Looks like UAAP Season 79 is getting the support it needs. Telecom giant PLDT through PLDT Home just forged a partnership and they're doing it in style by getting the latest up and coming athletes from the best schools in the country. Their new endorsers include these ladies (the rookies) plus a couple more personalities who are already part of the PLDT family a couple of years back.
Top athletes from different UAAP Schools are now part of the PLDT UAAP Season 79 family.
I particularly wanted to interview my own school's representative which is Seth Rodriguez, but when they came out to greet the press, she wasn't there. Still, I was glad she was acknowledged and even dubbed as one of the rising stars of the league. Anyway, they got some of the fans to join them playing a game show which was a little close to Family Feud, but only had UAAP themed questions in it. It was amazing how much they could actually think of in a few seconds, surveys and all! In the end, the veteran players plus one from the fans actually won the game and with that includes Php 25,000 worth of sports equipment for their chosen school. That was a nice gesture.
Went home with a smile on my face and got me thinking, it looks like the volleyball future of the Philippines rest on these gals. I hope they do good after UAAP and be professionals that can represent the country in world tournaments.
Thanks to PLDT Home ULTERA for having us! Thank you also to Chili's who served very good food during the event, I was full to the brim!
You probably all know that I live and bleed RED. I'm a warrior by birth and by right. My folks graduated in UE and so did I. Dad was a former Red Warrior and Red Shirt, Mom taught classes when high school was still around that era. I was blessed to have the chance to be one of the members of the Red Tribe. It's a community where Alumni, Students and Faculty from all over the world meet. I realize that we might not have the actual number to overwhelm other UAAP counterparts, but we have something good going on. We have HEART, that WARRIOR SPIRIT carries us on... even on days when everybody else was losing hope we still stuck it out with the Red Warriors. You can count on that!
Proud as we are; we try our best to seek and help those lost souls who often just sits quietly in the bylines and couldn't root for our varsity teams because they felt alone, felt they were too old and out of place among the sea of students who frequent the stands. We never knew we could be this big and still remain intimate. Our main goal is to have the whole crowd be called the Red Tribe. I'm glad the pioneers still have the time and spunk to continue what we are doing until now. It's one of the proudest things I felt as a Warrior, I felt more of that when I went to the University of the East PEP Rally in the Recto Campus.
The University of the East Fencing team did not just bring prestige to our school, but the entire country! The Southeast Asian Games was a cinch for them!
It was nice to see we have a Juniors Volleyball Team, we need to start training these athletes early in order to get more exposure in these games.
I haven't been seeing their games because of lack of information on their schedules + my schedule sucks. I'm sure these guys would give the other schools one heck of a fight like any Red Warrior team would do. Good luck on your games!
Look at the crowd just before the things started, this is 9AM and it was pretty early for me. I came from graveyard work but went from Eastwood to Recto (and stay awake!) just to get to this PEP Rally. I got to see the other teams there as well.
Just look at these kids. They are called the UE KID WARRIORS. They will surely get to be better basketball players when they grow up! If we start this early I'm sure the elusive Championship would not be far behind!
Fresh from their trip they gave us a treat! The UE CHORALE has proven to be one of the best in the world by winning 2 Gold Medals in the recently concluded 2011 Harmonie Festival, Germany. We also have their Conductor and Choir Master Ms. Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero to thank for that! Congratulations guys and gals!
Of course! How can we forget THE UE RED WARRIORS MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM! I'm impressed with the lineup even though other schools would just shrug us off thinking they can win just because of their imports LOL! We are staying ALL FILIPINO this season and not to discount VERY GOODLOOKING! Our team will be one hell of a great team to beat when the games commence. I am so proud that former WARRIOR and Professional Defense Minister Jerry CodiƱera will lead the whole team and the tribe to get that Championship we all wish for!
Just with the actual formation of the team, I congratulate everyone who is behind this! The fight maybe tough but I'm sure we'll win this no matter what!
Here are some of the Warriors you need to take note of!
Our Team Captain Paul Christian C. Zamar will use his experience and skills to beat tough opponents this season! (Asahan ka ng Red Tribe ah! Hehehehe!) He got lots of SHREIKS from the female students... I'm not surprised though! Ha-ha!
This guy is Shej Roi D. Sumang. He's THE GUY to watch out for. His game is "SUPERIOR" and we may be owing a lot of our wins on his shoulders. He's quiet but he'll explode in the court when you least expect it. He was from Letran in high school. I'm rooting for him this season. We only have 2 tall guys and we'll work them like a horse so these key players will have to spend more time making points and equalizing the floor come game time. He's one tough cookie! Adrian Santos needs to step up as always too.
This guy looks like our glamor boy for this season (remember Xian Lim??). I know, the other schools must have run out of looks by now LOL! He's Nikko Montelibano, a very promising 6ft2 shotblocking and rebounding master that we recruited from RTU. He's one heck of a player! Yes, I heard screams from the girls too!
Like an angel coming down from heaven, his aura was really beaming. Everyone was a little or more starstruck at the sight of our Coach Jerry CodiƱera. It's my first time to see him in the flesh! So did a lot of other people from UE. We have a lot of expectations but just do your best Coach! Bring out that Warrior Heart in each of our games!
Thank you to University of the East Recto people for letting me in even if I'm an alumni from UE Caloocan. Hope I won't have hitches next time! Thank you also to Team Manager Executive Director Jesus T. Tanchanco Sr. who gave a small talk with the UE RED TRIBE! Please do expect us in games wherever, whenever!
Good luck to the UE RED WARRIORS! Do your best okay?!
I'm proud to be a Warrior! and I'd die like one! =)
Okay so the UE Red Warriors lost their first two games. How do I tell you guys to step it up?! How do I tell you that there are a few people disappointed; but still support you all the way? What would I feel after seeing you lose another one? I am optimistic don't get me wrong... but if you want to do something about it... NOW would be a good time to do so. I am a full blooded warrior. My Dad was a warrior, my Mom studied and taught in UE a few years back. I have but the highest regards with my Alma Mater and who wouldn't, I got my Computer Engineering degree there too. As far as I'm concerned, I have all the reasons to subliminally support you guys no matter what. These past few games though; when we are all rooting for them till our throat erupts, I somehow felt quite bad about you not winning. I understand you feel the same. This I think is the best time to analyze what went wrong. Why are there no Assistant Coaches available on the bench?[Even my Dad could do it! (^_^) do you need ones who can work pro bono?!] Are we running out of coaching staff? Is administration to blame for on the recent losses? Budget? Gameplay? Or did the other school just played better?! I guess it is bad to put an accusing finger to anyone at this point but I together with the thousands of people who support the UE Red Warriors want to know how we could help. Don't you know your online popularity is phenomenal?! Hayyy.. (-_-)".... You know what guys, I've never considered myself a fan, but a part of the team. I am supporting you no matter what. I'm glad I got that out. Paul Lee is doing a damn fine job, but please Coach, stop experimenting while the game is on. We (including me!) need to help out each other, step up Martinez's fast plays, have the centers go faster up and down the court and get the guards to be lethal on the outside. The rookie free throw shots would have done a mile if the didn't miss that much like the last games. I'm pretty sure the next ones would be a cinch if we all work together. Coach Chiongson and the rest of whats left with your coaching staff, please work on it. I together with the Red Tribe and the THOUSANDS who believe in you; will never back out! You got my support! We may have lost some games but I believe the WAR hasn't been won yet! Let's show them how tough the warriors are!
I had a nice time with the Red Tribe this weekend. We spend the day together watching PBL games of Cossack and Cobra. Unfortunately people from UE were in different teams at that time and I couldn't choose who to root for. James Martinez and Zamar was in Cossack and Paul Lee, Raffy and Coach was in Cobra. So imagine we were all clapping no matter what team was scoring =) just as long as he was from UE we were all rooting for them.
It did not matter that I did not take my picture with them, the feeling of taking their pictures was already phenomenal. I wanted to tell them how good they were in the last season and I wish them good luck this coming season.
Thank you to the people at RedTribe.org... you are such a wonderful bunch of guys and gals! =)
Wow! I just saw a snippet of news in the University of the East website and saw that my Alma Mater's Seniors Basketball team the UE Red Warriors has done it again in Taiwan. They landed First Runner up in the 2009 Ming Dao Cup International Tournament and I was really impressed about their performance. In a short span of time and ending up as the second runner up in the last UAAP season it is time for the Warriors to step up their game amidst heavy competition against other schools. This is a good training ground since they only lost 1 game against Korea which prepared a month in Taiwan for this particular tournament. It was also a nice thing to do since most of them have never been out of the country nor have exposure to International tournaments. This has been a good step UE has done in the past few years, they are gaining experience and even won a couple of thousand dollars. Not bad right?! =)
I wish my team the UE Red Warriors the best of luck this coming UAAP Season and I wish they win that elusive crown we are all hoping for. "Pamantasan ng Silangan, Talunin ang Kalaban"! (University of the East will beat that team!)
Just this Thursday, my friends from the University of the East Red Tribe fought their hearts out in the recent B6BL Tournament. What does B6BL mean you ask?! It's below 6 feet basketball league so there is a height requirement to join these games. It was just the right venue to showcase the talents of my fellow tribe members and true enough they fared quite good in their first game. Although they lost, I am so proud of the guys because they gave every bit of their energy into the game.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all. I hope I get their names right though LOL

Here are the highlights of the tribe at the venue. Photos are courtesy of DOC JAYZ and JULIE of the Red Tribe. Thank you guys and I hope next time we will get that coveted win in the B6BL Games! =)
I know this is just the start. I hope we win the next games and dominate the B6BL games! Congratulations to the Red Tribe Cossack Blue Team! The whole Red Tribe community is proud of you!
It was a night when we forgot about the ill feelings we had towards the other team LOL. It was a night where we share what we have and enjoy each others company. It was a night where food and drinks were served in the premise that we would be able to bond and be more tight if it came to supporting our Alma Mater. It was a great night to reminisce what we have been doing this past season. Thanks also to the kindness of Conrad and his wifey we were able to hold the occasion on their love nest in Filinvest II Quezon City. It was really nice to see friends in a relaxed mood binging on food we brought potluck style together with the tons of chips and alcoholic drinks, there was no stopping the fun we're gonna have on this event. This was the time to celebrate camaraderie and the unexpected 1st Runner Up Finish of the University of the East Red Warriors.
Here are the highlights, check them out!
We did not care if they did not win the championship, we are still proud of their performance because nobody expected them to reach that far. With the heart that they put into every game, it was all worth it! I just wish they could have gone to celebrate good times with us but I think they were just too shy to do so. Anyway, until the next games Red Tribe! Until we meet again!
Okay, the other school won but I won't give them the pleasure of mentioning their team name in my site. But then again the University of the East Red Warriors gave their all in Game 3 but it was not enough to win over the other team. It was okay for me because I have seen their dedication and the effort that they put on the game. Weather they win or lose, it was the way they battled the other school that mattered. I am proud to be a warrior... and they should be too even if they did not win the championship.
They won game 2 with a whopping 20 points so they went through another game just to see who would win the championship so i could not say enough about the effort they gave for the school. Coach Chiongson was also laudable because coming from a league different from this format, he still was able to get the guys into shape to win 1st runner up. They have exceeded people's expectations... for that alone I am proud of them. So for the players, hold your head up high and be proud of what you have accomplished... be proud you are a warrior! =)
It was all heart. That was the weapon that obliterated the hopes of a back to back sweep of the finals game of UE vs Ateneo. Norman Black had a huge problem of maintaining composure with the offensive assault of the UE Red Warriors. I was so proud of the guys a while ago because of that 20 point lead that they had on this game. Imagine, 3 of them had double digits after the game which really spelled the doom for the Ateneo Blue Eagles. Not to mention the salty hands of Jai Reyes from the perimeter area and the childish complaints of the middle eastern guy made when he got nudged a couple of times under the basket. It was good to see people were really challenging him even on that height advantage. The Warriors were pretty much playing a smart game. That is why on Game # 2, they won this one!
Elmer Espiritu and Pari Llagas definitely will not retire their shirts without a fight for the red and white. They showed form and composure and they all got their shots sunk that gave them this huge lead. A winner take all game will transpire on Thursday and I am sure the University of the East Red Warriors will win this one! With the whole UE crowd and the UE Red Tribe nothing is impossible! Go Fight Red and White!
