Dating Apps: Do They Work?

Friday, February 11, 2022

T
he pandemic has forced us all to stay in our homes and contemplate about life and dating. These days, going out on an "in person" date would require having testing kits, a microscope and certifications from doctors (I kid). In ways, it has become passe and people have started to realize that relationships can still start with technology through apps on your smartphone. The arduous hours spent on it recently had been figured out (thanks to Rakuten Insight and Statista Global Research) that over 48 percent of Filipinos use dating apps and almost 28 percent admit spending several hours in a week in it. This would probably continue to grow in coming years.

If you don't know, the business is worth 2.5 Billion Dollars, let that sink in. In an industry like this, you need great app experience to stand out and get a bigger chunk of the pie. With it, you'll get a lot of people match and experience connections that are all easy, seamless, meaningful and enjoyable. The various facets of the app should be supported including those that can be attended to by digital outsourcing providers.

The Dating Game

Chat is essential but there are tons of other features that leading apps use to make it a successufl match. Those gif's, stickers, images, greetings, predictive text, much of the things you see or do are driven by AI or machine learning. This includes responses they give so they lead conversations, land pickup lines and Dad jokes with ease.

Others take the extra mile and do games, from trivia rounds to spaceships with your nose, to turning those awkward situations more entertaining. There's a lot out there that can make or break a great dating app, but only a few employ good ones. It has to, otherwise it needs a bit of re-thinking.

In-App Support

Not everyone would be putting in their personal details in the app, understandable for safety reasons. Aside from that, scams and cat-fishing are actually a thing now. This is why support channels should be available whether chat or email, and response to urgent matters must be addressed especially if things get compromised.

Mr. And Ms. BPO Holds Final Screening Today

Saturday, October 14, 2017

Today marks the last day of Mr. and Ms. BPO screening and we can't wait to see who will actually get in on this particular pageant. Aimed to showcase the best of the best in the industry, men and women will be joining this soon to be annual event to represent their companies, finding people who will take charge, lead and inspire a lot of people. I have worked in the BPO industry for 11 years. During that time, I've seen how it has grown into just plain outsourcing arm into a full blown intellectual and practical talent source that has provided high paying jobs for a LOT of people in the country. It's high time people look at it differently as it's not all eyebags and zombies, but really talented people, professionals who work hard every day just like you and me.

This afternoon, we got to meet the people behind Mr. and Mrs. BPO including Apprentice Asia winner Jonathan Yabut and he says "Those contestants will get to enjoy and be mentored by the four judges. It's by voluntary basis but they can ask their respective companies HR and perhaps do their own pageants on their own then represent themselves. Looks is definitely there but we will be choosing someone who can inspire, communicate their points across, and we get to do workshops after they learn the lessons. I do workshops for companies and executives, a lot of millenials. The pageant partnered with the Call Center Association of the Philippines and they will have a say on what charity the proceeds will go to. The hope is to do this yearly and perhaps internationally because this is a huge industry."

We got the chance to talk to the judges and asked them about people they are looking for to win this pageant.

For those who want to join, you have until 5PM today to do so as they are holding the final one at the I'M Hotel in Makati. For more information about it you may visit their website www.mrandmsbpo.com or their Facebook page. Finals will be on November 21, 2017 at the MOA Arena.

Sykes Grand Year End Party

Saturday, January 02, 2016

My sister works for Sykes and I don't, let's get that out there. I don't know much about the company but I've heard good things about them. Especially the guys from my old company who transferred there for greener pasture and professional growth. They've been working hard, and every year Sykes makes it a point that Sykesers (as they call em) get a little bit of reward. A little in the tune of Php 2 Million worth of prizes.

This happened last December and they dubbed it “SYKES FUTURE FORWARD: The SYKES 2015 Year-End Celebration”. Since they were on the futuristic side of things, they got all 5,000 Manila based employees to play dress up at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. They also raffled off prizes like a 32 inch Samsung LED TV, Ipad Mini 3, Mac Book Air, FujiFilm Instax Mini 8, an iPhone 6, Go Pro, and the latest Samsung smartphones. Since that is small (oh yes I kid), they took the liberty of having their main man VP and Country Manager Dean Van Ormer to give away the grand prize of Php 150,000 plus 2 more Php100,000 winners just because they liked it. That's one of the things they did to make them happy since they've worked so hard this 2015.

They also had fun with employees strutting out their stuff, holding a competition to see who the best company based dance group is. The winner declared was "True Sight of the Kaleidoscope". They also didn't forget to award Rich Dingding (Male Category) and Gemma de Lima (Female Category) for the garb they wore as they declared the most "Fashion Forward".

The work life balance they want each Sykes employee to have looks but a reality. They also rewarded “SYKESClista”, an employee based organization as “SYKES Choices Club” awardee for 2015. They have a lot and not many BPO offices have that. I'm sure some of you can tell, and it is essential to make the employees happy. If that ain't enough, they threw in Parokya Ni Edgar and had the greatest concert of their lives in the venue. That's just fun! Now I want to be with Sykes. Can they take me in? LOL!

Congratulations Sykes and your 13,000 employees, you did good!

DELL: In A Different Light

Sunday, May 20, 2012

President for Philippine Operations Richard Teo discusses to online media what DELL is.

I arrived late because of the horrendous traffic in Eastwood City but that didn't dampen the spirits of online media that visited the DELL office in Quezon City. Honestly, I know so little about DELL other than it being one of the largest suppliers of computers here, in Europe and the Americas. Their President Richard Teo explained quite an amount of businesses that DELL is in today; maybe to get to know them a bit... I felt schooled afterwards.

One of the questions that popped into my mind was... Why in the world is the PRESIDENT of this corporation presenting to us? I mean, this could have been done by one of his managers or something right?

They laughed. Well my question made sense right? But they answered quite gamely and told me that it's always like this in DELL, even though he is President they try as much as possible to know each and everyone in the corporation on a personal level. He sits and eats the same way as the 1,600++ employees of DELL in the Philippines. This has been their approach since they set office in the Philippines. This to me is quite a remarkable thing to see as a practice in a multinational corporation. I haven't seen any corporation do this, its like breaking the whole structure.

DELL Philippines President Richard Teo and HR Director Donna Grande

President Richard Teo and Donna Grande HR Director of DELL Philippines simply said that this is one of the differences about the culture of DELL and other companies. Even though Richard Teo is the President, they are partners and work hand in hand in order to make every task get that same treatment whoever of whatever position they hold as employees of DELL. Richard even went on telling that he lives, eats and breathes the same thing as any employee. They also hold brown paper meets to ensure they get their point across when they say that they give importance to getting THE human potential. That's when I get their point. I'm sure just with this practice alone, they are the envy of most corporations I know.

DELL isn't just involved in manufacturing computer products. As a matter of fact they gained financial strength in the healthcare business too via the acquisition of Perot systems. I think this is what they call the Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions. Perot Systems is one of the largest providers of health inclined information technology services and business solutions that can also cater to a broad range of clients. This was one of the key areas they are into plus add to that the business process outsourcing leg of their corporation that's gotten quite BIG in the past few years. I wouldn't tell you the figures but you probably know how much the Philippines earned in this industry that's got it #1 status worldwide. With Customer service, POS, Customer Care, health care and corporate services as part of their portfolio, this would have no way to go but UP.

DISCOVERING HUMAN POTENTIAL STORIES

We got the chance to talk to some of the employees of DELL inside the Eastwood office. This husband and wife team originally came from India. The guy on the right had been in DELL for a couple of years and the wife just visited every now and then to take care of their kids, but seeing and experiencing the ambiance and work culture in the Philippines they both decided it was worth to be with the corporation.

She was originally from DELL India but seeing the opportunities inside the young Philippine office she fell in love with the place and its people. DELL knows how service oriented the culture of the Filipinos are. Even their employees find how warm and inviting this country is. They also use this advantage to most of their customer service oriented accounts. Case on point they know they've got some of the best in the industry.

Guy above has been with DELL for almost 9 years. He was a technical support person for a couple of years but DELL pretty much provided him with an environment convenient to growth. Even if you want to laterally transfer to an account which you feel you can do a better job in they will provide you with training and the arsenal to go where your heart wishes to be in. It's not only good to do business in DELL, its good to work there too.

No matter how young or physically challenged you are these guys attest that if you do a good job its not really an issue. They have been with DELL for years now and the things that they have done in the workplace are very says a lot with the excellence the company calls for. Professionals from DELL are world class and they even promote their employees to invite their friends to work in the same place. It promotes teamwork if you know who you work with and they have been successful in their own hiring processes.

DELL continues to grow as a corporation and as an entity who value people, work and excellence in products and services. I just witnessed this feat in this visit. The business is conducive with their employees, its the same with the business and the services they offer. The next time you look for a wholistic corporation that can work with you and still make it one of the greenest, efficient solution for operations; you might want to give DELL a call and get your business running the right way. Working technology and making it unleash the full human potential, this is what Michael Saul Dell believes in too. Thanks for letting us visit DELL!

Views on the Outsourcing Industry

Saturday, June 12, 2010

I have been in the outsourcing and business process industry for around 6 years. I guess I am much of an expert since I climbed up the ranks. I know I have a lot more to offer. I also have the thing on looking for what is best in the world of computing corporations and I must say there are several companies who achieve more than the usual. Without a doubt; there must be some standards set for every business to succeed in this industry. In the quality of workers it is a concern for these corporations to have literature fulfillment at every way since they are catering for a worldwide audience. Going international is essential in this day and age because everything is connected. The world literally shrunk in the last few decades because of information technology. These companies are harnessing things that could get them have resources cheaper without compromising quality. I know institutions that successfully merged these and are reaping the benefits.

The Philippines and India have gained a lot since inbound and outbound call centers have flourished in major cities too. The dollars people are saving elsewhere become work for them and I think that is essential to making the world a little more challenging for emerging markets. It takes a balancing act to do all these. I'm sure you know what direct marketing companies to choose next time to make your business flourish in the next few years. Make sure you take a closer look at their records and know you can make the best choice!
