With Globe MyFi, You Can Do It All!

Tuesday, December 21, 2021

Life seems coming back to normal and yes, bloggers are starting to attend events and press conferences left and right. I've been working remotely on occasion, while it's hard to juggle a laptop, 2 mobile phones and a DSLR camera, I pretty much would depend on data that my postpaid phone would be able to accommodate. My iPhone is pretty ancient and yes, batteries are kinda dismal. So instead of putting it in hot spot mode all day, I needed something that can handle all my devices and save me some headaches when deadlines occur.

Meet the new Globe MyFi LTE Advanced, it's a device that can connect up to 12 devices. This only costs Php 1,899 and links to an LTE Advanced network powered by Globe. I took the liberty of powering one up because I needed it for uploading content fast, I've been known to do that right after a movie, press conference or event that I cover. It's actually pretty easy to set this up, and you can customize and secure the network if you need to.

When you open the box it contains the unit, a sim card pack, the battery, they Type C cable, the Quick Start Guide and the Warranty Certificate. Go and insert the micro sim, take note of the SSID and WIFI KEY at the back side before you insert the battery. You need this information to connect to the device so make sure you do that. There are two buttons on the device, the Wifi Protected Setup button (WPS) and the Power button located on the side. The reset button is inside the device when you open the flap. Turn it on, and wait for the prompt. It will indicate when a signal is available and also count the MB's that you've used. Got one of my phones and connected to the device, I automatically got internet connection because this has Surf4All99 or 9GB of data which you can use for all sites in the first 7 days.

To change the WIFI settings of your device, login to your router via 192.168.8.1 on your browser. Type in the username and password, I used admin for both and got to the interface above. This is the place you'll change your network name and password, if you want to elect a new one, go ahead and do it here. Save the settings and you should get the prompt that it has saved successfully. Then reconnect to your network with the new password you saved. Make sure you remember the router password so you can go back to the page if you want to change settings. If you forget the password, that's what the reset button on the device when you open the flap.

What I love about this device is the battery life. A single full charge could make this device last around 48 hours. Since its got its own battery, you don't need to depend on your mobile phones that drain too fast when its on hot spot mode. This frees up a lot of the power consumption I can use for social media, or other phone functions that I need to cover the whole day. Aside from that, I can share the connection to a few friends who would need it, that's very convenient for work and play.

I also downloaded the GlobeOne App to register the number and load it up using that. It manages the connection, and it's good that you can buy load and subscribe to promos all in one app. The namesake works, and I'm glad I'd be able to know more about how I spend my data, budget it especially since I already have a postpaid line. The convenience of having Globe MyFi is just insurmountable, I'd be glad to have this as my companion now especially if I'm going out for work. I hope you find that feeling too!

The Globe at Home MyFi LTE costs Php 899.00 while the Globe at Home MyFi LTE Advanced costs Php 1,899.00. For more information about these devices and other Globe products, you may visit their website at https://new.globe.com.ph/prepaid-wifi/myfi-lte. With it, Carry Mo Ang Lahat!

Huawei's Got Green 5G

Tuesday, October 19, 2021

In the recent Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei's Executive Director and President of Carrier Business Group discussed Green 5G Networks for a Low-Carbon Future. In it, he reiterated how the technology would spur growth especially with the increase in data traffic. Harnessing innovation in the way it consumes energy should also be done in technologies involved in power supply, distribution, of its use and how it is managed. It should perform at a higher degree but have lower energy consumption over all. In a sense, it's an effort to build more green 5G networks.

The problem currently is that there's small penetration of it in countries and they won't see its returns and value if it ain't utilized by a greater number of people. According to him, 5G drives rapid growth of mobile data traffic and at the rate that it is going now, energy consumption will be ten times higher if switching to it doesn't happen. They have a range of products that addresses this including iSolar power supplies. It will lessen dependencies on fossil fuel. He also mentioned that this has been utilized in over 100 countries, slowly inching their way to put green efforts in everything they do. Quite noble if it gets traction. It'll be nice to see things realized especially the green results they want to happen even before that year.

You may check huawei.com for more information about this.

Spruce Up Your Work and School Spaces with Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi

Monday, September 06, 2021

You've been working so hard at home, some of us are still studying online. Have you thought of tidying up your space? Or maybe look for things that could speed things up? How do you maintain work life balance during these days when everything seems so stressful? Here are a few things you can do to make it better!

Fix Up Your Space

You spend quite a number of hours in your work/study area so make sure it's comfortable. It should be conducive for what you are doing, so you have to make it clutter free. If it's something that you're not using for days, put it in proper storage rather than on top of your table. If you're using gadgets, a desktop computer, tidy up the cables and make sure it's not spread around. Hook it up or put cable organizers. Put pens and pencils in one place, cutters and scissors in another. Making it clutter free will also make you think clearly, put you into zen mode especially on those days when you're stressed and pressured.

Speed and Reliability of your Internet Connection

Work, study and play won't happen if you don't have internet connection these days. I've always used data but always end up with a heated phone because it can't handle all my workload. Aside from that, everybody else at home needs internet. Globe’s At Home Prepaid Wifi was a lifesaver for us during a line outage in my locale. It's super fast and reliable because it connects to LTE. You can also share internet for other devices and people at home. It's quite affordable too because they've made it easy to load and subscriber to sulit promos. You can opt for the HS199 code which has 30GB  of data which you can use for 7 days. Pretty cheap, but amazingly fast.

Observe Work-Life Balance

The stress will also be there, but of course, if you're already working at home, where do you draw the line? If you work in the office from 8-5pm in the past, you should do the same even when you're at home. Truth is, some of us are even more efficient because we're more relaxed in our caves. But once work is done, it should be done. I used to never take vacations in the past, and it ended up making me burn out quite a bit and uninspired. Make time for family, for friends, because the amount of time you spend with them are precious. It doesn't have to cost much, make memories with them and don't even hesitate to tell them how much you love em. A simple game would do. Trust me on that.

By the way, if you're looking for things that can spruce up your space at work or at home, you can purchase the Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi through Globe's official store in Lazada. You can also get the chance to win Coocaa 55 inck 4K capable Android 10 and Smart flat screen Ultra HD LED Frameless TV worth Php 24,490. You can connect your devices to it too and the internet, so you don't have to make a fuzz when you need to look up things on the web. It's only available from September 1 to 30, so hurry!

Celebrate Freedom with Free WIFI at MRT Stations in EDSA Today!

Monday, June 12, 2017

If you haven't been paying attention lately to what's happening in Metro Manila, you might have missed one good thing at the MRT stations. I had my phone's WIFI ON one time and I noticed some external routers have been installed on walls of the MRT stations. I know because I've configured things like these for years (Hello Cisco!). Apparently, Smart has been working nonstop for the past few months to bring something good for Filipinos. It's FREE WIFI!

There's one at the back of this beer bottle.

You can also see them on the back of the phone antennas right at the top of the long stairs of the MRT station. I saw how MVP was kinda hinting about this on his tweet a couple of days ago. Remember this?

The busiest highway is EDSA of course, and what better way to celebrate FREEDOM but by getting FREE WIFI! Imagine blazing internet speeds that can accomodate 500 users at the same time per access point with unbelievable MB's per second given FREE for the first thirty minutes of use! You can't beat that at all!

Look for the SSID indicated saying #Smart Wifi @ Edsa and connect to it. It will ask you for your phone number and you'll have to input that too.

And as for the speed, this one measured from a Hong Kong server went off the charts! Mind you I was just downstairs and I'm already getting something phenomenal wirelessly!

You can upload videos, play games, browse facebook all day so you can get to enjoy momentd with your family! If you are done with the FREE minutes, you can always top up and use it even longer by going to retailers at these stations and pay 20 pesos for 2 hours worth of surfing valid for 2 days. You can also pay 50 pesos for 5 more hours valid for 5 days. You can also convert your existing prepaid load on Sun, TNT and Smart to wifi credits by sending keywords WIFI10, WIFI20 or WIFI50 to 9991 and it will get you the corresponding minutes as easy as that!

If you want to know more about it, check out Smart's channels, FB page and @livesmart at IG and Twitter. Isn't that a good thing to have on our independence day? This is a project of Smart to complete it's promise to DICT and the government under PRRD.

It's as fast as 300Mbps and has no data cap! So enjoy! :) cheers to freedom like no other!

#SmartSpots ARCA Yard Valenzuela

Friday, June 09, 2017

I finished my Computer Engineering course at the University of the East Caloocan Campus and I had the privilege of making tons of friends during those years way up north. I live about an hour away from school and I've been missing a lot of happenings with friends because I live too far. I didn't know they had tons of food joints and establishments put up in that part of Valenzuela City already. My friend invited me to go to ARCA YARD in Valenzuela City located a block away from the district of Karuhatan, a small town where most of my classmates lived during those school years. I braved the traffic and journeyed there, I arrived a little over an hour and a half as traffic was really horrible in the turn bound to the North Expressway in Balintawak.

ARCA YARD is owned by a couple who believed they needed to help their friends and other people who are doing their first time food ventures.

It's like a complex of food establishments who present a variety of viands and beer matched snacks while still keeping it family friendly. I like how they kept it so nice and welcoming despite the fact that these structures are pretty much made of ship containers built for product transport which they stacked and weld together.

I was there too for Smart as they were also launching #SmartSpots. They put up SMART's great WIFI connection for FREE as they have done this already in similar food parks in Pasig and Makati. This is part of Smart Communication's promise of bringing internet connection closer to home.

During the party, all the owners of the restaurants abd establishments at ARCA YARD welcomed the development and service that Smart is providing. Smart's Gabby Cui laments how it was easy for them to convince ARCA YARD's owners as they both see this partnership beneficial to their patrons, and for them to also experience how it's like to be connected with the BIGGEST network.

Here's what he said during the event and also some snippets of Paulo Santos' performances on video:

The place was always packed and business has always been good because it has been frequented by locals, some from nearby cities and even celebrities.

Connecting to Smart's wifi network was east too. Just open your phones wifi, connect to the network, input your phone number and you'll receive a code. Put this code on the prompt when you connect and it will tell you how much time you have left in this wifi's blazing speeds. Aside from that, you can also get tons of discounts from the actual establishments of ARCA YARD. So I tried the best thing which is 7XABKEBAB. It's a kebab place owned by a young couple who just ventured into the food business.

The concept is simple but they have localized this special middle eastern favorite. The difference is that they pan fry the meat instead of let it all hang out in a roaster so you don't get that forced charred flavor. You'll experience how the good, sweet and savory meat is supposed to be.

I got two dishes, one is the Beef Xhawarma Rice. Don't be intimidated about how they spell things because as expensive looking as this may seem, this is actually dirt cheap, I won't find anything of this price point in QC. Oh and do you see that BUTTER over the rice? Haha.. I guess I don't have to convince you right?

The Beef Xhawarma with Pita is equally nice for non rice eaters like me (sometimes that is). The Spicy Yogurt Garlic sauce was thick, it won't be that messy. It was served hot and on my table, you don't have to wait in front of the shack. I loved it every bit!

Now how can you beat something good up north? With the lovely food, tons of booze, the flashy place and blazing speeds of the wifi, ARCA YARD could well be your favorite #SmartSpots when in Valenzuela City. I mean how in the world could I have uploaded 5 videos while munching on the food and downing a bottle of beer right? Make sure you visit ARCA YARD today!

Philippine Airlines Launches myPAL Roam

Thursday, July 21, 2016

It looks like Philippine Airlines and their group of companies are pushing the envelope on this one as they launch their own global internet hotspot called myPAL Roam, a global mobile hotspot that promises to connect you in over 80 countries in cooperation with Skyroam. Skyroam in itself isn't a mobile company and doesn't use sim cards for their device to work. Their service actually connects directly to whatever local telco, of course it's better with SMART. They apparently give you the local HSPDA+ connection rates for only Php 490. That means there will be no bill shocks for people like you who often go out of the country. This device can now be rented through PAL Boutique located in the PAL Ticket Office lobby of the PNB Financial Center in Pasay City (at the back of World Trade Center), NAIA Terminal 2 Departure area or via roam.philippineairlines.com. The device may be returned to the PAL Boutique NAIA Arrival area or On Board Return Service (yes inside the plane!).

"In partnership with Skyroam, you can ise this in over 120 countries worldwide. This is the latest addition to what PAL has been offering onboard. PAL moves closer to our goal to be a 5 star airline in 5 years and it underscores our philosophy "The Heart of the Filipino", we hope to power your adventures!" says Mr. Jaime Bautista of Philippine Airlines.

Camie and Kimi, lifestyle and travel bloggers who also used myPAL Roam in Bali.

myPAL Roam is the latest addition to Philippine Airlines service innovations together with myPAL Player and parts of the myPAL eSuite. I've shown you their fashion show a couple of weeks ago when they launched PAL Boutique where they have Filipino products exhibiting our own talents and craftsmanship. If you might have forgotten that show, here it is!

In a nutshell, I think this is much like what they use in Japan where people rent out the device and return it (literally throw it on a designated box). This one however can be taken elsewhere which is also convenient but it still has it's flaws (I heard data caps) but is good as an add on service.

Chasing Huawei Hotspot Hotties

Wednesday, December 23, 2015

Had fun a few weeks ago as Huawei had us chase around Huawei Hotspot Hotties at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Sexy vixens and good looking men started walking around the mall and we were given the task to spot them. They were carrying access points and the guys had the passwords so we could get connected to the internet, which means we also had to talk to them in some way. I was looking forward to capture them all in one photo so I did not get to walk around anymore and just stayed in the new Huawei store in the Cyberzone at the left wing of the mall. It's right on top of the SM Hypermarket's building so you wouldn't really miss it.

Aside from the hotties, there were three other stars of the show. One was the Flash LTE Pocket Wifi, the Spark Pocket Wifi and the Lightning LTE CPE Router. The FLASH has LTE speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload of 50 Mbps and can accommodate up to 10 devices. The SPARK on the other hand is 3G capable and can run 21 Mbps but is small in form. You can have it run up to 6 hours because it's 1500 mAh and turn on very fast! The router on the other hand is LTE capable, but can get you 32 devices connected. It's also got Gigabit ports so if you're into wired ones, this can perfectly work in your favor. I bet it's even better with SMART as your network provider (of course!).

Here it is on video!

#HuaweiHotspotHotties #ExperienceHuawei Event at the Mall of Asia Cyberzone
Posted by Kumagcow on Sunday, December 6, 2015

The SPARK costs Php 1,890, the FLASH costs Php 3,990 and the LIGHTNING is Php 5,330. It's affordable and if you're always mobile, the thing can be always ON. That's the only thing you can expect with Huawei these days, they're just humble LOL!

PISMO Digital Opens New Store In Eastwood City

Friday, December 18, 2015

Yes! They're open now at the Eastwood Le Grande 3 Building's Ground Floor and offering the latest and best brands you can think of in phones, cameras and accessories. It's Christmas season so what opportune time to do it right? Here are some of the items I saw inside the new Pismo store.

They had us take photos using the Polaroid Cube and other cameras on their line. They also got us to test printing via the Polaroid Bluetooth Printer which you can use with your iPhone without the need of disconnecting from the wifi.

Linksys WRT1900AC sells around Php 14,990, you might think it's expensive but this is the BEST router there is in the market. I've worked with this so much literally but of course, you can only be as great as your existing connection. I wanna have one Linksys, yes? LOL I know you're reading this!

For smartphone lovers, Android users rejoice as the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone Selfie is here too. It retails quite the same I think, but since they're a store you can probably lay away with credit card purchases which would be easier for you.

For GoPro owners like me, lookie here! They've got several attatchments and GoPro Poles you can choose from. Some are cheap, some are really expensive but again since this is a store you have lots of options.

For those who love the outdoors, walk no more with these Segue and Smart Balance Wheel which is so popular with kids now. You should get one before stocks run out!

I also love the Parrot Drones. They've got indoor ones and outdoor models. Some last a few minutes to around 26 minutes for the professional ones. It's around 16K so if you're looking for one, you should experience it here first then decide which one to buy. Yes they do have test units you can use before you purchase them!

I also saw cellphone accessories, huge designer speakers which might interest you. I'll be looking around and wish this was my home lol. Congratulations PISMO on your new store in Eastwood City!

Ciao!
