Azkals Wants Philippine Peace and Suzuki Cup Crown

Saturday, June 07, 2014

The Mighty and Proud Silver Medalists - Philippine Azkals from the AFC Challege Cup
I was one of the few, no, millions of people who watched early morning games of the Philippine Azkals during the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives. It wouldn't be possible without the help of ABSCBN Sports who streamed these games live during the past few weeks while our boys fought for the country once again. They all appeared quite apologetic though during the interview because they wanted to have won the gold during the games; quite humble still for these guys right? Then they go on promising a Gold medal performance on the Suzuki Cup slated late this year. Now that's the Azkals spirit!

Azkals Striker Phil Younghusband
"The messages and support we received were overwhelming and we could have won the tournament but overall it was a successful bid. To the media, the fans, especially to the Filipinos who stood up for us when some locals jeered... thank you! we all support each other and we are all so close, even those who were in the bench. We're looking forward to the next one." says Azkals striker Phil Younghusband.

Team Manager Dan Palami can't thank all the players enough for their maturity and attitude because they didn't cause problems at all while they were there. He adds "There were many firsts here. First time to beat Laos, first time to beat Maldives as well. We have always set the bar high and nothing but the championship was the goal for us, but we are looking forward to putting Philippine Football on top in Asia. A pretty good feat on its own."

19 year old Sato says he's very thankful for the support of the fans and promises in the Suzuki cup that they will do their best next time. He declares "We will get that gold now" to the delight of the crowd that afternoon. "It was amazing, a little disappointing but we thank you for the support. The people, especially the Pinoys in Maldives felt like family.   We got seasick but we're alright." says Simon Greatwich who had some small issues with traveling there from other islands. He says it was really hard for them to practice and go to game venues because the only way to get there were by boats; but they were so thankful for the Continental Air sandwiches which they miss a lot! Even Anton Del Rosario had the same sentiment. He adds "Thank you to the people who put up with the natives there. We want to play with them again and I hope we don't go to boats again."

They joked a ton like that.

Dino Laurena head of ABSCBN Integrated Sports pronounces their support for the Azkals once more and reiterates they will continue to support the team by having their games broadcasted live so a lot of Filipinos continue to get inspired and love the sport. ABSCBN will be covering the upcoming Philippine Peace Cup, the Group Stages of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup and will be airing everything on ABS-CBN Sports + Action channel. This will all kicks off November this year so you better watch out for that!

Coca Cola Football Festival 2014

Thursday, May 08, 2014

Coca Cola, the nation's favorite drink just launched the fourth installment of the CocaCola Football Festival at the Ayala Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City. Over 230 teams and approximately 3,500 players from all over the country will be in this year's league as part of their strong support for the sport of football around the world. President and CEO Guillermo Aponte says it brings a lot of excitement and support for the sport and they are glad to be part of sponsoring something that would benefit all the regions, all genders. We are trying to cover Manila and the whole island of Luzon and perhaps other provinces soon because we hope to work closer with them. In the meantime we will try to do our best to promote football/soccer in the Philippines - as much as we can.

It will be played in 22 football fields and will be done simultaneously. They will also follow a 7A Side Football Format wherein they will be limited to 7 players. The schools and football clubs are only allowed one team in this cup. Last year, Green Barons, Miriam College, Xavier Football Club, the Makati Football Club, DLSU, FC Sikat, DLSU Zobel, Makati FC Elite and Makati Football School took home titles in different categories. I've also seen their photos on the lot while everyone was busy playing that afternoon. CocaCola will also be sponsoring their trophies and medals, some of which I saw being displayed on the sidelines.

Now, if you think these kids are just playing ball in a playground, think again.

These kids would probably run some professionals a run for the money but really, they are here for the love of the game. Now, if that isn't enough reason to cheer them on and support them then I don't know what will. They now have a different outlook in life because they are engaged in sports.

Coca Cola ultimately wants this to happen in every region, every place in the Philippines and slowly, they are gearing up for more associations and football clubs to join them really soon. Football is a priority sport that CocaCola has supported all these years. This includes FIFA and other union sports in Europe, US and Asia.

Thank you for sponsors like them that gets the youth where they rightfully should be. In the grounds, playing and winning. Can't wait to see who wins this 2014!

CLEAR Dream Match: The Draft 2014

Wednesday, May 07, 2014

Have you already voted? Or not? Well, you guys and gals have the power to choose among Team Phil or Team James on who will have the right to choose their legends just by tweeting or posting on Instagram. If you post these two hashtags #TeamPhil #ClearDreamMatch it will be Phil Younghusband who's going to choose the legend, but if you post #TeamJames #ClearDreamMatch then it will be James Younghusband who's going to choose between football greats Dennis Wise the former captain of Chelsea FC and World Cup winner or former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro. This also includes Manchester United's Paul Scholes and Andy Cole who will also join this year's festivities.

I also saw some of the last slots for Team Phil and Team James getting filled up! Check out these guys!

Some of these guys are prodigies. Even at a young age, they performed quite well in their respective football clubs. Now they're part of a bigger league that only Clear can deliver!

In the end, Team James ended up with mostly Meralco Sparks members.

Team Phil

Balot Doctora (Stallion FC)
John Cain (Army-GTI FC)
Matthew Hartmann (Loyola Meralco Sparks)
PJ Fadrigalan (Loyola Meralco Sparks)
Nick O’ Donnell (Kaya FC)
Roxy Dorlas (Loyola Meralco Sparks)
Kenny Daniels (Kaya FC)
Tating Pasilan (Green Archers United)
Yoshiharu Koizumi (Amateur)
Darius Joseph Diamante (Amateur)
Patrick Deyto (Green Archers United)

The big men on the other hand ended up with Team James. It was a mix for him.

Team James

Steve Yambou (Pachanga FC)
Jeffrey Christiaens (Global FC)
Andrew Liauw (Kaya FC)
Dae Han Kang (Army-GTI FC)
Marvin Angeles (Ceres FC)
Lee Joo Young (Loyola Meralco Sparks)
Chieffy Caligdong (Green Archers United)
Emmanuel Mbata (Kaya FC)
Roland Sadia (Global FC)
Francisco Jose Primo Santos (Amateur)
Eduard Sacapaño (Army-GTI FC)

The games will be played in the University of Makati. Last year was really tough because they had to battle it out in the rain and the rough muddy terrain in that place. Team James won overwhelmingly but Phil says he still wins by points overall. This game will settle the score. Believe me, the more good looking brother will prevail and have bragging rights for the year!

So make sure you gather your friends and go to University of Makati grounds this coming June 7, 2014. Wish Team James all the luck in the world! :)

Philippine AZKALS Win Versus Mongolia Blue Wolves 2-0 (Video Embedded)

Thursday, February 10, 2011

I was waiting for my Mom to arrive from Bacolod (yes she missed it by a few hours!) while watching the AZKALS VS MONGOLIA Match this evening February 9, 2011. I was so excited to see thousands upon thousands of Filipinos who flocked in Panaad Stadium who watched our home boys play with a lower ranked country like Mongolia. Yes we are the favored team to win this time.

I was sure that the Azkals would play with what they were known for, DEFENSE... but apparently this time they were the ones going to the goal several times and put the Mongolian Blue Wolves mum at 2-0. Caligdong scored the first goal for the Azkals which got the whole crowed cheering more at the 42nd minute. Here's the video!

Caligdong had to make sure you guys know his name ha-ha!

The half European Superstar Phil Younghusband also got a share of the loot a few seconds before the game ended. I was really waiting for them to score the second goal since he predicted this before the game started with TJ Manotoc. It was also a nice gesture for the Filipino crowd to cheer for the Mongolian players after their national anthem. Here's a playback of Phil Younghusband's goal!

Look at that! Just how many red shirts tried to stop that right?!

So it is clear that we have something to look forward to after this AFC season. They play for the love of the country so I hope and pray something happens to our team as we vie for the World Cup.... Yeah I know, libre naman mangarap diba?! (It's free to dream that big right?!) Ha-ha!

You Can Bet On It!

Sunday, April 18, 2010

I am ecstatic since my new favorite for this season the Cleveland Cavaliers is doing well in rapping up their opponents. With the season nearing its end, I am optimistic that they will get to finish dealing with the teams from the west like Orlando Magic and the LA LAKERS. LEBRON JAMES has been doing a good job keeping the enemy at bay even if they often choose to sit him down as some of the reserve players already can beat the big teams in the league. If KOBE plans to step up and monster out the ball without team work it would be easy for their defense to stop him soon. The coach probably has some few tricks on his sleeve. If I were betting between these two, I would choose the Cavaliers for obvious reasons. I like how this would turn out.

I wish the Packers would do have the same fate as they do. I really love football since they showed it on this side of the world. I would really love to get the chance and play it soon too. I prefer to be a quarterback if the team permits it. That would be really a dream. I would never want to see my teams lose. That would really make me worry for my own hopes in the sport. I have been playing bowling too much these days and I need to get some sunshine through these other ball sports. I will be doing this soon; you can bet on it!

The number one cause of developed heart problems is stress; a lot of people obviously are on it in one way or another. We make mistakes in taking this lightly, but for a couple of Wall Street guys... they did something great and converted this stressful situation into an enjoyable experience! Everybody loves Fantasy Football!

Yes, they have come a long way from their necktie bound executive jobs and invested their tools, trips and techniques in Fantasy Football. I tried playing this morning and I easily got hooked on this full statistics format they have on their web site. It is very detailed and easy to start. The best thing is; it is all for FREE!

Take a look at what they have got;

- Fantasy football draft software
- Fantasy football news
- Fantasy football analysis
- Fantasy football forum
- Fantasy football research
- Access to over 100 Local NFL team news feeds
- Fantasy football rankings
- Fantasy player comparisons
