UNIQLO Works with Aussie Print Designer Cassie Byrnes

Wednesday, June 02, 2021

Oz Oz Oz! Oi Oi Oi! This is one way they say it in Australia but this time, they're taking it to clothing as fashion brand UNIQLO will launch a new collection as they work with Aussie print genius Cassie Byrnes. Known for her bold prints and superb colorful work inspired by Australia's flora and fauna.

All of these are prints that have been made especially designed for Uniqlo and they've really made good decisions to put it all on shirts and shorts. It's her first time to work with the global brand and she says "These designs are very personal to me and it has been something that I've represented with different times in my life. I've been in the design practice for over 6 years and was inspired by the prehistoric landscape of Australia, particularly the age of Gondwana which happened millions of years ago." This collection includes Sugarbush, Mesozoic Garden, Souvenir print, Lotte print, and the same ones in girls dresses. Sickening no?

I could see how this would work with Moms and daughters who would love to either pair up, or mix and match with Byrnes work. It's vivid, bold and definitely something attractive to wear on a summer day! Catch these items in all Uniqlo stores starting June 7, 2021.

Work, Create, Anytime, Anywhere on ASUS Expert and ProArt StudioBook Series & other models on Shopee

Tuesday, June 09, 2020

A few days ago, we were fortunate to have been able to participate technical seminar for ASUS as they begin preparations in launching the ASUS Expert and ProArt StudioBook Series. I’ve never salivated looking at some of the most powerful and portable laptop computers, but theirs are a nice bunch. The Expert Series are business laptops built to be the thinnest and lightest in the world. They’ve gone through rigorous tests internally but decided to take on US Military grade standards so you could take it on the road with peace of mind. Not to mention 24 hours battery life, upto 2TB SSD drives I’d envy storage freaks who would have this for office work. Just like you, there are tons of people who need that and they addressed it complete with biometric authentication, a physical webcam shield (you can switch), nano kengsington lock and a fingerprint sensor. It also doesn’t just look sleek, it sounds great carrying the Harman Kardon speakers and quad microphones, your conferences would be a cinch. Still had the Ergolift hinge ASUS laptops are known for, so it’s easy and not irritating on your hands when typing. They also have Link to MyASUS so you can work and use your phone on screen, transfer files, all easy. The B9450 is a beast of a machine.

For creators, graphic artists, designers, animators and programmers, they’ve created the dream hardware you need. They specifically made the ProArt StudioBook One W590 just for you and that entails tons of graphics processing power using an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000, Intel Core i9 9980HK for all your intense computing tasks and 64GB memory to make the impossible possible. It also had 100% Adobe RGB color gamut to make sure it’s as real looking on screen and elsewhere. It’s got 4K UHD display despite its compact size, you are served the best complete with the usual and three Thunderbolt ports, titanium alloy cooling, you won’t need to be always in air conditioned rooms at all.

They also have a ProArt StudioBook Pro X that boasts a 4 sided NanoEdge display, 92% screen to body ratio, using an Intel 10th Gen XEON processor, NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 graphics, 64-128GB High Speed RAM, certified to run the best software imaginable. This series also includes the ProArt StudioBook 17 and 15, made for designers and creators, you’ve got a lot to choose from.

Meanwhile, there are several models already available on Shopee which matches school, office or even gaming requirements you have. You might want to look at the ASUS official store there.

Billie Eilish and Takashi Murakami for Uniqlo UT

Saturday, May 30, 2020

I love Billie Eilish. Let's get that out in the open. She's weird, she's different, and yes she's cool. Now among the brands that opened up shop after ECQ is UNIQLO, clothing is essential and I think it is apt for them to do so. Apart from servicing tons of people, they're coming out with a whole new collection specifically Billie Eilish and well known designer and artist Takashi Murakami.

For those who don't know, Takashi Murakami does artwork, paintings, sculptures, which usually imply influence of post wat Japanese culture. He also manages different artists and organizes huge art fairs in Tokyo and other Japanese prefectures.

The shirts of course look like Bille Eilish's staple clothes, a bit oversized, huge prints and in funky colors. If you wanna channel Billie as an artist, this would be the right way to go.

I've seen it on the shelves in the mall but I didn't get photos of it. I was busy with the groceries but I'll go back a few days from now and get some for me. I like these a lot and wish I had a thinner profile. It would look better, but as long as you can carry it you'll be fine!

Go cop a few in UNIQLO stores, they're open already!

Leilani Kate Yalung Debuts with 18 Piece Collection

Saturday, November 16, 2019

What were you doing when you were 18?

I for most must have been just looking for trouble, but I haven't reflected on that quite enough til I saw this today. Leilani Kate Yalung is a budding young designer. She's a gorgeous young lady educated in Style Studio, SoFA, SLIMS and currently finishing her course in ICEFDS. After doing several fashion shows and private clients, she's raring to release her very own 18 piece collection inspired by Filipino culture on her debut fashion show held at Buddha Bar Manila, Picar Place in Makati.

Her mom warmly welcomed guests and the press.

In attendance was Kate's family and friends, several distinguished politicians, artists, influencers and TV people. This is sort of a prelude to what she desires to be the collection she'll be releasing in 2020. We took the trip down south to witness how she wants to celebrate her birthday, this is special and she did pull out her guns.

I like her use of sheer fabric, organza, and the likeness of it with native blouses we also see in Filipiniana wear. Probably to simulate the "baro" part.

She also did a couple of them in blush pink/old rose. It looks very feminine, especially the ones that have folds, ruffled, and tapered.

My personal favorite was this red number. You're gonna be absolutely fun in parties wearing this!

Some of her dresses have intricate beadwork and sewn in flowers, crystals. That must have taken a lot of time to finish.

Then for the finale, she came out with a textured and beaded gown that's got a trail for days!

Congratulations and happy birthday Leilani Kate Yalung! You're a very promising designer, very passionate. I hope you do get to showcase more of your work in the coming years. Take it one step at a time, I won't be surprised if you get what you want earlier. I've seen your structured pieces in shows before and the workmanship is evident.

See you on the runway!

Sidney Perez Sio for Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2018

Monday, May 28, 2018

This isn't the first time that I've covered a Sidney Perez Sio show. With the past collections inspired by New York street life, hip hop, crossed with the famous Barong Tagalog and Maria Clara twisted into his work, he was ruffling feathers already in the Philippines since 2005. Athleisure wasn't a term yet but he probably has done it so many times, he would yawn with what people are coming out with now. He was part of the ASEAN Young Fashion Designers Contest, shows in Manhattan, New York. He also worked with prime designer Inno Sotto and other shows in the PHFW trail.

He's here to impress and yes, we were. I took it upon myself to also shoot the back part of the models so you can take a look at the details of the whole dress/shirt, so please enjoy!

Philippine Reps Named for AirAsia Runway Designer Search 2017

Friday, April 07, 2017

Having been a lover of runway shows and fashion photography, I was ecstatic to actually see who will represent the Philippines at the AirAsia Runway Designer Search 2017. This is the Manila leg and they're holding several searches around Asia to get the representatives from each country to participate in the culmination night in Malaysia where the AirAsia headquarters is located.

Their collection will be seen on KL Fashion Week together with other participating ASEAN countries who will also be sending their best in the region. There were about more than 50 aspiring designers who presented during the preliminaries then were also cut down to 12 in the afternoon. The judges really had a hard time choosing two because admittedly, there were a lot of talented designers in the Philippines. Judges include Andrew Tan, the founder of KL Fashion Week RTW, Hannah Serrano of Air Asia, Veen Dee Tan of Fashion Valet, Suki Salvador of Mega and Anthony Ramirez, one of the Philippines' best designers.

They too will be mentored by Suki Salvador and prepare a Capsule Collection which will be sold in Fashion Valet (if they win the grand prize). Aside from that, they can get the chance to win 150,000 AirAsia BIG Points (which they can use to travel in any AirAsia destination) plus Php 280,000 funding for the collection. They will also be featured on a 6 page fashion spread on AirAsia's Travel3Sixty which is their inflight magazine.

In the end, they announced Jerome Tayao and Maria Esme Palaganas as the Top 2 winners. They will be heading to Kuala Lumpur this August to compete with the region's best, and hopefully make the country proud. Here's my short interview with them after the announcement.

Congratulations and I hope to see your collection on the runway!

EPSON x John Herrera: The AGILA Collection

Monday, February 06, 2017

I have seen his work a few years ago and it's been a while since I have seem him do a show in Manila. John Herrera has taken the world by storm by winning London Emerging Designer Awards back in 2015. He's known for his very detailed workmanship, drama, couture and travel inspired collections in the past and the award has paved the way and gave a lot of opportunities for the Filipino designer.

He's gone to the limits, even the fine line of proper designed garments and textures which he finds interesting so he goes the mile to include it in his pieces. This time however, he worked with world renowned printer brand EPSON to create his new collection called AGILA (The Philippine Eagle), a mix of art and technology, a feat which he found very challenging. He's up for it though (judging from his reaction during the short interview in Shangri-la Plaza) and even though this process would mean printing his own fabrics, he trusted the people who made his vision into reality (graphic design and Photoshop included), and of course the lovely EPSON Sure Color F-series (which are dye sublimation digital textile printers) namely the Sure Color SC F9270 and the SC 6270.

Sure Color SC F9270 (top) and the SC 6270 (bottom)

These printers are designed for industrial level roll production. So imagine how you would be able to print your designs in fabric, the possibilities are endless! For designers, fashion enthusiasts and those who would like to have their original work make into an excellent outfit that your clients would be proud of to wear. This definitely will make prints that could get your images in the forefront of fashion, isn't that what people want in the first place?

I particularly like the hoodie coat that Mark McMahon wore during the press preview. It's edgy, the print was intricately detailed and quite uncommon. It's very neo-Japanese but still got that persona of the Philippine Monkey Eating Eagle done in feathers, actual bird images and colors in white shiny fabric. I also like the light quilting on some of the pieces (the jackets, the kimonos, don't get me started!), the bias cut skirts which he had later on in the show, the flowy printed scarf dress,  Oh and if you're already impressed with the output, this is actually the first time he's done this. That right there is pushing the envelope and the 30 piece collection done that night was equally stunning!

Here's photos from his IG account, credits to their house photographer:

I think the AGILA collection will also be shown in London a couple of weeks from now. Who would have known that a printer could do this right? I'm very impressed, just wished I brought my camera on the runway show though, perhaps next time! Thank you for the opportunity to cover your event EPSON Philippines! This is really unbelievable!
