More Options: POTATO CORNER Announces Return of LOOPYS and HARVEST CHIPS

Tuesday, September 24, 2024

The Philippines favorite fry brand POTATO CORNER recently announced the return of two of their most fun tater cuts, the Potato Corner Loopys and Harvest Chips. We all know them for having those hot, fresh off the fryer flavored French Fries, and this time, they want to give you options which you can mix with your usual lovely fare.

The Loopys are these potato wonders that are cut like twirls have more real estate to put your favorite flavors on, so aside from getting you more filled and satisfied, you have an intense flavor profile as the signature Potato Corner flavors cover it.

The Harvest Chips on the other hand are very special. Aside from it being a potato product, it comes from produce planted and harvested from Benguet. They did this with Gawad Kalinga, an NGO that helps develop communities. With this cooperation, they are able to freshly fry thinner, crispier chips, which you can also mix with the other cut types and snack products.

Potato Corner has this in SOLO sizes or even TERA MIX. To give you an idea, you have the option to mix this up with the Crunchy Chicken Pops, and have Loopys or Harvest Chips together with it. Check out the social channels of Potato Corner if you want to know more about it!

Jose Mari Chan and Nico Bolzico in Crazy Collab to Double the Holiday

Thursday, December 03, 2020

The year has been crazy and what better way to do even crazier but by putting the cherry on top, a crazy collaboration between Father Christmas Jose Mari Chan and the crazy man from South America Nico Bolzico.

They call it “Remix in Our Hearts” and yes, it's all unpredictable as they say. They got together courtesy of Lay's. For those who don't know, Lay's Chips has been extra visible nowadays in groceries, convenience stores. I still get mine in the large bags because the small ones don't match the big boy LOL.

Anyway, it's pretty hard to describe this all so I'm doing the best thing next to sliced bread. I'm putting the video below so you can see for yourself how crazy this is.

Now I'm sure Jose Mari Chan and Nico Bolzico made your Christmas a little bearable. Just like them, you too can double the holiday flavor + double up on the #LaysOnHolidays with the new Lay’s Duo Packs. Now you can have your potato chip fix and enjoy them in different flavors, I prefer the Classic, but can always mix and match with the Barbecue, Sour Cream and Onion, and Cheddar and Sour Cream flavors. Now with the duo pack, I can have it all in one sitting or just enjoy a bag if I'm already full. Imagine the things you can do now online, or perhaps if you have friends and family at home, snack up and double up, make this year still memorable. 2021 is not far behind so let's make this month count.

This only costs Php246 (Buy 2, save Php40). Check it out on physical stores or online via Shopee and Lazada. I want to have this every time I have a movie night at home, let's double up with the Lay's Duo Pack!

Business Survival: The Barrio Fiesta Story

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

I remember every Barrio Fiesta meal I had. Now that I’ve been confined in my home, I remember several bowls of puto’t dinuguan (pork blood stew), ginataang halo halo, inihaw na liempo, lechon kawali, ensalada, mangga’t bagoong and kare kare that always had my attention. I also keep a stash, pieces of Barrio Fiesta products at home which eventually ends in Balik Bayan boxes to send to the US, or just with me because I adore their sweet chili bagoong for all the right reasons.

Speaking of which, Prime Global Corporation is taking steps to adjust to the new normal. They are very optimistic to see how Filipinos have risen up to the occasion and have done home based online food businesses, food deliveries and take outs to augment the needs of Pinoys. They’re taking their packaged foods online and diversify it. The lovely shrimp paste now gets more attention with the new sauces, spreads, dry mixes and snacks. PGC Marketing Head Ms Rachelle Gigante says “We are seeing growth opportunities with the rise of new home chefs. This would bring interest to lutong bahay recipes and we all want to be there for them. This is why we have also shared our recipes and tips on our social media channels, to also help people who have lost their livelihood.”

They also cancelled their on ground efforts and shifted online. This include opening bulk orders on their Facebook page so whole communities can get them easily. Aside from that, they also have these products on Barrio Fiesta stores, huge groceries and supermarts too. They also maintain high quality and authentic taste, which makes them execute their strong business model here and international markets claiming almost 65 percent market share in shrimp pastes. PCG President and CEO Vincent Ace Villa-real says “Our goal is to further dominate, aspire to be the top company for sauces, dressings, condiments and packaged food categories. We are not a single product company so expansion and partnerships are a given. We are a strong retail brand with superior taste and quality. We have strong fundamentals and are taking advantage of that!”

Earlier this year, they started manufacturing the Barrio Fiesta Gourmet series Patis (fish sauce), Barrio Fiesta Tubasuk (Spiced Cane Vinegar), the Crispy Joy Breading Mix, the Peanut Butter Spreads, Fiesta Chicken and Beef Broth Cubes. For kicks, they also have the new Barrio Fiesta Jumbo Roasted Peanuts. Undeniably, they do really good products which I consider staples at home.

Make sure you follow their social media accounts to get their really good recipes.

You’ll love what’s happening with Barrio Fiesta, and the good things they plan to have for you soon!

Harry Chocolates and Wackie Corn Chips Launch

Thursday, August 29, 2019

Went to this launch this morning with the owners of YanYan International Philippines Inc. who manufacture food products in the Philippines and export some of them in the Southeast Asian region. They are the same people who produced that favorite "Lumpia" and "Karaoke" snack you used to buy in sari sari stores when you were a kid. This is in some way their more premium line and we've come to bear good news. They are launching two more called Wackie Corn Chips and Harry Chocolate which we got to taste today.

They have these corn chips in different flavors, their Harry Chocolates also come in plain Milk Chocolate or ones with rice crispies, a variety you'll surely love.

Owner Mr. Lito Chua says "We love food and I have traveled to different countries and found how common it is for every person. YanYan prides itself in having state of the art machines so we could only produce the best for a good price. We have more than 150 products in the market and there is no secret in success, we just started and I think we are just doing our best since 2003. We think this is the foundation we have built for our kids and this is for their future. They will be the ones who will build on this. My wife is so good in what she does, she sleeps late and wakes up early just so she could supervise operations. I also did packaging and distribution in the past while my wife does the financial stuff, it is just in the efforts and dedication that you put in it. I am not successful yet, but we will get there."

All these Harry Chocolate bars and variety of Wackie Corn Chips are available in leading supermarkets and grocery stores nationwide. Try it out today, especially the Wackie Corn Chips with Salted Egg on it because it's so good!

Love from Oishi's PANCHOS

Friday, December 01, 2017

Gifts come in all forms and sizes these days and by the looks of it, this one is HUGE. This special bag contains PANCHOS, a new corn snack from OISHI that's available in three flavors. One is Nacho Cheese, Barbecue and my personal favorite Taco.

This snack is great on it's own but more fun if you had dips with it. I love it with Mayonnaise and Garlic Aioli, it even works with Guacamole. I remember dancing to La Cucaracha years ago which was sung by legendary Trios Los Panchos, so in a nutshell I know Panchos is a common nickname given to people with Francisco first names. I guess this one is totally Mexican but plays on what Filipinos love about their food. Now that you know about it, go get them at stores, groceries and supermarkets nationwide. Trust me on the Taco, I assure you, you'll love it!

A Surprise from Oishi

Saturday, March 05, 2016

Imagine the look on my face when I got home last night and a HUGE box of surprises was waiting on my doorstep. It just had the letters "O, Wow!" written on front and tons of stickers on top telling me to open it. I got it inside our living room and my Mum was excited than me since they got package that afternoon.

When we opened it three huge balloons came popping out of the box but what surprised me most was the contents inside. This made my day!

It was tons and tons of NEW Oishi Snacks inside the box and even if I was already full from having a buffet dinner, it didn't stop me from getting my hands on these new items that have just been released by Oishi.

This is Mom and Dad's favorite, it's the Oishi MOBSTERS Caramel and Cheese Popcorn. It's real popcorn covered with sweet caramel and the others were sprinkled with Cheese powder to get you that sweet and salty combination we all so LOVE! It's not too sweet, it's not too salty either so you don't even know you've finished the whole bag in minutes. This is perfect for those movie marathons you've been planning on weekends. If you could just snuggle up have this, plus a glass of cold cola, ahhh, you can't beat that.

This one is my personal favorite. I think when they made this, they had me in mind. I love garbanzos. Whether it's a dip or a dessert, I totally dig it. Aside from that, I get goosebumps because they want it to be SPICY. A few handfuls, and I'm already loving the heat. The taste is also a little on the creamy salty side so it's like having garbanzo chips but in strips. It reminds me of shoestring potatoes but it's bigger. I love the variety and this one would be perfect for those drinking sessions my guy friends would do almost every night LOL! This is PEA POW!

This one takes the spot because believe it or not, we even had it for dinner! Yeap, just like the ones you see in fastfood chains, Oishi takes it home by making FISHDA the lovely and crunchy Kropek that everyone loves! If you're always fond of crunchy things in your table, take a few of these and make it a side dish. You can also have this as a snack if you love fish crackers as it is reminiscent of it. It's also a lot in one bag so there's enough for everybody. It's also not to salty so in my books, it's super good. Now isn't that amazing that Oishi had all of these lovely snacks available now in supermarkets nationwide? Exactly my point. I love it, you should love it too!

Thanks Oishi for the lovely surprise! Hope there's more next!

Comforting Snacks and Tea at Zoyys Republic

Sunday, May 10, 2015

I know it musn't be the opportune time to tell you about this (since there's recent controversy and all) but I've found a new cozy tea shop near UST, at 1047 G. Tolentino Street in Manila. They call it Zoyys Republic, a brain child of 5 entrepreneurial friends who wanted to have a new bangin place to hang out while having milk tea concoctions, small snacks in a mid modern industrial ambiance right in the heart of the city. We  tried some of their teas and snack items while we were there with my friends from the UE Red Tribe.

The Interiors

The place is nice. They've got parking space for a few cars since it's part of a building. Inside, they wanted to exude a relaxed industrial feel with some accents of wood and glass fixtures on top of shelves. Honestly, I think they're still trying to find their identity and is finding it a little hard filling up huge walls with artwork, books and knick knacks. What I find cool is the ample amount of seating, the re-purposed doors turned into tables and the large wooden bunk chairs in front of the store. They've also got really good air conditioning, so it would be nice to have an escape from the smoldering heat if the sun outside. It's a little problematic for them because people which mostly are comprised of students in nearby universities think that since it looks a little upscale, that their food would actually be expensive too. But really no, I find their prices quite competitive compared to other tea shops in the area who didn't even invest in interiors. This to me is something of a selling point. You get the feel and ambiance of a high end coffee shop yet you only pay for affordable tea concoctions and snack items from their menu. Which reminds me, we have to talk about that too.

The Food

They're kinda limited to tea and snacks now since there are nearby full blown restaurants who serve full meals nearby, like there's even one in the same building. I like what they came out with though because the snacks entails some really good fried comfort food starting off with Zoyys Republic's Chicken Poppers!

The Chicken Poppers was very crunchy. Think of the bite sized chicken meat pieces that are breaded and deep fried. It's lightly salted but it may taste a bit bland to some; but the goal here is not to have the protein alone. On the side of the crunchy fries are small containers with home made mustard based dips that are both sweet and tangy. The contrast of that and the crunchy chicken was a surprise because I don't think most of us are fond of mustard right? It works though and as I see it, you'll like the combination after a while and you might end up asking for more.

You can pair up these fried numbers with the tea choices that they have inside the store. I chose the Grande Apple Yakult and loved the tangy notes together with the fruity drink. My friends had the Lychee Peach Fruit Tea and the Strawberry Tea that's got a black tea base. It's not too sweet and you can ask them to tone down sugar if you prefer. They've got other things on the tea and Yakult list that are all fruit based. Really good.

For something savory and filling, this is Zoyys Republic's Chili Dog. It's moderately spicy, meaty, and you must make sure to have this while it's hot! It's comfort food at its finest. I suppose guys would have this on their own and ladies could share, but it's so tasty they might finish up an order of this or two. The sausage is pretty big, like a frankfurter that's really juicy. I suggest you order this and the next one if you have friends with you.

For groups, you can opt for the Nachos. It was okay, nothing fancy. It does the job of keeping your mouth busy in between conversations. If you're planning to stay and kill time while you're at Zoyys Republic, go ahead and have this otherwise, have this sinful batch of heavenly goodness. I'm talking about the Deep Fried Oreos.

The first time I saw Deep Fried Oreos was during an ANTM episode when Ann Ward won. She eats tons of this and I guess some people here picked it up. It's super cool that you can find it now in Zoyys Republic. It's sweet and it's the perfect way to end your meal. I mean, I had about 4 pcs and left the rest for my friends. That alone tells you how nice it is, and if there's something you should order before leaving the shop, I must say it should be this bar none!

Zoyys Republic is open from 9AM to 1AM on weekdays and Saturdays while 3PM to 1AM on Sundays. There's a lot more on their menu that I haven't even tried yet so if you're looking for something comforting and affordable, drop by Zoyys Republic at 1047 G. Tolentino Street in Manila. I think it's even near España that you can walk from there, as it's not too far. Bring your friends too while you're at it. Trust me on the deep fried oreos!
