AHON MAHIRAP Celebrates Independence Day with "KA PARES SA PAG AHON" Activity in Quezon City

Thursday, June 13, 2024

The Philippines just celebrated its 126th Independence Day yesterday, June 12th. How did you celebrate it? Stayed at home? Well, here's something you could do next time.

The folks from AHON MAHIRAP just set an example at the Quezon City Memorial Cirle grounds yesterday. They are an advocacy group aimed to promote works that hone equality, give opportunities in order to alleviate poverty. They do this with compassion, to help ease the challenges of achieving a life that is dignified, and fulfilled.

Instead of the run of the mill soup kitchen, they opted to do an activity called "KA PARES SA PAG AHON", where they serve Filipino favorite "Beef Pares" to ordinary joes, seniors, workers, kids and those who need nourishment at the park. In the event, AHON MAHIRAP President Kristine Aplal and Co-Founder Wilbert Tolentino, and several volunteers personally served these good bowls made with love as part of the Independence Day celebrations in the park.

Here's a rundown on what happened that afternoon:

They have been doing these and other activities even before the pandemic. They later formed the organization in order to help even more people, saying having it formalized made sense. True enough, they were able to organize and have leaders in Metro Manila and in the provinces so they too could implement their projects too.

Ms. Kristine was adamant that this will be just the start and hope to bring the "KA PARES SA PAG AHON" Project in other locations. Wilbert also wanted to serve even more kids and places where they see the need fit. If you know a place, they also are eager to hear about it on their social channels, make sure you head on to AHON MAHIRAP social channels and message them if you also would like to help. Else, you can check out their official website AhonMahirap.com for more details on how you can also help their cause.

Google Pays Homage to Philippines Today!

Saturday, June 12, 2021

If you haven't been paying attention, Google showed some changes today on its home page as the Philippines celebrate its 123rd independence day by doing a doodle.

The Philippine flag stands so proud with its red, white, blue colors as well as the three stars and the sun which signifies the 8 provinces that fought for independence back in the day. That's so sweet of them to do no? Now go and find it on Google.com and see how it waves on the main page!

But lemme ask you, are we really free?

I thought so.

Ronnie Liang in Guam for Independence Day Celebrations

Saturday, June 29, 2019

The last time I saw Ronnie Liang, he was working his way up to the skies literally - as he takes the strides of getting his flight hours while serving to be the face of Aviation Marketing Solutions a couple months back.

Recently, Ronnie Liang attended the 121st independence day celebrations in Guam, USA. He graced the event via the Filipino Community of Guam, an organization made to keep filipino culture i live in the island territory in Micronesia (west pacific). This was held June 22, 2019.

Ronnie laments “I’m so happy to have been able to meet the Filipino community in Guam. They were very warm, welcoming and gentle people. They we're extremely happy that I was there. I felt their pride seeing me perform. They have been very updated about my career and were asking me about my pilot course, my new songs, plus my upcoming collaboration with Ms. Sarah Geronimo. I am so honored I was able to also talk with Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin and Philippine Consul General Marciano De Borja while I was there."

Ronnie added "Guam and the Philippines have a shared historical and cultural connections, and upto this day our bonds of friendship, cultural ties remain strong."

To add, his latest track “Ligaya” topped Barangay LS (GMA Network’s FM station's) most requested songs. He earned praises as he put his own spin in the eheads classic. Currently, he has two songs in his album “12" which are doing good. “Ligaya” is enjoying lots of views on YouTube and other latest song “ Yakap” is at number 9 in the charts.

Ronnie Liang is also excited about his upcoming concert in November. He's going to be doing it with a big star in the music industry as part of his 12th year in the industry. He attributes his success with his fans, friends, Viva and Boss Vic Del Rosario who has sternly believed in him all these years.

He has an upcoming movie under Viva Films where he plays a supporting role (title still under the wraps). His last film Maria is now available on Netflix for the world to see. He also has an ongoing series called "Ghost Adventures" airing via Sari-Sari Channel on Cignal TV and an upcoming digital collaboration and a concert with Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo which you can look forward to.

He's not forgetting his dreams of becoming a pilot even if he's very busy. In which he says “I have already done a 15 hour-flight and a private pilot license holder needs about 40 hours. I need about 150-200 more for commercial flights. I will certainly work hard for that.”

Watch out for more of him this 2019! This is just a start!

Jollibee Releases Adobo Flakes Yum! Burger and Halo-Halo Sundae

Thursday, June 09, 2016

Looks like Filipino brand Jollibee is dishing out its arsenal as they bring out for a limited time some good ol Pinoy favorites. In celebration of Philippine Independence this whole month of June, they introduced a new concept, the Jollibee Adobo Flakes Yum! Burger and my personal favorite the Halo-Halo Sundae!

The Jollibee Adobo Flakes Yum! Burger is made of your original Yum beef patty topped with Chicken Adobo Flakes on a soft bun. This makes the burger extra savory, garlicky, peppery, with a hint of dried laurel, vinegar and soy flavor. It's to pay homage to the #PinoyAndProud people who love that home cooked Adobo, a candidate for the national dish in the Philippines.

Aside from that, they finally made one of the things that I've thought of a few years back. They made a Halo Halo Sundae. The Halo Halo already made headlines in L.A. when it got featured in Anthony Bourdain's show but this version doesn't contain ice but only the ice cream they make on their machines. It was lovely, something that I didn't know would personally work... But it did!

Jollibee isn't also going to stop there, they will be making this whole month of June a little more memorable by holding tons of events and FREE Adobo Flakes Yum! Burger in the coming days so make sure you follow them on their official Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/JollibeePhilippines or their website http://www.jollibee.com.ph. You can also have them all delivered through their new hotline by pressing #87000 on you phone because Jollibee wants you to feel how it is to be #PinoyAndProud!

Make sure you like their page because they promise more events as they participate in the Independence day festivities this June. Have you already tasted the burgers? How was it? I like the Halo Halo Sundae so if you can please get me another serving.

Why Is It So Good To Be Filipino?

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

 photo DSC_0033.jpg

I love being Filipino. I like growing up in a democratic country. I even like the fact that no matter how poor the country is, we all remain happy and resilient. I love the use of "po" and "opo" to show respect to elders. I love our family ties and how close this unit is plus our extended families. I love how much value we put to our loved ones and make them a priority above everyone else. I love how in times of trouble, we still think of others and do what we can to help them no matter how big or small that is.

 photo DSC_0066.jpg

I love how predominantly Catholic our country is and what good traits we seem to have gotten with the religious belief. I love how we make God the center of everything and call to him in times of need, to ultimately... never lose hope. I also love how we have basketball courts in every street, even the NBA gets amazed by that.

 photo DSC_0140.jpg

I love how free we are to listen and create music without any government stopping us or filtering our words for that matter. I love how we appreciate the smallest things, from sipping nectar off a santan flower, to fighting with spiders, to flipping cards and making bubbles with hibiscus flowers. I love how we can always play outside and never care how haggard we get when we were still kids. I love our we all made the "mall culture" when so many of us spend time there to enjoy shopping or just getting air conditioned.

 photo DSC_0025.jpg

I love how we can easily adapt with other cultures, our ability to understand and speak English and encompass language barriers because of our innate characteristic of being nice and welcoming. I love the fact that we are all connected, from Facebook, Twitter or Instagram we are one of the worlds largest in terms of social network activity. We even held the number 1 spot in 2011. I love that we have a LOT of beauty queens. Just look around you, look how beautiful our Filipinas are. I love how we inherited a glorious past, where heroes abound every province and city depicting how they all made sacrifices for the three stars and the sun. I love being a Filipino, there are a million reasons why. Have you asked yourself that question lately? You should watch this!

Anna and Marcus already showed you how good it is to be Filipino. I'd like to enjoin YOU and the WHOLE NATION to answer this question on your social media channels... Now tell us...

Bakit ang #SarapMagingPilipino ?

AXN Celebrates Philippines Independence Day (Show them how you love your country!)

Monday, May 30, 2011

I have been able to enjoy freedom from unbelievable leaps and bounds because of the sacrifices countless men and women fought for in the past. A country of heroes; when often one's blood is exchanged for not his own, but his countrymen. It made me who I am now. Filipino!

There is no other kind of love that would ever compare to one's love for his country. In it's vast archipelago, rich fertile land and stretches of ocean one can't be thankful enough for being born into the Philippines. In celebration of Philippine Independence day, I shall continue to live and make this world a little better than when I found it. I'll try and teach the next generation about what most of our people had to go through in order to give them this democracy and freedom we fought for; and continue to do so in the coming years. I am an inheritor of a very glorious past, my future may be uncertain but I'll continue to be a Filipino by thought, by word and by my actions.

Philippine Independence Day is on June 12th. AXN would like to invite viewers from the Philippines to send their greetings, messages and thoughts about what this particular day means for us. This is our chance to shine on stage on a worldwide level. Make sure your entries are less than 50 words, Tagalog, English or Taglish. Send them before noon of May 31 to their Facebook Fan Page (click here for direct link) or email contests@axn-asia.com with the subject title "AXN Celebrates Philippines Independence Day". The shortlisted entries will be broadcasted on AXN channels all over the world on the 12th and 13th of June 2011. Make sure you show them how much you love the Philippines!

Great Independent Living!

Friday, September 03, 2010

Taking care for the elderly in our part of the world is quite a cultural experience. We have very high respect and love for our extended families and we keep it a point to take care of them as they age. I also know how important it is for our children to reconnect with their grandparents and we never limit the amount of interaction. The thing that makes things like these memorable is the whole experience. I think it is quite the same for our relatives in the US. There are some slight differences but weather they decide to get Independent Living San Antonio Texas or elsewhere, we still make it a point that the family connection never ceases. It is important and there are institutions that would be able to provide the preferred living style they choose, after all they deserve to be respected the same.

Would you ever consider living alone and worry free?! I'm sure you would love to have less stress and work in your daily lives. Rest is important in your golden years and if that decision were up to me; I would gladly go alone and independent. I want to have freedom that I deserve. Maybe if there would be something that I would like my Grandparents and Parents to have; it is one that would be able to get things easier for them. The last thing I want is to make them worry about it. Wouldn't that be a nice idea to get your folks involved in?! It's just like a great vacation!

My Friday, June 12, 2009 - Independence Day

Thursday, June 11, 2009

It's June 12 today and it's independence day in the Philippines. Whatever it means to you, happy independence day!

I just got my IR remote for Trish, bought it this morning and they delivered it around noon. I'm happy because now it would be easier for me to take self portraits. Although I don't know how I would be able to hide the remote when I take a picture of myself... 10 second delay maybe? Hehehe.

Aside from that, I was in constant stomach pain this morning and afternoon. I barely got enough sleep and almost was late for work. I'm gonna still work my butt off though. Not that I'm complaining, but it would be nice to have a raise of some sort... my tax is getting bigger by the minute but my basic pay is still the same. Same old story huh?! Haha...

I'm angry at some people right now, because they told me they'll pay me back. But its been a few months and no news of that payment yet... how I wish there would be some hitlist I can put them on so they'll be dead the day after... I would really love to sign them up for that! *sarcastic*

I'm happy it's the weekend once again, I would be able to go back to my new hobby again. I'm going to Trinoma tomorrow so I can visit the crumpler store. Probably buy a camera bag for Trish (My Nikon D60) *there I go again addicting myself to bags!* and a tripod, and a lenshood for the kit lens. The list goes on and on! This is getting to be expensive I know, but I'll stop buying stuff somewhere in the middle. Anyway, I haven't got a lens yet for shooting a little far. If someone would buy me a gift, that would be nice! Heheh. It would not be bad too if you guys started donating them spare dollars you know! Hahah!
