Sky Parks Help Cool Buildings

Saturday, February 14, 2015

I've seen tons of these in Japan and other first world countries. Roof gardens not only provide produce, they also get buildings a tad colder than usual. Shelters that strictly set up things like this not only adds oxygen from the plants and trees but contribute to less heat that starts the greenhouse effect. Aside from that, employees in buildings and guests would be able to enjoy the scenery, the ambiance of seeing something this good even in concrete jungles.

The good news is, the technology is pretty simple and we've also seen some of it in new buildings in the Philippines. You've probably seen the ones in SM Skygarden and how the public has gotten to see it's aesthetic and environmental impact. It's like an oasis in the middle of the city and mind you it has minimal power consumption and helps keep it cool in these areas. It's like a park and I've seen a couple of restaurants, bars, stores who adapt their seats to accommodate customers who would love to be in the gardens too. SM has them in North Edsa, even in SM Aura Premier, why don't you give them a visit today and enjoy these wonderful technological and ecological advances yourselves! After all, it's free!

Mom Should Get Me Awnings!

Sunday, October 17, 2010

You guys probably know that I'm trying to build a refuge in the south. Part of that plan is to also get some furniture and pieces that I'd enjoy with my family. I wanted something rustic and very natural looking so the wood work is going to be a little hard. I forgot something though aside from the swing I wanted to get for the porch; I should have had awnings attached to the roof since the rain isn't a joke around here. That might just spoil the wood so I need to get one for it. The deal is I don't have that much choice in this side of the world so I'd probably get ones on line. Here we go again with my retail therapy ha-ha!

This is pretty much a necessity so I can take care of the ones I bought. Imagine what it would be like if torrential rain and sun always hit them, that would really spell another shelling out of money if I don't take care of them right? I have to make sure I make my investment work for me and my family because after all I worked for it! I want to still be shaded from harsh rays while sitting on that swing + porch reading my very first novel. I know! I should have been writer somewhere in my life. This is going to be another one of those reality shows put on paper. I've got to find them now... some stores like HILLARYS have them (*hint*) and Mom would be the perfect candidate to donate that to me! That's just about sounds right! I hope Mom agrees!

Need to fix it!

Monday, September 06, 2010

It's raining again on this side of the world and I'm really afraid one day that I would need to shell out a couple of hundred dollars just for the roof. This is 180 square meter home and if I calculate that with the cost per GI sheet here it will be so expensive. I wonder where I could get a reasonably priced deal. The contractor is bugging me to get it replaced instead of just putting in gray putty to temporarily solve the problem. The wood is already rotting and things are getting wet even inside the house and bathroom. I wish there was a way I could get Austin Metal Roofing over my house so I wouldn't have to worry about it so much. Every time there is a storm or typhoon, Mom gets us to pray over it so it wouldn't fly away. That will be a nightmare and I hope it doesn't happen anytime soon.

There was an instance that happened and all the cabinet and China Mom had been affected so this is seriously going to be hard for us just to stay and do nothing. Maybe if I get my hands on that loan I'm eying for I would get this to be a priority. I would need to also replace a couple of dry walls and keep them dry literally. I'm no expert carpenter but I know what I need at home when the going gets tough. I would like to get more of this problem resolved soon. The last thing I want is to get everyone else worried about our home. It's the only one I have too!

Do you have problems like these at home?! Care to tell me about it?!

Remembering Typhoon ONDOY

Monday, January 11, 2010

We had a couple of months watching the rain pour down in Manila that flooded most of the eastern part of the city. I believe in divine intervention but it never happened here. It ravaged most of my office mates houses and trashed all the appliances, cars and livelihood they have in the PASIG - RIZAL Area. It was a nightmare for all of us and I wish there was something we could have done to make life better. Our house was not spared because part of the roof gave in. Rain water washed in the ceiling and rendered our piano unusable, pictures wet and sofa disfigured. I was really not into handyman jobs so I employed the work of professionals to do the deed. I was really not happy with the existing Metal Roofing we had so I had it redone. I was uncomfortable sleeping because I kept thinking about the others. I was even lucky on such an unfortunate day.

Things that I did not even see on our roof came down. Imagine black mold crumbling down together with the rain water. It made the place doubly filthy. I know I had to make them cement based or stainless treated. Roofing contractors agreed about the suggestions I made and got the best there is from the market. Installed it a week after the typhoon and made guarantees that we would not experience it again. What a good day to start over and I hope we all start rebuilding our lives and never lose hope that everything will be fine.
