The City of Biñan, Laguna

Thursday, August 12, 2010

I was really looking forward to a very great day of photowalks again with my peers from the D60KREW. The plan was to go somewhere remote but barely near Metro Manila and find places and faces under this li'l old country of ours that we haven't visited yet. We have walked quite a number of places in the South but we never got to see the city of Biñan, Laguna. We always passed by the highway and had never seen it this close. I immediately signed up when the opportunity knocked. Like every walk we had, I was in for a treat!Ms. Bambit Gaerlan contacted people from the city hall to have our permit secured. I was thinking it was only to get us to shoot places where we needed to but lo and behold even our security detail was arranged. I said to myself "Hey! the people are really nice here to even bother and do that!". To say the least I was really impressed about the reception. Once we got down from the decades old PNR Train from Manila, they immediately escorted us to the place we initially decided to start off which is the McDonalds branch along the highway.
First salvo of Group hug @McDO with the D60KREW Photo courtesy of Ms. Bambit Gaerlan (not in photo since she is the one shooting!)

We met with Ms. Roseann Gonzales the Administrative Aide of Mayor Marlyn "Len" B. Alonte-Naguiat and exchanged pleasantries. I was impressed at the way they welcomed us into their town. They extended this much attention to us and had us secured while shooting (hence no worrying about our gears). I never expected it was going to be that grand but hey, I guess people from this place was better receiving people. It's a great trait of Filipinos but we seldom see that anymore even in Manila. I felt really special and it was probably the same with my peers.
That's Ms. Roseann Gonzales (on the left) and the specially happy guy Michael Olino (far right) on the beginning of the walk. This was around 10:00pm if I'm not mistaken.

We lined up initially to get dinner at Mc Donald's since that was in the itinerary. The store manager had us wait on our seats and just got our orders, little did we know it was already paid for by Ms. Roseann Gonzales. That was a big surprise to all of us, I mean... talk about royal treatment huh?! We talked about it a little and decided to do a small payback, we'll let them use some of the images we produce on this walk. They'll probably have all their brochures and posters up soon with them. I'm really glad about the courtesy extended to us just by merely going through documents and a permit, we have the Mayor and her good people to thank for that.
Off we went to the streets of Biñan. It was a little different than when I last saw it (since my Uncle owns a local luxury auto shop I frequently went to in the past though I never got out to town that much) but I guess it was also because we are doing this photo walk in the wee hours of the evening and the morning after. The subjects were old houses, old mansions since Rizal's time and the small quaint homages to the local hero. I also think part of the charm of Biñan is its people. You can't imagine how endearing it was to talk with the locals. They are all friendly; actually I was cringing a little because of the fact that they were friendlier than me. It was like a second breeze to what little things I know about the place. It was nice all in all.
I tested out what I knew in long exposures. It was a must in this photo walk since we didn't have that much light. The wee hours of the morning drew near and there were only a couple of vehicles to shoot at. I had a few shots but I won't be posting them yet (they are still in post processing). The great people of the City hall patiently waited for us to finish our shots.

I guess you are all wondering why I'm not posting any of the great shots from the walk right? I think I already did capture the best ones here. I learned something more special than the sights and places that Biñan, Laguna has... it was it's people. You can put a person in the nicest mansions or greatest creations of God but if you put a man on a simple location and had the traits like of those we met, it's amazing! I felt the greatest treasure that they have in this city was not the Puto Binan(which comes a close second!), or the landmarks, or historical figures, it was them... THE PEOPLE... and I'm sure the Mayor and the people behind the success of our walk knows it.

For everything that you have done for us in Biñan, Laguna... Thank you so much from all of us at D60KREW!

Flip Lens Cover Cracks

I am a little sad. I mentioned a couple of posts ago that I had a problem with my Flip Ultra HD video camera. Yes the glass cover is broken. Imagine this gadget has been with me for a few weeks and there it goes with hair lines on it. I still wanted to do something about it so I went in and got myself a watch glass to have that cover it. But before I do I wanted a way to properly take it off. I'm currently watching DIY videos of same situation scenarios and they ended up okay. I hope it is the same with me too.

I did lend my Aunt this cam so she can film herself speaking in the UN but I think it broke in her baggage. I just don't know what to do with it at first but watching this gave me a little bit wee confidence. I hope it stays working after I get my hands on it. Hmmmm...

Pray for me! Hahahahh!

Blog Level Up!

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Sometimes when I get tired I look at myself in the mirror and see how much time has ravaged this body God has given me. In a nutshell I'm not off to complaining because I probably have been luckier than those who still look like monkeys even after the whole Charles Darwin theory came about. Sorry if I may offend some people but there are really some weird looking ones I see on the streets. Anyway I hope they get to improve in some way, some other time. Personal rant off.

Since I want to find the finest things in life, I'll make this site even better. I have been blogging for quite a while now and the time to level up is inevitable. I can't wait to see more of the changes I want to implement. I have the plans already in writing and if push comes to shove I'll do them all as soon as possible. I've got friends and family reading so I need to do this ASAP. I wouldn't want to disappoint them ye know?!

For all my readers in the blogosphere, thank you too... you have proven to be an integral part of my website's success. I couldn't have done it without you guys!

The changes? You'll see them pretty soon here on my site so don't change that channel! LOL!

=)

Marketing, Advertising Like No Other!

Times are really hard for companies here and around the globe. With the recent financial crisis crippling thousands of businesses; there is a big need for marketing strategies that would be able to pick up the consumer we want to patronize our products and services. I have been doing Programs Management for a couple of years now and I think I may have a lot of things to say when it comes to this certain subject. I know how hard it is to cope with several things on your mind. This includes the recession and the country has not totally solved it. What better way to get it out of your worries than to hire companies that have experts in the industry. You should take a look at institutions like Roar Media. From knowledge, skills and expertise Miami PR has never ever been better!

I checked out several places but I think you of all people should know how aggressive we need to be. This is exactly how they in the Miami advertising sector have proven their worth. They harness technologies like digital communications, search engine optimization, web sites, name it they probably have these social media solutions available for companies who are in dire need of it. If you need someone to help you with these I strongly suggest you get the experts in Miami marketing. After all, they have done an excellent job with their current clients. I'm sure yours won't be a problem at all. Consider people who know what it takes to carry a name with the lion's roar!

Social Network Makes Us Anti Social?!

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

It's one of those days. I guess its about time that I talk about social networks and how it made the world a smaller place. Just like you I once insisted not to join Facebook because I was using Friendster in the beginning(like many Asians as a matter of fact). But look at us now, we didn't even know Friendster still existed right?

Now, we all can't live without it. If you ain't playing farmville or restaurant city or Mafia Wars you'll be considered the loser when everyone else is talking about it. Relationships are now rekindled when you see a long lost friend or relative. Some would even be mad at you at times just because you choose to ignore friend requests and applications that spell ingredients to some dish ha-ha! I guess gone are the days of posting testimonials as we welcome small comments and like statuses huh?!

We even demand to have Internet on our phones 24/7. We subscribe to whole day web services and post statuses by the minute or photos directly. We share links, watch videos, read blogs, comment on s2pid photos for the amusement of another. We receive alerts on email so we don't get left behind. We all know its ohhhh so lame but we still all do it. We connect, find girls, connect again, find prospects, connect again and find people to marry then delete our accounts heheh. Well... almost...

It's so nice to see how we've all gone to social networking but have gone ANTI SOCIAL. We seldom talk anymore, we don't call that much, we get text messages from girlfriends, we get girls the same way, we chat, send PM's, tweet or plurk or whatever social platform just to get the message across. We invented some other form of languag and pretty soon we'll see each other on video with the same site. I wonder why we're doing social networks yet we're being anti social now. We probably will spend more time at home doing nothing than going to the malls and get bigger by the day. Oh I wonder... don't you think this is going to be bad pretty soon? I hope not. I'm a little puzzled... do you feel the same way?! =)

Sorry but I'm Vain!

I wanted to relax a bit and I don't want to go out this weekend. I've been a homebody lately and I think I'm getting the hang of it. I cook for my folks every once in a while and get barbecue on the grill. I spend quite an insurmountable time resting and taking a bath. I always spend an hour or more there nowadays. I'm sure it's the same for some of you too. The bathroom vanities are getting me the fix I need before I go out. It also is a place I spend more of my time these days since I go ultra vain before meeting people. They don't even disturb me when it takes that long because they probably know how much I value the intricacies of doing that to battle aging. Some are skeptical; but hey it wouldn't hurt to do something about it like what I do now.

I appreciate my folks for keeping everything intact at home. If ever I plan to redecorate I'll get some of them on line. I find it easier to buy things on the Internet these days and yes; it's all there too! I'll surely get myself one of those and have my condominium unit designed contemporary or modern. I'm up for it! Are you?!

Reconnecting with KES Batch '91

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Hmmm... where do I start.... well here goes...

I live in a quaint town in the metro called Kamuning. It's comprised mostly suburban and residential houses. The nearest Elementary School is owned by the government; and to tell you honestly its not that appealing to look at that time. I don't have any qualms against Tomas Morato but man even when I was a kid I didn't like going there. My Grandma taught English classes and had duties on the other nearby school. Well it wasn't nearby for a 5 year old kid and since I didn't want to end up on this one, they all decided that I had to be sent to Kamuning Elementary School. I then had lots of Tito's and Tita's... had lots of friends. I did dance troupes, choirs, the works! School made me creative more than I ever wanted. Even if my siblings went to private ones and I stayed there, I guess it did a lot for me. I saw how real people were at those times. I grew up barely knowing what I'm good at but it has equipped me with a lot of things... but what I cherish most was the friendship. It was the first time I encountered other kids than me who were not from the same neighborhood I was in. What's funny is that I'm analyzing my childhood ha-ha!Anyway to make the long story short, yesterday was the first time in 20 years that we got to meet again. The Batch 91 of Kamuning Elementary School and all its cohorts were as excited as I am. It was something I wanted to do since we were all just talking and posting on Facebook most of the time. Even if it was only a handful, I wanted it to start something big. I always dreamed of reconnecting with the past... Just imagining 20 years of stories and lives we had; it was bound to be as big as I thought.

I got an event posted on FB and of course the response was positive. I wasn't worried about the attendance, but anyway; as long as I see some of them I'm good. This is just the beginning and I'm sure once those who are outside of the country or were busy at that time would be envious after seeing the photos. Need I say more?!
I graduated there. Got to high school, college and a job... well a couple of jobs ha-ha! I guess it spelled the 20 years for me. When the day finally came I wanted to be at the venue first so I did my best but John Lloyd beat me to it! Haha! Then after a few short stories, Enclid, Abby and Julius arrived. Sherwin came through the rain. We waited a bit and got RC, Christine and Shiela too. I guess a bit of my dream to see them was comin true... =)

L-R Christine, Lloyd, Julius, Abby, Sherwin, Enclid
RC and Shiela (seated)

Pretty soon the place was filling up. We decided to start the party and got a few more guys and gals to arrive.

(Top) Shiela, Lloyd (L-R) Enclid, Lyn (Warner's wife ^_^), Warner, Rodel, Abby Sherwin, Christine, Gina, Freddie, Maryann, Jerome, Julius, Jon-Jon, RC and Me

We drank a few bottles and ate a few things but what kept us busy most of the time was the laughter and stories. I never imagined how petty and innocent we were back then. And oh how time flies! Some of us look quite the same and some of us look VERY different... but you can't discount one thing... we all still look good. I guess time has been good to us and in fact I wouldn't wanna say how old we are, after all we're all probably the same age haha! I was a little weird in some way because I practically could occupy 1/4 of the photos, I guess I was that big! I was already big when we were kids ^_^.

I did see my closest friends though I never got the chance to talk to them that much this time. I know there will still be more of these gatherings. I want to get to know them more. We've all lived different lives, chose different paths and had been doing a lot to reconnect. It was indeed an evening to remember. It was exactly as I hoped it would be as it made me happy... I hope it was the same for them!

Here's some of the highlights!

It was a fun day for all of us. I'd like to take this part of the post to thank each and everyone who attended this small gathering. I know I'm not much of a planner or organizer but we did have fun and that's what is important. For our classmates who weren't able to come, you saw how much fun we had on this reunion... so try and be there next time okay?! Again thanks to everyone who made this successful!

PS I think everyone got home late after a few rounds of beer in Tomas Morato. Until we meet again! Au Revoir!

One Percent Of Anything

Thursday, August 05, 2010

I'm watching something new now. I guess you kinda get this habit when you are stressed. For some reason it's Korean. I don't have anything against Koreans but I just didn't like MTV stations flooded with all their videos. I wouldn't be changing channels if they were all English but oh boy its all them on Channel V. Unfortunately MTV Philippines closed down via an executive decision last year. It's because of recession and they had to cut down costs. All their regional channels had gone kaput! Anyway, this is really nice and I would like you guys to give it a try and watch 1% of Anything. The plot is kinda good, to tell you honestly I just started watching it and been having a good time watching it. I probably would recommend it to my friends too. The site I'm watching it from is Mysoju which has Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese movies/series all over it. If you plan to visit check out this particular series because its funny and exciting. It also has a hint of love story and comedy which is the common Filipino flick formula. Maybe you should watch it in the afternoon too.

It's a breather from those series you often watch in primetime. Definitely better produced. I don't know about our capabilities because the last time I saw a Filipino movie we can't even get a person to fly properly like Superman in the 70's right? What a weird country we have... anyway please take time to watch it I think it'll give you something to think about watching when it gets dubbed in Filipino soon. It'll probably show up in our TV sets I betcha!

High Definition like No Other!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of faceVsion Technology USA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I've been so lucky to belong in this era where communication seems so easy. In a day and age where globalization has forced some of my friends and family for work out of the country; I still try my best to contact them through the Internet. This medium has saved me a lot of money but you have to understand that it's quite hard to get video across every time. Sometimes it's choppy and a decent stream would get you digitized on some occasion. I don't complain though because if you think about it; relatively it's still free.

I am a gadget freak and a geek. I often try some hardware for testing on my site too. I was thinking something like this one would get my video do better when using SKYPE. I've seen a couple similar ones like the LOGITECH PRO 9000 and MICROSOFT CINEMA but they didn't compare in HD quality over the World Wide Web and just perform well on a local location. That really defeats the purpose right?! Good thing there's a greater gear from TOUCHCAM N1 that utilizes H.264 CODECS. I should know because I worked on VOIP services too! It's like my brother from way there in Europe is just around town. It's way crisp and clear! Their on line store www.shop.facevsion.com is now running a back to school promotion with $10 off any purchase, using the promo code of FVTBTS2 while checkout. The promotion ends 09/30/’10. Isn't faceVsion just awesome!

Always remember this FV touchcam N1 outperformed the other brands. As a matter of fact, FV TOUCHCAM N1 is the first Internet streaming true HD webcam for Skype video calls. If you are skeptic; I dare you give it a try! FV TOUCHCAM is available through their awesome site shop.facevsion.com and other value added partners so what are you guys doing staring at the photos on my site! Get them ordered on the faceVision on line store and shipped now! You'll never regret it! Get the FV ExpressCombo so you could save a lot too!
