Folks from building solutions Holcim Philippines just got served a rock ad by one of the most revered pop icons Chito Miranda of Parokya ni Edgar.
That's so smart since there's probably a lot of fans that are of the same age as people who adore him and the generational music he represents.
The corp has made him act as a sales officer, re-assuring customers that the construction materials they get from Holcim comes with innovation and is sourced sustainably. He also played the role of architect, contractor, and make watchers realize that you can get all the construction materials and solutions from Holcim, accompanied by rock music done just for fun!
They are the premier brand for construction projects, especially well loved Holcim cement which is quite popular around the country. This was also done in hopes of inspiring even more people to see how Holcim has helped a lot of people to build their homes, without breaking their construction budget.
This includes Excel ECOPlanet, a cement product that is environmentally safe. They also have Solido for low rise builds. The Optimo on the other hand is for high rise and the Wallright for the ones who needs Masonry Cement. For those who needs plasters, the one they call TectorPlast and TectorCeram would better fit your projects. All you need to do is just ask for it. Quality need not be sacrificed, with standards passed, Holcim definitely fits your next project!
Congratulations Chito! You're one good guy that has been trusted by so many brands, and now Holcim is with you too!
Are you into building? DIY? Or just fixing things? Chances are, you're probably going to use paint in one or more of these projects and in the Philippines. The direction is to make sure that lead would not be used in manufacturing paint. Recently, a Philippine company just earned their certification for being Lead Safe Paint particularly the ones under Roosevelt Chemical Incorporated.
The dangers of lead in paint has been already studied, proven and should be eliminated. Human health is prime, which is why we should act now. Even with laws passed, the Philippines is just one of a couple of countries that still sell them, but it should be stopped.
Hon. Gilbert Gonzales says "This is my second time attending this kind of forum with paint manufacturers. I'd like to congratulate Triton Philippines for achieving this. This has a great effect for human health, lead safe paints and the quality of it must coincide with environmental safety. They are aware of the ill effects of lead paints, the civil society organizations and our partners are slowly moving towards safe products. In everything we do, we hope we gain more businesses that look at the environment friendly products and why it should be the norm in the country."
Richard Cruz from DILG says "Paints are now lead free, it will help not just the folks who live in homes but the community they belong to."
Charity Agbayani from OPDS-DILG says "Traditionally, it contains harmful chemicals and with the improvements, toxins that are in paint should not be a problem anymore. Our homes and workplace should be lead free, so generations to come would not experience the harmful effects of it anymore."
Aileen Lucero of ECO Waste Coalition "Triton paints have passed standards and now proves how they are the right kind of paints. This is one concrete way of protecting our children from the harmful effects of lead in paints. The DENR, DILG, and you are all moving in establishing standards that would phase out lead containing paints in the coming years. The advisory which called government units to not purchase paint that contain lead is a step forward and we congratulate them all for doing what is right."
Solon Sy the VP for Sales and Marketing of Roosevelt Chemical Corporation says "We have always felt this is a step forward to the lead safe certification. This is our commitment to our partners, customers, for a sustainable future. This has been the result of expansive research, and we know that families will benefit from it. We are stewards of environment and health, and these lead safe paints will be at safe spaces. Thank you for your trust and making Triton Paints the right kind of paint "
Reginald Yu the President of Philippine Paints and Coatings Association says "We celebrate the remarkable achievement. In behalf of our organization, our heartfelt congratulations for being certified lead free. I've had the pleasure of witnessing their hard work first hand. They have been a pillar of excellence in the community and have earned our trust and respect. This highlights their commitment to excellence. They are now a benchmark for paint manufacturing. As industry leaders, family friends, their support have always been commendable. Our member companies want to push for industry goals, for the benefit of generations to come. We are assured there will be more, congratulations once again to the Sy Family, may your success inspire others."
Teodoro Cayetano the Municipal Engineer from Roxas Palawan adds "The efforts of the Triton Family and Roosevelt Chemicals did not just comply, but have provided a reiteration to executive orders and ordinances to become lead free in our town. It was just recently approved, ad we will be a partner to follow provisions of the law. I'll make sure to follow requirements and support Triton in using them in our projects, as we find their efforts phenomenal for our country and Roxas."
Here's part of the press conference on video earlier. Please, enjoy!
Triton, Rosco, Primecoat, Acri-Lux, Lotus paints and their other products are now lead safe certified. You get premium quality finish, sustainable and eco friendly products from Roosevelt Chemical Inc. Because of innovation, they were able to make this safe, economical, and quality. Their commitment to your safety is their priority.
Alarming. This has been what people in the press conference felt right after we were informed about this matter. You see, this worries me to know that it's been 12 years already that the steel manufactured in some parts of the country have been made with a steel bar process called Quench Tempered Bars. These type of bars are used and made for non structurally dependent structures like walls or fences, but not to be part of actual buildings.
Engr. Emilio Morales has published a study saying "My paper has been read by a lot of people but both local and international organizations have not challenged this and just kept mum about it. This is critical, the problem is TMT manufacturers have not been certified or tested - and when asked they only say they are still testing it, which is obviously an excuse. It's the manufacturer's responsibility and the need to warn the public should have been done 10-12 years ago. This has been banned in Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand and some only use this on non high rise buildings. Various international literature has also said in studies that it's earthquake performance could have premature failure." Now that is something I'd be worried about.
I've taken subjects for strength of materials when I was in college and know how important this is. Now think about it, in the past 12 years, how many buildings, skyscrapers have been put up in your area? Honestly, I would fear for your lives especially if they've used these particular type of steel bars that have not been checked for standards as it should be.
Madame Nikki adds "This has been kept in secret and will be historic, this should be known by the public and should know how dangerous it is. Micro alloy steels has been swapped in Quench Tempered Bars. The public did not know that this should not be bended, galvanized, or welded. This has been ignored and has been a disservice in the country. They have not asked for tests, this is the reason why we are talking about it, buildings that have been built in the last 12 years are affected. This is how big it is!." I could see how worried she was while saying this and I'm not surprised.
Now what's going to happen to all those structures that have been already comstructed, made and sold to tons of people knowing that it's safe? Your answer is as good as mine. For me it should all be identified, recomputed for the material that was used and hope that the BIG ONE doesn't happen. Imagine the tons of casualties that would probably happen while we're helpless with the way these steel products are still out in the market, proliferated and remain untested.
I've also personally asked Senator Nikki about her running as senator in the next election, and she said she's not running. If that's the case, this is a serious matter that we all should think about, ask your congressmen or representatives to investigate because we can't be sitting ducks out here and find those skyscrapers collapse. You wouldn't want to be under the rubble, in pain or lifeless.
If you hear the word VOLVO, what comes into mind? Of course there's the world class cars, but don't forget they also do heavy equipment, and they're very good at it.
Just recently, they launched the new VOLVO EC200D. It's an excavator, designed to speed up productivity, have fuel efficiency and safety in mind. It's around 20 tons, but what makes it different is the high swing torque and lifting capabilities. Now it would be easier for any construction professional to get the job done at a faster rate, safely. It can dig, lift, rotate and unload when needed. They also designed the Volvo D5E Tier 3 to have an output of 123 KW at 2000 rpm's and harness really strong hydraulics, in shorter cycles too.
It's so nice to see the new EC200 is also capable of lifting heavier weight, swing faster and still be stable when operating it. It only means this can translate into higher productivity, which could save corporations more money, faster and more efficient in any building projects.
The EC200 is now available in Southeast Asia, India and the Philippines through Civic Merchandising Inc. - Topspot Heavy Equipment Incorporated. They will also provide on site support nationwide as they have 30 services points across the country.

A few days ago, I was really happy to be in the midst of men clad in jumpsuits, work goggles, hammers and saws. They were all "builders" from all over the country and they converged at the posh Rockwell Tent in Makati. They went here to show who's the best in building a HardieMan home through various exercises and tasks of the HARDIEMAN CHALLENGE. Let's take a look!
There were about 12 teams who had to battle each other through skill challenges and I was so glad I didn't go through this bout with them. They had to put up walls, ceilings, floors using the same amount of equipment. But the first to finish isn't going to win this. They have different criteria to follow in order to be regarded as the best builder in the Philippines. Check out the leaderboards when I got there.
It was exciting seeing them all putting up the walls, floors and ceilings. But on the board there was also a part for the QUIZ. Imagine these brute men pushing pens. It tests not only their strengths, skills but of course their geniuses too!
They were also required to wear safety gears. You'd get disqualified if you won't wear them all. Then the action continued.
In the end, it was announced. Winners comprised of 1st place - Shuttershield, 2nd place - Cabico, 3rd place - Gentry, and some Special Awards were given to Best in Workmanship - Shuttershield, Best in Teamwork - Dreva, Best in Safety - Jonzlib’z, Best in James Hardie Knowledge - Shuttershield. I thought it was going to be CABICO because they were leading earlier but I guess the one who got the James Hardie questions right won it in the end! There were new stuff also introduced in the show. It's waterproof, fireproof and so easy to install. Make sure the next time you are building something, give James Hardie a call or visit local suppliers nationwide!
Congratulations to everyone who participated and I'm sure everyone will be back next year as they hold another HARDIEMAN CHALLENGE soon!
My cousin has been slaving away for the construction of their house in the province down south and I'm seeing quite a remarkable improvement in the housing conditions there. Flooring installation has been done and they are already on the finishing part of the house. It made the whole space look expensive and posh just by putting in hard wood looking floors. The overall look of the house together with the furniture and appliances is very cohesive and I love how it felt warm and inviting compared to the last time I went there. The kitchen itself was not forgotten and even the walls were installed with tiles breaking that vintage feel that they were going for previously. It now has modern clean lines on it that my cousin and her husband adore! We'll go there after a few weeks for the blessing and I must not forget to bring with me a house warming gift. Maybe a couple of pots from Mom's garden which she can turn into indoor accents wouldn't hurt!
Martha Stewart would surely envy her once it's finished because of the big garden she'd like to put up. The soil is so fertile on that part of the world so they will pretty soon have vegetables and fruit bearing trees for our family's consumption. I can't imagine how great that would look like to see how the kids would also join harvesting the crops. Things have been great and easy with construction and I wish they went through expert establishments like SEARS when it comes to installing all of that inside the house. It would have been way easy!
I am a good son. I have my folks asking me for things and I really want to give them all. Part of that is contributing to a house that we have in the south of Manila. It is a 4 hour drive that we take almost every week. The land was previously owned by my cousin but they planned to make a quaint village out of it. I saw them dredge the land and put in roads too. Most of it was heavily forested areas and the houses were all ours to think about since they gave us freedom to choose its design. There was a catch though because it was doubly hard to have a house built in the middle of nowhere. There was no electricity and they all had manual labor as staple ways to build a house. That didn't come as cheap as we expected even if it was supposed to be in a provincial rate. I just wish we had a chance to use a diamond saw blade so it would be faster cutting stuff but as I said they didn't have any electricity yet. I tried to get permits and all that brouhaha of permits from the local government. I was able to secure one and it was all nice! I had to pull some strings and had to tap local electricity sources and a gas powered generator to stand by. After a couple of months and a few hundred thousand pesos after; it was nice to know they had finished my folk's vacation home. Now they have a place to stay when they need rest and recreation in that part of the world. These are all for my parents who have gladly put up with me since day 1. I love them both!
Sometimes no matter how much you try to avoid things from happening it still becomes a reality. I do not really regret re-modeling the house but it has taken me quite a couple thousand bucks to have my room perfect to a tee. My beds spread are all new and I even bought pillows to match the comforter Mom bought last Christmas. I do not know interior design but I guess I know and appreciate good looking things when I see one. I guess when God spread blessings for aesthetics I think I have amassed a lot of it to say humbly. I would want to have my room to look perfectly finished and have a few pieces purchased for accent. Do I still have the same black and white palate from last year you ask?! Well let's just say I put in a splash of color here and there and I bought artwork to get the theme started. I do not want it to end up like a huge collage of fabric patterns which I think I did last year.
Today this is a huge step for me and the investment I did on the whole house is really worth it. I guess I learned to at least do less control over what I think is better for the place I stay in. I had doubts but I think even if other people do things in my place it was nice to see the result went pretty well. Believing in them may have gotten me somewhere and hey! It really is not that bad so if there is any consolation, I like it a lot just so you know! At least I get very good nights sleep!
