VICE GANDA's Vax Ganda A Dose of Laughter Concert in the US a Success!

Friday, October 29, 2021

Two whole days of fun and laughter happened at Pechanga Resort in Temecula California in the US as the unkabogable Vice Ganda held a concert entitled "VAX GANDA: A Dose of Laughter". As a matter of fact, it got sold out quite fast that even when we were writing about it a few months ago, only the second day had available seats. We couldn't blame Kapamilyas in the US because as you know, Vice Ganda is just the dose of laughter they needed after restrictions eased in their side of the world.

Fans eagerly awaited the different designs and costumes she wore. Aside from that, they also got to listen to Vice really play around with the pandemic concept with songs, dance numbers, their guests Angeline Quinto and Vice's usual cohorts in skits MC and Lassie. Everyone was ecstatic and had so much fun during the concert and the meet and greet that happened later on in the day. I think we're going to see a repeat of this in other places in the world so stay tuned!

This trip also marked the anniversary of Vice and Ion who's currently on their third year to forever. Make sure you also catch Vice Ganda's vlogs on YouTube because both Vice and Ion have uploaded their shopping and tour activities for everyone to see. It's also trending on YouTube too.

Vice Ganda proved once again that the Filipino is world class. With performances like these being brought to the US and elsewhere in the world, I'm sure it'll be appreciated even more in the coming years more so as businesses slowly open once again.

Foolish Love from Regal Films

Thursday, January 19, 2017

It's a day for love, romance and a little funny. On January 25, 2017, Angeline Quinto, Jake Cuenca, Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida will make you fall in love with 4 new characters in the movie entitled FOOLISH LOVE which is produced by Regal Films. This is their first movie this year and it couldn't come at an opportune time because Angeline Quinto has improved a lot since "That Thing Called Tanga Na". They also have paired her with hunky Jake Cuenca who's surely going all out after doing acting school and several master class opportunities in the US. Direk Joel Lamangan has nothing but good words for them. Angeline plays a crazy love thirsty woman who wanted to have Jake Cuenca to be the man of her dreams. He turns out to be a different kind of guy and it'll be a riot from there. Will love be enough to fix this relationship? We're not sure, but Angeline gave off a very convincing love scene with Jake in this movie... so that alone is something to watch about.

Aside from that, this is the first time that Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida are going to be seen on silverscreen. ToMiho as fondly called by their fans would actually be a great addition to the ensemble as baristas in the film. Now imagine Miho being actively sought after by her boss played by funny man Jerald Napoles. She still wants Tommy but would probably be afraid to get fired anytime if her boss finds out. Tommy and Miho are inseparable, so if you're looking for reel and real romance then they would gladly show you how.

"Sometimes I forget the script and I'm glad I have my co actors to ask for help. Of course I need to learn a lot about acting, but I'm glad I'm doing this with Tommy. Nakakabaliw naman talaga ang pagibig eh, pagperfect ang boring eh."-Miho Nishida

"I fight with Miho's boss in the movie and I'm suppsed to punch the boss and I'm hesitant to do that. Direk keeps telling me I can do it, I ended up punching him on the scene... for work! We want to be successful actors and even if we end up get paired with other actors, I suppose we can learn from that. Love is a beautiful thing, love is crazy"-Tommy Esguerra

"Working with Direk Joel you will learn a lot and this is the best take away, having a film with him." -Jake Cuenca

Eric Quizon, Billy Crawford, Kean Cipriano, Martin Escudero and Angeline Quinto in "That Thing Called Tanga Na"

Friday, August 05, 2016

A film done as a tribute to the LGBT, "That Thing Called Tanga Na" is said to be Mother Lily Monteverde's gift to the community. She promises this to be an entertaining film full of all kinds of love as she believes it's going to be relateable for all kinds of genders. The film outfit has produced "Petrang Kabayo", "Kumander Gringa", "Bala at Lipstick", "Manat Po 1 & 2", "Happy Together" and a couple of other themed films, they have steadfastly made these funny ones to showcase how colorful their lives are. These are just a few box office hits and they want to tell the story that no matter what gender, they are still human too, they are still capable of love and they also makes mistakes.

Here's a short video of them telling us about their characters:

Eric Quizon portrays Papa Chui, a gay man from a very conservative Chinese family who's actually in a relationship with a younger guy, and sponsors him for all his needs. Martin Escudero on the other hand plays a transexual woman who wants to adopt a kid and have a family. Billy Crawford meanwhile plays a closeted gay who's got a relationship with a guy who's mother is going to cause problems for them. Kean Cipriano here has a really professional career as a fashion designer and gets who he wants because of it. Little did soon to be married Angeline Quinto in the film that the guy she's marrying also slept with Kian's character. This will be a riot, a test on how Eric, Billy, Kean, Martin and Angeline would still be able to maintain their friendship despite their circumstances.

"During the first few days I was really hesitant because it's hard to play the character in the film, it was a challenge for me. I'm a rocker but I find the extreme difference between my real personality, the tone of his voice and walking with heels. We had to make CC be experienced and the challenge was how to balance his vibe, how to dress up, how to wear a night gown and embrace how his journey as a gay person is. It's so fun to be gay and you'll see how their lives are eventful. It won't be experienced as straight people. My take is we all make stupid decisions falling in love no matter what gender, form or shape we are. It's one great equalizer. I grew up going to all boy schools and I admit I pass some subjects because of gays, homophobie is passe and odd living a life fearing a person with that gender, that's a problem. It's challenging to take out simple things as a man, and the tone of my voice, I enjoy saying words and converse with fellow actors like that, it's fun!" says Kean Cipriano.

Here's an interview we did a couple of months ago during a set visit

Similar to Kean I was hesitant and I don't want to offend anyone doing the role. We had negative impressions in the past with things we did in skits of Showtime. This is my comeback film in Regal so I was excited, a bit skeptical because it was Joel Lamangan. We wouldn't be able to do it withour him and we enjoyed how he shaped each individual character. Mine was easier because I need to also be a little strong, I didn't have any guides and Direk was really strict about that. There are gays that when you see them, you see them really fun, but you really have to know their story and the things that they are going through. You make mistakes but you move on." says Billy.

Lawrence Yap says "I'm the husband of Angeline in this film and I had to really convince myself sometimes that I have to play him funny. In terms of gender, love doesn't really choose who to do it with. No hate, just love."

"I brought Korean food and cooked in the set so we could get really bonded. It was fun and that's what I ultimately wanted to happen. A lot of people tell me I am "Babaeng Bakla" even when I was still living in Sampaloc and I think that title alone is fun. Everyone is capable of being an idiot especially when it comes to love, I learned a lot in this film because of what they go through in life. I know a lot of people who are in this industry, some even marry off and it's not a bad thing." adds Angeline

"I feel this movie would really help understand how to handle situations and gay relationships. I've met homophobic people but I tell them when I do hear things like that." says Paolo Gumabao.

"From the bottom of my heart, I am thankful that gays have built Regal what it is right now. This one is for you, I made this film for my friends and I have a lot of them in my circle. This is to thank you!" says Mother Lily.

The film also stars hunks Albie Casino, Ken Alfonso, Timothy Lawrence Yap, Paolo Gumabao, Luke Conde, Jerald Napoles, funny vixen Shine Kuk, Nikki Valdez, and a lot more. Again this film is directed by Joel Lamangan for Regal Films. Premier night will be on August 9 at SM Megamall's Cinema 7. It will be shown on theaters this coming August 10 nationwide!

ROYALS Finale Press Conference

Monday, February 08, 2016

It's the second year since Mang Jerry left us, so during The Royals press conference Martin dedicated this day for him and Regine's family. Aside from that, they also announced that tickets to the show have been sold out, now that's good news for the production.

Erik Santos says "I am more than excited because I've seen the lineup. I'm also trying not to drink coffee as I'm a bit acidic, it's hard to maintain my voice if that happens. I don't know, I will be forever a fan of Martin. In the past, I used to watch their concerts and buy their albums. I get them as special guests in the past and now we're in one stage so it's overwhelming and as much as possible I need to keep up with them in live performances." Erik also commented on Ruffa Mae's "I am more than willing to sing in their wedding, we're still friends and I can tell her. I just knew of it two days ago, I had to ask her cousin about it and her cousin confirmed that they are engaged. Honestly, I am very happy for her knowing that. She deserves that. I am also ready to have one, I might even have a ring already (he jokes). Too early to say."

Angeline Quinto says "This is the first time that I have had a show where I am excited to sing for people and my family. To see Erik, Ms. Regine and Martin in one show is already enough, to be with them is a dream. I am trying my best to be at par with them, but I'll try my best" then she laughs it off. She added "I haven't really watched concerts in the past because I couldn't afford the tickets, but now I'm performing on stage with them. I'm really excited! I am looking forward for this dream, Ms. Regine is my idol and when people watch this, I want them to feel inspired because I have achieved something like this. I feel so happy to be able to do that. I can't believe this is happening. I really don't want to hear that I have to beat Regine in this concert, because I am just thankful for this. I also am relieved that she's not like other singers that don't want me in production numbers, I know of one guy but I won't name him. I have not mistaken to have idolized Sir Martin and Ms Regine."

"I also met Ruffa Mae, even had a picture and I believe she was sincere. But we haven't met again after that, I feel that she's very sincere, a very good person. We thought we were relatives but when I asked about where they came from, we were from different provinces."

Birthday boy Martin Nievera says "These two have a big big future together, even if they are not a love team they'll watch them because of sheer talent. That's pressure for us, we have a different goal, for these guys to be satisfied and we'll try to do our best too during rehearsals. We had to turn down songs because we have different ideas. We might need to do a 4 hour concert and Cacai doesn't want that. Regine was very quiet before and if she goes on stage, it's like someone else possessed her. I don't know if the young ones will sabotage us, you should watch that in the show. I'm on my 34th year in the business, I don't know whatever made me the concert king, but it's a benchmark and milestone, it's a compliment but it's a reminder to keep up the game in these concerts. I'm so blessed to still have projects, it's the people around me not just myself, to be in their midst, I claim every blessing and I try very hard not to take it very seriously.

I'm happy so far that I have a song to sing, I am thankful. It's not just singing, these things catch up to you also but you won't have that same glitter, same position when you first started, it's a reality. I have been very vocal about getting better in the business and we should be telling our space in television so we could grow. I can do shows, talk shows, but it's getting to that point, when I get that offer, it's so much more fulfilling now the little that I get and few lines I get to sing in ASAP, it shouldn't be the case when you're a concert king, it's tough to be in the middle, there are no real friends in the business and don't complain. At the end of the day you should be more positive and that's very hard as you get older in the business. I want to be seen as the one who is doing his job, I'll sing in karaoke if I don't have a show because that's what I love. I'll be in the I LOVE OPM starting Saturday after MMK where foreigners will be singing Filipino songs and I hope you support that. Erik can easily beat me, even his speaking voice, he can sing in circles, he can emote and bring the message across, he's swooning and we talked about it. He's now making his whispers louder, I want him to shine too."

Regine quipped "Martin and I am excited, always because I'm going to be on stage and singing for my audience again. While we're doing this, in 30 years of doing this, it's always hard and there's always pressure because this is exhausting. But knowing that they are all here, I'm confident because we have the whole team here. I can point fingers if we don't do that well. I don't like performing alone even in solo concerts. I am extremely excited about this concert. The new show I'm doing is a comedy soap, there will always be drama there and I'm going to be a rich senorita that will become poor, that's the premise. Maybe if there are offers, I'd like it to be OPM musicals, if there would be something that fit me I'd wait for that project. I'm not that comfortable in Broadway style, I'm more comfortable in Filipino musicals so one of these days I'd try to see if there are good stories and songs that we can do soon. This is purely pop and classic love songs in ROYALS, they  would be appreciated by a lot of people and we'll also be bringing this to Cebu. Younger singers are very good, and more. I can feel that they're a little shy, but on Saturday I think they can do well. That might be a surprise. (They're talking about Angeline and Erik) I used to feel that way before.

These two will be giving their best! You know it's more real for me nowadays because it makes it more difficult to sing, like Erik, I have acid reflux. Sometimes it's not stretchable than compared to when I was younger. That's one of the things I tell them, just keep singing even if you can't imagine you can do. It gets harder, to be more energetic and realistic, if I can be able to do this, but I hope I do. It's not the same anymore, unlike before when I just open my mouth I can do it. I need to watch my food, sleep on time, it's not like that anymore but I'm happy I'm still here. Just a little effort and I can do it. We'll have a duet, Angeline and I, a very simple number with Whitney Houston. Lounging with coffee and all. I like that she has that attitude that she's not "nananapaw" because she respects people who she sings with. I like that, but I hope she brings it on the show, people would expect that because we both need to shine. We also have one with Erik and Martin, a Yoyoy Villame medley (she jokes), hopefully Ogie could watch this."

This is going to be a great Saturday. Watch ROYALS if you have tickets already!

ROYALS: Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Erik Santos and AngelineQuinto

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

We were at the Luxent Hotel's Ballroom to witness the press conference of ROYALS, the biggest Valentines concert this 2016. The biggest names in the industry, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto will give you a musical extravaganza (a term Erik used to describe the show) as the country's most revered balladeers and belters stage this at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. We all know how world renowned singers Filipinos are but these are the ones who set the standard if it's singing in this part of the world. You'll be in awe of how much power, charisma and presence will be put in this one day concert in Manila, or when they get the same act the next day in Cebu's Waterfront Hotel on Valentine's.

Here's some excerpts of the presscon this morning on video. Enjoy!

About relationships, we heard a little more about the pairing of Erik and Angeline. Regine and Martin didn't hold back telling them what they thought about what was happening with the two.

"The singing circle is very small and the relationships are often in the same business. It's easy to fall in love with someone in the same business because there are only a few people. I think they're just enjoying what they have now." says the songbird Ms. Regine Velasquez Alcasid.

Martin added "At the end of the day, our relationships belong to us, not the fans or detractors. It is important, I wish I had little admissions, a bit careful, it's a good thing we were friends first, our foundation was good and other artists don't have that to become in good terms after the relationship. Let's not give more pressure, they should live it without that, and they have the option to keep it to themselves. It's okay to be honest though."

"I think I'm already used to it, it's double the effort to have someone in the same industry because everyone wants to know, I prefer to keep it to ourselves but it doesn't mean we're going to not say that out loud, publicize or what not, it's a hard thing to do that. We don't have anything to admit right now and if there is, I'd be the first one to have a press conference." says Erik.

"I don't have anything to say but I'm sure when I entered his life, I already know that the other Quinto wasn't in his life anymore." quips Angeline about their relationship.

I specifically liked the part where Martin shared how he and Regine actually perform for free from some concerts of new singers and says it's a way for them to give back to the industry and help other people as a manner of paying forward. This is in the hopes of actually having them do the same when they are in the same position. I'll ask them about that in the next press conference which I think will happen quite near their concert date. Remember, February 13 at the MOA Arena, February 14 in Cebu Waterfront Hotel!

Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto at the Araneta Coliseum

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Sitting like Kings and Queens during the press conference of their long awaited concert entitled "Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto at the Araneta Coliseum", we were so delighted to hear the King and Queen of Theme Songs dish out their personal duet version of "This I Promise You" which was originally sung by NSync. According to Erik, the song epitomizes their relationship right now and if ever they had a proper theme song of their own, this would be it. Apart from their relationship, you're going to see a different set of songs to be sung in the concert that are personally picked by Erik and Angeline since the events conception, as they've talked about it during the past few years they've worked together. What's exciting is, they're utter yearning to do all of the songs they've dreamed of and doing it all in one event, in one place. I could see their eyes beaming of excitement when they mentioned some of them during that time and just imagine when they do these songs with extreme gusto because it'll be their rules, their show.

When asked about the lip sync issue, they both agreed that it would be great if singers of top caliber were given more breaks than the usual although they don't discount the more popular ones just like anybody else can do their own music and if that's what the public wants, that's what they'll get. Erik says practicality wise, Producers would want something good that will also earn so they can get their money back or earn off from it, that's what they do. Erik definitely has a point in that department. They also mentioned Ms. Lea Salonga's case where she did do it in an international awards ceremony when she couldn't do it live and had to still be there under those circumstances.

They obviously look good together and when I asked about why they're not calling it official, Erik told us that what they have is already pretty special. They're always there for each other and they know what their relationship is right now but they don't want to put labels on it. They are taking their time and want to still be with each other without any pressure from anybody else or perhaps if they are together, they don't want other people to tear them apart in public. Erik says "If we'll be together, we would be glad for everyone to know but for now, she's special for me and I know that I am for her, that's a promise we'd keep for each other." Angeline on the other hand says "Erik is the guy who's going to be there for me when I need him. He's the one who I go to when I need help and even though I don't ask for it, he does it like he knows I need it."

Their concert "Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto at the Araneta Coliseum" will happen on August 15, 2015 at 8PM. Special guests will be Martin Nievera, Ms. Regine Velasquez. Musical Direction will be done by Homer Flores and the show will be directed by Johnny Manahan. For tickets please call 9115555 or visit Ticketnet.com.ph now!
