Marites Allen: Letting it Be, Letting it Go in the Year of Wood Dragon

Saturday, December 02, 2023

It's almost 2024, and yes, we're raring to know what would happen to us in the Year of the Wood Dragon. In Chinese Zodiac, Dragons have the innate ability to lead, yes they are born leadeers. If you're raring to get a kid these days, this is the opportune time to do it. Dragons are also diplomatic, but they can be very funny if needed too. They have the ability to do good in business, they also don't hold back giving, the generous ones get the perks. The Queen of Feng Shui Ms. Marites Allen gave us a few things to look forward to in the Year of the Wood Dragon.

The essentials of course are all in the Almanac and Planner that they have available for 2024. It's a collectible, hopefully will have value in the near future. They also announced the Feng Shui Conference on January 14, 2024. There will also be a Chinese New Year Bazaar on February 7-9 plus more activities on February 9 as we countdown to the Year of the Wood Dragon. Here's our video coverage of the event last month, this is the media conference and launch of the books!

Dogs need to be careful especially in relationships, while Monkey Dragon and Roosters need Communication for the year but before that, make sure you do something for yourself. Risk taking and technology based businesses will be better for you. Rats on the other hand need to enhance their wealth, go get charms that would be able to help you with that. Tigers have to be open to receive abundance and miracles for the same year. For the Rabbits, this is a year of transformation so go change up when you desire it. Snakes need to be careful as illness might come. Monkeys have vibrant energy to spend, so does the Roosters. Dogs need to also change up, like jobs, looks and even your bedrooms. Horses might have a great year of wealth last year, but this year you need to enhance it. Other details will be on the books they will release for this year.

Her son Kirk Allen also introduced us to an AR feature on these books. You can scan it with the Marites Allen app and an egg will appear. It's like Pokemon, and will crack on Chinese New Year, so I'm looking forward to what it'll look like on February. There are tons more to look forward to, so make sure you get tickets to the event especially on the Feng Shui conference where things will be explained in detail. Charms and books will also be available in those events, make sure you're there!

I'd like to take this bit and thank Ms. Marites Allen and their team for having us that afternoon. It's a nice way to see peers in the industry, and friends too. Can't wait to see what's going to happen in the Feng Shui Convention come 2024!

Yes, it's going to be a year of letting it be, and letting it go, what or who do you have in mind that need to do this?

Solignum University Tour

Wednesday, November 21, 2018

Is your house made of wood? Maybe the walls, floors, windows? Have you ever had termite problems at home? If not, it's probably because your wood is protected by Solignum. Jardine Distribution Inc. who manufactures the products has been protecting your home for years now and they know they still have a long way to make sure people are informed about putting appropriate wood treatment so your home is protected from pests and make it last for years. So if they can't make you go to their office, they go to your campuses instead.

A few months ago they alread went to Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Quezon City. Last July 30, their students got a treat as they got briefed about the brands lineup to protect their client's home.  They also went to TIP Manila last August 17 and visited Immaculate Concepcion College in Davao August 13 because these are schools who specializes in Engineering and Architecture. The btand believes that if they started from the future engineers, they would be able to educate them about the benefits of it, assuring information gets accross generations including the up and coming experts through a forum called “Empowering Future Builders in Caring for the Filipino Home".

Do not fret if you haven't had this in your campus yet because they plan to do more in the coming months. Make sure you follow their web properties as they announce where they will be next!

The House down South!

Friday, April 08, 2011

My cousin has been slaving away for the construction of their house in the province down south and I'm seeing quite a remarkable improvement in the housing conditions there. Flooring installation has been done and they are already on the finishing part of the house. It made the whole space look expensive and posh just by putting in hard wood looking floors. The overall look of the house together with the furniture and appliances is very cohesive and I love how it felt warm and inviting compared to the last time I went there. The kitchen itself was not forgotten and even the walls were installed with tiles breaking that vintage feel that they were going for previously. It now has modern clean lines on it that my cousin and her husband adore! We'll go there after a few weeks for the blessing and I must not forget to bring with me a house warming gift. Maybe a couple of pots from Mom's garden which she can turn into indoor accents wouldn't hurt!

Martha Stewart would surely envy her once it's finished because of the big garden she'd like to put up. The soil is so fertile on that part of the world so they will pretty soon have vegetables and fruit bearing trees for our family's consumption. I can't imagine how great that would look like to see how the kids would also join harvesting the crops. Things have been great and easy with construction and I wish they went through expert establishments like SEARS when it comes to installing all of that inside the house. It would have been way easy!

Getting Our House Fixed

Thursday, February 10, 2011

When I arrived from work this morning I had to go and change clothes so I can rush to the gym. It's what I do on a normal day but when I picked up my shirt I heard something crack. My foot suddenly slid in one of the floor boards. Yeah I know this house is pretty old and we might need to renovate the second floor but I almost fell in this time. With the funds that I have right now it might be possible but the logistics of living somewhere else while doing that is giving me nightmares. That and I need a reliable Floor company that would be able to provide me with the design and structure that I need. I still want hardwood floors and the warmth it gives. It would be nothing fancy; just something that would look good on my space and give me the non slippery/rustic feel I have previously. Maybe I'll purchase more pieces to match it but as for now I'll settle for the old things I have since they are pretty expensive.

I don't want to fall in on it again so I'll try and look for ways to fix that temporarily then purchase hardwood floors once renovation starts. It was funny this morning but it's good that I am thinking of renovating this now. I guess it is time. It wouldn't be humorous if I fell all the way through and land on the ground floor right?! Ha-ha!

How about you?! Have you ever thought of getting your house re-modeled or fixed?

My House in the South

Thursday, September 23, 2010

I'm thinking of new things to add to our home in the south. If all things push through my brother would have the house complete and get it done before the year ends. That is just an ambitious estimate so I'm going to give myself around the first quarter of this year to get that fixed. After that we would need to get some key pieces bought but I have a special need for western furniture. I like how natural looking wood gets inserted in a theme I was thinking for the space. I am not a professional interior designer or architect but I have aesthetics in the mix somewhere. I want to show you guys a few of my favorites... it coincides with the theme I have in mind!

I want this piece outside my picket fence inspired porch. It is somewhat a rustic/country feel obviously that I want to happen. I love how natural it looks like and the wood used is finished greatly. I don't want a metal one because that would probably end up more industrial or futuristic. I want to get lots of pillows and a larger throw on top of that. Maybe a little orange or terracotta which hints more of a Hispanic/Mexican feel. I can probably add a few dried chilis and hang them around as garlands or art deco. I think I'm inspired! I want this to be a place of refuge in the late afternoon so I could get lemonade or something similar for refreshments. I need a place to put that though. Ah! I need a side table!

If I place this quite near that and make sure it doesn't block the smooth swing it induces this would be perfect! The woodsy look is actually continued and this one has that perfect height. I also need to think about what I'll have in the interior and make sure that it is also comfortable.

I won't stop myself from purchasing an LCD TV and would like to see if this set would actually fit. The lounge chair would be a necessity for me and my Dad. I want to still have a comfortable place to watch movies if I'm not in the mood to roam around the heavily forested area which this will all be located. I don't have to worry about cleaning too because Mom is going to get covers for them all if we're not around. Nice choices huh?!

How about you?! Have you considered getting these types of furniture?! Or would you buy something else? Tell me about it alright?!

Wealth from Forestry and Timber

Friday, September 10, 2010

My country is blessed by awesome natural resources. It has hectares upon hectares of its land covered in hardwood trees, fruit bearing ones, flora and fauna. I have an idea on how extremely rich we are in this part of the world. I am not surprised they even describe the island formation as a man sitting in a pot of gold. Funny I know, but in retrospect; it does actually make sense.

With billions of dollars spent in this particular industry since the early ages of shelter engineering, forestry and timber indexes have been greatly profitable even at the toughest of times. I remember my folks used to talk about these things together with the mining operations they invested on in the early 80's. Even though it wasn't needed at that time they still made an effort to get stock options for corporations that operate saw mills and processing plants for this raw material. I have actually considered going this business path in the past but to tell you honestly I barely made terminology classes on this subject. It was naturally passed on to generations and ended up with a few still in it. Some have left because there were famine incidences in our province in the past that forced them to sell parts of it. Generally it stayed with us but without knowledge on this we probably are just headless chickens directly going to the fryer. If it was easy to do in the past, I could have let them contact Greenwood and let them handle forest investment services. Our family might have a better understanding in this industry and invested elsewhere to get through the tough times. Just looking at the various companies in the same field; none of it fared better than them. You should try and see one of their projects here. I'm sure if you took a look at it you'll know what I mean.

We are no Roman Empire; not even Japanese or Mongolian. If you try and think about this subject it all boils down to proper professional management. We don't have some of these businesses exist in our comfort zones; but to tell you the truth I could have paid them now if they can make me earn more in the ever growing industry of forestry and timber. I would love to completely change chairs with people who had their success stories in this field. If you know people interested in this one, make sure you let me know too because I might just as well put in a thing or two.

Get Furniture and You Won't Regret It!

Saturday, July 24, 2010

I often complain about how my life ended up like this but I'm not complaining why I'm currently single. There are a lot of things that I got to think about because of this situation and in retrospect one of them is how to keep a lasting relationship. I confuse myself most of the time but it all boils down to pleasing the woman in your life. This concept is simple yet complicated but I don't argue with what's natural. There might be a couple of exceptions here and there but if you think about it they are not that different at all. You have to get them flowers every once in a while and you have to treat them right. You also need to figure out how complicated their world is and squeeze in buying rustic bedroom furniture so you have that hint of a marrying type of person. I'm no relationship expert but when it comes to getting a point across I think I have so much experience in that department.

There is also certain nostalgia about giving people high ticket items such as furniture. It comes to them as a security blanket so you won't fear they would be just left hanging anytime. I usually buy them when the time comes to live together. You get to see how she is in her natural environment. I also get to see how different she is after the dating phase where you mostly see only the best foot forward. In hindsight, you get to have your apartment or house redecorated with the best natural wood which I love so much in that shabby chic feel I usually see in lifestyle channels. I love how my room ends up even after the relationship fails. I get to have what I need on investment furniture and have my partner happy at the same time. It's hitting two birds with one stone; who am I to complain?! So make sure you get them that bar or bed you love when the need arises. I got the best of both worlds and you should too!

The Genuine Article

Friday, April 10, 2009

I'm trying to put my room together and I need a couple of things to organize my space. It's not that big though but I've thought about a theme. I have pieces passed on from my folks and I would probably use those existing ones and purchase additional furniture that would be able to complement what I already have.

I was not taking it lightly because I even watched a couple of designer shows over at the DIY channel. I know the concept of shabby chic but I think that was a little to feminine for my taste. However I really love the wood work that came with that, so I made an effort to make the hand me down furniture look new by sanding them off and putting in new coats of lacquer stain. Now it looks aged and I purposely put scratches on some of them too. With that in mind I also checked out the wood furniture over the Internet and see what else I could purchase on line. Taking that inspiration from my loft I saw the ones at Scenic Furniture and saw the ones they have that looked like natural wood. I love the raw lumber look and the mere color of it. I'm considering getting a piece but I need to probably do favors with my folks for quite a while before I can get it. Ha-ha!
