will run around 212 MB on a good day. Isn't that amazing?

While other phones still use wireless G IEEE standards, this one uses BG and N plus, it can also act like a hotspot for your cheap friends who don't have a data plan LOL. Maybe in the near future, Nokia will adapt to AC standards too. Why not?

Mike Smith, the Product Manager of Nokia Philippines says that they used to have 7,000 apps initially on the Windows Store. Today, they are now up to 175,000 and steadily increasing in useful and worthwhile apps. This is what they were gunning for in the beginning and it's such an awesome treat to see that developers have taken interest in the phones and OS that runs it.

The most important factor in choosing a phone for Filipinos by the way is "Battery Life" as their survey says. So Nokia again will step up the bat and say that this Nokia Lumia 625 has the perfect Li-Ion 2000 mAh Battery to come with it. It's going to last 552 hours of stand by time, 24 h (on 2G) or 15 h 10 min (on 3G) talk time and a whopping  90 hours of music play. I don't think the nice phones you have can match that.

For what it's worth, I'd really love to have this one soon. How about you? Don't you think it's time to have a Nokia? =)

WP8 Nokia Lumia Smartphones Gets AMBER Update!

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

nokia-lumia-920

Heard the news? Nokia just got even better because their Lumia handsets that are running on Windows 8 platform just got a whole lot smarter with the recent software update they call AMBER. There will be new improved features, new applications and a glance screen displaying a clock which was never seen in the handset before. This Windows 8 update on the handset also means that they would be able to harness a new FM Radio capability and a greater XBOX Music and Internet Explorer interface on the phone.

As for imaging, this comes better as the camera adjusts automatically even on low light situations. Perfect for indoor or night shots. The camera can do upto 3200 ISO which is better than most DSLR/digital cameras. You can have the device to be in silent mode at a single flip which is perfect for those meetings and personal chats. You can also double tap to unlock it and have your photos uploaded to personal SkyDrive accounts if it's already full. You can also personalize maps as needed because as soon as you have AMBER you can just download the country you prefer instead of the whole world map, that's just awesome because it saves so much space!

Phone updates are currently ongoing. It will start with the Lumia 920, 820, 521, 810, 928 and soon for handsets Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720!

Nokia Philippines Launches The New Nokia Lumia 925!

Wednesday, August 07, 2013

We were invited to a posh afternoon of all things Nokia last week at Salon De Ning in The Peninsula Manila. Manila's tech bloggers and media were excited because it's the launch of one of the most awesome handsets ever produced by the Finnish company called the Nokia Lumia 925.

Executives from Nokia Philippines, Microsoft Philippines and Smart Communications were there also to witness the unfolding of this newest piece of hardware from Nokia which boasts stern support for all 2G, 3G and 4G networks, 16 Million colors via its AMOLED capacitive touch screen and a tough Corning Gorilla Glass 2 exterior. It's only 4.9 ounces with dimensions set at 5.08 x 2.78 x 0.33 inches. It feels so comfortable in the hand when held up. It's got Wi-Fi support for standard 802.11 a/b/g/n networks so if you are on an access point that supports old networks, you can still connect with that (more like backward compatible).

The primary camera is 8 MP which also has the propreitary 3264 x 2448 pixel Carl Zeiss optics. The camera also has features like optical image stabilization, autofocus, dual-LED flash on the back and even has photo interface where you can edit the image onto different ones/modes not found in other brands. They painstakingly made sure they have the right kind of software to support their images which is a plus on my books.

Nokia Lumia 925 also uses PureView technology which delivers outstanding photos in the goal of almost having it look life like. It's also got geo-tagging so you know where you took the photo and have that indicated on all apps that support it. A single touch on the screen takes the photos, it analyzes and shows you the best photo if taken on a series. It's also got 1080p HD video at 30fps and has video stabilization if your hands are too shaky.

It's a tad bigger than my iPhone5 and has got pre installed software from the Nokia Store which you can also mix and match according to your personality. The free apps are quite nice too and complements the handsets quite well. They have worked with these game and software developers closely so they can bring you only the best for your phones.

To test the photo capabilities of the Nokia Lumia 925, they got these two boxers cum models to do their thing. The handset can take series of shots and put them all into one photo, making you the master of your own images. +1 on that! It's images were quite good even on the very dark Salon De Ning but I haven't seen much noise on the output as we tested it out that afternoon. Game titles such as Temple Run, Toy Story Jigsaw Puzzle, Photo Funia Capsule and Amazing Alex are available so if you are into these games, go ahead and grab one of these Lumia handsets!

The handset will be available at SMART mid August so make sure you go to your nearest wireless center and ask about special plans and how to get it. It will also be released in the market around the same time so if you are looking for a smartphone with great specifications, features without breaking the bank, get the Nokia Lumia 925!

Windows8 Touch Enabled DELL XPS12

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Dell has been a recognized brand for hardware, specifically for laptop and desktop computers worldwide. This particular event I went to was the launch of something special, though not out of the ordinary they've revved up some of their former designs and got them on this new Dell XPS12.

Chris Papa the Country Manager for DELL says its another milestone to launch xp12 among their other great models soon. He says this too will come with services unprecedented in the Philippine territory because they will cover nationwide. They will also extend it to nearby Asian-Oceania countries so if you are frequent traverlers, you can take advantage of this awesome ultrabook which transforms from a laptop and into a tablet via a flick on its screen. The latest ultrabook is made slim, very powerful, and functions as a fully featured tablet. This is by the way their first touch enabled device on Windows8 platform. Though I'm not a fan of the OS they are gearing to take advantage of its full touch capabilities which other manufacturers haven't that much been really doing on their devices (well some do but that's another story).

Aside from that, the DELL XPS12 is one tough cookie. It doesn't look and feel tough but when I held it, structurally the swivel display does not look flimsy at all. As you flip the display over, you can close the lid and you can use the XPS12 as a tablet. Tried to change orientations but the Windows8 response wasn't that great. I don't quite know the gyro capabilities but it wasn't following that fast.

Alvin Go, Dell Philippines Product Manager showed how remarkable the device is. Made mostly of carbon fiber (one of the lightest in the market), its hinge is also machined aluminum so it's quite sturdy even if flipping transpires on the display. It's got a 100% SSD hard drive so data response is very fast. The 12.5 Full HD WLED and Corning gorilla glass just makes the display quite vivid for the video or photo connoisseur.

Then another big thing was announced! Support services for these models are now available for free nationwide and a couple more countries outside the Philippines. It means that no matter where you are, if you need help with your DELL equipment they can easily help you within 48 hours (that's if phone support won't be able to help you right off the bat!). This is world class On Site Service and is free for 1 year with notebooks and 3 years for high end PC's.

Ricky Banaag, Country Manager of Intel boasts of better, longer battery life and faster processors for more models of Dell products. Intel also worked with brands that have ultrabooks on their line and receives positive feedback from consumers. The area of convertibles is gonna grow; and technology among all things will have to become well adaptive to what the consumer wants. It's quite nice to see these brands launching in places like Manila now. Be sure when you check out the stores, find out if DELL XPS12 would be the perfect powerful companion that would satisfy your gadget hunger. You don't have to stop what you're doing; this will surely change the conversation wherever, whenever.

Congratulations on this launch Dell! I am impressed!

ASUS: Launches New and Incredible Windows8 Devices

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

It's been a while since they launched one but here goes Windows 8 tapping on all the brands mostly on the ultrabook market. Touch technology has definitely gone headway and they know for a fact that this calls for integration and more. When Windows 8 launched weeks ago, leading manufacturers like ASUS knew what it meant for their consumers and thought of having this used on their new flagship devices. We got first dibs on the launch of ASUS Taichi, ASUS Transformer Book, ASUS Zenbook Touch, ASUS Vivobook, VivoTab and the ASUS All in One PC. It promises a new era of devices fit to take advantage of the operating system that's got lots of promise too.

They are challenging other manufacturers in these line of products and the choices are really good. Although there are some reports previously that think it wouldn't be viable for the consumer, I saw something different from these devices and they've made it pretty good and handy. Bulky perhaps but in hindsight there are specific markets that they can target which utilize norms of a laptop computer and the convenience of touch screen. Even though I'm not a fan (admittedly) of Windows 8 from the couple of times I've handled it, I'm sure there are some people who would love to have this on their hands especially the ones who need to present often for clients etc. Sales people must have been rejoicing in the background somewhere.

Mr. George Su Country Manager of ASUS Technology PTE LTD (Philippines) says that this is a new welcome development in technology and says the personal computing era continues to evolve driving change everywhere including those in specialized function devices like ultrabooks and tablets. People are looking for more powerful devices that also has tons of storage capacities; plus the fact that it should be portable too. Price wise he was giving oohs and ahhs upon announcing the ones they were launching. Imagine ASUS Vivobook starts at 20,995, 26995 and 35995. Whilst the ASUS Zenbook which boasts of its thin framed full HD and IPS display sold at 42,995. The Vivotab sits at 42,995 even if its got a tablet feel and stylus. The other one falls at 38,995 but its got an 8hr battery life and weighs only 530 grams. ASUS Vivotab on the other hand only costs 25,995 and my favorite ASUS All in One PC costs 59,995. The most expensive one that they have is the ASUS Taichi who's design is a fusion of a notebook and a tablet or ultrabook. It costs 85,995.

Ms. Marivic Abueng also mentioned that they wanted Windows 8 and IE 10 to steadfastly run on these new ASUS machines and still have it all made affordable to the masses. They are also currently using nano molding technology for the body, a 5MP dual camera and additional 32gb of cloud storage free! They are very proud Windows 8 is doing what its supposed to do; and even on some instances improve more on the overall feel of things like that of an Apple device (even better than that!).

Then we got to see and feel the merchandise. Take a look a this!

The ASUS AiO PC ET2300 or All in One PC is dubbed as the perfect home masterpiece. With a whopping 23 inch Full HD display it's the perfect place to watch and play with the whole family as you experience this great piece of hardware right in the comforts of your own home. It can run on Windows 8  and Windows 8 Pro and uses 3rd generation Intel® Core™ i7/i5/i3 processors. The memory alone can break speeds up to 8GB DDR3 at 1600Mhz. It also has 2 x SO-DIMM so you are quite sure of faster performance. The storage on stock is a 2TB SATA hard drive and graphics card a NVIDIA GT 630M. The camera holds 2M Pixel at 1080P. Faster transfer rates expected since it also supports USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt plus a 3-in-1 Card Reader too. It also has an e-SATA combo, HDMI-in/out, and its own TV tuner for those programs you love to watch at home! The bigger screen has 10-point capacitive touch capability and a monster sound production since its speakers are a combination of 4x 1.5W Internal Spatial Array Speakers, 1x 3W Internal Woofer and 1x 5W External Subwoofer. Internal Wireless cards are of 802.11b/g/n + WiDi standards so streaming wouldn't be a problem. Although I would have preferred they do AC already, one which router companies in the US have already released!

This is the ASUS VivoBook. It's got Windows 8 OS and ASUS SonicMaster audio software that adds great sound, a deeper bass range and better, more powerful output that regular notebooks in the market.

The ASUS Zenbook on the other hand is Ultra thin! Full HD and has i7 Intel Processor on it. Faster and efficient energy consumption on a gadget that's full of features yet very portable. It's a dreamy piece of hardware. Who doesn't want this on their office?

Mobile productivity just got even better because of the ASUS Vivotab. It's a mobile dock and a tablet that you can put together or detach. This I wanted for myself. It's got extra long battery life that you can depend on while others are fighting over the plug for charging. It's the perfect piece of equipment because of the stylus which you can use for drawing or writing. Plus its got that Corning Gorilla Glass thingy so you won't have that much scratches on it.

It's a nice line that they came out with and true enough I've witnessed more things in that launch to rave about. I didn't really have that much time to look at the other pieces because other press people and tech bloggers were hoarding the devices. Hope I could do a thorough review soon. For now, drool over these devices and head on to stores that sell ASUS, it's one of the best running on Window 8 and its a good thing they are taking advantage of touch technology. We just wonder if there will be more things to come for this OS. Probably soon. But this is something definitely INCREDIBLE!
