GUILTY PLEASURE: Lovi Poe's Best Work

You've seen the reaction of a lot of people coming out of theaters after they watched Guilty Pleasure. It's the latest offering by Regal Films and C'est Lovi Productions. The film stars Lovi Poe, JM De Guzman, Jameson Blake. They also have Dustin Yu, Sarah Edwards, Angelica Lao. They also have the strict looking Johnny Revilla, excellent character actors like Soliman Cruz, Raf Pineda, Adrienne Vergara, Lorraine Wong, Christian Ty, Ella Cristofani and Darwin Yu. The film is directed by well known TV great, Producer, Screenwriter and artist Connie Macatuno.

While most of the conversations end up in the courtroom (for most of the scenes), the dilemma was focused quite intently in the relationship of Lovi who played Atty. Alexis and the characters of JM De Guzman (the son in law of her boss) and a new love, Atty Math Caliente played by Jameson Blake. Guilty Pleasure talks about a lot of things. From relationships, labels, the weird fetish, the passionate, sparking new things, even violence. It delves on the topics of feelings, consent, between people. While they battle it out in the courtroom, it mirrored what the things they personally experienced. Lovi in this movie is nothing like the goody two shoes she depicts in previous projects. She's more intense, tough, but overall, she's just a woman violated, trying to solve a problem both in the courtroom, and in real life. 

JM De Guzman doesn't shortchange playing his role, a bit of a surprise in this case as he gets involved with Atty. Emma. His acting awards get showcased even more because his character is a bit off the charts. He presents something opposite Jameson's character and persona, which was slowly burned in the movie. It's like a long courtship, putting in small moments of love, cuteness, acceptance which made Jameson look quite adorable, a confidant who never judged her for any reason.

Watch out for Jameson Blakes little surprise right towards the end of the movie.

 

This is by far Lovi Poe's bets performance in a film, I could say that with confidence since I've watched a few of her movies. She's only here for this project since she's a little busy in Hollywood for a few things. She can go back if needed, those direct flights would surely be pretty nifty if she wants things to happen to as an actress and as a producer now.

The story gets you to hold on to hope, how to welcome change, and if all falls into place (even justice wise), you get LOVE too. If you think this tickles your fancy, or slightly felt an interest with, go watch it on theaters now. It's R16 without cuts, and is shown in SM Cinemas and other leading theaters nationwide.

LOVI POE, JM DE GUZMAN, JAMESON BLAKE in GUILTY PLEASURE

It's been a while since I've seen Lovi Po, JM De Guzman and Jameson Blake in person. It's been years, but this new movie beckons not just a bit of discovery, but quite a lot of understanding. I couldn't say it's fully cerebral, but from what I heard during the mediacon, it deduces the female perspective, talks about their fantasies, their lives, the justice system, in this Regal Films and C'est Lovi Productions produced project called "GUILTY PLEASURE".

This movie also includes Dustin Yu, Sarah Edwards, Angelica Lao, Johhny Revilla, Soliman Cruz, Raf Pineda, Adrienne Vergara, Lorraine Wong, Christian Ty, Ella Cristofani, and Darwin Yu among others. This is Directed by Connie Macatuno, while the screenplay and script is by Noreen Capili.

Lovi was quite thankful for the help she got from Regal Films' very own Ms. Roselle Monteverde whom she was actually able to call anytime of the day (even after business hours) if she needs to ask something about production. Yes, Lovi is actually producing this movie too hence C'est Lovi Productions. Though new to the production world, you must understand how Lovi has literally lived all her life in making films. JM De Guzman on the other hand brings another interesting character, a superior from the judicial sector, but a lover that brings something different in closed doors with Lovi's character, Alexis. Jameson Blake on the other hand is more aggressive, loving, funny, a different partnership that provides a choice between two men.

Lovi says "Working with Regal was amazing. It was something risky which I found out after reading the script. This is not for entertainment, but something that will spark conversation. When we were doing the scenes, we trust each other. It also felt like a fashion show, but there were moments when I was comfortable. It was great though because the ones you see on the trailer is just the tip of the iceberg. This story is a lot deep, and I'm thankful for Direk who helped me. I'm just so grateful that everyone came to see us here, and I hope you could come and see us on October 16." 

When I asked about her Producer hat, she said "What sparked this is my love for writing. I remember doing Seasons for Regal, I felt good being part of the process, and everything just came together. There are so many stories that I want to do after that, I hope I also get to do a lot of writing. My mentor is no other than Ms. Roselle Monteverde, and the fact that I can call her anytime, and also, my husband abroad who does this professionally in Hollywood, and that's awesome."

TIRSO, BOBOT, BOYET and LOVI for SOME KIND OF VALENTINE

Looks like the memories will come crashing back in as SOME KIND OF VALENTINE will be showing at the Newport Performing Arts Theater this coming February 3 and 4. This will be headlined by iconic actors Tirso Cruz III, Edgar Mortiz, Christopher de Leon and the gorgeous Lovi Poe. Aside from these guys and lovely lady, they will also be featuring Kanishia, Mel Villena and the AMP Band. 

Director Alco Guerrero says "We have lots of realizations and the 15-20 piece band will surely be playing the classics so I'm excited to do this."

Bobot Mortiz adds "The last Valentine show I had was with the bad bananas, and we also introduced Zsazsa Padilla at the time, this time we have Lovi. Hopefully our fans, we will have to dig up some of them, would be able to watch this two night concert."

Christopher de Leon says "This is gonna be filled with laughter, lots of fun and will have familiar songs from our time. There will be duets, it's gonna be wacky and real singing. I promise, it's going to be fun!"

Lovi says "I know, I was a little afraid to stand with icons on stage, but it's been a while since we have performed so this is the perfect time to celebrate love with everybody."

Sir Tirso says "It'll be so much fun because we will have a different arrangement for these songs and there are so much songs that we plan to sing, from 60's, 70's to 80's hits, the classics and you'll get to reminisce how we enjoyed music since then. There will also be comedy portions in between songs which I am sure you'll surely enjoy!"

LOVI POE Officially Joins Kapamilya Network

Looks like things are going Lovi Poe's way as she officially joins ABSCBN today. The former Kapuso star just signed a network contract today and rumors have been spreading that she's going to do a KDrama project this year.

Well, they squashed the rumors and immediately confirmed it by telling us that the KDrama adaptation is going to happen, the original piece is Flower of Evil and Lovi will star in this project together with the one and only Piolo Pascual. Photos of the actress with Papa P has been posted on the IG account of Lovi's manager Leo V. Dominguez. They look so happy there!

Lovi says "When they told me I will be working with Piolo, I was excited! It was an actual dream when we met today, it's such an amazing project and pairing with him is just amazing! Actually we talked about the time when he mentioned that he wanted to work with me. That was 4 or 5 years ago. Now it's happening. We get to work together!"

FDCP to hold Film Ambassadors Night 2021 Online

 

It's been a while since we've all gone out to the cinemas and from the looks of it, it's going to take a few more months before pandemic restriction eases, which is understandable because of the dangers of COVID19. 

 

The industry has grown, and the Philippines has showcased a ton of films outside the country where it has met a lot of appreciation. This year, they are going to continue to do the FILM AMBASSADORS NIGHT for 2021. This is ultimately, to recognize the men and women who has done remarkable things for the Philippine film industry and FDCP will be spearheading it again this year.

According to Chairman Liza Dino "It was the last event that FDCP mounted before the pandemic last year, we didn't realize how big of an impact it would have in our sector. It's been a year, and we are still here, but we should reflect and be grateful about this. It's hard and we haven't recovered fully as we have workers who have no work, but this year, we hope this sparks hope, in an industry that has gotten accolades amidst the pandemic. This is our way of celebrating our filmmakers, to promote our stories, our cinema, to represent us in different parts of the world. While we are celebrating, we are bringing recognition to people who did so good despite the pandemic, to reflect what is important we have come together to get through hardships, we didn't expect this as an agency and we all are experiencing this. I hope in this first event, it will be an opportunity to unite and share this experience to celebrate what good things that happened in 2020 and look forward to more this 2021 to all our projects, programs and initiatives."

Among those to be recognized are Dingdong Dantes, Arjo Atayde, Lovi Poe, Elijah Canlas, Alden Richards, Allen Dizon, Cheri Gil, Alfred Vargas, Angel Aquino, Ronwaldo Martin, Ruby Ruiz, Isabel Sandoval, Louise Abuel and Cristine Reyes. There will be more!

 

Award Winning Documentaries will also be honored

Part of those who will be recognized during the award night are two very talented teams under GMA News and Public Affairs, BRIGADA and Atom Araullo Specials which have been praised in other countries and won Bronz and Silver awards for their documentaries about Aetas and the other about poor people selling their babies online. We got updates about the cases via chat as Ms. Kara and her team responded to our questions there too. Their real clamor is to have these be acted upon by the government and have them be given what is due them since they have fought during World War II.

The Film Ambassadors Night 2021 will be held online on the FDCP channel. This is their 5th installment and the nice thing is, a lot of actors have won worldwide. Hopefully, you would get to know these films and recognize why they won and brought prestige for the country. This is also done to coincide national arts month of NCCA. Bamboo, Tres Marias, Bituin Escalante, several crooners and artists will be there for honorees. This is a good way of recognizing film makers especially those who have excelled in the international arena. Award winners, embassies from other countries will be there and it would be a good venue to learn more about the film industry even for artists, directors who would like to excel in the craft. Owe My Love with Lovi and Ben Starts Today

We miss them, we all do. I got to interview Lovi Poe and Ben Alves a couple days ago about their new show Owe My Love. 

The show tells the lives of Pacencia “Sensen” Guipit (Lovi) and Dr. Miguel “Migs” Alcancia (Benjamin) as they become financially intertwined because Sen had to pay her Father's debt while Migs had to make a fake marriage arrangement to make his Father a little less sick (played by Martinez).

 

 

 

The plot is awesome, but this also is kinda the return of these two stars in primetime though under a different production as this was done under GMA Public Affairs. They've done several shows even during the pandemic, and quality wise, they're actually pretty good. This one is directed by Rember Gelera and Ray Gibraltar. This is written by Volta Delos Santos and concept is by Joseph Conrad Rubio. They are the same team who did Naku, Boss Ko!, Inday Will Always Love You, TODA One I Love and One of the Baes. So in a way, a lot is expected from these guys with this project.

 

This show also stars a stellar cast of comedic and drama actors which includes Comedy Concert Queen Aiai Delas Alas, WinWyn Marquez, Jackie Lou Blanco, Ms. Nova Villa, Ruby Rodriguez, Pekto, Buboy Villar, Kiray Celis, Ryan Eigenmann, Jelai Andres, Jon Gutierrez, Jason Francisco, Divine Tetay, Terry Gian and Mahal. Show starts at 9:35PM today. Information about the show is also available on GMA Pinoy TV.

Lovi Poe and Ben Alves Spark Love and Laughter in OH MY LOVE

It's a new series and yes, Lovi Poe and Benjamin Alves is back to bring you a drama/comedy series playing on everyday life in the Philippines.


Lovi says "We made sure we practiced social distancing to make sure we're all safe. I think it's challenging compared to what we did in the past, this time it's different because we are surrounded by an amazing cast because they are great comedians.


Ben says "Lovi and I are doing a masterclass with people that have comedic and creative minds on a fly, we had to be on our toes. Lovi and I have always worked light, this is how we are in real life even in banters. That's how we do things, hopefully that translates on screen. In all things I wanted when I was a kid, I've always wanted to be a doctor. There are tons of shows with that in the concept, a lot of the nuiances are from some KDrama I watch, it was recommended to me by Lovi."

Red Carpet Scenes: The Annulment Premiere Night

Looks like Regal Entertainment is putting their bets on a little more mature movie this time with Lovi Poe and Joem Bascom, both great actors in a film called The Annulment. Timely, yes, because there have been a lot of talk about divorce and the politics of it. When you're in a toxic relationship, when you're not happy, or just plain giving up on a futile union, it is a choice, would you rather stay? Or just quit?

Well, let's just say Gari (Lovi Poe) and Sherwin (Joem) are having a circus in the movie. One, tries to be blind, the other does it, gets caught in the act, then everything falls. Direk Mac Alejandre attacked this quite slow, but the confrontation scenes are quite gold. You will get fun off the love scenes, the slaps, and hell hath no fury when a woman scorned.

The support ensemble is good, I like the situations and how the friends blend in the story. No matter how awkward the situation is.

TOTGA Ends Exciting Show Today

Today marks the end of popular romcom show The One That Got Away on GMA primetime TV. Sad that it has all come to this, and as of yesterday the three men and three ladies seem to have not realized their dream of having a peaceful love life and relationship because now, they're all trapped in a forest - with no help or signal along the way because the plans of Renz Fernandez and vixen Solenn Heussaff are still in play. Tied up and gagged, will the ladies be able to find them later in the finale episode?

Don't get your hopes up because it's a bit difficult as they have split out and tried to find them in that forest, with no assurance that they'd be still alive or be eaten fresh by Renz Fernandez and Solenn's character. Lovi says "I will miss working with my co stars especially Dennis whom I find so good in the acting department, how he shifts, how he portrays the main guy, we felt it's all fresh and new!"

Max Collins adds "What I would miss most is the bond and friendships we formed while we did this series. Our fight scenes, we were like kids on the playground, I'll miss them all." While Rhian on the other hand says "I gave my all, my character here is so experimental and won't just fall on your lap everyday, I thank the creatives for making such fun personas in this show."

TOTGA also stars Ivan Dorschner, Migo Adecer,  Jason Abalos, Ms. Snooky Serna, Bembol Roco, Luz Valdez, Ervic Vijandre, Nar Cabico, Jason Francisco, Patricia Ismael, Kelley Day,  Euwenn Aleta and Sophie Albert. This was conceptualized for TV by Angeli Delgado, written by Renei Dimla under the GMA Entertainment Group of Madame Lilybeth G. Rasonable. This is directed by Mark Sicat Dela Cruz.

Erich, Lovi and Tom for THE SIGNIFICANT OTHER

I have always loved Erich since she started doing shows in ABSCBN. In a way I was rooting for her, both in her work, and her relationships. Like life, it all has ups and downs. She felt real for me, even if she unfollowed me on IG but I don’t mind anymore haha. She remained so nice to me whenever we meet, I’m a fan I admit, and I like what is happening. She worked hard for her body - and now is the opportune time to show it off.

We all like what we see.

In this film though, she’s not the one who gets pitied with because as much as you would want to feel for her character, she’s the other woman. Lovi on the other hand plays the wife, who in a nutshell focused more on her career than her marriage. I don’t see the reason why she should be cursed for that alone but there may have been reasons why Tom Rodriguez would philander. Would that even be justifiable?

Direk Joel Lamangan says “This is the story of a woman who fell in love, and how the significant other woman came into the picture. The title is there as it is what’s written, and we think it is integral to the movie. They are not contented, they are problematic, this storyline has been told so many tines but the only difference is... are these actresses who are the best in their generation. It exists and it happens. Working with Snooky, Dina, and Tom was obviously my favorite part. I just want to see them sincere in creating characters.”

Dina Bonnevie says “I’m a doting mother, who still has care for their kids. A little well off but just like Snooky we’re just looking after our kids. I was so afraid of him in the past but he sets the bar with being real and faking it, he’s very frank but you’ll learn so much to tell me sometimes he doesn’t believe my acting, to be better than the last time. He’s a maestro.”

Ms Snooky says “I learned a lot working with Direk Joel. It’s like I reached the pinnacle of being an actor, I just worry I will fail but he has been so kind with me. I really thank him on how he treats the crew, how important it is to the craft and how he treats everyone. I see so much of Lino Brocka in him. We had a scene with Ms Dina in the bathroom and you’ll love how that will unfold in the movie. It’s something you should look forward to, when I was in underage it was so hard to remove that thought now that we had to work and hurt each other. We had to really do it again because the first take was too soft for him.”

Tom Rodriguez says “I play Dr Santillan and regards himself as the best in his field. Very confident and he gets to sleep with the top models in the industry. He gets his machismo, his confidence from doing these things that are wrong. I had so much fun working with Direk and I am trying not to get freaked out working with him.”

Lovi says “I am a supermodel, wife to Tom. She chose her career over love so she didn’t have time for her husband. I started with Direk and I think he is just an actor’s director. Erich is someone I look up to and if you see her at work, I get to do good scenes because I get it from her. She’s real and very sincere and I am thankful that I got to do that with her.”

Erich adds “She might be poor but is divided into playing this love game with his heart or mind. This is such an opportunity for me, this is also the first time I worked with actors from other networks. My rule number one is not to be number 2, and I think it’s the classy way to do even if you already want to hurt the other party. I love the chance to actually work with Lovi, we’re now good friends.”
