Immersive, Revealing and Brilliant Storytelling: “Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence"

Tuesday, May 12, 2026

If there's a certain time to tell a story, it is NOW.  When we got to see an episode of “Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence" a few days ago, I really felt uneasy. Fact of the matter is, their story based on real life. When I saw the numbers they put in on the scenes of folks who perished during those times, they weren't simply putting in statistics, but real lives, it could be someone's son, father, brother, uncle, friend, and the manner they got eliminated was certainly a crime against humanity no doubt, but Mr. Ian Veneracion dubbed this as non political, I tried so hard to see it that way, but I get where he is coming from.

In a way, this six part series main objective is to spark conversation. I guess they wouldn't be able to serve it's purpose if it is just going to take sides in this highly pointed topic.

Director and creator Shugo Praico says "We did this because when we were conceptualizing the story, we felt the characters and those they represent should be heard globally. This is a critical period in our time, it needs to be seen. We believe in Filipino talent, and how we tell stories. This is an opportunity to introduce our actors, in a bigger setting. There will be an announcement soon, and we hope you see what's good in this series (they're still looking for an apt platform), but we need to hear your thoughts on the material. I think the story, the root of this film, it's very Filipino. What we want people to feel is the urge to have a conversation, it's where one can understand, to heighten the thought process, to become better people."

Ian says "When I read the script, I felt I really had to be part of this, in particular as this involves our people, history and our humanity. As an actor, my job is to go through that life and make memories out of it. I hope a lot of people see it especially those outside the country. It raises a lot of questions , and I hope this triggers better policies."

Jane added "My character had to fight for something, and that's what I needed to do in orde to prepare with the role."

Ms. Yayo says "We needed to ask a lot of questions to find out who we are, it's more of mental preparation. Director Shugo is different, they let you work freely and trust you to interpret it well according to the treatment you want to do. He appreciates that, sees our efforts but doesn't just leave us do things without reason."

Here's more of the talk back session after the screening:

Although not there during the screening, Harvey Bautista by the way is also in this series and he did a super good job playing the role of one of the victims. HE WAS AMAZING to say the least and should be one of the performances you would want to look forward to.

We also asked about our villains/character actors because I've always felt they're not just doing things mechanically... Ryan Eignemann and Joem Bascon mentioned how it comes with experience to be able to do that. True enough, they're doing their characters with emotional depth (which you'll see in future episodes too).

This was made like a movie from any standard, but I heard how they preferred to tell the story in a series format because they wanted the needed elements included. The story was just too good to tell and cut off, so they'd rather show everything instead. It's also immersive, meaning much of the exhaustion, running, walking will be felt by the viewer. It was made with that in mind so make sure you get to watch it once they decide on the platform soon!

Jasmine Curtis Topbills My Fair Lady on TV5!

Friday, September 11, 2015

TV5's premier actress Jasmine Curtis was just a little shocked last week when Brian Poe Llamanzares suddenly appeared after the press conference of her latest show - the remake of Korea's My Fair Lady. Apparently, Brian had the hugest crush on Jasmine after seeing her on a billboard in Katipunan Avenue back when he was still studying in Ateneo De Manila University. Jasmine was actually also studying there but they didn't get the chance to meet as she was a few batches ahead of him. The cute son of Presidential hopeful Grace Poe said it was his chance to get to know the girl of his dreams and he didn't hesitate doing it uttering "It's now or never!" complete with a bouquet of about 2 dozen roses. He's an accomplished professional host, worked for several NGO's and his Mom's office. He's also ADMU's Mr. School of Management in 2010, putting a stamp on his good looks. He's hoping to get to know Jasmine's family first and of course, court her in the process. He hopes this starts something really good.

Here's what transpired during the presscon, watch it on HD:

In this show, Jasmine will be having 2 leading men in the persona of GMA 7's Luis Allandy and TV5's hunky actor Vin Abrenica. Vin mentions his small sulking has completely disappeared and says he's very glad about this great break. He also dispels rumors of conflicts with TV5's current golden boy Mark Neumann as he's treated like a brother says Vin. Vin will be working hard so TV5 won't be sorry they gave him this project, it might be challenging but he's going to do his job and promises not to disappoint them. Luis was loaned from GMA and says he's here to do the project and as Madame Wilma Galvante mentioned, they won't hesitate getting other actors from different stations if they'll make the program better. They need artists to fit the role and Luis is an example of that.

This is also the comeback of Marjorie Barretto on TV and says she's both excited and nervous because it's been a while since she's been here. She had a short moment during the event where she vented her disappointment about what is being said with the media and what her ex husband is doing in real life (says it's completely different stories). In fact, she really took time explaining that without going into details because they've both been given a gag order already - of which she's a little heated why the other party is trying to make efforts, trying to look good publicly.

My Fair Lady also stars the lovely Chanel Morales, Yayo Aguila, Joross Gamboa, Jenny Miller, Katrina Legaspi, DJ Durano and the one and only Eddie Gutierrez. My Fair Lady will show on September 14, that's this Monday on the happiest network in the country, TV5!

The Borrowed Wife: Exciting Scenes in GMA Afternoon Primetime

Monday, May 12, 2014

I will have to admit. I used to watch this show everyday because of the story and everything but I stopped because it stressed me out. I couldn't concentrate anymore. Each scene in this series would either have someone hitting a lady or gripping her against the wall or throwing her around like a rag doll. Though obviously, the scenes were all well thought and executed for it to affect me that well. I didn't ask or talk that much during the blogcon because they might find out I'm a fan! LOL! It deserves the praise and ratings it's getting though and I applaud them for that!

Rafael Roselle who plays Rico Santos in the series even sang a few songs to get us a little comfortable. Also in the show are lead stars Camille Prats who plays Sophia/Maria, Charee Pineda as Maricar, TJ Trinidad as death by eye color Earl and Pauleen Luna as Tessa. Other stars such as Yayo Aguila, Sherilyn Reyes, Kevin Santos, Lou Sison, Diego Castro, Red Bustamante, Zarah Mae Deligero, Jojit Lorenzo and Ms. Caridad Sanchez are also in the show. They are currently troubled about who's who because apparently, news that the reconstructive surgery about the fake Maricar was out!

Camille says almost all the scenes in this series was tough to portray. Gravity was trying to pull them together but ethics was keeping them apart because they needed to do the right thing. She married TJ in the hopes of proving her love but turns out she was actually fooled into the situation... and she didn't like it when she knew about it. Her favorite line in the series is "Sa akin ka na lang ulit Rico" because she had to say that a lot of times. Rafael Roselle remembers the kid in the series who says "I love you ten times, ten thousand times!" which he thinks was so cute and endearing. Tj on the other hand loved the statement "Akin ka!" stemming from his role who's got an obsession with Sophia played by Camille Prats. They also had a very Hollywoodish car chase scene which you also should watch out for because they were so ecstatic telling us about it. Rafael compares it to the running scene in Pearl Harbor which he thinks is one of the highlights. They will also in the end find Cecilia, is she Maricar? Well, you have to find out by watching the series, all afternoon on GMA!
