JOLLIBEE Releases "30 Dates" and "To Love Again" on Valentines Day

You've probably seen the new Jollibee short films that have been released this Valentines day. I've watched it ahead of the pack as our best friend Jollibee gave us a screening a few days ago. These two films were directed by Paolo Villaluna who's got several films under his belt plus a few commercials which he has been part of prior to making this film. 

Guess what? They were there during the premiere! OMG!

 

Paolo is a fan of the previous Jollibee commercials and he (and his team of + Jollibee creatives)wanted a different take this year, so instead of actors, he wanted real people who had real stories to tell us what LOVE is. The first is called "30 Dates" and the second one is called "To Love Again". 

In 30 Dates, it stars 2 friends who wanted to make each other happy. The girl was having her birthday, so the guy figured what was keeping her happy... it was a Jollibee meal. So he sought to have her come to a Jollibee meal for 30 days. They dined in, took take outs, used the drive thru, and when it ended, the lady figured OMG, "I liked him already". They were just friends at first, but they developed something good over the month they've gotten to know each other. They now have a kid and more days to enjoy Jollibee again.

The second one called "To Love Again" was about a woman who married early, got a child, and got separated. After that experience, she thought she would never love a man again. During that time, a police man in training saw her and took interest in her. He really had to do the legwork and prove to her, and her family, plus a lot of naysayers that HE loves her... and her kid. He had to prove this by being consistent, and by really going out of his way to make sure that he would show how much he loves her... and her son too. Make sure to prepare a LOT of tissues because yes, this will make you cry.

Globe Does Drive-in Concert on Valentines Day

No plans yet for Valentines day? Well if figures, it's not that easy to do so because of the pandemic. Valentines Day Ideas During the Pandemic

For me, this time is important. It's been almost a year since we've all got locked in our homes and of course Valentines day is fast approaching. What do you do in a situation like this? I've done the legwork of putting these things together of some really good stuff hotels and brands are dishing out this February 14. Truth be told, there are really good ones out there and if you ask me, it's okay to dine out just as long as you follow strict health protocols. You're not just helping yourself in the process but also the businesses and employees.

Sofitel Manila

 

Sofitel's got your romantic date while the sun is going down, or covered while dining out under the stars. They have a new food truck which they aptly call The Food Truck by Sofitel. Aside from the usual international food they do so nicely, they've got aphrodisiac-ish items such as Foie Gras Sliders, Beef Brisket, Chicken Gyro, Sizzling Gambas and your hubby or boyfriend's favorite, unlimited beer! This is my personal favorite hotel to stay in when I'm going in and out of Manila. It sits right outside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport 3 and you can even walk there by foot from here. They currently have good breads including Ube Cheese Pan de Sal offered at the Savoy Cafe. They also have really good ala carte offers which is composed of Western and Asian dishes. They also have really mean salads and sandwiches too, so if you're up for a breakfast meet or snack, this would be a nice place to do it.

It has been a while since I’ve watched an acoustic concert but it has always been a staple for Filipinos especially as it patterns on our love for “harana” in ways to woo those who we love and perhaps get that special YES we always looked forward to. It was relateable, in a sense much like my videos. Even though you don’t know my brides and grooms, you suddenly feel it like you were part of the story and cry. It’s that same feeling we wanted to be in this story. I always ask people when they get wed on Feb 14 because prices of flowers skyrocket at this date. They do it and prepare ahead, this video shows the little things.”

Sin Island Showing on Valentines Day

Times have changed and so have the actors. Their goody two shoes characters are now doing sexy scenes, it’s a cycle and all emotions are on this film (as Direk Gino puts it). We spent the afternoon with the cast of Sin Island, a movie made and produced by Star Cinema. They’ve made similarly themed ones during Rossana Roces’ time but this time, Coleen, Xian and Nathalie will make your Valentines day a little hotter.

Xian says “It’s a sexy adult love story and it is new for people like me. The characters will undergo different things, it’s a different role, and I wanted to do this as my last project with Star Cinema. It’s very new and I had to ask a lot of questions. It felt uneasy at first and when Direk Gino were asking me to do things, he was there to guide us. It is a story of a marriage so there is a redeeming factor even if this is a little bit dark. I wanted to do as many roles as possible and I see my fans as very understandable, even if I need to take out the good boy, Kim and I talk about it but don’t meddle in each others affairs because as actors we have to reinvent ourselves. I consider it as my first very matured role, sexy in genre but I treat it like a different character. It really depends on the story, we are artists. At first when we did the workshop, it was different, I thought Coleen was not game but she’s a cool person. Nathalie had a lot of ideas, I guess barriers were down after a few days. I felt very excited doing this even if there are a lot of people watching in the shoot. I think too much, but Coleen is very relaxed, she was even eating spaghetti before we did the love scene. Nathalie didn’t talk too much and didn’t plan things, we just went along with it. People are no saints, have darksides, we let the bodies do the talking. Kim is busy and has work, but I invited her.”

I am Nathalie Hart because Princess Tinkerbell is just not good when you’re growing up. I didn’t want my own family to see Siphayo (where she won an award) but for me this one is a bit challenging, a very mental character where half of it is me and half of it’s not. When I did it, it was easier and didn’t have to cry. I like when they see that I could do other things too. Later I am doing another movie with Diether Ocampo and I think they love me. We want people to know about it and discover during the movie on how the story becomes complicated. I love how Star Cinema made the trailer because it doesn’t tell much about what will happen in the movie. I knew Xian had a relationship, I just needed to push and finish the love scenes and there are a lot of awkwardness, but working with different people means it’s a totally different story. It was working with Star Cinema, these artists, and the other projects they had for me that got me excited. This isn’t just sexy, it’s just a small part of it and mostly is proper acting. It was awkward to talk about it so I joke around and just do it. We have to look the part, to look at him and fall in love with him so our characters becone real.”

Coleen says “It’s my fourth time working with Gino so I am quite comfortable with her. Billy is super supportive, we support each other regardless, it just depends on the role and story and I’m game for anything. I just learned the value of fighting for love, it’s only now with the right person that I find it to be worth it. This is the sexiest movie I have been in and it’s the bravest, most daring and edgy movie. It’s very different, but Billy is excited to see the scenes I already told him. As a couple, it’s more with love, and that should show on the screen.”

Direk Gino adds “We had workshops before the film so I really had to know what makes them tick so I could find out who they are. In the love scenes I just had to make it light and comfotable for everyone. We did it for eight months, there were changes along the way and wanted it more daring. It was passed to management, very risky so we had to stop a few times. It was new but when they saw the rushes, they had time and confidence to push through. I am glad it’s uncut, it has R16 rating. I hope people watch Sin Island, it’s going to be very busy for us and we will have different screenings, partners and friends for screenings.

Karylle holds Date Night at Manila House

Had the chance to interview the gorgoeus Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon earlier at a restaurant earlier in Quezon City. She was blooming, you can see it in her eyes and she was so excited about what’s about to happen in Manila House, the exclusive members only club in BGC. They’re allowing people in for this valentine’s day concert that they’ve entitled DATE NIGHT and this very intimate place would be a nice place to start your evening.

Karylle says “Everyone has a perfect date and this is mine, the most beautiful place in Manila, lots of art, and every corner is instagrammable. For those finding something the perfect place to hang out and chill, this is it. I invited my band the Passport Holders, gifted singer Charles Kevin Tan, my good friend Kris Lawrence, and special cocktails overlooking BGC. It’s in front of the old fort, at the Net Park building. It’s a secret place with exclusive membership but they’re opening it for the public on Valentines day. It’s a very light gig, like a cafe. I would like to also invite you to the Ishin-Denshin International Music Festival concert for Marawi, I’ll be with international artists, local stars to help rebuild the city. We always do concerts during these months but it’s going to be more intimate. I like to setup little parties, this will be new for them and I want to leave a lasting impression to everyone who’s gonna watch and I’d like to do that.”

She adds “I would like to do a song from the musical Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko so expect me to actually have something from that show. I cannot say no to musicals so if someone wants to produce it just please let me know. There are years that I do big shows but I’d like to sing for couples, I find when I sing close to someone very nice, I’m super old school. Ed Sheeran is my romantic muse when we got married, Yael always watches shows and live music gets me into the mood. It feels good to be alive if you’re in that groove. We did a concert in Shangri-la last Christmas, we are recording right now and sometimes I let Yael listen to it before I do it, even my Mom. Date Night for me is a Sunday, like a lazy afternoon, I look at my Booky App and we go to more than one restaurant and a lot of walking outdoors. Some of my favorite spots are Poblacion, the Fort, in art installations, it would be nice to take strolls.”

She was also asked about the status of Vice Ganda’s health and she mentions “Vice reminds me to always think about my health seriously, he works hard and I always have a good idea of her schedule and I hope she gets to also rest.”

About the concert, Karylle adds “You’ll hear standards, romantic songs, and I hope they like it. Froilan is such an amazing singer, one that you should listen much too. I’ll be also working with other international artists, ones that I have already worked with before and you’ll see that soon.”

Although they won’t be celebrating Valentines day together as both Karylle and Yael will be at work on these dates, she shares “Yael is super romantic, he sings for me to entertain me. He inspires me to write, and that is a good thing.Yael and I will probably spend holy week somewhere in the US or Korea, we’ll flip a coin. That’s where we usually do big vacations to meet friends and family.”

Ms. Aiai has already cemented her title as the Concert Comedy Queen and she's not about to stop anytime soon. The last time she was on stage was ages ago (headlining with no less than Asia's Nightingale Ms. Lani Misalucha) and I'm sure people must have really missed her. She knows so she's ruffling all the feathers, taking out her glitters and promising that you will have a good time.
