McJim is Indeed World Class

Friday, April 27, 2018

You've never seen McJim this way. The popular Filipino leather goods brand has been imposing itself in the lifestyle accessories market utilizing local crafted products while looking world class, I can't say I'm surprised.

I have personally used leather bags, wallets, belts in the past and true enough, they have lasted years for me. The secret I think is the classic design, things that do not age or go out of style even if it's not in season. It's things that still match your wardrobe even if you wear something funky, something crazy, sexy, cool or classy. It's the ability to look good regardless of your mood swings, because it can stand on it's own.

McJim leather belts on the other hand comes with brown, modern black and reversible buckles, so you don't even have to make an effort to wear similar clothing, no matchy matchy themes because it can adapt to your style no matter how much you change tops or bottoms throughout the day.

I recently also changed wallets and even if I paid a little less than branded ones, I know my black McJim wallet would last a long time. In the looks department, I know I'm not shortchanged at all becaus I've always known that the Filipino brand McJim has always been world class.

Didn't you feel that when you had one? I'm sure you do!

McJim: Local but World Class

Thursday, February 22, 2018

I’ve been watching McJim Leather lately and they’ve gone quite great lengths churning out new designs that would be perfect for the classy Filipino man. Just a few months ago they did an international shoot in Montreal Canada showcasing some of the best pieces they have in their collection from black and brown leather wallets, casual to classy leather belts with proud buckles, shoulder bags, cross body bags, gadget bags, full on leather ones that would impress anyone that would see it. They’ve honestly been paving the way in changing the way people see how local products quality should look like. By making sure they have control over what comes out of their factories, and have it not just follow but set a trend of making these local products superior, making them world class, a direction they have undertaken regardless of how much it would cost because now we’ve got some of the best, and Filipinos are enjoying it.

These items now have the ability to mature elegantly and last a long time. That means that even if there’s a small premium in price compared to local ones in the market, you get your moneys worth because it will end up lasting a bit more as they prioritize quality. I’ve personally bought the wallets and belts which they sell in leading department stores because of that. It has lasted me for years and if it weren’t for a change in season (and a lot more membership cards) I wouldn’t have felt the need to change one because style wise, classics would never go passe.

They are going further, they had the opportunity to create great things and they have achieved it. I wish there was a way all other brands would follow suit so when you hear something LOCAL it wouldn’t mean we’re compromising quality. McJim is world class, and they’re not afraid of showing it. Might as well, if you pass by a kiosk in deparment stores, take a real good look at it and see how they’ve changed over the years.

Leather: Good Gifts For Men

Saturday, December 09, 2017

People are so fickle minded nowadays that they don't know what to give men these days. Let me tell you one thing, we are not hard to please. Gifting us is also not rocket science, a good massage, a good shirt, stuff from our favorite sport, gym equipment, I've got a ton on my list and let me tell you hunny, it's easy.

For those who think those things wouldn't work, the solution is sticking to the classics. Have you thought about giving your boy, your man or gramps some leather? Don't raise your eyebrows on me because dear, because if you didn't know... it actually feels special being gifted with it. There are belts, bags, wallets, even ones you could get at local brand McJim is good!

Their stuff? It's not that complicated. From things you could carry your gadgets in, documents, small ones for everyday wear, leather would and should work. It's got the ample amount of support, you'll even complete your outfit and get you to make your man look expensive. Mind you their shoulder bags and body bags are not that expensive. Heck you could buy a lot of it and not break the bank compared to other international brands that are of the same quality bur show up in their stores over priced.

Men these days, they are smart, confident, always can carry themselves well because it's not about the outfit babe. You can always look good if you accessorize in the right place, right time and occasion. Again it's not rocket science, take a look at McJim's Facebook page over at Facebook.com/OfficialMcJim for example because even the men from Montreal looked good with it. It shouldn't be that hard boo!

Great Men's Accesories from Neptune's Trove

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

I've been meaning to write about this because I've been in search for really good accessories these past few months. The thing is, I've found wearing a watch sometimes becomes a little too redundant these days especially because we all have our cell phones to tell the time. Now I know, I'm not alone. I know a bunch of guys would even gladly go out and not wear anything at all because style isn't a priority. That's sad because as far as I know, accessorizing with men should be simple. We don't need to spend an arm and a leg, and absolutely no fuss over how things should look like. It's a validation, for men to feel confident to whatever it is that you put on them.

The reason why I'm talking about this is because of Neptune's Trove. They sent me a care package a few weeks ago and I was delighted to see a startup engaging in men's accessories. There's only a handful number of people who do concentrate in a legitimate line of accessories for men so for me this was so much good news.

Neptune's Trove is the brain child of Renan Mendoza, an IT Analyst for a private corporation. I feel his passion, I mean, we've never met but the way he puts words in his emails felt really eager. When asked about why he did put up this business, he mentions "I wanted to follow my father's footsteps. He's an engineer entrepreneur and being involved in our previous businesses gave me the will to put up my own. Also, my father, Mon, inspired me that putting up a businesses can be an opportunity to help people - give them a decent livelihood and knowledge. I dream that this business of mine grow for me to be able to help those single mothers and youth by providing them jobs and craft knowledge to make them better members of the society."

He adds "My father is my inspiration. He is a self made man. He grew up in the slums and made his way up to be a successful person that he is through decent hard work. Because of that he was able to send us to good schools (Don Bosco and UST) all five of us siblings." that's cool.

When I picked up the box I saw three things, the first one of which is a Brown Leather Cuff Bracelet. I've already worn this a couple of times to events and just about everyday. It's classic, a bit modern because it reminds me of a snake skin pattern. I won't deny, I like it a lot. I think it's actually meant to be worn together with other bracelets but I realized it looks good on it's own. As I said, I wanted it simple. For a good week and a half, it stayed on my wrist in lieu of a watch and it did get a lot of attention. I was also purposely taking it off, I had to show it off LOL. I'm glad to note it didn't look cheap either.

Plus the lock was pretty neat. It just snaps together and looks good and seamless. I could imagine this even worn under a suit.

This one is too. It's called an Anchor Wrist Wrap which is basically made of paracord material - it's tough but a little elastic. It's a bit popular now, with good reason because this actually looks good together with other things like more bracelets or event watches.

I know his brand is called Neptune's Trove, but I wondered about his fascination with Anchors and things that are marine inspired in general. He replied "I love the sea! Or anything that affiliates with water. As a competitive swimmer myself, I feel alive when I see a pool or a body of water during travel/vacations! Not to mention that the sea is very comparable to my personality - calm, zen and at peace. Thus the brand name too! I invested in men's accessories because this is where I feel I should improve on. Ive considered myself a conservative type when it comes to business...my ideas always jump to businesses I'm familiar with. But this time,  I wanted to take the risk and test my capability as an entrepreneur."

He's also got it on different colors. This one is Bronze Tan, but I also like the other ones with the UAAP themes as he's got it in the different school colors. It's not that expensive either, it's less than a hundred bucks so if you are getting his from Neptune's Trove, you should get a lot. They've also got beaded ones which costs about the same as the leather cuff bracelets earlier. The market could really use some of these pieces because it's easy to use when you're in a suit or street wear.

It's classy, trendy, and can fit you in formal or casual occasions. You're also helping a startup that specializes in what men need these days, a promising accessory manufacturer that looks good on you and me. It's indeed a treasure, something so simple that's pleasing to the eyes without going overboard aesthetically or overly expensive. It's also the perfect gift for your Dad, brother, friend or boyfriend. Again, it's not that expensive and with the worth you're getting for every item, you're getting so much more in every piece.

I'd suggest you get multiple pieces so you can save on shipping. If you find this nice, I'd suggest you go ahead and Text, DM him on his social media channels or contact through Viber at 09162117267. I'm happy with what I have right now and I've been using it the whole time I was out of town and covering events. If it looks good on me, I'm sure it'll look good on you!

McJim's Dreams Get Real Season 2

Sunday, November 15, 2015

It was powerful, surprising, ultimately amazing to see the finalists of Dreams Get Real Season 2. It's the second installment of the successful Dreams Get Real campaign that popular leather products company McJim has launched since last year in the aims of discovering a new breed of talents and making their dreams of performing come true. The prize include Php 100,000, a talent managment contract, a full album and even a whole production of their music video.

Here's what happened during the event:

McJim Classic Leather presents Dreams Get Real... by kumagcow

In the end it was the vocal prowess and experience of Apple Deleva that got her to win the contest. She's already got several contests locally and won an international competition too. We saw her crying on stage while she was getting hounded by the press because she says "I don't want to join contests anymore because it's really hard for me and my family. It's not a joke, I hope winning this competition will now make my professional career as a singer take flight and hopefully make my dreams come true."

She's got a lot on her plate now and perhaps the prize money, the management contract, the video grant and the album she won from this particular contest will get her places just like the previous ones who also won in this competition. She might just be your next OPM star, and think about it... she's just starting!

Congratulations to the finalists and thanks to Mc Jim who has always supported the talented Filipinos and the OPM industry since the very beginning!

Monday, July 20, 2015

TheShop.ph team showing the ropes on how to navigate at the new MarikinaShoes.theshop.ph website.

We've marveled at the craftsmanship of the people of Marikina. As a shoeholic, I've seen countless foot wear made by local craftsmen in the city and yes, they're probably some of the best in the world. The generations of families that are all based here perhaps made Marikina the shoe capital of the Philippines and with fervor, they're going to be dipping their hands into something new. Specifically, it's e-commerce and what countless possibilities it could provide to not just business owners, but to craftsmen and their families. They're going to improve lives and communities, how you say? It's with the help of LBC Express Inc.’s TheShop.ph.

Mayor Del De Guzman and the LBC The Shop's Team

Mayor Del De Guzman and Marikina based MASIDO Shoe Manufacturers

LBC Express Inc.’s TheShop.ph partnered with MASIDO or Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office and the local government of Marikina City to launch the newest online shop MarikinaShoes.theshop.ph. Now, you'll be able to see 8 real deal Marikina based manufacturers here and it's all because they want the local shoe industry to flourish in the next few years. Getting the word out and maintain it in cyberspace would get exposure to a larger audience, an international one, isn't that a great idea?

MASIDO Technical Consultant Noel Box, Marikina City Councilor and Marikina Shoe Industry Development (MASID) Council Vice Chairman Mario de Leon and Marikina City Mayor and MASID Council Chairman Del de Guzman.

Mayor Del Deguzman and Marikina City Councilor Mario de Leon says "We are thankful for this collaboration with TheShop.ph by LBC. Through them, not only we will be reintroduced internationally, but this will also help our industry. We will be with you every step of the way in moving your products forward. We are not just going to deliver shoes, but also smiles to your customers doorsteps." He also assures their partner manufacturers that they will be with them in this journey, that's something really reassuring.

Looks like these international quality shoes are now heading their way to Asian homes, soon the world. I've seen several to my liking which includes the ones made of genuine buffalo and cow leather, the classic Spanish era looking ones and some boots. This will probably grow in the coming months and years, plus with the world class facilities that LBC has to deliver these all in your homes, there's great promise that you're not only going to get great shoes but help Marikina go out there and be the shoe capital of the world!

Congratulations to all the manufacturer partners of http://marikinashoes.theshop.ph! I can't wait to see those shoes on my doorstep soon!

McJim Announces Newest Endorser Anton Del Rosario

Saturday, March 29, 2014

One of the most reputable brands of leather goods and accessories McJim finally came out and announced their latest endorser Mr. Anton Del Rosario of the Philippine Azkals. This American born Filipino football player has continually inspiring sports lovers and their fans to be the best they can be no matter what field or endeavor they choose. Having been able to play for the national team for years, he says it's but an honor to have been chosen to represent the brand. His good looks, great body and classy exterior  no matter what events I found him in makes him even KUMAGCOW approved. He's a little soft spoken but very well dressed. I guess that part is a no brainer for McJim.

Anton also tried out the products himself. He was expecting nothing spectacular since it's a local brand. Knowing how some unscrupulous manufacturers in the Philippines work he probably thought it was okay to expect less. The belts alone made him think otherwise. He couldn't believe how much care and attention to detail was put into each of these pieces. McJim presented him with stylish, great quality leather goods that is world class. It's something very surprising to have in the local market, good thing I already know that because I've been using McJim for years now.

The quality and design of their new products were also seen by my compatriots. It all looks so good from where I was. I still have my McJim bag, belt and wallet around my artillery. It still works no matter how formal or casual I need to be. They've got this guy Anton Del Rosario to prove more how the brand can encompass any age group and any style. Rugged, classy or athletic, you can count on McJim to get you whatever stylish leather accessory that is.

That is good vibes.

NOT "Just a Shoe": The 2013 CONVERSE Weatherized Collection

Saturday, November 30, 2013

DSC_0034

Clothing is restricted to human beings. At first, it was merely intended for protection. It was intended to battle every force of nature your body won't be able to handle. This remains so true. Today more than ever, in every pair of shoe - you try to find your own IDENTITY; this is the same feeling of finding that certain "STYLE" that would best represent you. It's that moment when you would be able to make them see your taste, your hunger to appreciate things - and how you would like to be perceived by the world. All THAT just for a shoe - but THIS unfortunately... is not just a bloody shoe for me.

DSC_0035

This awesome Black Stitched Leather Shoes by CONVERSE is part of the 2013 Chuck Taylor Weatherized Collection. For most people, they are probably just seeing these as plain Chucks. For me, it's quite different. I'll tell you why.

DSC_0049
I'm John. I live in a small town in Quezon City all my life. I couldn't say I'm rich, I couldn't say I'm poor but my life is just about... right. I have no qualms with people. I live with memories of my childhood that would gladly pay a pretty normal upbringing, but really no.

I've been bullied a lot. I was too thin and dark as a kid that others used to call me palito or negro. With a Spanish lineage spanning decades of naturally good looks and machismo, you were bound to be ridiculed because of what you look and what you wear. Some people in my community including my childhood friends did the same - because Filipinos generally have a template for what looks good in their dictionary. Yet I never took anything against them, or anybody. It's a cultural thing I guess.

After the ill fated puberty, I grew up pretty fast. With a sculptured German physique + six pack abs (of course that's a joke!), became bigger, taller than the average Filipino, I loathed myself in getting better at EVERYTHING I do. With good folks at home, better friends and a promising career in view... I always wanted to keep my style in check so I get the confidence I needed to get there.

DSC_0054
DSC_0056
DSC_0059-2

When I saw these Black Stitched Leather Shoes on the catalog, I immediately grabbed it. It's non conventional exterior, strong stitched construction, tough and sturdy sole just spelled ME all over it. What I like about this is that it can pass for a more "casual look" since it's leather but still make you a bit edgy since it doesn't look like usual ones from the factory. The shoes DEFINITELY made me more confident, like a security blanket. THIS is also the reason why I never treat my shoes as "just a shoe". When I wear them, they make me proud. I become confident and get that needed boost because I know I look good with these weatherized Chucks all day long.

DSC_0054-3 DSC_0045

On a regular day, my essentials are NOT just plain essentials. I've been blogging since 2003. I carry around a DSLR camera, a Laptop computer, a shirt and a few things for personal "look" maintenance. Ladies call them "Kikay Kit", I call them "Macho Kit" why not LOL.

DSC_0047-2DSC_0046-2

I found this bag off the shelf in a Grape Leaf color (consequently this is also a part of the 2013 Weatherized Collection). It's big enough to fit those items I mentioned and size wise, something that I can carry. I'm not a fan of small ones since I find it more of an accessory rather than a REAL bag. This one was really comfortable, and yes this is pretty much FUNCTIONAL. It's what people like me need to get that exuding confidence I was telling you about earlier. Add this bag to the overall look and I'm GOOD.

DSC_0057

Aside from that, this might prove the fact that BIG boys like me need BIG Pitch Black bags like these. Whether going to the gym or just hitting the road for a few days, this is PERFECT.

DSC_0057-2DSC_0058-2

It even matches my shoes - it felt like serendipity. I am happy. I feel like the universe is coming together. With the unmatched quality and fare for things that look good, comfortable and functional CONVERSE has gone the extra mile to make you and I be the best version of ourselves with the 2013 Weatherized Collection. I've already decided to add this shoe (and the other caps, jackets and bags) to my still growing collection of Chucks at home. Now it's your turn and make that decision. Who knows?! The change you've been longing for all these years might start with "just a shoe".
