Celebrate Mothers Day with NOVA VILLA, CES QUESADA, FYANG and JM: "PICNIC" A Tagalized Korean Film Released by Nathan Studios

Wednesday, May 07, 2025

While the rest of the world is happening, there's this Korean film called PICNIC that's taking the theaters by storm. This is a film directed by Kim Yong-gyun and will be showing today (May 7th) in theaters nationwide.

We were at Gateway Mall last night to cover the premiere night, and the lobbies were filled with JMFyang fans and movie goers who were screaming on top of their lungs when they saw stars on the red carpet. We were able to record the media conference before the screening, so please enjoy!

The film is certainly a tear jerker. It revolves around the characters Eun-Sim played by Na Moon-hee (voice dubbed by Ms. Ces Quesada) and Jun Geum-soon played by Kim Young-ok (voice dubbed by Ms. Nova Villa) and their friend Tae-Ho played by Park Geun-hyung (voice by Kuya Bodjie Pascua). The younger version of Eun-Sim and Tae-Ho was dubbed by Fyang Smith and JM Ibarra.

They are a rowdy bunch despite the number of octogenarians included in the cast, and there's certainly no shortchanging of "landi" if you could say that out loud. Super happy about scenes where they were able to throw shade at each other. It didn't matter if their backs would hurt at each turn, they will tell you a spade is a spade even if it hurts your feelings, even if it means bringing back the past. The conversations were so amusing that when you're about to cry, they'll insert humor in between so you would giggle about the situation. I think this was clearly done that way to make sure it wouldn't be heavy and cerebral.

I super love the banter between Ms. Nova Villa and Ms. Ces Quesada. It was a good decision to provide Filipino dubbing for it as it felt a lot like home. No need to rush reading subtitles to understand the story because it could easily be understood in cinema audio. Should you watch it? DEFINITELY. I bet you'll find the story more apt for the children rather than for the Grandmas or Mothers involved in it. They'll learn a lot about how to go through the intricacies of love for family. It's a gem, and if you find KDramas so good for watching in the corners of your room, go do this in the cinemas because the experience hits certainly different.

Congratulations to CEO Ria Atayde and COO Ms. Sylvia Sanchez who knew right from the start that this would be a good thing to bring in Philippine shores.

Less Stress, Smart Washing and Caring for Mom with the TCL C20

Friday, May 12, 2023

Mothers Day is around the corner and I bet, you're already trying to rack your head thinking of what to give your Mom this year. After all, she took care of you since Day 1, fed you til you got so big and get yourself a job. Does your clothes smell nice? Chances are, your Mom washed your clothes right? She must have been working hard accomplishing tasks on her day job, breaking her back again at home putting food on the table, then either hand washing your clothes for a couple of hours. You want to make her life less stressful? Why not get her a new TCL C20 Front Load Wash Pro?

It's a pretty good investment. It's big as it's got 10.5 Kg capacity. You can also dry clothes up to 7 Kg. It uses a honeycomb crystal drum, does Air Wash, Steam Wash, Fast Washing, or opt for drying in low temperature. It also can do soft drying and is equipped with a safety lock so it's not going to be dangerous for kids and their apos. These days, they also need something that's energy efficient (with the high cost of electricity) and this one has a DD Inverter Motor in it, isn't that great?!

This TCL Washpro C20 also has a Dryna Heat Inverter, something so smart that it automatically adjusts the heat needed to dry your clothes. Best of all, you've got lower maintenance because it has a Drum Clean function which uses hot water inside to clean (after every wash) and make sure it cleans clothes thoroughly every time. It also scrubs each part of the textile because it's designed the honeycomb crystal drum that way. It's pretty tough on dirt, but still take care of the delicates. You'll also see less clothes bound for ironing as the steam puts less wrinkles on your shirts, pants, just about anything you put on the washer.

The TCL C20 Wash Pro certainly would be something your mom would love to see gift wrapped and all when she comes home from a long work day. If you want to know more about it, check out tcl.com/ph/en because there's a lot more information there. Ciao!

Love Her with PayMaya This Mother's Day

Sunday, May 10, 2020

Small things matter.

Mother's day celebrations are still in full swing but I'm sure with the current lockdowns in Metro Manila you're still thinking of ways to celebrate it with the most precious woman in your life, your Mom.

PayMaya has proven useful especially when we are shying away from using cash in establishments - now that we don't want to spread the virus, I used it to pay for small things that would make my own Mama happy. PayMaya is a partner of Mercury Drug so for her maintenance medicine and small groceries, you can use it in their counters without whipping out cards and stuff. The app has a QR code option that's being accepted in their branches. You can get cashback too.

You can also use PayMaya in restaurants. I ordered lunch and paid for it in advanced so Mom can get rest from cooking the whole day. You too can do small things to make Mother's Day memorable.

Mister Donut Honors Moms Nationwide!

Saturday, May 12, 2018

Geeze, look at what popular brand Mister Donut did on their stores this week. Mothers Day is just around the corner and what fitting way to pay respect to the greatest women in our lives but to actually change the name of the store on this special day. Mister Donut has been always synonymous with the Bavarian variant of their donuts and the famous brewed coffee, but they know how to just make these women cry a bit, or amused at the sight of their own logo changing!

Yes! It's for only these few special dates that they'll be changing the store's name into MISIS DONUT so they could get to make your Mom special. This is their way of giving thanks to all the work they've out in raising you, those moments they nurture your growth, hone you into the person who you are today. The perfect partner for Mister Donut, is MISIS DONUT.

Now go see these special signs happen in their Trinoma store, the one in Greenhills and more. I'll be bringing home dozens of them for my Mom, and our loved ones... you should too.

Bring Belgian Bites, the Throwback Donuts (special ones just for a few months) are just waiting for you in their stores. Go buy some before they run out!

My 2 Mommies This Mothers Day

Saturday, May 05, 2018

I am one of the 4 Million who watched the endearing trailer of My 2 Mommies, Regal Films' offering this Mothers Day. The film outfit has always been dishing out really good films during this season and this one is a little different. The signs of the times dictate a family that doesn't just comprise of the usual Mom, Dad and son/daughter. This time, Paolo Ballesteros plays the role of Manu, a gay man who had his best friend (played by Solenn) drunk one night and didn't know he had a son with her years after. Out and proud, had a relationship, but how would everything turn out now that he's a Mother - yeah he consider himself one.

Paulo started our blogcon by greeting everyone and said “Thank you sa pagpunta ninyo, hope you help us promote My 2 Mommies!"

Eric says “This is a romantic comedy, but it stems from the story of Paulo’s sudden situation of having a kid. There are only a few people who can do Drama and Comedy, Paulo is one of them. Maricel is really missed so they will see the old Maria in this film, it’s welcoming, you’ll feel she’s back. I thought Solenn was a different person, I have never seen her act and in this project, she’s really different, very professional, she has timing and she’s not a diva... so down to earth. This boy oj the other hand is special, they had french lines and when they started I knew he was really good and this might be his first movie, but he’s really good. He was born to be an actor. I am glad to get a PG rating, I can’t wait for the people to see this movie.”

Paolo says “Eric is good, he is an artist so he knows the scenes and how the public will be moved in one scene. He moves fast, he justifies additional scenes and we finish fast. Solenn is very professional; she ain’t a diva, you could see how she wants to perfect her tagalog. She also makes an effort to do the punchlines and she is very natural, very tita. Mothers day needs stories like these and I hope even if I’m not in drag people and families would appreciate this. It’s very light, but it has heart. Manu doesn’t just relate to my situation, he’s almost like me - I am so scared about how real it has become. Mothers have always been about talking a lot, but you know it is for your own good, every time with them is precious. I may have wanted to also have more moments with my daughter but I feel her mother also needs that as well, we do what we can do and make the time we spend a better one. To have a family? Maybe we’ll just cross the bridge when we get there. We might not have done a workshop with Marcus but when we shot on the first day, he was loved like a real son. It wasn’t hard at all.”

Marcus says “Paolo is very chill, even when he’s mad he still makes it a point to be so nice to people. I had fun doing this, I’m a kid that is mature, but only have 2 Moms and 2 Dads and I think that is happy.”

This would certainly be a good thing to watch with your family, although a bit controversial and out of the original context of a regular family, it only means that it doesn't take a genius to know that you only need to be a good person to be a good parent. Love for a son, it's insurmountable.

Make sure you watch the film on Mothers day, mother lily says so!

Aiai Delas Alas Stars in Regal Films Mighty Yaya

Monday, May 08, 2017

Mothers Day has always been an important part of Regal Films as they have launched several movies with this theme and this year, they're bringing in a different twist. Aiai Delas Alas is now starring in a feel good comedy movie that will tell you about the life of a Mighty Yaya. Yaya is a term that they give Nannies in the Philippines and it has been centuries that families always had one - especially if Mothers an Fathers couldn't give service for their childrens needs. They are like second Moms and somehow, they give unconditional love much like a regular mom would do so in a sense, Yayas are mothers too.

Direk Joey Reyes promises this to be a whole lot of fun, but with a heart. You'll get to see the stories of people who take care of the family and even see the hardships that people go through when they are OFW's. He utters "Yayas have always had a soft spot with me, I didn't have one but we have kasambahay which is mightyly still the same. They love the children, they raise them as their own. I get broken hearted when I have helpers that are education graduates and say that they will earn more than teach in the province. The Mighty Yaya's power is from the heart, she loves the kids not just because it's a responsibility, but because they are mothers too, and that takes a lot for a person."

"Peachy and Kevin will make Mighty Yaya's life miserable so make sure you're ready for the naughty pranks they will do regularly on the movie. I also had a yaya but she wanted to have a family, we let her go but I really miss her, I will cherish the memories spent with her. Even if she's sick, they still take care of me. That's something I keep in my heart."

"I thought I was going to be intimidated, but she's so down to earth and fun because she makes it a point to do jokes even if the scenes require us to cry. Prepare to get your nose bleeds because I really enjoy working with her. I hope yoi all get to see the film because we worked hard to finish it." -Sofia Andres

Zoren Legaspi adds "As an actress, she's very good. She's not a diva, a good follower with Direk and she's easy to be with. I had a yaya too, since I was a teenager and now they are taking care of our kids too. We always have long staying yayas and it's only a change of career that makes them leave if ever."

Ms Aiai Delas Alas says "I have a Yaya too and she's my peg, I was loved and that's exactly what you'll be seeing in this film. Tangin Ina was close to my heart because I got to do everything there, but this one is very close too because she's in a different situation, but they all take care of the kids. I needed to experiment, I gave my all on Area because that's also about a mom. I draw strength with real life situations because it's what the role asks for, I'm glad to have gotten the opportunity to do that and win an award. Mighty Yaya is like cartoons, fun for kids and it is that type of comedy that the masses wants, that's what we give them too. My Yaya is now taking care of my Mom, I remember how she molded me to pray to Mother Mary in Baclaran. I do my best in every movie, getting accolades is just a bonus and I feel blessed getting that."

Mighty Yaya will be shown starting May 10 and will have their premier night today at SM Megamall Cinema 10. You should drop by to see your favorite stars. This is under Regal Films.

Thanks to SM for the Mother's Day Movie!

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

As a treat to Moms on Mother's  Day, SM invited us bloggers, media and a couple of really great Moms to watch the premier of Mother's Day at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. It's the one that stars Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis plus a lot of other hollywood bigshots in a light drama, funny, situational comedy movie that's designed to make your Mom loved more. You see, it tells us about unusual circumstances, different ways on how to deal with parents, our Moms, and how you wouldn't really break the bond that ties us together.

The stellar cast wasn't actually a distraction. You'll appreciate that they are there despite of their stature and generally, it's a feel good movie. This was also made by the same director that brought you Pretty Woman which was a hit in the late 80's (I think) so you kinda get that vibe of it concentrating mostly on the story rather than the individual characters and how they ended up where they are right now.

For me, it was good, a thing that you should bring your Moms to if you forgot to bring them out of your house when it was Mothers day. After the movie, go to a fancy restaurant, or Jollibee then have that well needed bonding time with Mom. Let her shop a little in SM if that's allowed, we all love our Moms and they deserve this!

A Special Afternoon at Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay

Friday, June 12, 2015

Had the pleasure of visiting Discovery Country Suites in Tagaytay City a couple of weeks ago with my Mom. As you may have seen on the Discovery Country Suites Facebook Page, I have dedicated a few words for her and I didn't even tell her it was posted there publicly. Discovery Country Suites also had a surprise in mind so when I asked my Mom to free her schedule a couple of days before that, I didn't tell her what it was all about. So when she went there and met the warm people of Discovery Country Suites, she didn't really know what she was in for.

Discovery Country Suites

While they pulled her off and gave her a huge bouquet of flowers, a luxurious massage and a nice drink on the Discovery Country Suites lawn, they got us inside one of the function rooms in Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay and had us bake real deal chocolate chip cookies.

Discovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country Suites

They also got us to decorate these sweet treats so we could give it to our Moms later on with personalized dedications on them. I would have loved to show my finished product but we're too shy to do that on public blog posts LOL.

The Interiors

Discovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country SuitesDiscovery Country Suites

The place originally was a vacation house of the owners of the Discovery Leisure Company and they didn't quite use the space and spent time here only yearly. The smart thing would be to lease it out and they thought to have had a bed and breakfast even before other establishments of the same kind sprouted in Tagaytay. You can say that they were pioneers and with the renovations started immediately so they could accommodate people who would want to spend a weekend, a month, or several ones when they're in Tagaytay as this place just screams serenity, comfortable country living which you can travel a few hours from Manila. The interiors pretty much is an upscale woodsy shabby chic without the glitzy ceramic pots for tea and weathered furniture. I think it was really made to be a country home rather than a hotel-esque environment hence the look. The place gets packed during the weekends though so it's better if you book a few weeks so you could secure a room, or the whole house if you've got money to spend.

Special Mothers Day Cakes at Breadtalk Mall of Asia

Friday, May 08, 2015

When was the last time you had the chance to visit a Breadtalk branch near you? Well, this Mothers Day seems to be an opportune time to do it as our favorite bakery brings out the buns to make them the next destination for the most special person in your life, your Mom!

Breadtalk understands that in order to make them feel special, you've got to have the corresponding special cakes with it. They still make fresh bread everyday and they don't stop making them from morning, noon and night because sometimes they practically run out of it!

The Interiors

The Mall of Asia branch is one of the oldest branches in the Philippines, actually they opened together with the mall. They an accommodate around 50-60 people in one go and several more if they chose to just stand outside and eat bread all day. Their breads are legendary. You can also see their kitchen/production area as they dish out these awesome breads one by one. They have a spotless store because they aim to have the same clean standards just like in Singapore where this brand originated. Then we went on tasting their super awesome cakes!

The Cakes

This is the Mamarvelous. They made this cake especially for Mothers day. One bite, and you'll feel it take you to heaven and back. It felt like I was biting into clouds since they used Vanilla Cream based frosting. It's hard to bake cakes like these, more so if you have to do those rosettes. They also infused purple yam on the cake's exterior hence the color. I loved it so much that I had to take some of it home for my Mom. For real.

This cake is what they call Mom and Me. It's dark chocolate cake covered with rich chocolate ganache. You also have almond sponge and brandy spiked ganache plus small crunchy caramel pearls. I involuntarily closed my eyes because it was that good. The layers had their own world and you can feel it stick to your teeth every spoonful. If you're a chocolate lover, this would be something worth a try but remember, this is for Mom so she takes first bite!

The Breads

Three breads, the Sisig Bun, Berries and Cream and Cheese Floss. These are some of Breadtalk's best sellers aside from the usual Pork Floss you get from their stores. Surprisingly, the Sisig Bun is very good, even if it's whimsical, it's flavor permeates throughout the whole bread. It's worth a try. The Berries and Cream on the other hand is sweet and tangy. I bet it comes from the fruit they used for the filling. The Cheese floss brings another layer of cheese outside your favorite pork floss, so in some sense, they just made it better!

That's how they want you to experience Mothers Day in Breadtalk stores, to be treated special, to feel loved. Make sure to place your orders in advanced or visit the Mall of Asia Breadtalk branch if you're in the area. She deserves it right? Bring home a Mamarvelous cake or the Mom & Me cake today! This will only be available until Sunday, you know how that goes.
