MIDNIGHT GIRLS: Excellent Depiction of Social Issues and Family Relationships

Sunday, April 19, 2026

Just by face value, this new film called "Midnight Girls" felt like a dream come true. Imagine putting together some of the country's best actresses who's work speaks largely on their previous projects like Jodi Sta. Maria, Jane Oineza, Sanya Lopez and Loisa Andalio - and then have blockbuster Director Irene Villamor do it at the the beautiful Nagoya, Japan.

For those who don't know, a lot of entertainers (mostly singers, performers and dancers) went to Japan for work since the 80's, 90's... and it still is happening today. The film gives a glimpse of not just working conditions, but the actual dynamics of family life, of how little appreciation they get from working there, and how their relationships happen in dire conditions because they still want to survive... and take care of the folks back home.

Here's the Mediacon which happened at Gateway Cinemas:

Jodi Sta. Maria is her old self, doing easy work on dramatic moments especially the scenes with Zaijan Jaranilla (where you'll probably cry). I like the character of Sanya Lopez because she's so extra as Trix. Loud but quirky, she absolutely loves to fall in love and wish for the prince charming she deserves. The person playing the Japanese partner of Sanya in the movie is super attractive, but in real life changed the whole conversation they made for the film. Since he's doing theater, he was alarmed that the script contained non conversational Japanese, so they had to do everything from scratch in just 3 days. The whole cast also needed to learn Japanese (hence the long production), but it was essential to understand how they got to talk with their patrons. Jane Oineza's character is interesting, and you'll need to figure out why she's doing a lot of the unnecessary stuff while she's figuring out who she is in the movie. Loisa on the other hand also did good as Bea, and the manner she treated her boyfriend (Miggy Jimenez) made me realize how corny people get at times when we fall in love. Her story was also intense, when people realize the need to work to put food on the table, but this doesn't equate to who you are as a person. A lot of this will be seen on the film when it comes out May 13 nationwide.

This is produced by TJAV Films (who's got a very young producer behind it) and is released in the Philippines by Warner Brothers. This will also be part of the Far East Festival in Italy, so your support is needed for that too. I'd gladly put this at 4/5, for it's excellence in discussing social issues. I'm sure you've got OFW's who've gone through the same and would easily connect with them individually.

"Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins" a Gorefest with Effective Actors

Sunday, December 21, 2025

I've been looking forward to see one of the biggest films this 2025, an offering from Regal Entertainment intended for the Metro Manila Film Festival called "Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins".

As you may know, this is the 17th installment of the movie franchise and is already a part of tradition to see one every Christmas. It must have been very challenging for producers to put this together since the matriarch Mother Lily passed in 2024, but Ms. Roselle and Atty. Keith obviously didn't get to put off fire off their family's passion. With an ensemble cast that includes SRR alumni and some of this generation's hottest love teams, the theaters will surely be filled to the brim with fans who would want to see a glimpse of their idols do 3 movies in one showing.

Here's what happened at the red carpet!

A short review:

The story is well put together. While there were a few flaws to convey time, you'll get to appreciate the way things are because all of the characters are very busy establishing their identity, and why they are there. This isn't much of a scare, but more of a gore fest. The suspense will also play when each one of them appear on screen because you'll never know who's going to live or die. That mystery alone would get you hooked and they've managed to healthily do that in this 3 in 1 movie. You can expect Janice de Belen and Manilyn Reynes to do good, along with prime actor Richard Gutierrez.

The love teams FranSeth and JMFyang did their A game in the gory part of the movie. Individually, they are remarkable, even if the pairings didn't exist you would see how they carried themselves well. The scare factor is a bit on the moderate side, but again, this is more of a gorefest rather than a horror flick, I enjoyed that part the most because I like brutal things which you'll see in a lot of situations in this movie. Is it apt for Christmas? Absolutely, because from our POV, an MMFF without a Shake Rattle and Roll movie is a lame one. People should have choices, and this horror entry is the only one of its kind this year. People consume content like this, and if you're a Filipino outside the country, you'll see how it has been made good compared to previous years because of advances in technology, Regal took advantage of that.

With great pieces (actors who have done their jobs well), a well stitched movie. They deserve 4/5 🐂🐂🐂🐂

PS. Watch out for the scenes of Sassa Gurl because that's part of the reason why you'll love SRR Evil Origins, she made her mark, made this chance to appear in the movie a good one. She proves that there are no small roles, small actors yeah?!

Loisa Andalio Endorses Ever Bilena

Tuesday, March 21, 2017

This is their 34th year and Ever Bilena is not stopping in beautifying Filipina women as they bring fresh, confident and beautiful Loisa Andalio as their newest endorser. This comes as welcome news to people who patronize the brand as teens and millenials deem this one of the most affordable but quality cosmetic products in the country.

"I used this since I was in high school and when I got the news that I was the brand ambassador, I was super happy. I was ecstatic even more too because now I don't have to buy make up (she kids). I am so excited to be free (with limits from my parents) and I'm more focused on my career and it is my priority. I'm delighted to be chosen among the celebrities who are also in my age. I'm a simple teenager that can be reached by my peers, I'm not perfect, I'm not too beautiful but I want to inspire and influence the youth to take these imperfections and be proud of it. I hope I get blessings I deserve, and for the people I love to be happy. I go to 4 things like the press powder, eyebrow pencil, blush and matte moby lipstick that are in pink nude shade. In formal occasions, I do brown black makeup, and do it in 30 minutes. It's easy and I don't have any secrets, it's just Youtube and Ever Bilena. I also wish people would get to watch me on April 29 at Lo18a: A Birthday Concert at the Music Museum as I'm very excited for that!" -Loisa Andalio

This is a treat partnership between Loisa and us because we feel her supporters even buy a lot because they tag the brand if they buy lipsticks, eye makeup, concealers, and she will be everywhere including the new Ever Bilena TV commercial called A Day In The Life. You should watch how Loisa shows how she transforms into the new, young and hip Loisa Andalio now that she is 18! - said the Ever Bilena Executives.
