Erich Gonzales and Jericho Rosales for SIARGAO

Wednesday, December 20, 2017

It looks so dreamy just by looking at these screenies from the movie. I was handed these shots a couple of days ago and I must say, they've probably done a remarkable job in cinematography. Though from the looks of it, no matter how talented that guy or gal may be, Siargao must have been really picturesque already. This is the setting of this movie by Direct Paul Soriano called SIARGAO.

It feels more like a story that would grow on you. The pacing is light, like the drama that it tries to exude from the start. Like star crossed lovers meeting in the perfect place and in the most opportune time. With no assurance if love would grow or not, a thing that you would ask if you would want to gamble and experience it under the hot beachy sun.

Jericho Rosales is no strager in this genre, and if you don't know, they've proven it so many times how effective he is in series he's shown in different countries. His eyes alone could communicate the emotions, no woman would even want to push him back if he wrapped his arms around them. If that would bud the romance between his character and Erich Gonzales, I couldn't think of anything difficult that would come out of it, unless she had issues. Will this be a good one for Diego and Laura?

Erich who plays Laura (a Vlogger) is your run of the mill tourist, stepping on uncharted territory. I just don't know if she's going to be that hopeful or careful in falling in love in this film. Is this a city girl meets country boy story? I don't even care anymore because as much as I want the story to move, I think they're more or less... showing the majestic spots of the province in the film. I love Erich in anything, she moves and tells stories when she speaks. Like Jericho, she can move you with emotions and cry buckets of tears with it. You will also see an Erich that could surf, cliff dive and run around like an adventurer. If you want to know her story, then you should watch SIARGAO for that alone.

I saw Jasmine Curtis a few days ago during the ABSCBN Press party and she was really skinny. Her beauty evidently still there, but this would be a test for her. What would she play a part of aside from being a strong willed environmental activist in the province? It's her turf but what would she play in the lives of Diego and Laura? She would look fit as the third party, more so since she depicts a tough cookie. We can't blame if she would whip out all her guns if she's also gonna fall for Diego too. He's probably a local hearthrob eh?

SIARGAO is a movie by Ten17P, same people who did Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis, Mariquina, Dagitab and Transit which all received accolades here and in the international scene. It's part of the entries in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival 2017. If you would want to see niche film as Direk Paul explained, this would be it. If you also love Erich like I do, make room for this in your list of must watch films this Christmas Day!

New Shows LolaBasyang.com and #ParangNormalActivity on TV5

Friday, July 10, 2015

Typhoon and rain was outside but no one could stop TV5 from launching new shows as they held the grand press conference of two new shows, LolaBasyang.com and Parang Normal Activity. The brains behind this child project is the Perci Intalan and Jun Lana headed production house The Idea First Company that worked with the happiest network in the country TV5 so they could bring brand new spanking shows in your homes starting this Saturday/weekend.

Richard Gutz Basyang ParangNormal

I still remember the time when legendary comedienne Chichay and Luz Valdez played the role of Lola Basyang. She was the iconic grandma who always got her grandchildren learn about Filipino values by telling them stories, legends and have them sometimes in it too. It's a pretty epic story line for its time and I must say, kids were a little obsessed to sit in front of their TV's or drag their parents on movie houses just to see it. This show though will have one of the greatest actresses in Philippine showbiz industry, Ms. Boots Anson Rodrigo. She says "It's the same type of stories, same legends that Filipinos loved. The only difference is you've got a more hip Lola B telling her grandsons/daughters about the usual. What kind of Lola B? For starters, her name is that way, her hair ain't white (she's dyed her hair), she's not on a rocking chair, she's not wearing a "Saya" anymore and wears pretty colorful clothes, neither is she just reading off a book as she's now on a tablet. She also is a blogger and she's going to be seen in almost all those popular social media channels most people are on and things are going to be told in a grand way every week."

The first episode will be a story about Maria Makiling. A really gorgeous fairy that lives in a mountain based on Philippine folklore to be played by TV5's princess Jasmine Curtis Smith. She wasn't at the press conference but one of the co-stars hunky Carlos Agassi was there and we asked about how he ended up on the show. I also asked about what he's been doing in the past few months/weeks since he's not that quite visible doing projects like these, and he says "I'm doing "Swak na Swak" in ABSCBN and also taped Imbestigador in GMA Channel 7 just a few days ago. I'm a free agent and nobody's managing me right now so everyone can go directly to me if they want to get my services. When this project was offered to me, I was more excited to have the chance to work with some great people in a different channel, all good!" Meanwhile, Vin Abrenica was there too together with Yna Asistio because they'll star in another story in the LolaBasyang.com series called "Ang Plawtin ni Periking" (Periking's Piccolo), which is about a small magical flute which you'll see in the coming weeks.

Lights went off and the spooky soundtrack played... it did actually frighten the kids a bit and when they got off the stage, these three teen boys came out hunting for what seems to be an entity... perhaps a ghost. I'm sure everybody had their own horror stories and these guys are putting in a little fun into it by getting some full blown stories that would make you laugh, smile, think and be a little frightened in between if you watch their show called #ParangNormalActivity.

Richard Gutz Basyang ParangNormal

This show may have a horror component to it but Director Perci Intalan assures that all the episodes were designed to just be light and wouldn't scare the pants out of your kids when it premiers this Saturday on TV5. You'll meet the ghost named Charlie played by the bubbly and pretty Ella Cruz. She'll be together with Carl Guevarra, Ryle Paolo Santiago, Andre Garcia and new discovery Shaun Salvador. You might be thinking almost all these boys and Ella hail from ABSCBN but they've been properly asked to do this specifically, they're also in between work so it was the perfect time for them to do it here.

It's a mix of young love, comedy, playfulness, horror, mystery, adventure and everything in between but of course, it's not all rainbows and butterflies because they're going to be a little miserable when the characters of Jester Hernandez, Nico Nicolas and Joshua Joffe. In the succeeding episodes, they'll tackle a different story, a different creature or a different mysterious happening that will make the audience stay at the tip of their toes but still laugh in the end because it's still going to be a happy ending. Eunice Lagunsad and Kiray Celis (who just revealed she's got a big crush on Tom Taus) will add a little more spice to the stories, so don't discount them from any episode (and see her flying!) every Saturday!

Street Dance Takes The Stage on Move It by TV5

Monday, February 16, 2015

Stressed... unbelievable.. you know what I just watched? It's MOVE IT, the new dance program from TV5. First of all, the judges were so strict... their standards, were way up there and they kept on looking for things that were not present in the single performers and the dance groups that did their thing on the dance floor earlier. Talent wise, I don't see anything lacking with their performances but I guess that comes with the territory. The celebrity part of this show also entailed a couple of people from the limelight, to do dances like the others. We got to interview a couple of them during a short visit to TV5 studios in Novaliches a couple of days back.

MOVE IT

As you may know, Move It is all about street dancing. There's actually a lot of genres included in this art form, and they had to do it with less rehearsals, and very hard routines as accorded by world class choreographers. Oh by the way, do you remember the lady in the photo above? Seen her before? Yes, she's Lovely Abella. You've probably seen her in Wowowee doing eggrolls and skits with the host. She's always in a very funny scene so you might not see her that much as a serious dancer, and this is exactly what she wants to change.

Lovely says "Every week there are going to be eliminations but if they skip one (when they like the performances), they'll take two on the next week. Sometimes they're going to have no eliminations, all of which depend on the judges. There will be 10 sets of solo performers and 10 groups of dancers. We're all friends and we're the first batch, we're competitors but we're trying to help each other. I've been known to only do sexy numbers and I had to work my butt off so I can do dances like hiphop and other dances I'm not familiar with. They gave us different music, genre, so I did something like a sexy hiphop number. This week, I'm doing Ciara's 1-2 Step which is kinda in my alley. We're also in this program with Annika, Chris Leonardo, Sergio Garcia. The prize here is really huge and I've seen quite a lot of our peers who are really good at what they do. With 4 Girls and 6 Boys, it's a tough battle but we're doing our best in this show. When I started dancing, I always thought about "just work" but this was a dream that just came true. When we got to the US, I had to make sure I learned the ropes because it's what dancers do. Eventually I did. When I win, I might put this into a business because I wanted to make sure of the future. When I put this in business, I learned a lot and now I'm making soaps, lotions, cosmetics, and doing online businesses. I want to put up investments because at the same time, I'm making sure my family is secured even if the dancing doesn't go well, since it's seasonal. If showbiz doesn't work for me, then I'd have something to fall back on. As for pressures, last week, I had to revise a lot of things because I thought the dance needed a lot of improvement. It's my first time to also dance a solo so that takes a lot from us. Before we did this, we talked to the judges and saw the street dance genre being strictly implemented. There will be no excuses and they want to tap the underground street dance community and give them a venue in Move It."

MOVE ITMOVE IT

You probably think you've seen him before, you're probably wrong. He doesn't go out that much on TV unless he's greeting his Dad. He's not Joshua Zamora, he's the son. (Pause here and feel old LOL) He's Job Zamora and he's been dancing for quite a number of years already. When asked if he attributed this to his talented Dad, he says it's more of a skill and he had to really do the legwork to do it. He said "It's pressuring to be in a competition where you get to be eliminated. Dad maybe good, more in old school. These days it's a little hard hitting and different music is involved. I've had a lot of offers to enter show business but I just love dancing. There are some times when I was the weak link in groups, I went through all that. I just had to train hard and learn new things. It's really a continuing thing. If ever I win this thing, I'd put it into a business, a lot of businesses, I love diversification. (Sorry about this bit girls) I have a girlfriend (he says he's 23 years old) but like me, she's non showbiz. Everyone's a threat, so we have to work doubly hard to win this thing. We also have a social media thing in this contest, like a peoples choice thing which needs votes online. I hope people would support us all throughout the competition."

100 Groups were auditioned initially and only 10 were left for the actual show. So you know these guys are really serious about what they want to show on TV. Aside from that, they've got some of the best judges, equally world class, I can't even believe their standards when I watched the show this evening. I knew I had to write about that. Anyway, the show airs at 7PM every Sundays on TV5!

Jasmine Curtis, Tom Taus Hosts Biggest Dance Show "Move It!"

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Move It Clash of Streetdancers
Jasmine Curtis and DJ Tommy Taus hosts MoveIt

One of TV5's prized artist Jasmine Curtis and showbiz returnee Tom Taus now known as DJ Tommy Taus will be the hosts of MoveIt, a one of a kind dance show where dance Champions from different places in the Philippines will converge in a contest designed to find out the best of the best dance groups this country has ever produced. This will now become the go to program that will get those talented dancers a venue to show what they can do for the love of Dance, camaraderie, of course some money too. If they can't fund themselves to go to international competitions, this would probably be something that can do it for them and change their lives. I've seen the actual competitors that already joined the preliminaries and all I can say is, they're absolutely, freakingly doing dangerous stunts and moves that I've never seen yet in competitions. It's also a variety, some of which would give Voguing a place in Philippine dance scene a run for their money. Yes, they've got everything in one show and Jasmine and Tom might give you some moves themselves to open the show. Fun? I guess! Watch it on Sunday, January 25 too!

Oh and the Australian Hi5 will also be dubbed in Filipino if I'm not mistaken, all will be seen on TV5 and I think there are talks to have a local version of it too. Who knows, it might get big as the famous one right? Kids would love that. It will show weekdays from January 20 at 8:30 AM.

TV5's Wattpad Presents Now on Viewstream App!

Thursday, December 18, 2014

I've been following the numerous titles being shown every week on Wattpad and find it very much like what is written in the books published on the Wattpadd app. The close renditions probably got us all hooked because from what we see, it feels so good tying them up with an actual human being while being shown on TV. Though sometimes, I miss one or more of the episodes because I have events to cover in the evening that coincides with the show's time. It breaks my heart especially the first few this year that got us going like DyepNi which stars Alwyn Uytingco and Jennica Gracia, Mr. Popular Meets Ms. Nobody starring Mark Neumann and Shaira Mae Dela Cruz, the one that's called Almost a Cinderella Story, and My Tag Boyfriend which stars real life lovers Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Sam Concepcion.

We even saw some of them during the TV5 Christmas Party for the press.
Good thing someone thought about our dilemma. Have you guys heard about the VIEWSTREAM App? It's not available yet on the App Store, but it is on Google Play.
