It's like clockwork to go to MODERN SHANG after church or just strolling around the mall for the love of dimsum and savory meals. You know you're going to a legit one when much of the diners are actual Chinese and see them enjoy the meals in store. Recently, they're given us much more reason to go there as they launch their "Afternoon Tea" that only costs Php 400- Php 600 and is already good for 2-4 people. With dimsum, noodles, even pudgy dessert items, it can surely fill you up without breaking the bank.
These were what we tried at the MODERN SHANG branch in Greenbelt 5 a few days ago. They spruced up the place and I must say, the modern Chinese French look felt quite bougie, I liked it a lot. You won't be disappointed bringing in friends and family because by any standards, they'll find it cool. The food too is pretty solid, as they've been doing these for several years, I think they've had the hang of things early on and made sure their dimsum choices are above grade. I actually had seconds on some of them and contemplated to have a few more because it was that good.
Vegetable Dumplings
Meat Buns
Har Gow
Chicken Feet
Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai
Salted Egg Custard Bun
Xiao Long Bao
My personal favorite, the Hot and Sour Soup
Salted Egg Shrimp (ordered a la carte)
They've got good drinks too, this was Citrus and Mint.
The Afternoon Tea sets cost almost Php 600 and can save you almost Php 300
There's really more on the menu but I think they'll make a hit with the "Afternoon Tea" meals they have listed on it. It's got the right amount of protein and carbs, dimsum items that anyone would find filling at that price. This is only served from 3-6PM on weekdays, totally worth it.
MODERN SHANG is at the Greenbelt 5's 2nd Floor, They also have branches around Metro Manila which serve the same menu, but I would strongly suggest you give this branch a visit. It looks fresh and modern, and your family will love it too!
Crazy but I thought this show was shelved already because they've already done the grand presscon a few weeks back but didn't materialize til now. This September 5, you'll get to see the much awaited "The Greatest Love" starring veteran actress Ms. Sylvia Sanchez who plays Gloria, a mother that only wishes to have a happy family. Sound simple? Not quite, as the story will intertwine with the relationships of her children. Amanda (Dimples Romana), Andrei (Matt Evans), Paeng (Arron Villaflor), Lizelle (Andi Eigenmann) and her grandson Z (Joshua Garcia) will be part of that and the cast is excited about it.
Ms. Sylvia Sanchez says "Now that I have a show, I felt so thankful because I only know Sharon Cuneta songs, but I also fell in love with the character of Gloria. It's about a mother, the ones that would block a bullet for you, we all can super relate. We just had a scene with Aaron Villaflor where we had to stop him because he did vices, the exact dialogue, the exact moment, it was something that I personally experienced. After 27 years, I honestly just want to play support roles but this was really just given to me by God so I just have to accept."
"Every role I do is a new challenge, even if it's a mother role I have a larger responsibility to Gloria and I had to fix it because it is the mother's story. I am a mother in other projects, but the one that Gloria plays is for the lead and I wasn't able to detach from it because I always took it home. Thank God I was able to learn about that. I loved my Mom even more because of this and it's because I learned a lot. My Mom became a little close to this state and later on I might be in that state too, so I understand even more. We didn't get to show it yet but we were taping already so the pressure was even more. I wanted it to be shown on Mother Mary's birthday."
"These kids are crazy, we all eat together, they are all so nice and it's a happy set that you want to do work everyday. We all know we're actors and we would want to highlight a fellow actor's scene if we need to. I'm glad even my sons promote the show and they're even more excited than me. The story also discusses the fears of a Mom with a gay kid, she accepts him but still have fears and you'll see that. I love gays but I did fear about having a son or daughter that is gay, having them be alone when they grow old, things like that."
Joshua has a lot of promise, he's very willing and eager to learn and that's something good. He connects when we want to, a little shy maybe but I reach out to him a lot because we have a lot of scenes. He now opens up and he's very promising as an actor even if he's so young.
I did gay roles in the past, I was afraid of it because it's heavy drama. They want me to do this and I prepared for it. I still have a lot of work to do. I became more transparent, I was able to become more understanding with my Mom and break down walls. It's different with my family and my problems with my Mom.
Dimples Romana arrived a bit later. She said "My Mom was very open with us and after being a part of this, I felt different in this show because sometimes we forget that our family is just here waiting for us. It's just a surprise sometimes in our scenes, we don't even know how hard it is until you see them on the set later on in the day. Amanda is even a bit mad, it scares me in a good way and I hope that's exactly how people will feel. I personally don't know if I'd even connect my own experiences but I hope the scenes would touch a lot of people.
The production said the reason why it was shown this late is because they realize they had to add more revisions in story telling. The goal was to add another feel, a different flavor in story telling that's why we had some delays. It's also management's call to put it in the afternoon slot, but it's a good venue and time to tell a good story. It's the new prime.
The show is about to end this week and I was thinking of releasing this as an homage to the men and women who have been painstakingly doing their job to make a really interesting show in the Kapuso network. I really love how passionate I've seen these actors and actresses were and in the fulfillment of their work, I sat down with them to ask about how they feel now that the show's about to end. Lead star and vixen Andrea Torres shares her experience working with her co stars and what she'll be missing most about doing the show.
Here's our video interview:
It's been a while since I've seen Andrea but it's a good thing she still remembers me. She's extremely dedicated to her craft, I've also heard her co actors tell us how much work she's put out just to make this show look good on screen - and I don't think I'll be ever surprised if she lands another project on primetime in the next few months.
She deserves it and if luck finds it's way, she'll be an even brighter star as she is today. Thank you for the opportunity to talk to you Andrea and sorry for bugging you during your taping in Batangas. It was a pleasure interviewing you!
We had the chance to visit the set of GMA Afternoon Primetime's successful show "Wish I May" a few days ago in Quezon City. It's starred by the good looking and super sweet Miguel Tanfelix and the gorgeous Bianca Umali. BiGuel as most of their fans call them is one of the most successful teen pairings the network has ever done and they attribute the success to the throngs of supporters they have before and during the show.
There's going to be more exciting scenes that you should watch out for in the show. The one they did before this interview had a lot of teens gushing because even if it was a little on the sad side, they had to hold hands, look at each other after a long time of not meeting each other.. Can you picture that? Miguel had to run to another location that time and right after he got off the shoot, I positioned my self on the sidelines and started interviewing him. I also asked him a little about their BUM photo shoot and what they wanted to wear during summer. He quipped he was glad to have the grunge look back but still a bit colorful because of the season. Here's the short interview we had with him on video:
Bianca arrived a little bit later and it was sweet to actually see them together. These two have been doing this for years and seeing their dynamics just proves that they really care for each other. Miguel said that he's not doing anything this Holy Week as he's a Bible Christian, whilst Bianca said she's visiting a few relatives together with family. Here's their interview on video:
If you remember, Bianca was wearing this gorgeous purple gown during her prom night. They didn't have stylists and only relied on their own to dress up that evening. I liked the part where Miguel said he also had to do a showdown with some of Bianca's classmates but he was a little shy to do things during that event. Bianca was so happy even if they only had a few hours of preparation for that date as they had work that same day.
Wish I May is still showing on GMA's Afternoon Prime. Make sure you catch it 2:30 PM weekdays on the channel. Thank you so much to Bianca and Miguel who were so accommodating. Thank you also to the staff and crew of the show who made us feel welcomed on the set even if it was so hot that day. Thanks for keeping us cool all throughout the interview!
Thank you also to GMA Social Media for letting us tag along on the set. Can't wait to see the scenes on TV when it gets aired. I'm telling you, there will be tons of surprises on how their characters would turn out on the show.
It's summer and what better way to have fun in this season by having a short escape with these guys. Vince Velasco, Enzo Pineda and Juancho Trivino are on different stages in their careers and getting ready for what's next with their mother network GMA. We talked to Vince Velasco first and asked him about his current projects. He was very secretive about it and says it had a lot to do with the nature of it so he couldn't tell us right away. He'll tell you what he wants to happen with his career, his work ethic, how he started, his hopes and dreams! Here he is with the rest of the interview.
I find Vince very appealing. I probably have seen him before because he's done stints in Philippine Fashion Week which I cover religiously in the previous years. His personality, although you might think he's a little aloof or doesn't want to talk to people, he goes out of his way and disprove that. When he gets comfortable, I bet he can talk for hours. He's a very good chap and I hope he'll be utilized well in the coming months. This Ateneo grad should go places, he's working very hard now in fact and GMA's trusting him. We hope it continues.
I consider Enzo a friend. Whenever we meet, then get into interviews, it's like we're just catching up. He's easy to talk to and even if there are some questions that might be a little uncomfortable to ask, he still goes and tells us what he feels about certain issues. He clearly has made his life a lot better than in the past and feels everything is falling into place. His plan is to reinvent himself, and we're seeing it all happen. Slowly but surely, he's gearing to get more matured roles; and perhaps get a larger range of acting and leave the teeny bopper roles he's been doing. He's also planning to achieve it in the next few years, I'm excited!
Here he is discussing his thoughts about showing off his hard work, on his own body. They're doing big summer numbers in Sunday All Stars. He's a tough cookie, he also talks about his new relationship and the career path that he wants to take.
Enzo is in the prime of his career but still, he's very driven. He wants to do a lot of things and he's in the right track it seems because his star is just shining brighter. Brands are still continuing to trust him because he's also giving back what they need from him. This serious actor is fighting to see his career into new heights and hopes his goals would happen real soon. He's not contended with just plain things, he wants to drive to be the best version of himself in sports, in his work and for his family. He also wishes to have more tangible things like properties, investments, business, in the near future. I'm sure he'll succeed because he can do it, because his driving force is within himself and he is winning.
He arrived a little later but brought his A game, Juancho Trivino is here. He's currently in several shows and is pretty busy with Bubble Gang. His deep set eyes, gorgeous physique (which he does work hard for) and height, make him one of the most bankable stars in GMA. He's also currently paired with Ashley Ortega of which we have previously interviewed during the Valetines day event. He's working with her on Instadad and has grown really fond of her. It'll premier on April 5 from 4:30-5:30PM. He's doing everything and we guess it comes with the territory. Versatility meant that he had to do comedy, drama, romance and other things if he's gunning to be this much of an actor.
I guess he doesn't want to be just another pretty face on TV and is showcasing what he can do at an early stage. He's still considered to be a new guy but isn't holding back, that is certainly appreciated by his fans. With this new pairing, he's up to make hearts melt even on very complicated circumstances on this new show. You see, the story would be a little difficult since they are going to be tested right from the start. How would their family handle these kind of conflicts? How would their lives be affected? What would three ladies and their Dad become once they know the truth behind Juancho and Ashley's predicament? That's exactly what you will find out once the show starts!
Juancho is a good guy and I hope a lot of people see that. His genuine charm, love for the craft and being highly adorable can make him succeed in this industry. He's super bait. I hope that he'd be rewarded, even just for that.
Thank you so much for spending time with us guys! Thank you also to Enzo for doing something that afternoon, you're a good man!
