TV5 Partners With Cignal Entertainment for New Shows in the Kapatid Network

Monday, August 10, 2020

The landscape of broadcasting has changed and TV5 is ramping up their shows and reviving their entertainment arm earmarked with this new partnership with Cignal Entertainment.

They did close down their home grown entertainment shows and talent pool a few years back and just concentrated on Sports and News programs as a business decision. However, they saw how there is a need for new and fresh content for Filipinos and that would need to come from somewhere. Broadcasting is having a major transformation and people are looking for options especially in free to air and pay tv. Number one pay tv provider Cignal TV knows this and the move to partner with TV5 is in some way came naturally, as Robert Galang the head honcho for TV5 says "We are now positioned better, as we enter a new phase to expand programming and promote new content in our assets. There will be in house production for TV5 but for news and sports. Most of our entertainment content now will be independently produced. TV5 and Cignal TV will be having the same head, having a common vision leading both companies to seamlessly work together. Separate orgs, but will have more collaboration using both our strengths."

Producer and Director Perci Intalan adds "TV5 has been a breath of fresh air in the industry. This is where a lot of programs have been born and now in the crucial time of TV history, they decided to invest in entertainment again. Now we are balancing entertainment content that the advertisers are looking for, starting APT entertainment who has 2 shows (Bawal Na Game Show and Fill in the Bank) , doing things they are really good at. Talentadong Pinoy is also back, with Ryan Agoncillo called “Bangon Talentadong Pinoy”, Usapang Real Life with Ms. Luchi Cruz Valdez, Chika BESH with Pokwang, Pauleen Luna Sotto and Ria Atayde, Fit For Life with Jessy Mendiola, In Action with Raffy Tulfo. We are planning a lot in 2021 and even 2022 as suddenly, things are possible.

These are the new shows!

New shows on TV5 coming very soon!

Bawal na Game Show with Paolo Ballesteros and Wally Bayola
Bangon Talentadong Pinoy with Ryan Agoncillo
Usapang Real Life with Ms. Luchi Cruz Valdez
Fit for Life with Jessy Mendiola
Pokwang, Pauleen Luna Sotto and Ria Atayde for Chika na BESH
Idol in Action with Raffy Tulfo
Fill In The Bank with Pokwang and Jose Manalo

About Branding One Sports, OnePH, OneTV

Ms. Triccie Tolentino the Vice President/Head of Marketing for Media5 says “TV5 is already a good brand and what will change is just programming. It’s just going to be bigger and better. All our shows will be in digital, our platforms will also bear that including Cignal TV and we will cross promote through these channels.”

On Maine Mendoza

Ms. Sienna Olaso the First Vice President and Head of Channels & Content for CignalTV says "A few months back we launched Buko channel, in there we have programs with Maine, hopefully Perci can also add more of that content into TV5. We continue to plan and do creative content in our channels. The pandemic is just pushing off some, a little of the shoots."

So stay tuned for that, you might see Maine and other Buko channel programs in TV5.

On Kris Aquino Being Part of TV5

Direk Perci days “Kris is very much welcome in TV5 but there are a few things they need to fix from their side and that production is external. It is their turf, but one thing for sure is that we are excited for her and we will wait for her."

About Ms. Sharon Cuneta and ABSCBN

Sir Robert Galang says "TV5 is open to everybody including talents of ABSCBN. We are working with independent producers working with us, in co productions or block timers, we can work with everybody."

We got the impression that they are even open to the idea of getting block timers which may be good news if ABSCBN would see that as an opportunity.

Direk Perci adds "Ms. Sharon Cuneta is also welcome if someone produces her show on TV5, issues in the past don’t matter. We don’t and never close doors."

On IdeaFirst Content

Direk Perci says “I am not pushing for anything from IdeaFirst as I am wearing two hats. I only approve shows as accorded to me by content and TV5 programming. Also, Gameboys is already good in Youtube, I don’t know yet for TV, but anything can happen.”

I hope they do consider this including Pearl Next Door because it's high time people see it on free to air and digital TV.

For those who want to pitch content in TV5, they are looking for quality, fresh content, gameshows, narratives, if it passes their taste, it can be presented in the channel. He says "We are talking to producers mostly, if they have stars from any channel it is their choice. We don’t talk to individual artists so it would be from them. There will be opportunities, to intentionally have our own stars. Someone can pitch, talent shows included, remember we discovered Morisette in a show before. A lot of stars have just not gotten big breaks, we will let it come naturally if it can happen with TV5. There are more ways to break the tradition of programming, the genre may always be the same but how you do it is the difference. We will be pushing the envelope."

Direk also added “We are targetting August 15, for the formal launch of this partnership. We are also in talks with other production companies but they are still in development. Big comeback? Of course it can’t be done in one day but our first shows will be launched in August 15. We are mindful people don’t want everything in one day, but rest assured there will be more shows on TV5."

Fill in the BANK and Bawal na Game Show will start on August 15, 6PM to 8PM

So for now, they've confirmed Fill in the Bank, Bawal na Gameshow and Chika Na BESH which is produced by APT Entertainment. We can't wait to see these new shows and a brand new TV5 lineup in the coming months.

Are you excited? :) I am!

10 Reasons To Watch BORN BEAUTIFUL

Monday, January 21, 2019

Okay, I think it’s about time you get ready for this wonderful film by Direk Jun Lana and Perci Intalan which had us all at the edge of our seats with the tons of trailers they came out with. I was hoping to see this last MMFF but as Direk Perci told me, they will have their time. I was one of the few people invited to see the film’s UNCUT version last week, so here’s 10 reasons why you should watch BORN BEAUTIFUL.

1. This is a SEQUEL. The highly successful DIE BEAUTIFUL needs to be continued and this did not disappoint.

2. Martin Del Rosario as Barbs is eye candy. He fits the role like a glove, because if it’s not him it wouldn’t be believable why Barbs always wins in beaucons. There I said it.

3. Lou Veloso is a very good actor then, he’s greater now. You will love his quirks, how motherly and forgiving he has been not just for Barbs, but for every gay person she’s welcomed to her home and business. You will love her even more in confrontations, she’ll blurt out expletives like breakfast, tons of it.

4. Paolo Ballesteros is also here. His character Trisha is no small role, in fact he feels like a highlight in this film even if it was a few cameos. He comes armed with the makeup transformations he’s known for. This time though, it will be iconic, it will be controversial, it will stir emotions of the conservative, religious, but he explained well why he did it (as part of the conversation).

5. Kiko Matos is ANIMALISTIC. He’s the rough and tough guy you always fantasized about. He did it and Barbs liked it. Maybe because there’s just too much tongue all round lol. Even if it was traumatic in the beginning and all the friends warned her about him, she chose to be with him still. Until when? That remains to be seen when you watch this film.

6. Akihiro Blanco is the ROMANTIC type. I must say, I didn’t expect him to do the things he did in this film because he’s always been the goody two shoes, the guy who wouldn’t dare do it with a guy, but he gave himself for the craft and I think I heard several shrieks in the front row (from his fans) who actually felt it was a romantic scene every time he appeared with Barbs on screen. That is a good measure of his capability as an actor, I personally also am rooting for Barbs and him to be paired in the movie given the circumstances (which you will see in the movie). This actually happens in real life and this was a tough way to bring it out in the open.

7. Jun Lana and Perci Intalan are geniuses. As Direk Jun puts it he says “We do not make films to be SAFE. If you make a film, you must step on something. If that’s what you want then let’s not make films anymore.” That for me is a tough and bold statement, I can’t wait to see what they have in the series through Cignal.

8. VJ Mendoza (albeit shortlived) have delivered strongly as Princess. The comedic punches in this movie was an opportunity to show how crafty people are and have that sense of TIMING. He did good, also the whole cast so prepare yourself laughing continuously on some instances.

9. This movie will educate you about OPEN relationships, how to LOVE as much as you can. It also discusses about false religious groups, abuses, mature stuff not normally discussed in classrooms. I hope this would be allowed to be viewed R-16 as they are appealing I think. The uncut version wasn’t as harsh or overly matured as I thought it would be. MTRCB should reconsider.

10. It is worth every penny you will spend for a movie ticket, I even can say they have given even MORE in this sequel. I would highly suggest you bring yourself, your straight friends, your LGBTQ+ people because this would be something people could LEARN from aside from getting the entertainment value it brings.

Born Beautiful is also being planned to be shown as a series in CIGNAL very soon. Before that, you should take the time to watch it this January 23, 2019. This again is written by Direk Jun Lana, done by Screenwriter Rody Vera, Elmer Gatchalian, Ivan Andrew Payawal and Fatrick Tabada. This is produced by CIGNAL Entertainment, Octobertrain Films and The IdeaFirst Company. Some scenes will be bleeped on the regular screening, but you will still have the story told.

Congratulations to the men, women, LGBTQ+ people who made this what it is. 9/10 for me.

My 2 Mommies This Mothers Day

Saturday, May 05, 2018

I am one of the 4 Million who watched the endearing trailer of My 2 Mommies, Regal Films' offering this Mothers Day. The film outfit has always been dishing out really good films during this season and this one is a little different. The signs of the times dictate a family that doesn't just comprise of the usual Mom, Dad and son/daughter. This time, Paolo Ballesteros plays the role of Manu, a gay man who had his best friend (played by Solenn) drunk one night and didn't know he had a son with her years after. Out and proud, had a relationship, but how would everything turn out now that he's a Mother - yeah he consider himself one.

Paulo started our blogcon by greeting everyone and said “Thank you sa pagpunta ninyo, hope you help us promote My 2 Mommies!"

Eric says “This is a romantic comedy, but it stems from the story of Paulo’s sudden situation of having a kid. There are only a few people who can do Drama and Comedy, Paulo is one of them. Maricel is really missed so they will see the old Maria in this film, it’s welcoming, you’ll feel she’s back. I thought Solenn was a different person, I have never seen her act and in this project, she’s really different, very professional, she has timing and she’s not a diva... so down to earth. This boy oj the other hand is special, they had french lines and when they started I knew he was really good and this might be his first movie, but he’s really good. He was born to be an actor. I am glad to get a PG rating, I can’t wait for the people to see this movie.”

Paolo says “Eric is good, he is an artist so he knows the scenes and how the public will be moved in one scene. He moves fast, he justifies additional scenes and we finish fast. Solenn is very professional; she ain’t a diva, you could see how she wants to perfect her tagalog. She also makes an effort to do the punchlines and she is very natural, very tita. Mothers day needs stories like these and I hope even if I’m not in drag people and families would appreciate this. It’s very light, but it has heart. Manu doesn’t just relate to my situation, he’s almost like me - I am so scared about how real it has become. Mothers have always been about talking a lot, but you know it is for your own good, every time with them is precious. I may have wanted to also have more moments with my daughter but I feel her mother also needs that as well, we do what we can do and make the time we spend a better one. To have a family? Maybe we’ll just cross the bridge when we get there. We might not have done a workshop with Marcus but when we shot on the first day, he was loved like a real son. It wasn’t hard at all.”

Marcus says “Paolo is very chill, even when he’s mad he still makes it a point to be so nice to people. I had fun doing this, I’m a kid that is mature, but only have 2 Moms and 2 Dads and I think that is happy.”

This would certainly be a good thing to watch with your family, although a bit controversial and out of the original context of a regular family, it only means that it doesn't take a genius to know that you only need to be a good person to be a good parent. Love for a son, it's insurmountable.

Make sure you watch the film on Mothers day, mother lily says so!

TRIP UBUSAN Lolas vs Zombies

Wednesday, November 22, 2017

I haven't really watched it yet but I've seen them all a few days ago during a blogcon in Quezon City. Clad in full make up, funky shoes and colorful dresses, the three Lolas Nidora, Tidora and Tinidora will be headlining a full movie showing tomorrow in theaters nationwide. Now this just puts the whole KALYESERYE story in a different level. Honestly I'd be really afraid to gamble in a movie that doesn't include popular loveteam ALDUB but as I've learned, there will be tons of side stories in this film that will only make sense if you connect the two love birds in the mix. A daughter? Who knows but judging from the name of the character itself, the kid possibly maybe Alden and Yaya Dub's very own, but to find that out you have to watch the movie. Aside from Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Paolo Ballesteros, you will see other stars like Angelika Dela Cruz, Ryzza Mar Dizon, Arthur Solinap, Rochelle Pangilinan, Lovely Abella, Taki Saito, Kenneth Medrano, Archie Adamos , Jayvhot Galang, Caprice Cayetano, Al Tantay, Joshua Zamora, Niño Mulach, and my love Shaira Mae Dela Cruz who I'm shipping with Miggy Tolentino in this film.

Miggy and Shaira by the way have already established a following in TROPS which is another show they are doing under TAPE Incorporated. Hopefully these guys would get even more attention now from the fans who also like them like I do. I had the chance to interview them separately so enjoy this one!

Remember that this shows on November 22, 2017 and if you've got nothing to do on this date go find your friends and family and invite them to watch this film that talks about family, horror, comedy and how these Lolas survive it all. Will they be able to protect their apo Charmaine (played by Caprice Cayetano)?

Watch them battle with zombies on theaters because this will surely be fun!

Paolo Ballesteros and Jun Lana for Die Beautiful

Friday, December 23, 2016

Die Beautiful is this year's most awaited film in the Metro Manila Film Festival. It was pitched in Hong Kong and was invited to join the Tokyo Film Festival. They pushed their luck and eventually won awards and accolades, but what was even better was the reaction of the viewers who were found crying, laughing, having fun while watching the movie. This was Director Jun Lana's vision when they made the film, and they felt surreal when it eventually won these awards.

During the blog conference a few days ago, Direk Jun Lana told us "The story came first, it was our anniversary in New York (he is Married to Executive Producer Perci Intalan) and we had to do something to dedicate for Jennifer Laude, a transgender woman who was murdered in Olongapo by a US Army Soldier. I didn't want it to be depressing, so in telling the story we needed to find people to vouch him, and love him (Paolo's character).

We asked Paolo to auditon when we had the material ready. I didn't want to lead him on but during reading, we knew it was distinctly for him. We knew he was going to be the star! We had to make sure we use time efficiently and take scenes while he was doing makeup for a character since that takes 3 hours. We had to make sure we do justice for his makeup transformations, this is a different level. He doesn't even look at photos, he just does it on set so it was genius. Yes, I was worried about the acceptance in Tokyo because this was made for the Filipino market. In Kerala, there were people on the floor during the screening, it was that popular. I want that to happen here in the Philippines. I want this to do good in the box office.

We are already blessed with awards and we couldn't be happier! We're doing our rounds now, going to provinces, going to public markets, schools, different places. Dying beautiful is maintaining dignity up to the last moment. Pao's vulnerability is there but he shares it, he doesn't want to shortcut at all and that's great for an actor, he was very easy and fun to work with. I'm not trying to educate anyone, but I'm trying to just have fun and love the story. Hopefully after telling the story it would humanize the issues but not politicize it. The very heart of it is Paolo's performance and it's his character, the audience were very noisy in Tokyo and they were touched."

Paolo adds "Maybe in the looks, we talked about it. I had to bring my diva light so we could get the full effect for the movie. I had to do about 9 makeup transformations. It was hard because I had to do makeup and do the acting, it was hard and it took time. It's not for everyday, I had to make sure the other lights are right before we roll the camera.

This is my first title role and it was fit specifically for me, I wanted to do a different Paolo that you see almost everyday in Eat Bulaga. I didn't really do it for the awards, and when I saw it, it was worth it. Every dramatic scene, I needed to do about 3 versions, and I never found this tiring. I've been in showbiz for 16 years and I say GO! I'm very confident this is going to do good, I hope we help the Filipino independent producers. In the story, there are connections to the transformations. It's one of the reasons why you should see it. I get inspired when I watch these celebrities so their thing on TV and when my stash of wigs match that person, I'd try to draw them on my face and see if they match. Then I get surprised the person I wanted to do appears in the mirror. It's more challenging if they don't have strong features because it's in the details.

I was frightened to actually be in a casket, but due to our experience in Eat Bulaga, we got to experience that as a joke first. When the camera's rolling, I was more nervous and moved a lot so I was very conscious to not breathe and move my eyes. I challenge myself and being an artist, it feels good to be appreciated. I had all the time in the world during that shoot as it was the time I had off with Eat Bulaga."

Now if you're still thinking of what to watch this Christmas for the Metro Manila Film Festival, make sure it's DIE BEAUTIFUL just to see why it got the nod of the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Kerala Film Festival (who didn't have a best actor category but made one from the judges as he was really that good!). They promise you will enjoy watching this film so if I were you, I'd have this on my list!

Watch it because Lady Gagi said so!

Dennis Trillo's Greatest Form In New Movie

Saturday, November 05, 2016

You love him, I know. With good reason too. Dennis Trillo is not just a great actor, he's one heck of a person. He's starring in this pseudo romantic comedy film called "Bakit Lahat Ng Gwapo Mag Boyfriend?"(Why Do Goodlooking Men Have Boyfriends?) and we got to watch it through a private screening with our friends from Team Dennis Trillo.

The movie talks about a guy who they thought was gay, where two friends tried to find out in different ways if he really was. Anne Curtis tells the narrative much like Sarah Jessica Parker would do it, sans the New York scene. Some may say she's not, but I think she's funny enough. Her connection to Dennis started when her gay business partner had to arrange a meeting with him, not knowing if it was for a second chance at love or just a coming out story waiting to happen. Gay guy played by Paolo Ballesteros unfortunately didn't get what he wanted and end up doing favors for him more. You have to watch the movie to find out why.

The thing my friends and I noticed on this film though is not just the funny scenes, or the story, but probably the finest form of Dennis Trillo ever caught on screen bar none. He worked out and prepared for this role as one of the scenes in the early part of the movie needs it. You must watch it for that alone.

"Bakit Lahat Ng Gwapo Mag Boyfriend?"(Why Do Goodlooking Men Have Boyfriends?) is still showing on theaters nationwide. The film is Directed by Jun Lana, same guy who did award winning Die Beautiful. Here's a short interview I did with Dennis before the private screening, please enjoy!

Regine Velasquez Alcasid Shares Love for EB and Aldub

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

I was with a few entertainment press and bloggers earlier for the press conference of Ms. Regine Velasquez Alcasid as she continues to promote "Regine... at the Theater" which will happen in Solaire this November 6, 7, 20, 21 at 8PM. Her special guests include Aicelle Santos, Jonalyn Viray and Audie Gemora. Although when we asked, she said that Aicelle and Jonalyn will perform in separate dates whilst Audie will be singing on all of them and will constitute different songs in this concert not entirely concentrating with Theater songs. Although there will be songs paying homage to local and international theater acts, she'll still be singing a few expected songs that her fans will surely enjoy.

Regine Velasquez at the Theater by kumagcow

Part of the questions thrown at her by the press was about her Mom's fascination about Aldub and how she's totally okay with Paolo Ballesteros impersonating her.She says what Paolo is doing isn't something new as there have been several acts and people who have done it before, and she takes what he's doing very flattering and not something to frown about.

Aside from that, she's very thankful about what Aldub has done for her Mother because the phenomenon has really kept her Mom happy. As you know it's not difficult to lose Mang Gerry (Regine's Dad) and Regine's mom gets very entertained by the pair whenever she sees them on TV or when Regine and her siblings got their Mom tickets to the Aldub Tamang Panahon event in Philippine Arena last weekend. Pay close attention to her statements on the video (almost last part) and see how thankful she also is to Ms. Malou who got her tickets to the show in spite of a sold out crowd.

By the way, for those who are also excited about Regine... at the Theater concert this November, they won't be selling tickets on the venue and will exclusively be doing it through www.smtickets.com and its outlets inside SM. It won't be available anywhere else so if you haven't bought tickets yet, now is the time to panic! LOL! Ms. Regine Velasquez Alcasid promises a couple of surprises that you'll love once you watch the show. Now that's super great!
