Bringing Value from the Sea to Filipino Homes: Ligo

Watching documentaries and seeing the plight of fishermen in the provinces made me realize how some of our fisherfolk's practices are not sustainable. We consume quite a lot of sardines, as it is one of the most affordable food items we have that is properly kept, canned and lasts a long while. In a 2017 survey, they listed 9 out of 10 pinoys actually consume it.

As commercial fishing boats become a norm, overfishing is becoming a huge problem. The amount of sardines they take out from the sea just wouldn't be able to sustain production. Add to that climate issues, and it's a tragedy waiting to happen.

Century Pacific Food Inc. who produces various sardine brands like 555, Lucky 7, Fresca, and well loved brand Ligo launched a campaign called "Sustendido Bulan" at Bulan in Sorsogon. This aims to make sure that sourcing raw ingredients including fish is sourced sustainably. They also want to make sure fisherfolk are educated about processes and make sure the long term supply of it.   

They also went over and beyond by doing community work with their products, teaching nutrition to empower the community and have an even better resource management practices in this location. CPFI and Ligo wants to enable they understand that there could be a supply chain that could benefit them all. Through various partnerships, education and innovation, they would be able to balance the needs of people to bring value from the sea to Filipino homes too.

Putting their call "Lamang ka sa Ligo" is a practice that gets both consumers and suppliers at a beneficial standpoint. Something that would not harm the planet and not have overfishing at these locations.

As of now, they have trained 250 fishermen and women about sustainability. They also accredited 500 families as suppliers. They also now created over 850 posts to employ them in plants across the region and had 1075 kids benefit from their school feeding programs. They also noted how rejection rates of fish went from 13 to only 3% and hopefully have eliminated resource strain because of the "Sustenido Bulan" efforts. They are following UN Sustainable Development goals and hope to maintain these gains in the coming years. We fervently hope this becomes beneficial for future generations and be practiced at different locations. It doesn't have to be in one place of course!

Ligo certainly brings value not only from the sea, but to Filipino homes nationwide!

Century Tuna Superbods 2022 Finals Night

It's been a while since we've last seen Century Tuna hold this event because of the pandemic, and this year, they're back with a bang with the Century Tuna Superbods 2022. Hundreds of Filipino health buffs, body positivity enthusiasts have lined up and auditioned for this and it.... was definitely a show.

Aside from the executives, the event was graced by Bea Alonzo and our boy Alden Richards. Judges had Anne Curtis and former Darna Nanette Medven-Po, it was a sight to behold before the event started. Needless to say, they all brought their A game and talked about their causes on video. They donned athleisure wear and walked the stage.

Congratulations to the 32 finalists, it was a really hard battle to do since they're all in their best form. In the end, winners Kurt Bondad and Christelle Abello topped the competition. Runner ups were Michelle Arceo and Gee Plamenco Jr.. Mind you the prizes were huge, 500K and 200K respectively, plus, it's tax free!

Century Tuna Outs Heartwarming Short "Dahilan"

Ugh... here goes Century Tuna doing a heart pinching video to showcase the love for Mom. Seeing it yesterday for the first time made me very emotional, because as a certified Mama's boy, you always want the best for your Mom who sacrificed her life just to make you who you are today.

This is the handy work of famed director Antoinette Jadaone entitled "Dahilan". Guy works out even during the pandemic, eats and cooks a healthy meal, prepares a sumptuous brunch then fetches his Mom, carry her up a flight of stairs and had a heartfelt date. He made Mom cry, with joy in her heart, appreciates the gesture of her son. Ms. Antonette says Century Tuna and her ideas jived to put in front that it's not just physical strength that is important these days, but also mental. This talks more about living a healthy lifestyle so you get to spend it with people you love.  They call this "Century Tuna LOVE STRONG". This is so apt for the times.

CPFI Launches 100% Plant Based unMEAT

Century Pacific Food Incorporated just launched unMEAT, their plant based meat alternative which is now available in Swift Meat E-Tindahan outlets and in Shopee and Lazada. CPFI is a global company with a Philippine footprint. We are aware that there are players in this place, but we are offering an alternative. Price is close to actual meat, the look and taste of meat without any preservatives. At Century, they have some of the most variety of products. Unmeat is plant based, protein rich, has fiber, and has the same benefits as with other plant based burgers. Our r&d worked hard to make this the tastiest but with less than ten ingredients.

 

Their production has been done in Wenger Manufacturing Inc. and their goal was to find something that had texture, the feel and flavor of actual meat. Century Pacific met with them and found how good they had. In 2008, they were already attending plant based proteins and wanted to have something that has the flavor of meat, but with all plant alternatives. They use NON GMO soy products for these. Symrise Flavor decode, design and deliver flavors that would work for the consumer. It also lasts 9 months under frozen conditions. They cost it quite nicely too at Php 135 for the unMEAT Burger Patties (226g). The unMEAT Sausages (225g) cost the same while the unMEAT Nuggets (200g) is at Php 120 and the unMEAT Giniling (200g) is at Php 120 which means it's all quite affordable.

Century Tuna Everybod Superbod Go See 2020

Just dropped by the Century Tuna Go See as the competition nears its final casting call on the 27th of February. This is their 12th year, and they've probably seen it all. This time they are going to include more people as they expand the age requirement for the "Ageless" category. Yes, even if you are 60 they can do wonders on stage.

Carol San Pedro, Greg Banzon and Angel Jones served as judges and they will choose the finalists who will appear on the final casting call. We also interviewed CEO Greg about why they chose Alden and Nadine for Century Tuna Everybod Superbod 2020, I guess it was easy:

There were some wild ones, funny ones really good ones from different walks of life, this just proves you can be anyone but still have a healthy lifestyle. They also shared their advocacies, they also shared their journey on how they achieved their physique.

Now there is still a go see happening now, if you're up to it just go to Megamall Fashion Hall and fill up forms and do the process. Who knows, you could be the next Superbod!

Toni Gonzaga and Paul Soriano for Gold Seas Tuna

It was a fun afternoon of food and health as new brand Gold Seas Tuna announced their new endorsers and availability in the Philippine market.  Sourced from the South Pacific, the tuna that Gold Seas can is fished responsibly (tuna and marine life preservation in their system of catching). This is sold by GNP (General Nutrifoods Philippines) in the country and they want consumers to recognize their brand as premium but priced reasonably. They want the next generation to also enjoy this and the flavors of the Gold Seas is the chunkiest tuna that's got a wide array of flavors like Tuna Chunks in Olive Oil, Olive Oil with Chili, Springwater, Tuna Chunks in Herb and Garlic, Lemon and Pepper and Mild Indian Curry. They also have oil and water variants of Yellow Fin Tuna. 

This product is meatier and not as fishy as the ones you see in the market today. I tried to make a Bento Box earlier and got fried tuna pancakes with it. It's perfect for lunch boxes. If you think about it, kids wouldn't even know they're eating veggies and fish because it's too pretty!

Tony Gonzaga and Direk Paul stressed how important it is to breastfeed and eat healthy to stay in shape. Tuna has got a lot of Omega 3 which is so good too in many dishes. This brand did it better when I tasted their tuna straight from the can. Make sure you try it out and compare the next time you cook. I like the lemon and pepper flavor personally.

James Reid for Century Tuna

Century Tuna just launched a new TV commercial starring half of popular #JaDine love team, the good looking James Reid. They have already amassed 4.1 Million views and have been seen in a lot of sites. This is because they didn't want to be complacent so they thought of this to expand their market. 

James says "I don't have a routine. I always try to do different things because my body tend to relax if I repeat things. Tuna and high fiber diet is best for me because I'm an ectomorph. #Blessed"

With the things going for him in his career, his lovelife, he's been always successful. The brand believes James is the perfect endorser because he lives a healthy life and the consumers definitely see he's got it. He works hard for it, even if there's a gap in making the advertisement he works out which also surprised people from Century Tuna. How can women not love James Reid?

The Century Tuna Superbods Nation 2016 Finalists

We gotta do what we gotta do.

Back from a very successful campaign last year, here goes Century Tuna again to choose the very best bodies, lifestyle and journey to the healthy version of themselves at Valkyrie in BGC. Century Tuna Superbods Nation 2016 is another installment of their yearly male and female search for that embodies their premium healthy product Century Tuna - and it looks good from where I was sitting. Men and women from across the Philippines and the US auditioned for this search to tell their journey and how they achieved their perfect bodies.

They've been doing go-sees since a few months ago in different provinces, different cities. They also have made arrangements to do another one in the US so the Filipino community could also participate in this year's search.

I had my favorites right off the bat, and here are some highlights from the press preview that evening:

Century Tuna Superbods 2012 1st Runner Up June Macasaet (who happens to be Manhunt International 2012 winner!) and Century Tuna Superbods 2012 Winner John Spainhour were there as judges, and to witness the event!

I had my eyes on veteran Philippine Fashion Week models and of course Clint Bondad who did a couple of movies already. The new ones can give a fight though, there were really sexy ones and the men with 8 pack abs which you can't discount. They introduced themselves first, then after that, we had our eyes glued on the stage when they showed why they're worthy to be at the Century Tuna Superbod Nation 2016!
