G-SHOCK Releases #PambansangGSHOCK Watch

Friday, July 20, 2018

G-SHOCK has always been in my wrist since their resonance early 2000s. I was so honored to have met the man who started it all in 2014 when he personally went here for the G-SHOCK World Tour, I'm talking about Kikuo Ibe. The man talked about how he started conceptualizing a timepiece that could weather the elements, survive a drop from 4 floors, then wow the whole world with it.

They've done exactly that.

Then there were more.

Chronographs

Solar and Carbon

More Chronographs

Big G-SHOCK for men.

Now that they're here in the Philippines, they've not only made their presence felt - but sold quite a lot of these timepieces which we've all grown to love. At that time they even made a limited edition GSHOCK watch for the Philippines, which I've been using since then (Yes I am still using it til now!), worn out but totally still fine from all angles. It's one of the reasons why I always have a GSHOCK because it literally lasts years, very practical and superbly designed.

This year, they've announced the G-SHOCK "Design The National G-Shock Competition" and a LOT of people joined in (about 1,200 individuals) who had background in art direction, product design, graphic design and just about every regular joe who could whip up the best looking GSHOCK that would best represent the Philippines.

CASIO Japan Executive Masaki Obu announcing the winning design.

Finalists include Aaron Cedric Manaloto, Adrian Delmo, Austeen Manalang, Carlo San Jose, Dennis Inosanto, Jerome Banal and Joshua Panaligan. They were flanked by Mr. Masaki Obu during the event.

Dylan Dylanco shows her winning piece, it's called HABI and now dubbed the #PambansangGShock

The winner is Dylan Dylanco. She is self taught, but is an experienced illustrator who's expertise include branding and graphic design. She has already done a lot of things including other lifestyle brands and sports gears, no wonder she's done quite well no?

Her inspiration for this design is the Filipino's undying spirit, the Filipino tribes from up north to the ones in the south and how we've done fabric weaving through the centuries. If you're a Filipino, you would be a little familiar with the patterns, which in turn would also remind you of indigenous tribal warriors in the country. Their grit, toughness, same spirit that runs through the veins of our country's heroes, comparable to the tough G-Shock watches we wear today.

The HABI on my wrist.

The warrior colors are just magnificent! Plus, it's built to last!

This is officially the first G-SHOCK made for and designed by a Filipino. Wear them proud as these guys are limited edition. There are only 200 pieces of these out there, count out the number of celebrities who were there that afternoon so that's even a smaller batch.

You won't get these anywhere but only the G-SHOCK stores like G-SHOCK Ayala Vertis North (where we were!),G-SHOCK SM City North Edsa in QC, G-SHOCK Glorietta 4 in Makati, G-SHOCK Greenbelt 5, G-SHOCK SM City Clark in Pampanga, G-SHOCK SM City Santa Rosa in Laguna, G-SHOCK SM Lanang Premier in Davao and G-SHOCK SM CDO Downtown Premier branch down south.. It retails for Php 9,999, stocks surely will run out fast!

Hurry! I'm not even joking!

Time Master Poseidon Collection Launch

Saturday, May 13, 2017

I had an epiphany last night when I watched the launch of Time Master, a brand that Brian Daniel Poe Llamanzares did at posh Prive in BGC. You see, I'm not alone in this world who think Millenials actually lack a lot of things, but Brian is totally different. I think upbringing has a lot to do with it. I shook hands with him, small talk, but felt how passion has fueled this inalienable gusto for time pieces.

He distinctly remembers how his Father (who was also there by the way even if he doesn't go public that much) always had him appreciate how good a watch could be by generously giving him one every time he accomplishes a milestone, life goals and how he felt so reassured of his love and care. It got him to feel the timeless pieces boost his confidence, allow him to harness that energy and make it into positive things, he'd like to convey that as well in these collections.

They brought out the Time Master Poseidon Collection. It's a series of watches that could endure 100 meters depth, make you feel godly if there's an opportunity. The design is bespoke, could be worn in a casual garment, or a suit for formal occasions. It also had that Trident Neptune would have in all his scenes, and that en-vibes power.

Brian is blessed, he had his whole family back him up during the launch. If you look closely, there's his father, the Queen of Philippine Cinema Susan Roces also flanked by Senator Grace Poe, premier actress Lovi Poe and the rest of their family.

I saw some pieces like the Time Master Metal Ore with steel as main material, leather straps, and a couple with a very nautical theme. The models carried them well, accented their plain clothing and made it upscale by wearing the watches he's got at Time Master. I would really mistake this to be an existing international brand already if I didn't know it was just being launched today. That's the plan, and when I heard that I was equally excited for him.

Bryan says "Its about having a story behind a watch, it's designed to be passed on from generation to generation. One that you could take to adventures, one that you could make memories with. It was common sense to name his brand after a mythical beach. The hour glass has a trident on it. It's the Poseidon collection. "

He adds "As all of you know it's been a year from campaigns and this watch was a way to move forward, a passion project and to compete internationally? I'm left speechless. Tonight is not about me, it's about the people that made this possible. Thanks to my Dad who is here too. He used to give me a watch whenever I did something great, now I'm giving the first ever series 000 to my Dad. To everyone that came, even my friends that came from the provinces, thank you so much!"

Best of all, he's got a CSR arm already involved. Part of the proceeds of the sale of these time pieces will actually go to MovED, a reputable organization involved in early child education. It's well thought out and it goes to a cause he also cares about, that tells a lot. I don't want to say he's perfect, but he's quite close. A good man, a millenial who does more than the usual and uses that voice to do more for the future of these kids.

Time Master is going to be a worldwide brand - and if you're not ready, you better be. It's coming to retail stores very soon but for now, you may visit Facebook.com/TimeMasterOfficial of you want to order one for yourself, or that person in your life that needs an extra boost of confidence.

Tomato Time Opens Newest Branch at Shangrila Mall

Monday, October 31, 2016

Looks like our friends from Tomato Time has just set up shop at the posh Shangri-la Mall in Edsa Mandaluyong City. They're at the 5th level and are offering their lovely watches. I've had my first one around 2 years ago got another one a year after. I like their designs back then and how affordable their products are. Now, they've gone strides, leaps and bounds in coming out with even newer designs that would fit the NOW generation. They have also come out with very romantic pieces, personifying elegance when the occasion needs it. We were able preview the watches early as a perk, it was so nice!

They've come up with these easy, custom watches that already have designs like monograms, graphics, and even photos. They can actually accommodate orders if you want your own design immortalized on these timepieces by shelling out Php 500 or a bit more. They also have packaged corporate giveaways so if you're planning to get one for your employees, a Tomato Time watch must be something you could consider.

Plus ladies, I know you're eyes are stuck looking at these watches. They made this specifically for you and even wrap it up in Rose Gold palette boxes that will surely make it even MORE special. Now think about giving this as a gift to your sister, Mom or even Grandma. The watches would surely be something that they would want to keep, and when the batteries run out and you're under Tomato Time's 1 year warranty, they can fix it for you!

Now I'm planning to get my own site's logo to be inside one of these watches just to see if it's cute. The blogger already is but if wearing something from their collection would make it even better, I have no qualms not to go ahead and do it.

Tomato Time now has their branch at the 5th Floor of Shangri-la Mall in Mandaluyong City. They also have one in SM North Edsa which I frequently go to. This Christmas, it might be a good reason to visit their store because luxury doesn't really mean it has to be expensive. It's Tomato Time!

Father of G-SHOCK will be in Manila for "Shock The World Tour"

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

This guy right here is Mr. Kikuo Ibe, the Father of Casio's G-SHOCK. One day, he dropped an heirloom watch given to him by his father. He watched it break into pieces, and broke his heart in the process. He envisioned one day that he'll create a timepiece that won't break when dropped. That was how the great G-SHOCK story started.

Since he's the head of Casio's watch design team, it was really hard finding a material that could substantially prevent the watch from breaking. He saw a girl playing with a ball and was inspired by it. He thought of suspending the actual timepiece with air or "space" hence the design of having a hollow structure holding the module whilst it's suspended inside.

In 1983 they came out with the first G-SHOCK model called DW5000C. The watch followed a triple 10 principle which means it's got a battery life of 10 years, 10 bar pressure resistance and can withstand a 10 meter drop too. A lot of others followed suit and made G-SHOCK a byword for timepieces.

2013 marks G-SHOCK's 30th Anniversary. They have been holding events around the world and yes they call this "SHOCK THE WORLD" among other things. Mr. Ibe will be appearing in Manila to get Pinoys a glimpse of the celebration this February 28. I'll also try to be at the press conference prior to that at HYVE bar in W Global Center, Bonifacio Global City. For those interested to see this guy who made history in the flesh, please check out http://shocktheworldmanila.com/ for more details.

Classic Industrial Designed Watches by SEVENFRIDAY

Friday, October 11, 2013

Our wine glasses were filled and everyone was in a very festive mood when the launch for SevenFriday happened in BGC a few days ago. This brand is rarely new if compared with the others but it has well made it's mark into the international market because of impeccable craftsmanship that the Swiss is known for.

It's the first time that this brand has set foot in Manila and I've seen some of their pieces on display. Men would love something like this. First, it ain't too glittery from diamonds or precious stones. I love the exposed machinery as well, what am I talking about you say? Take a look at these timepieces!

Now with time pieces like these, I'm sure you're kinda off put with the fact that it doesn't look old. I think it's more intended for young professionals who have quite achieved something in life and would want to have it be as a reward for himself. I can't blame why collectors have picked up these watches already because it's really classy. The materials vary on each one and you can tell artisans have spent a lot of time making it.

You can even see how precious the details are when you check the one on the left. It's got a case made of stainless steel, a vertical brushed finish, you can choose between Silver / rhodium and black interior that's finished circular, brushed and diamond cut on 11 applied parts. It also has a separate disc for 24H indication and second functions.

Other pieces are extremely special like this one that's got WOOD parts on it. This is no joke. On the contrary I've never seen anything like it. This definitely solves that problem of making a modern designed timepiece a classic and timeless one. I can imagine this being handed over to the next generation. Impressive and I can't wait until major stores, malls and their own properties come out with even better designs in the future. It's surely something to enjoy because it'll make your everyday a FRIDAY... who doesn't want to enjoy life anyway!

Thanks to the executives of SevenFriday and the gorgeous ladies over at Wine Story in BGC for letting us have a good time, literally and figuratively. I'd like to have one of these pieces soon!
