Huawei Announced Milestones During Developer Day in the Philippines

Phone and ICT giant Huawei just reaffirmed their commitment to improve the AI life in the country during the recent Huawei Develpment Day 2021. They showcased how they would be aggressively doing this by forging strategic partnership with existing educational institutions and companies with Huawei Philippines Consumer Business Group. The Cherry Mobile 3 Peat Launch

A few days ago, we had the chance of attending the launch of Cherry Mobile's newest products at the Hyatt Hotel in Manila. Honestly, I haven't been able to give Cherry Mobile a chance when choosing to buy phones because of rumors and the slack they've been having online. I had the impression that because they dish out cheaply priced phones, they'll have cheap built and quality too. I was proved wrong that afternoon, and yes I had my mind changed in a whole different way because I experienced one of the things they released that day first hand. Twitter Tweet Up! Live More!

I was ecstatic when I saw a Twitter Tweet Up was happening in Manila. Let alone that the actual people from Twitter were going to be here. Thanks to the good people from Smart Communications Inc., Smart's Social Media Team and Smart Bro for hooking us up just to get to see them in the flesh. From developers, social media professionals, celebrities, power twitter users and bloggers, it was a nice occasion to see the faces behind the usernames.

They started to show a short clip about how Twitter started and how a small social networking and microblogging tool just became a part of our lives. Today, Twitter has around 200 million registered users who send over 400 million tweets daily. The Philippines is a powerhouse and we ain't called the selfie capital of the world if we weren't one of the biggest countries in terms of traffic. You know how powerful we are trending various topics from Mactan to Tirad Pass. Aside from that, the executives, developers and engineers from Twitter were there to have fun with the Pinoy Twitter public!

And of course, the Philippines know how to party! The simple tweet up that was meant for 30 people just ballooned into 200 in just a few hours! Imagine that!

They went ahead and entertained our questions later in the evening. They also gave away official Twitter goodies by asking Trivia questions to the audience. Be the Ultimate XML Developers Challenge Superstar!

The ordeal of the 21st century, the greatest, supreme era of the digital age is far from over. I was browsing this evening to find great opportunities for the geek in me. I chanced upon http://www.XMLChallenge.com and found out that they are conducting competitions for XML developers. Now this is the chance I've been waiting for!

For those of you who do not know, XML is Extensible Markup Language which in lay man's term is still not lay man because this is a little complicated to explain I know. The World Wide Web Consortium is a huge body (with 434 members) that makes certain standards for the Internet. XML is a general-purpose term that they created for specifications in creating custom markup languages. If you try and search your computer's system files, maybe you have come across a ".xml" file. This is an example of it. It may be XHTML, RSS (bloggers know this from feeds), MathML, GraphML, Scalable Vector Graphics, MusicXML, and others. I know this is a little difficult to swallow for non technical people, but for geeks like me it rings a bell if your breakfast, lunch and dinner is customizing websites and changing open source codes. This is like the "ambrosia" of software and web developers.

With that out in the open, the site is holding a competition for students, faculty members as well as professional developers. The IDUG contest is held world wide so even my tech savvy friends can join. This is also to increase awareness and familiarity with XQuery, XML and DB2. All you need to do is one or all of these things:

• Upload a video
• Create a small widget or gadget
• Answer a series of questions by developing queries in XQuery.
• Port an existing application to use XML, XQuery or DB2.
• Develop a brand new application using the same
