A Taste of the SMB Oktoberfest Party

he mood was crazy as folks went to Okada for the kick off of SMB Oktoberfest which was a 2 day event last September 20. This isn't an ordinary day because they are also celebrating their 135th year, a milestone for the homegrown brand San Miguel Brewery Inc. 

At the launch, they had performers like Rico Blanco, Lola Amour, December Avenue, my favorite boy Maki, Arthur Nery, Brownman Revival, The Juans, The DAWN, Autotelic, The Cohens, Paprika, DWATA, Carousel Casualties, Magiliw Street, It All Started in May, Sean Archer, Acapellago, DJ Chelsea and Rammy. Executives such as SMB President Carlos Berba, the action superstar Coco Martin, Okada's Vice Chair Takako Okada,  and several dignitaries joined in the fun and celebrated with overflowing new brews such as the Pale Ale, Fruity Wheat Ale, Summer Ale and the Specialty Lager (which everyone enjoyed). They also had the Magician Efren Bata Reyes, Django Bustamante, and the San Miguel Beermen who did several exhibition games and fan interaction, something you will look forward to on SMB Oktoberfest day.

Top local bands are slated to headline the actual Oktoberfest festivities which include Rocksteddy, Sun kissed Lola, The Collars, Progeny, Parisukat,  Urbandub, December Avenue, Missing Filemon, Nikolay, and Kuwako. It will also happen on October 18 in Paseo de Sta Rosa in Sta Rosa Laguna, then on October 31st at the Queensland Manor in Cebu City.

San Miguel To Start Oktoberfest with Grand Party

've been so lucky to have been able to celebrate a lot of parties, but the San Miguel Oktoberfest parties are on another level. They're marking their 135th Anniversary this year, and that means we get to enjoy a full blown rock fest... at no less than the Okada Manila grounds in Paranaque City.

This will be a 2 day event and will happen on September 20-21 where you can enjoy some of the country's top acts, tons of food and your well loved San Miguel beverage to fit right in your hand. They're going to fill the venue with it, to prove once again that there's a winning global brews in the midst, plus a multitude of dishes prepared by restaurants like Cibo, Wolfgang Steakhouse, Las Flores, and a whole lot more. Yes, you can be sure there's going to be a lot of pairing. 

 


Music on the other hand will be taken on stage by Rico Blanco, December Avenue, artist Arthur Nery, popular band Lola Amour, the folks from Brownman Revival, iconic The Dawn, Autotelic, The Juans, The Cohens, DWTA, Carousel Casualties, Over October, It All Started in May, Magiliw Street plus more acts happening that day. The appearance of their very own San Miguel pro basketball team, Billiard gods Efren Bata Reyes, Django Bustamante (who will play too btw!), will be expected. 
 
They might join the party too. There will be tons of San Miguel merch that you can avail on these 2 nights, so make sure you get enough shopping money to enjoy that. SMC Celebrates 135 Years with Commissioned Artwork by Francis Nacion

In 1890, San Miguel was born. They began expanding to 70 countries and has never stopped winning the hearts of consumers too. It's been 135 years, and this 2025 the mighty brew of Manila has been a symbol of Filipino pride. They're launching a limited edition can together with artist Francis Nacion.

Francis was inspired by close family ties, friendships and to mark this occasion, a painting was commissioned to showcase culture, heritage, and togetherness.

Ice Seguerra performed with the cast of WALANG ARAY as a treat for patrons and media who covered the event.

This is the artwork that was unveiled that evening, done by Francis Nacion. This will don the actual San Miguel cans.

Carlos Verba the SMC President says "We would like to thank Francis for the impressive piece of art that he did in collaboration with SMB. 2025 marks the celebration of our 135th year, we have sustained to become a cultural icon, including Joya, Bencab, Alcala, and it depicts how ingrained we are in culture. It's a long way back, and it ceases to amaze me how we were able to go through time when Rizal was still alive. I counted years, including all the occasions that we would be part of. Globally we were there. Most technology were not yet even thought of, but we already had San Miguel. In 1930 we were already being exported. In the 39's we were also in the US, HK and Shanghai. If you ask the old timers, they would think they were a local brand, but it is a Filipino brand. Even in Spain we had it, still is one of the leading brands in UK and the EU, hard to convince them that it started here. They all trained in Angeles in the Philippines. We were ahead by 100 years versus some of the leading brands today. We are also in UAE and in South Korea. We are present in 7000 islands, Pale Pilsen was born together with C3rv3sa N3gra. It has grown to now San Mig Light, the flavored beers, the 10 percent Red Horse, we are developing more in the coming years.

He adds "In addition, SMB is not just brewing it, but making sure it's or high quality. We are the most awarded Filipino brand and we will make sure to achieve greater heights. We will achieve our goals."

Ginebra San Miguel Celebrates 190 Years with Archangel Reserve

Everyone was in a celebratory mood when we arrived at the ballroom of Novotel Araneta City. To mark Ginebra San Miguel's 190th Anniversary, they had us experience heritage, culture and the good things they whip up at their plants all these years.

Outside was a plethora of memorabilia, including age old bottles they use to contain their products, and how it evolved all through the years. While undoubtedly knowing its Filipino roots, the technology and corporate beginnings have all started in Manila in 1834. It was family owned, then spread throughout the country via major cities. It started a tradition, and products became high quality yet remained affordable. From their Ginebra San Miguel, GSM line, Premium Distilled, Antonov, Anejo Gold, Primera Light, Vino Kulafu, it became the most diverse subsidiary for products through San Miguel Corporation.


The event had a theatrical performance all throughout the night explaining the reason why the company has remained productive, through innovation and continue to become an integral part of Filipino celebrations for almost 2 centuries. The event was also graced by Ginebra San Miguel executives, celebrity endorsers like Boss Toyo, Mikee Quintos from Sparkle, and Attorney Oliver Moeller. Later in the evening, Nik Makino went up on stage and performed for everybody to celebrate #WorldGinDay. He's also a part of the endorsers tapped for this year, and he's mighty proud how his music and the countless Filipinos that made it viral on TikTok. He said he owes much of his success to the people who believed in him, and gives advice to only do it in legal age + and moderately.

Add to that the new Archangel Reserve Premium 1 Liter bottle (not yet available to the market, maybe soon!) that's in Emerald Green. This is to celebrate 190 years of the brand. Congratulations to the men and women behind Ginebra San Miguel as you celebrate more years in the industry!

A Decade of UNIQLO in the Philippines

Had so much fun yesterday at the UNIQLO Flagship store in Glorietta 5 in Makati City. Press, Vloggers, Bloggers and Influencers were treated to first dibs on how they celebrate 10 successful years in the Philippines. While we were there, I was one of the few people who got to join games as they asked hints of the new collection they're releasing to commemorate the occasion.

Their thrust is having a UT collection that's ICONIC. They collaborated with brands that have been in the lives of Filipinos, because of course, they are LIFEWEAR. They then announced that the THE BRANDS UT PILIPINAS include JOLLIBEE, SAN MIGUEL BEER, NATIONAL BOOKSTORE and SELECTA. Much of them had the official logos of these brands, Jollibee had the bee logo in the front left side, San Miguel Beer had the San Miguel Pale Pilsen label on the black shirts. The one for National Bookstore had pockets with the classic red and white stripes design of the old National Bookstore logo. Then Selecta was a bit more colorful putting the actual Selecta trike with words TENENENN a couple times, a thing that these machines play when they're out on the streets and getting kids sweet treats these days! Which one takes your fancy?

They are also doing a lot of promos using the Uniqlo app so make sure you download that as well. They have showed me a few CSR projects they do with re-used fabric from cuts made on alterations of jeans in the store. They sell them to local women who sew and buy the product back as bags, they were awesome looking! So really, there's no waste happening with this clothing brand.

Thank you to the good people from UNIQLO whom we were able to spend our afternoon with. I like the new UT shirts you came out with as you celebrate 10 years in the country, that's no small feat! Congratulations!

San Miguel Generations

The last scene of this party was with The Dawn so I intently listened to them because I have adored their music since the 80's. Not that I lived through that era but I really enjoyed their music together with other OPM bands who struck gold in the industry. Back then, I saw people holding a beer bottle or two, a plate of adobo peanuts and enjoying a grand time in beerhouses which was a common sight, your fathers probably we're there too.



A few days ago, San Miguel released two videos depicting the 70's and the other showing how Millennials do it to this day. YouTuber Superman Kimpoy Feliciano, Sabado Nights Girl Yna Raymundo and The Dawn's lead vocalist Jett Pangan told us all about it and voila! We didn't know that the two videos had a connection, if you play it side by side, and listen to the music, you will be surprised how they designed it to be meant to be played like that.. like whoa!





Their brand cry this year just means whatever generation you're in, you still have a connection, we all have to celebrate that instead of talking about our differences. It's not a world of who's better, we both have our own good thing going on, and that should be the only thing that matters. We learn from the past, but we shouldn't discount what's good in this generation. Go find these nice things with a friend and play the videos side by side too, you'll enjoy it like we did.


Oh by the way, they also got me to hoard the Street Fighter/King Of Fighters arcade game during the event, they tried to beat me for hours but nobody won against me, I guess I still have it haha!


You should consider picking up a bottle after office hours, you deserve the break to celebrate what's good today.

Ginebra Introduces Myrtle Sarrosa as New GSM Calendar Girl 2018

It's that time of the year where popular brand Ginebra San Miguel announces their much awaited Calendar Girl. Last year we were at the edge of our seats with vixen Kim Domingo. Now they're going a bit more millenial with PBB alumni and cosplayer extraordinaire Myrtle Sarrosa. Judging by the looks of it, I think the shots were done by cosplay photographer Jay Tablante. These characters are all original.



We had our first calendar girl in 1988 and some super angels in the 80's. We hope before that announcement, you get to enjoy the Ginebra San Miguel concoctions as we go on with the program. - Noli Macalalag, the GM of Ginebra San Miguel




Ron Jay Molina the Marketing Manager of Ginebra San Miguel says "We are celebrating a lot of things, new things, fresh ones, even the millenials. I want you to discover three things we'll reveal tonight. One is where a calendar is involved, the heavens, and even 7-11. Thank you to our dealers, the marketing team, our friends from media and the internet. Please sit back relax and enjoy a GSM Blue."

Then they unveiled three things:

First up is the Calendar Girl for 2018 and she came down like a ball of fire. 




Then they showed Myrtle Sarrosa's 5 calendar designs.

One is the Iconic Angel costume, the cyber chick for GSM Blue, the Illusionist for Primera Light Brandy, Forest Enchantress for Vino Kulafu, and the Lady Boss to represent it all.

Then for GSM Blue, they are targetting the millenials. This generation is unique, they demand so much more out of life, more adventure, it's about mixing it, to make it fresh, new flavors that would make life a little more exciting. They are launching #MixForMore. Myrtle Sarrosa invites you all to celebrate life because YOLO! These are the new epix mixes GSM BLUE MARGARITA which you just need to chill and serve to your friends, and the second one is the GSM BLUE GIN POMELO, a favorite among Filipinos now made easier. Still, all you need to do is just chill, and serve. That easy.

These three announcements would be something that now millenials will relate to. So now you've got things easy, you have her to see on calendars the whole 2018, you have these drinks available tomorrow November 8 in all 7-11 stores nationwide!

Drew and Iya Starts Home Foodie Season 3 on May 15

You've been waiting for this I'm sure because the last two seasons have been very successful as ordinary people have learned a thing or two in this show. Home Foodie is now on Season 3 which will premier this May 15, 2017. Of course they will bring back husband and wife team Iya Villania-Arellano and Drew Arellano and celebrity chefs Llena Tan Arenas, RJ Garcia and Rene Ruz. This time, they'll be taking on what they call Madalicious Meals which YOU can prepare at home. This means they'll be featuring 26 full recipes that can be prepared quick fast and easy without compromising quality even if it's home cooked food. 



Mind you, they have planned to include mostly 5 ingredients which is mostly seen in usual pantries which can be prepared in 4 steps using quality San Miguel Purefoods Products. If you miss a show, don't worry though because aside from the episodes on TV they'll be launching an app called Home Foodie Madalicious Meals Mobile App which you can download on the App Store and Google Play complete with 60 second cooking demos, meal plans, prep tips that is also being featured on the show, so you can view at your convenience any time of the day.

Drew, Iya, 3 Chefs for San Miguel Pure Foods Home Foodie Season 2

I love food, I love cooking and I'm a foodie.



This June 13, the second season of Home Foodie will make you relive your passion for food and how enormous your love is for cooking in your own kitchen all over again. Using world class San Miguel Purefoods products, you'll get to enjoy the company of Drew Arellano, Iya Villana and the three chef's while you try and cook their easy to follow, easy to do recipes while you are in your own kitchen. 



Drew did so good during season 1 and made men and women feel how easy it is for newbies to spend time in the kitchen. You'll get to discover more about yourselves, your ability to whip up realy good meals even when you're busy. Iya will also be guiding novice cooks like herself so you could at least cook for your husbands well when the time comes. She's practically going to do it live while you're watching the show, learning together with you since she's a little new at this. She's probably going to ask the same questions as you would do since she's just starting to cook.

You'll also be guided by San Miguel Purefoods culinary center experts such as Chef Llena Tan Arcenas, Chef Rne Ruz and Chef RJ Garcia in your journey as legit Home Foodies. Now remember, the show starts this June 13, 2016. It's Mondays thru Fridays right after Unang Hirit on GMA.
