I've been a fan of Casio since I was a kid. I think I still have my original digital piece at home, but I would probably have to find time to find it, heck it's been years since I haven't used that. These days, I've given my attention to the latest G-Shock lines which are more practical, very tough, enough to fall off a building and still won't break. 

The man who invented it (dubbed as the Father of G-Shock) was here a couple years ago. He told us how he started and why he was solving a pretty simple problem that was hounding a whole enchilada of watch wearers and how they could wear it outdoors, with an active life, one that could be worn everyday. The old ones get scratched, a little too high maintenance and can't be worn when perspiring ensues. Anyway, we all know now how good a G-Shock is. What's even better is that Casio's got their official Shopee store now and watches can now be bought online via the Shopee app.

We took a little tour and checked out their wares, I have to tell you, some of them made me drool. I like the resin bands, how it is shock resistant, and even have 200 meter water resistance. There’s a Garmin for Everyone at Shopee

Athletes and health freaks often think of one brand when it comes to fitness watches and that is Garmin. I’ve heard about this from office mates who run, bike and do triathlons, I asked myself back then if the price was worth it because it does have a premium look and feel when I got to try it out in Singpore a few years back. Top of the line watches always have certain attributes that certainly make it a cut above the rest. Garmin has definitely done a good job providing accurate information on GPS, heart rate, to check your pace, distance and how many intervals you’ve done. It’s also a smart watch which connects to your phone, checks messages, plays music so you don’t have to take out bulky stuff when you workout.

ORIS Showcases Luxury Pieces at Greenbelt 5

ORIS, the well known luxury brand of Swiss watches originated in the town of Holstein. They’ve been available in the Philippines for a couple of years now and during a very classy evening with gentlemen, ladies from the media converged at Greenbelt 5’s event center for a new campaign they’re launching. All with some pretty and finely crafted watches to boot.

Michael Myer ORIS’ Manager for APAC says “Today we want to talk about water, about forests, it’s where our factory is. Nature is inspiring us, it has been there for more than a hundred years. It is about mechanical watch making, it is affordable but very high quality concentrating on machinery to be a step ahead. Today what hasn’t changed is creating time pieces that are nice and of high quality. This has been our ambition from the start (he showed a watch from 1940’s), we are trying to keep that heritage and make sure to keep this identity going. This is our new story called The Big Crown. It can go to streams, automatic, we have very historic designs including our gold diving watches. We also encourage everyone to go our own way, just like our own company. We also have very special projects for the Baikal Lake, the Pacific Ocean, the Great Barrier Reef, also about matters on over fishing (Oris Blue Whale). We want to share the story so we made boxes, back of watches with plastic from PET bottles. This is our Trilogy set! It is what we do, we also did the Tubbataha years ago. Now Go Your Own Way! G-SHOCK Releases #PambansangGSHOCK Watch

G-SHOCK has always been in my wrist since their resonance early 2000s. I was so honored to have met the man who started it all in 2014 when he personally went here for the G-SHOCK World Tour, I'm talking about Kikuo Ibe. The man talked about how he started conceptualizing a timepiece that could weather the elements, survive a drop from 4 floors, then wow the whole world with it. 

They've done exactly that.

Now that they're here in the Philippines, they've not only made their presence felt - but sold quite a lot of these timepieces which we've all grown to love. At that time they even made a limited edition GSHOCK watch for the Philippines, which I've been using since then (Yes I am still using it til now!), worn out but totally still fine from all angles. It's one of the reasons why I always have a GSHOCK because it literally lasts years, very practical and superbly designed.

This year, they've announced the G-SHOCK "Design The National G-Shock Competition" and a LOT of people joined in (about 1,200 individuals) who had background in art direction, product design, graphic design and just about every regular joe who could whip up the best looking GSHOCK that would best represent the Philippines.

Finalists include Aaron Cedric Manaloto, Adrian Delmo, Austeen Manalang, Carlo San Jose, Dennis Inosanto, Jerome Banal and Joshua Panaligan. They were flanked by Mr. Masaki Obu during the event.

The winner is Dylan Dylanco. She is self taught, but is an experienced illustrator who's expertise include branding and graphic design. She has already done a lot of things including other lifestyle brands and sports gears, no wonder she's done quite well no?

Her inspiration for this design is the Filipino's undying spirit, the Filipino tribes from up north to the ones in the south and how we've done fabric weaving through the centuries. If you're a Filipino, you would be a little familiar with the patterns, which in turn would also remind you of indigenous tribal warriors in the country. Their grit, toughness, same spirit that runs through the veins of our country's heroes, comparable to the tough G-Shock watches we wear today.

This is officially the first G-SHOCK made for and designed by a Filipino. Wear them proud as these guys are limited edition. There are only 200 pieces of these out there, count out the number of celebrities who were there that afternoon so that's even a smaller batch.

Father of G-SHOCK will be in Manila for "Shock The World Tour"

This guy right here is Mr. Kikuo Ibe, the Father of Casio's G-SHOCK. One day, he dropped an heirloom watch given to him by his father. He watched it break into pieces, and broke his heart in the process. He envisioned one day that he'll create a timepiece that won't break when dropped. That was how the great G-SHOCK story started.

Since he's the head of Casio's watch design team, it was really hard finding a material that could substantially prevent the watch from breaking. He saw a girl playing with a ball and was inspired by it. He thought of suspending the actual timepiece with air or "space" hence the design of having a hollow structure holding the module whilst it's suspended inside.

In 1983 they came out with the first G-SHOCK model called DW5000C. The watch followed a triple 10 principle which means it's got a battery life of 10 years, 10 bar pressure resistance and can withstand a 10 meter drop too. A lot of others followed suit and made G-SHOCK a byword for timepieces.

 2013 marks G-SHOCK's 30th Anniversary. They have been holding events around the world and yes they call this "SHOCK THE WORLD" among other things. Mr. Ibe will be appearing in Manila to get Pinoys a glimpse of the celebration this February 28. Team Designed, Custom Built: NIXON at SM Premier Aura

Totally NOT related to the former US President, NIXON is a brand who's roots come from Encinitas, CA in 1998. They initially created a small line of team-designed, custom built watches and only sold it exclusively in specialty board sport to small fashion and lifestyle retailers. Intended for surfers and extreme sports athletes, it has become a stalwart of easy, home grown clothing that include select men’s and women’s outfits, leather goods and custom audio headphones now enjoyed even in Asia Pacific. 

The Philippine market still proves to be an important one and they have seen this one of the places in the region to put a stamp on. It was carried previously by dealers but we're so lucky to have a full store that genuinely has stuff from NIXON which we got hold of last week.

They've got pretty DAMN good watches on display.

Tried it on for size and it was the perfect fit. It was a Man's watch and I really felt it was mine right from the beginning. You know that thing where you feel serendipity? Exactly.

Then another one that can pass for a more classy dressed up suit, none of those shiny ones that glisten on spotlights. This is something that could be worn by Agent 007 himself. As part of the Sniper Collection, it just had the right amount of pizazz that men would want in a watch.

It's also got the patented lock that you can only see in NIXON watches. A pretty good way to identify the brand on that alone.

These cost around $ 150- 200 bucks, just do the math in Philippine pesos; but it is mid range which totally sells on me. Great for yuppies that want a good and impressive everyday watch. Then we had more!

These watches are part of the DIP DYE collection. Easy going, not so expensive watches but really good quality. This would be the perfect gift for young guys who want things simple yet still classy. The two to three toned color wonder would look really good even with simple shorts or jeans and a shirt.

There's also the Gunsmith, Karmaflage (which is on sale), Luxe Heritage, Rover Patchwork and other collections that would really fit you. Just check them out on the store and there's surely one that'll fit you.

I also liked some of their bags. This one in the center that's got yellow trims is a must buy item.

The belt and buckles have character. Simple yet the pop of red would likely give it away. Proud to wear NIXON on any suit, jeans or casual wear... it would be nice to have this accessory in your closet.

They also have headphones, mobile speakers that are in different shapes and sizes. It's crisp, clear and loud... just the way you like it at around 30-150 bucks. They also have cases and covers that would fit new phone models because they are complete... it's a lifestyle brand after all and together with your board + bleached hair... you'll look good on the beach and on land. No sweat!

If there's something that I would prefer to get in this store, it's those watches (especially the limited edition ones) and these pieces of clothing! I love those wifebeaters and sweaters!

 I've hand picked two sweaters that would be perfect for men and women. Would I pass as a stylist? =)

It's relaxed, it feels good on the skin and would definitely want you to remember a day in the beach, working out, your boards and those memorable times with friends. If you think it's you, you should never hesitate to wear something that would represent your style and personality. After all, at the end of the day the only thing that would make you happy will be something that you get with your hard earned money and the people who appreciate it around you. It's not expensive, prices are competitive and the brand is world class. What more can you ask for?
