With Globe MyFi, You Can Do It All!

Tuesday, December 21, 2021

Life seems coming back to normal and yes, bloggers are starting to attend events and press conferences left and right. I've been working remotely on occasion, while it's hard to juggle a laptop, 2 mobile phones and a DSLR camera, I pretty much would depend on data that my postpaid phone would be able to accommodate. My iPhone is pretty ancient and yes, batteries are kinda dismal. So instead of putting it in hot spot mode all day, I needed something that can handle all my devices and save me some headaches when deadlines occur.

Meet the new Globe MyFi LTE Advanced, it's a device that can connect up to 12 devices. This only costs Php 1,899 and links to an LTE Advanced network powered by Globe. I took the liberty of powering one up because I needed it for uploading content fast, I've been known to do that right after a movie, press conference or event that I cover. It's actually pretty easy to set this up, and you can customize and secure the network if you need to.

When you open the box it contains the unit, a sim card pack, the battery, they Type C cable, the Quick Start Guide and the Warranty Certificate. Go and insert the micro sim, take note of the SSID and WIFI KEY at the back side before you insert the battery. You need this information to connect to the device so make sure you do that. There are two buttons on the device, the Wifi Protected Setup button (WPS) and the Power button located on the side. The reset button is inside the device when you open the flap. Turn it on, and wait for the prompt. It will indicate when a signal is available and also count the MB's that you've used. Got one of my phones and connected to the device, I automatically got internet connection because this has Surf4All99 or 9GB of data which you can use for all sites in the first 7 days.

To change the WIFI settings of your device, login to your router via 192.168.8.1 on your browser. Type in the username and password, I used admin for both and got to the interface above. This is the place you'll change your network name and password, if you want to elect a new one, go ahead and do it here. Save the settings and you should get the prompt that it has saved successfully. Then reconnect to your network with the new password you saved. Make sure you remember the router password so you can go back to the page if you want to change settings. If you forget the password, that's what the reset button on the device when you open the flap.

What I love about this device is the battery life. A single full charge could make this device last around 48 hours. Since its got its own battery, you don't need to depend on your mobile phones that drain too fast when its on hot spot mode. This frees up a lot of the power consumption I can use for social media, or other phone functions that I need to cover the whole day. Aside from that, I can share the connection to a few friends who would need it, that's very convenient for work and play.

I also downloaded the GlobeOne App to register the number and load it up using that. It manages the connection, and it's good that you can buy load and subscribe to promos all in one app. The namesake works, and I'm glad I'd be able to know more about how I spend my data, budget it especially since I already have a postpaid line. The convenience of having Globe MyFi is just insurmountable, I'd be glad to have this as my companion now especially if I'm going out for work. I hope you find that feeling too!

The Globe at Home MyFi LTE costs Php 899.00 while the Globe at Home MyFi LTE Advanced costs Php 1,899.00. For more information about these devices and other Globe products, you may visit their website at https://new.globe.com.ph/prepaid-wifi/myfi-lte. With it, Carry Mo Ang Lahat!

Take 20% Off on TP Link Devices This Shopee 9.9 Sale

Friday, September 04, 2020

I've been buying almost everyday in Shopee and I've been taking advantage of the tons of sale that has been happening inside the app. This whole month has been very good because of the upcoming big Shopee 9.9 Super Shopping Sale this coming September 9. I mean it hasn't even landed on that date yet and I'm getting good deals on groceries, fashion items (Fashion Friday tomorrow) and some tech purchases. I had to tell you some good deals.

I was a router engineer for a whole lot of my professional career so I know a little more than usual with these devices. The TP-Link TL-WR820N Router has good range and speed since it is an N router, quite different from the B and G routers we used years ago. This router can also function as an Access Point and a Range Extender. These used to be done by completely different devices in the past but because of engineering and software technology, almost anything is possible now. They also have the TP-Link Tapo C200 which is basically an IP camera that you can view over the internet or just wirelessly. Setting it up is a cinch and you can even talk to people live. I actually have one at home and it has been pretty useful monitoring people at home especially my folks who I don't want to leave unsupervised.

They also have the TP-Link TL-WA855RE which is a wireless range extender. People who have issues with wireless signal dropping off or not being able to see it at all can get these devices so they can repeat router wireless signals and cover those dead spots in the house. I actually have about 2 in my casa and it is seamless, the only thing you need to do is improve your speed too and it's going to be flawless after that. Check out TP-Link's official store here.

Now go download the Shopee app on Google Play and the App Store because the next few days is going to be crucial because more coins, vouchers and discounts from stores are expected. Best of all, it is going to be delivered to you while you stay right at the comforts of your home. Perhaps you should consider downloading the app here

Hurry before the 9.9 Sale happens, it is very near and I wouldn't want to see you miss that.

Meet The Linksys Velop Dual Band Mesh Wifi System

Thursday, August 02, 2018

Having wifi at your business and home seems to be more of a need now. Truth is, people who go to restaurants, coffee shops, any business establishment for that matter would probably ask about your wifi password so they don’t get nervous or agitated when they’re not online. These days, people who manage these establishments have little to no technical knowledge about setting up wifi adapters, routers, repeaters, access points, modems or gateways, or even have time for it. Hiring people to do the job even costs a lot, not to mention the grueling maintenance of it. I’ve had the privilege of doing that work for years so I know it’s not that easy. You also have to worry about protecting your own network, mind the importance of data security and balance it with the need of your customers convenience at any time of the day.

Linksys has been in the industry for years now, and what they have been able to do is to service small offices/home offices with some of the world’s greatest networking devices both when they were still under Cisco and now that they are under Belkin. The Velop Home Wifi Mesh systems for example made it easier to set up wifi networks so you the ordinary user can set up good ones without complicating things as they employ propreitary setup softwares, making each step of the connection and management of it an easy one. They even employ security, new standard technologies that include tri band and dual band mesh systems so you get excellent coverage no matter where you are in the office or at home.

These systems are seamless, use only one wifi name and can even help you conncect everything together via an app, tell you specifically where to choose a location for the other access points so you get latency, throughput or repeater related problems to not happen if you’re setting it up. This means there’s no guess work, plus you can manage guest access, security, parental control, even automated firmware upgrades so you don’t have to do it yourself. That means if there are firmware issues/bugs discovered on the device or new features added on the Linksys Velop Dual Band Mesh Wifi System, it would need less maintenance (which is a great deal if you’re managing a business).

3 nodes you can place in different spots, making sure you have proper coverage inside your home/office.

The 2.4GHz and 5GHz band would be also useful for your devices who work in that frequency. This can also work with B, G, N and AC IEEE wireless standard devices, tri band or dual band can also connect with each other, so those old ones can work with new ones in the same network - without any hitches.

Good thing is, this works fine with ISP supplied modem/gateways. If you are also iffy about wireless connection for your other gadgets, the nodes have 2 ethernet ports each so go ahead if you want to. It also self selects the clearest channel for your devices, if you’re very OC like me, I’d be very satisfied with its performance. They also took time designing this with simple clean lines, white profile so it doesn’t look ugly at all.

Visit linksys.com and their social media channels if you want to know more about it. I’ll have it in my home very soon, you should consider these in yours too.

Chasing Huawei Hotspot Hotties

Wednesday, December 23, 2015

Had fun a few weeks ago as Huawei had us chase around Huawei Hotspot Hotties at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Sexy vixens and good looking men started walking around the mall and we were given the task to spot them. They were carrying access points and the guys had the passwords so we could get connected to the internet, which means we also had to talk to them in some way. I was looking forward to capture them all in one photo so I did not get to walk around anymore and just stayed in the new Huawei store in the Cyberzone at the left wing of the mall. It's right on top of the SM Hypermarket's building so you wouldn't really miss it.

Aside from the hotties, there were three other stars of the show. One was the Flash LTE Pocket Wifi, the Spark Pocket Wifi and the Lightning LTE CPE Router. The FLASH has LTE speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload of 50 Mbps and can accommodate up to 10 devices. The SPARK on the other hand is 3G capable and can run 21 Mbps but is small in form. You can have it run up to 6 hours because it's 1500 mAh and turn on very fast! The router on the other hand is LTE capable, but can get you 32 devices connected. It's also got Gigabit ports so if you're into wired ones, this can perfectly work in your favor. I bet it's even better with SMART as your network provider (of course!).

Here it is on video!

The SPARK costs Php 1,890, the FLASH costs Php 3,990 and the LIGHTNING is Php 5,330. It's affordable and if you're always mobile, the thing can be always ON. That's the only thing you can expect with Huawei these days, they're just humble LOL!

Linksys Launches New SMB Line

Sunday, March 16, 2014

It was nostalgic to see the brand again; Linksys which I've been well acquainted "with" for the last 11 years has just recently launched their new business line tagged as Linksys Small Business which holds a few familiar network devices under its belt. If you remember, they had the RV series, some cameras and storage devices that were transferred to Cisco. Now that Linksys is with Belkin, they want to bring the legacy of the brand name back in small business. Hence, the aggressive release of a range of new gigabit switches, routers, surveillance cameras that are designed to meet the connectivity and security needs of small and medium businesses in the Philippines.

International Micro Village Inc. (Authorized distributor of Linksys in the Philippines) had a small luncheon in Conti's Greenbelt 2 a few days ago to brief the resellers about the new devices. Some press and online peeps were there too. Jai Thampi, Head of Product Management for Linksys in Asia Pacific, Japan, China and Middle East started by explaining about what happened with Cisco, Linksys and Belkin. In a nutshell, nothing has changed much. They will still exist as a separate brand and will continue to get the good things with Belkin and integrate that with Linksys products and vice-versa. They have been successful so far and starting off with new and improved products like these under SOHO devices will show how committed they are to make consumer lives better in the "network" and "Internet" side of things department.

Bringing back the heritage of the Linksys brand hence the best router in the market wrt1900. More technology and investing on more powerful hardware. Their brand research shows that their target market is still SOHO. They think about how the business grows and give the public fundamental working network devices. This is the Linksys SMB Product strategy, they will make their approach scalable so the network would be ready as your businesses becomes bigger.

He also mentions that pretty soon home automation on these products will be done much like the WEMO technology they do in Belkin products. Connect, Unify and Power. This is their call.

Shown above is their LINKSYS LCAD03FLN which is a 1080p 3MP Indoor Night Vision Dome Camera, LINKSYS LCAD03VLNOD 1080p a 3MP Outdoor Night Vision Dome Camera, LINKSYS LCAB03VLNOD a 1080p 3MP Outdoor Night Vision Bullet Camera and LINKSYS LCAM0336OD 1080p 3MP which is an Indoor/Outdoor 360 Mini-Dome Camera are all available in authorized resellers of International Micro Village Inc. nationwide!

They presented also two vpn routers, LINKSYS LRT214 and LINKSYS LRT224. The difference is just the 2 Internet ports. It also supports OpenVPN and EasyLinkVPN which makes things easy if you need to access your network remotely. IPSec VPN throughput is at 110 which is higher than other brands. They briefed the resellers pretty much with just these selling points.

I wish I could test these devices out in my home soon especially the VPN routers. Other than that, their security cameras looks promising. I didn't like what it aesthetically looks like though it might be a standard that they are following that's why it' looks like that (compared to the old WVC cams they had). Will I get to test them out soon? I hope so.

SKY Broadband: Faster Internet at 200Mbps!

Thursday, November 15, 2012

When I saw this sign right up front in Rockwell I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It seems impossible in this day and age to expect this in the Philippines but it looks like residential lines will be having the needed boost it deserves from SKYbroadband. I can't believe it! But it is true!

Ms. Lexi Schulze hosted the press launch and there were some big wigs on the tables next to ours like Cito Beltran. He was the most animated guy who posted a question regarding SKYbroadband services, it was tough but they took it lightly. Heck he even won an IPAD3. But kidding aside I was looking forward to test the speeds and got my phone to check of they are really that fast. When I downloaded a couple of mp3 songs and shut off my 3G phone connection, the download rates were quite impressive even on wifi. It was like seeing lines fill up in seconds which I've never seen my home connection do since I've had it.

They gladly compared the connection rates of 4G, Fiber Optic and other existing cable connections and with the promise of speeds up to 200Mbps it looks like this by far is the fastest! I asked bluntly about the speeds they are going to get because I've been configuring devices for these connections for years and you will only be good as your lesser performing hardware. They assured that together with the line they provide they've got the corresponding equipment to go with it so that the performance they promise on these lines would be at par with what they provide for residents of several places in Metro Manila. (call them please!) This package costs P34,999 and comes with a box called iRECORD so you can do what TIVO does. For movie fanatics you'll also have three additional HD outputs so your other TV's would probably be more useful. This will also come with 22 Full HD channels plus 100 other digital cable channels courtesy of SKYcable.

Mr Ross Legaspi tells us your existing connections from 4G and fiber optic connections can't really compete with SKYbroadband's 200mbps. Although Skycable does not have free trials they've got a money back guarantee for this and said "No questions asked" if proven they have not delivered as promised. They are the first to provide this Ultra High Speed Broadband connection so if you're up to it simply call their contact numbers below.

I've got WIFI!

My new Router! Weee! c^^,)

I just went to the mall this morning and got myself a WRT54G2... of course its Linksys heheh. Aside from that I bought a cooler and a usb mouse for the laptop. Now I can probably surf the net around the house! ^_^

I tried playing CABAL a while ago and was even able to get a level higher, but I noticed some lags while playing. I hope that is not gonna happen anytime soon. I would not want to have that problem other users are worried of. I wonder why I couldn't see any more wrt54g in the shops. All of them have this new model instead but I'm worried I would not have the same capabilities if I load a different firmware which I'm never gonna tell them about hehe.

Now that I have them rigged, my house is completely wifi now! I got it encrypted too so my neighbors won't get some hehe.
