The Gerald Anderson Foundation

Sunday, March 13, 2016

Fresh from his very successful movie "Always be my Maybe" with vixen Arci Muñoz, Gerald Anderson now takes the role of a philantrophist as he puts on his own new training school for super hero pets with "The Gerald Anderson Foundation". The fund will be used to train dogs specifically meant to be for search and rescue operations. This coincided with his birthday last week as his way of giving back to the community. He also seeked the help of his Dad and brother Ken who will mostly facilitate the trainings set in Clark Airbase in Pampanga.

They are currently training 4 dogs in the facility but the hope is to get this into the grassroots level. We all know calamities have struck the country and the aid of our k9 friends would definitely help in making search and rescue fast if we train dogs in the community. That would enable dog owners and lovers to be a step beyond just being a companion in the household. Now they can be of help when earthquakes, floods or any incident where search and rescue is of utmost importance.

His celebrity friends like Piolo Pascual, Rayver Cruz and Enchcong Dee also expressed their support for the project and had shown great interest to help the good looking former PBB housemate with his cause. Most of the proceeds of his foundation will go to the food and vitamins so they could have these superheroes in tip top shape. I asked Gerald about how he thinks he became very successful in the film and tv industry and he quipped it is all because of the countless people and fans who have helped him all these years. Here's a very short interview we did during the conference.

If you would like to help Gerald and his family get these dogs shelter and become the super heroes they are destined for, you can help by donating to his cause. Visit their official website www.geraldandersonfoundation.org or email info@geraldandersonfoundation.org or donations@geraldandersonfoundation.org if you need to ask questions about how to help in this cause that Gerald Anderson is heading. The Greenwich Very Cheesy Macaroni

Friday, December 18, 2015

Party emergency? I've had tons of that. If you ever had friends like mine who never tells you they're coming over your house in a moment's notice, everyday is a party emergency. I've got the best solution though, it's 55555. It's the number to call Greenwich Pizza. Aside from the pizzas, they've got really good pasta choices and this one is new, they call it "Very Cheesy Macaroni".

Talk about comfort food no?! It's your not so usual Macaroni and Cheese with real deal bacon bits on top and hot super cheesy sauce all over it. If the Christmas weather is biting you a bit, you can order a whole tray of this or a single order so you can wait for that piping hot pasta arrive in your doorstep. Just grab a bowl, take spoonfuls of it and curl up at the side of your bed or by the window and enjoy Christmas pass by. Aside from parties, it would be a great addition to your Noche Buena and Media Noche that doesn't involve you slaving away in your kitchen and instead just make you enjoy time with family and friends. You should also try the pizzas and fried chicken from the same store if you want the whole enchilada on your table, fresh, hot and fast.

Best of all, I loved how it's not too salty. It's made just right. You can call 55555 or go to www.greenwichdelivery.com today for more information.

Shakey's Conquers the Guinness World Records On Their 40th Year

Saturday, August 29, 2015

It felt impossible, but lookie here!

It looks like Shakey's has just conquered Guinness World Records as they become part of beating the record of eating a 12 inch pizza in the fastest amount of time! This record was held previously by a Canadian competitive eater named Peter Czerwinski or Furious Pete as they call him. With a simple  call by Shakey's, one of their loyal guests Kevin Medina stepped up the plate and said he'll accept the challenge with the help of The History Channel and Guinness World Records.

This means that Kevin Medina should consume a 12 inch cheese flavored thin crust pizza in less than the 41.31 seconds which was set by Furious Pete. I bet I can do that too but it looks like Kevin Medina is better at it because at the time he did this, he clocked so confidently we couldn't believe it!

After a few elimination rounds, he was able to do it in just 23.62 seconds. He has now officially made Shakey's and the Filipino people proud of this feat!

Congratulations Kevin! I can't wait to challenge you soon!

Facebook's Internet.org Partners with Smart's Talk 'N Text!

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Internet.org has been put up by Facebook with the goal of putting data be affordable with anyone, any place in the world. During a small event in Blue Leaf Pavilion in Fort Bonifacio, the country's biggest network Smart, through their most affordable network subsidiary Talk'N Text has announced their partnership with Internet.org with the goal of bringing not just affordable rates but free internet access to some of the most popular websites so there wouldn't be more reason not to get connected in the Philippines. This huge undertaking wouldn't be possible if it were not for the willingness of the executives and the people behind Talk'NText and Facebook.

Some of Talk'NText's brightest stars and endorsers were there to witness the occasion. Robin Padilla, Jericho Rosales and the stunning Marian Rivera are just some of them. As of this writing, only Robin and his brother was present.

Chairman of the Board and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan was there too. He's always present in big announcements like these. The tag line is #PanaloAngMayAlam (Those who know are winners!) which exactly reflects that those who have connections, the better informed ones win. A fitting statement that would best reflect their goal, of getting internet connection for 2/3 of the world population that doesn't have internet yet.

Napoleon Nazareno who heads PLDT and Smart says "This is the first internet.org partnership in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. We'll have 24 well chosen websites accesible for a whole year as we boost our "Internet for All" campaign and advocacy to make useful information accesible with Filipinos. We hope more content partners join this mission. There is still a lot of work to do but be assured of our continuing commitment."

This has been launched in Colombia, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, India and Zambia. Markku Makelainen, the Director of Global Partnerships from Facebook says "We are working with operators, content partners and governments all over the world to address the barriers. Now, we're bringing the Internet.org app to the Philippines and give you access to internet services, tools to help create new ideas and opportunities. The potential and brilliance of people is big. We want to focus on awareness and affordability. Poverty should not be an excuse, it should be a right to access the internet to get help in employment, or just living our daily lives."

These are just some of the sites but there's more! All 24 websites will be free on the Internet.org app on Google Play so just text the word INTERNET to 9999. Now, poverty shouldn't be a reason not to get information on the Internet. Searching for tips, education, health, finances and livelihood will be free for a whole year! They are now moving towards the task of getting more people to use the Internet, and with the success of the Free Internet campaign they did a few months ago, this just can go anywhere but up!

Mobile smartphone usage has gone to 30% last year and they expect a huge jump this year. The cost of smartphones will also go down, even TalkNText has packaged it with Android Mobile Phones so in the next few months you'll see even more people in the country using data and perhaps make people appreciate and take relevance to internet connectivity in their lives.

This is Basic Internet Access for all! There's no better news than that!

Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House

Sunday, September 07, 2014

Gerry's Grill has been a staple in Filipino and Asian food since 1997 and it has been able to give friends, family, some of the best dishes and beer pairings since then. Owner Gerry Apolinario felt it was time to diversify their portfolio and since he's been well traveled, he wished of a place that would be able to take authentic Thai flavors to the Philippines but not charge an arm and a leg. It's important for him to earn just like any business but if the Filipinos couldn't afford it then no one would be able to experience these dishes. This is the start of how they pictured this new joint at the new Fisher Mall in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. They called it "Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House".

The Ambiance

The place has got seating of a round 40-50 people and extended outside for around 30 more. The interiors consist of a couple of "spices in spoons" murals in walls and has ample amount of natural light coming from the back. The space got maximized since the floor area is a bit small, but it's got an Open Kitchen as a focal point. There are also two huge aquariums on the side for the fresh and live fish that they serve to diners. It does make a difference when you taste something freshly caught of course! There's also a loft to house the kitchen's extension because they need the space for prepping ingredients of a fabulous menu. Let's take a look at that next!

The Food

The available condiments
If it's Thai food that you're after, they have the condiments that go with it. In Thailand, small stores have these on bowls. Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House wants you to experience what it is like in Thailand so you've got pickled chilis, sambal chili, dried chili, and pickled ginger. I had the sambal chili on my plate and it was so good, I almost emptied the whole jar!

Kamias Shake
I've tasted one of these in Cebu, but I think Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House wants a small fusion too of Thai and Filipino so they made this available for drinks. Pretty good too and not too tangy.

Kaya Korean Restaurant: Easily Ordered thru City Delivery 87878

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Silly, rolling over the bed and so lazy to go out on a weekend. We covered like 4 events the day before that so I didn't really get some needed sleep. Hungry and needed some comfort food, I was dying to have my fix of Korean food. The problem is, my preferred restaurant is in posh Rockwell. I on the other hand am in Quezon City. If you take that into account, it'll take me an hour to get there and then another hour back. Two hours? I wouldn't be caught out in the sun that long let alone spend gas and more minutes to traffic. We did the next best thing... order food through City Delivery 87878.

I checked out their menu over at http://citydelivery.ph and dialed 87878. I got hold of someone after a few minutes. Talked to her and asked if they could deliver. I got a resounding YES! THEY ALWAYS DELIVER!

I told the kind lady what I wanted off the menu and asked change for the money I had on hand. After an hour, I had someone pressing the doorbell of my home. I didn't hear it because of the construction but he patiently waited.

And he still managed to put on a smile =)

I got my food still warm. Packed in separate microwaveable containers, I was giddy seeing what I'll have for dinner. I ordered my favorites and got my folks a few things too!

Kaya Korean Restaurant

Choosing Kaya Korean Restaurant was a no brainer. Reviews from other blogs and word of mouth had me trooping to their store in Rockwell a couple of times already. They serve them as authentic as can be. Their menu is so extensive I haven't repeated any dish yet. Though I do have my favorites!

Here they are!

Kaya Salad - portions of greens, seaweed, slices of apples, tomatoes, cucumbers smothered with roasted sesame seed based dressing and paired with slices of smoky meat marinated in special spices. I'm telling you it's amazing! My folks raved about it too because unlike the usual caesar, this one packs Asian flavors so perfectly paired with the cold leaves; ooh I had to have some more! Unfortunately I only had some because my Dad ate most of it. I'm not surprised though! =)

The top one was the sauce for the Kaya Salad and the two other ones in the bottom was for something good! You gotta see this!

Bibimbap - Produce from the harvest during spring is this celebration of the Korean season. Mostly prepared with spices, meat and roasted chili sauce. It brings a whole other dimension to what their dishes are all about. I love Bibimbap and it fills me up like clockwork! I'm even thinking of it right now LOL!

Alamang Bibimbap - Almost the same great ingredients but this time with shrimp, slices of squid tossed and heated a few minutes in chili sauce, this awesome Alamang Bibimbap just makes the usual extra special by combing it with the best seafood ingredients locally available. Ahh it's just lovely, warm comfort food that you can have all in the walls of your home. Thank god for city delivery!

Dooboo Chigae - Warm, steamy and spicy soup laden with bean curd and fresh vegetables  this is something epic for those who want it HOT! I got what I wanted and more because this didn't just stay on the bowl. I even had it paired with hot rice which I cooked at home. Amazing I tell you!

Drinks - Unlike the others, they actually have a selection of drinks available. They got some uncommon ones like this Arizona Diet Green Tea with Ginseng. I immediately had it with my Bibimbap and it does make sense to pair it up! They also have something common such as colas so if you are picky, they probably have something you'll like on their menu!

I love the things they offer and with City Delivery I can easily order from 10AM to 10PM or maybe just visit Kaya Korean Restaurant directly Sun-Thu 11:00AM-8:30PM | Fri-Sat 11:00AM-8:30AM. Whichever works! I hope you guys get to order with them too. It should be easy like dialing 87878! Capisce?!
