ASUS Launches Incredibly Slim 2023 Zenbook Laptops

Sunday, May 21, 2023

Took the hot trip to ASUS Philippines recent event as they take innovation up a notch once again with the newest #IncrediblySlim Zenbook laptops. No question on the power and specs (I own one that's a few years old and swear by it), but the changes in these new line made me wonder, how do they make it ultra thin and light like this? Imagine, only a centimeter thick and about a kilogram... that's a lot different from laptops a few years back.

That's not all, because as soon as they put them into a smaller, thinner and lighter form factor, they made it with less impact in the environment with sustainability in mind (both on product and packaging). I love it when they take the step further. During the event, they revealed the new Zenbook S 13 OLED (UX5304), the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404) and Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404). These are three new laptops made really slim, fit for those who would need to carry it around (students and professionals), or travel to a different place/country.

The new technology starts with its ASUS Lumina OLED Display which gives users an excellent visual experience for work and play.  Just like its recent predecessors, it's set to higher contrast and deeper blacks. It's also got 70 percent less blue light which means you'll get less eye strain if used for long hours.

The Zenbook S13 OLED (UX5304) is also the thinnest in the world. It also uses recycled materials for the packaging and parts. They've managed to reduce the carbon footprint  to 50 percent in its production. Out of the box, it is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, has 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.

The Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404) on the other hand is a work of art. It's got a body capable of doing a 360 degree fold hence the name. You can treat it as a laptop, a stand, tent or a tablet just by flipping it around. Imagine the things you could do with it especially if you need to present, small gatherings, meetings, things that could make life easier for you without lugging around a huge projector for it. I've seen it first hand and among the products released today, I had my eye on this because it could make sharing content easy especially for school or work. It also comes with an ASUS Pen that would get your drawing sessions, sketching, writing and pressing buttons quite easy than usual. It also uses the same processor, memory and storage as the previous one.

The Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404) on the other hand already impressed a lot of people, giving it a respectable award, the 2023 Red Dot Product design. The difference is the graphics hardware which uses an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. It's built for creators, uses the ASUS DialPad for Adobe Creative Software. Running programs and rendering would probably cause heat but no worries, it's got ASUS IceCool Pro thermal technology that would take good care of that. It also has a dedicated MUX Switch to make sure resources for your laptop would be sufficient for your graphics work, or a few rounds of third person shooting games that it could accommodate during your leisure time. We might have to ask for a review unit soon so I could play around with it, I bet it'll be a remarkable piece of technology. If you want to know more, just head on to ASUS Philippines social channels and their main website just by searching the model numbers we were discussing today. I'm sure it'll impress you too!

LENOVO Introduces 4 New Powerful and Sustainable Laptops for 2023

Thursday, March 16, 2023

Looks like the folks at Lenovo are dishing out new laptops this month, very powerful ones for work, work and work because times need it. Equipped with AMD processors, it's performance will be even better than its predecessors.

First is the ThinkBook 15 Gen 4 that has an AMD Ryzen 5000 series Mobile Processors, AMD Radeon Graphics, 2 of the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD and a huge 40GB DDR4 3200 storage. It's designed for pros who do heavy office work, and still want to be stylish plus flexible in terms of storage because we can't have enough of that.

Second is the ThinkPad P16s Gen 1 which is built for performance and speed. It runs on an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO processor and an AMD Radeon Graphics with LRO APU Driver , a huge 32 GB 6400 MHz LPDDR5 memory and upto 2 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe storage for easy in/out access. It is also made of sustainable materials and has passed lots of certifications.

Third is the ThinkPad Z13 Gen 1 which you can carry around when traveling. Made of recycled aluminum (75% post consumer sourced), it's very light weight so it is easy. It's got an AMD RYZEN 7 PRO 6860Z processor, an AMD Radeon 680M Graphics card , 32 Gig LPDDR5 6400 memory and a 1 TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD storage which can be of help if you've got so many files or presentations to make.

Last is the ThinkPad Z16 Gen 1 made for progressive performance. This makes you do business anywhere, work anywhere especially for people who are on the go.

Clark Popple of SMB Segment Lead of Lenovo says "Thank you for being here, you've played a lot in our success this year and we have been driven by customer feedback. We put you in our purpose, to provide things that make people save time, and be more productive. We also have AMD here who has given our products the needed boost and power so even more Filipinos benefit from it and provide technology for all!"

Francis Judan says "For 2023 we are changing the business environment, the world has jobs and careers that automate, analyze, cloud based and even entertainment via content creation. Even marketing is driving to those changes and careers have been different for Gen Z's. No one now wants to do business that is not hybrid, majority don't even want an office which changes the game. The new workforce is now wanting more powerful devices and be on the go, become smarter, sustainable which also become a basis for our products. With the heavier workload, more hard disk capacity and can relate more to users here in the Philippines. Come 2025 we want to be compliant, to last them a lifetime, they need to invest in hardware that will last and a longer lifecycle. LENOVO had been thinking of Gen Z's and Millennials that are a huge part of the workforce and relate them to the products that they make without sacrificing security, ease of use so you can have a better experience for work or play."

Lenovo is certainly on a good path in making sure their laptops become worthwhile buddies when they dish out new notebooks, ThinkPads for their intended customers.

Investing During the Pandemic

Thursday, March 18, 2021

Times are hard and it's been a year since we were all locked down in our homes due to the rising case of COVID-19. The rising cases this year is scary and I hope you've managed to still save a buck or two, or maybe thinking really hard where to invest your extra money during these times. Let me suggest a few!

Invest in Healthcare. If you haven't had one, make sure you do as the rising cost of hospitalization doesn't just cripple you, but the economic standing of your family. There are plans, ones that are affordable and if you do invest in one, make sure you get recommendations from family and friends that have benefited from it. There are tons out there, but choosing one that has proven easy to deal with especially on emergency cases would be better in the long run, so choose wisely.

Start a Home Business. Tons of entrepreneurs have already started cooking, making things, doing services from their own homes. If you're a good cook, maybe start by sharing what you cook first to friends and family, because chances are, when you sell them later on, they will be your first customers. Aside from that, it's easy to have deliveries done these days, so no need to go out that much even if you start your business in your own turf.

Invest in a laptop or PC. If you're running a business, you would need things like these to start taking orders and getting organized. Aside from that, you can play games, stream them, or perhaps make marketing materials that you would need for your business. A handy laptop that you can take anywhere or a more powerful PC that you can make as your station when you need to do your business at home. Choose something that you can utilize in the future, it's a hefty amount you are spending for it so make sure it will last for years.

Invest in Jewelry. Things that you can buy these days are gold and diamonds, or just any precious stones that have worth when you pawn it. Good people like Cebuana Lhullier even have been selling it. If it went through their strict appraisal process and saw it on sale, it would be nice to get them from an entity that has been doing it for 30 years. Best of all, they're accessible as they have over 2,500 branches nationwide! You can also check their services or what they sell online via  https://www.cebuanalhuillierjewelry.com or https://www.cebuanalhuillierjewelrypremium.com/ because they too want things to be convenient.

I'm sure you do too.

When you feel that businesses are on a slump, you sit and wonder why others are thriving. Acer Philippines just opened up their flagship store at the SM Megamall Cyberzone in Mandaluyong City. This place is sprawling with everything tech and I've heard the growth in the consumer laptop industry has bee huge for Acer, I'm not surprised - as people have been looking for things that they can use for home office and online school, and Acer presents a pretty affordable line of laptop computers too.

The Acer Philippines Flagship store also houses a section dedicated to Predator, their gaming laptop computer brand which is used by countless serious gamers here and abroad. They're also displaying the latest models so people can get an idea how it works and perform with heavy graphics. I bet they have the Predator 15 there which I was eyeing a couple months back.

They will also showcase the latest models of laptop computers from Acer Philippines, as you can see, design wise, they've done a pretty remarkable job. This also means that you will get the chance to have your laptop computers serviced because this also caters to that. If you're up to huge discounts on consumer laptop computers from Acer Philippines or the gaming laptops from Predator, you can got to this store from January 15 to 24 as they will be having huge discounts on several models just because they opened up shop in this side of the world.

Now don't let me stop you, just go and experience it yourselves at the SM Megamall Cyberzone. It's a good thing.

ASUS ZenBook Laptops P15,000 OFF

Thursday, June 11, 2020

The last time I was in an ASUS press conference I was asking their offers for what seems to be a need now for most Filipinos. A mixed learning environment of in school or distance learning with modules is being implemented in the country and people are in need of notebooks. This means that countless homes who lack laptop units need one ASAP. Being a brand who has been releasing in different price points, I simply ask what they could do with the current situation. I think this is their answer.

Yes, select premium ASUS zenbook laptops are now made more affordable by taking off up to 15,000 pesos per unit. Now that is going to be a big help to filipinos who would want a new laptop for the coming school year. ASUS ZenBook S13, ASUS ZenBook S, ASUS ZenBook 13/14 is included in this recent promo.

The ASUS ZenBook S is a small formed laptop with an ergolift hinge, but powerful with an Intel i7 8550U Processor inside. The ASUS ZenBook S13 has both power and beauty, aluminum body in Utopia Blue color and seriously portable at 1.1 Kg. The ASUS ZenBook 14 is a compact 14 inch laptop with a frameless nano edge display and a NVIDIA GeForce MX250 on it, your mid-gamer and video editing friends would envy you if you had this.

These are just a few of your Work at Home laptops waiting for you to get them. You can buy them via ph.store.asus.com to have it delivered straight to your doorstep.

Unlocking the Gates for Greats at iACADEMY

Saturday, August 18, 2018

iACADEMY Nexus Campus, Makati

Top of the morning we braced through the usual Makati traffic and got ourselves acquainted with iAcademy at their Nexus Campus in the same city. I’ve passed by this place a couple times this month because of events in Manila and Pasay which this school has its proximity. Sure enough, students come from these communities and nearby cities so expect this to be a tad upscale than the usual institution, I’m glad I see they spent a lot building this place. 7434 Yakal Street Makati is a prime location and is pretty much in the country’s business district, traveling to and from here was a breeze because there are tons of alternate routes, plus I can say much about the education offered here.

Visiting them on the day of their open house was the perfect time as they introduce new strands they offer for students who chose to enroll in their academy like mobile app development, robotics, graphic design and audio visual production. Class sizes are small so they get to students thoroughly. Most of their professors are industry professionals because they believe students should enroll in programs that are highly specialized. They want game changers, they are not afraid to try something new, definitely non traditional.

The speakers during the open house include John Gregory Jose of Novare Technologies who does Mobile App Development. He is also involved in doing the Globe GCash App and PSBank’s Mobile Credit System among others. They also had Des Feliciano of Leo Burnett/Blackpencil Manila who is into arts and Graphic illustration, Paulo Agduelo who does Sound Engineering, Music Production and Musical Scoring for Thirty Six-O Media. Lastly, Angelyn Mercado who does research Underwater Robotics who is educated in UP Diliman and Kyushu Institute of Technology.

Jacob Aragon VP for Academics of iACADEMY

Jacob Aragon the VP for Academics says “The programs we have in Senior High School also is aligned with what they have in College so you don’t have to take the subjects that you have already learned in senior high. Students are excited to go to school and they can’t wait to advance in their fields and passion.

John Jose of Novare Technologies

John Jose says “When you have a vision, you must ask yourself how to create that product. You have to know how to go from point A to B so your sons and daughters know where their destiny will be. The industry is going to data driven technologies so they give more value to their services, you have to visualize what you want to do and intend to do it. You have to know what you want to become and iACADEMY can help you realize that dream. I have failed a lot of times but I fail forward, you have to go through it before you learn from it. Don’t be afraid to try again and do something different.

Des Feliciano from Leo Burnett/Blackpencil Manila

Des Feliciano of Blackpencil Manila says “Do not say negative things about your work, be yourself and let no one say you’re doing it wrong, compete and bring awards, don’t compete with others other than yourself so you become better, nothing is FREE (and no artist should starve), be nice (it can take you places with your clients), never stop learning (you have to be updated), do not give up, network your work, learn the fundamentals (so if you get to work, you’ll learn to also break rules with it), always be creative (success is not overnight, make tons of it and choose the best), pay it forward, get advice from people who already are in the industry.

Paulo Agduelo, also an alumnus of iACADEMY

Paulo says “There is money in doing sound especially in advertising, if you shoot shows or movies, I help them make it nicer in the Gaming industry, app development, studio design, sales of audio products, same in animation too. You see the visuals but sound can tell you location in mobile games, like footsteps. You can also design sound in Church, iACADEMY prepares you for the small things, things that happen in real life. It becomes your portfolio, you need a skillset like good hearing, a sense of pitch timing and rythm, have knowledge of electronics and acoustics, have patience (longer than directors and producers), the ability to cope with long hours and tight deadlines (I learned that in iACADEMY which I thought was crazy when Professors did that here) it gave me that experience here before I graduated, the willingness to accept failure and learn from it (list it down and don’t do it the next time, you only learn when you fail), you are the future of the Philippines and you will be molded in iACADEMY so you will get to feel less of the pressure and be more creative when you get to work. I already had work even before I graduated from this school and everything became basic. I graduated two years ago, but it all beared fruit because they credit you with what you do. You get help with professors here and talk to them like your friends. You pass because they address your needs, you learn from professionals and their experience too. You go out here equipped from real life problems. I am thankful to them about that. They pushed me to my limits.

Underwater Robotics expert Angelyn Mercado

Angelyn Mercado who does underwater robotics shared her experience about being in the robotics team of the Philippines “I am happy that we have highschool and k-12 programs that have robotics. This is the first time iACADEMY is offering this as well, it is hard to learn three fields like Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Computer Science. It can be applied to agriculture here in the Philippines, even in industrial plants, fetching things, domestic applications too. Almost all first world countries have this and have the resources for it. It is a trend even in the factories here in the Philippines and is steadily increasing. The world is changing and opportunities are a lot, iACADEMY is one of the few that offer it.

NEW PROGRAMS

Psychology

Anna Marie Abrera the Chair of Psychology in iACADEMY says “iACADEMY Nexus is now offering a Psychology Program. We want to address the emotional well being need of employees and prevent unhealthy workplaces. We work on human behavior, we marry studies and what happens inside companies. We also just recently passed the mental health law so there is a lot of work in this field of science. Students here will be equipped in research, HR Functions, assess behaviors and be psychometricians.

School of Business

School of Business Dean Shieradel Jimenez says “We have been founded by movers and shakers of the industry. We are right smack in the business center of the country and we partner with the industry leaders for the curriculum and design the program with them. Aside from three BA’s we offer courses that hone an entrepreneurial mindset, social intelligence, community leadership and integrity. All of our faculty are licensed professionals and MBA holders and we have a lot of industry partners. We are working on BSBA Accounting programs, an MBA offered by DePaul Academy. We hope you choose iACADEMY if you want to be part of this.”

School of Design

Erica Nugui, School of Design Faculty

Erica Ngui says “Under the school of design we stand by “design thinking”, to create solution for real world problems. We already have Multimedia Arts and Design, Fashion Design and Technology, but we want to offer AB in Music Production and Sound Design, AB in Film and Visual Effects and AB in Production and Sound Design. If you want to make movies, these are the courses you can go to. You can learn the narratives, CGI, industry leading software skills. BFA Graphic Design and Illustration has photography and graphics classes so all bases are covered. It will also cover sound design, musical scoring and composition so they would be equipped and have technical know how to do all these. They can also write and make their own music. Equipments and a sound studio is available to borrow for all students as long as it is available. We have a unique collaborative environment to make sure your kids to be creative, imaginative and digitally excellent.

School of Computing

Mitch Andaya, iACADEMY Dean Emeritus

Mitch Andaya says “The changes in the computing industry is becoming more niched. Programmers were considered rare, produced by many schools so we knew we had to diversify. This is why we have CS/IT courses and have specialization. You do not see our courses in other big Universities, it’s why we had Software Engineering in the past, they apply scientific parts and incorporate it in the design. We gambled and introduced programs in a time where it was not a norm. We have a bachelor program for Animation, we also have web development, so students now learn functionality, aesthetics and user experience. Now we also have game development, a BS program that makes programming, design and writing. In the next school year we are launching Data Science as a course, Mechatronics too. We will have Senior High programs to be trained in software development as a strand, so they know basic programming, also Mobile App Development and Robotics (separate) so they can start understanding early, perhaps better equip them to take their college course. They will have general subjects so they will be good in other core subjects. We give them the foundation to succeed in any course they decide.

For those interested, School Year 2019-2020 is near and they are accepting entrance examinees already so do that if you please. You may call 889 55 55 or send an email to inquiry@iacademy.edu.ph.

Whew! That was what iACADEMY is all about!

Infrastructure Matters: IBM's System X

Saturday, February 08, 2014

IBM announced today the 6th generation of its enterprise level X-Architecture for System X and PureSystems servers. This sparks a seamless addition to new and improved x86 based systems that would be great for analytics, cloud and large data.

IBM believes that change is inevitable. With a new era of business opportunities and very dynamic data size and sources, it is time to prepare to make use of better structures and framework. Analytics and big data handling is essential to remain competitive. Systems has to have no downtime, faster access and bigger data transfers and having servers that can predict any errors even before it happens without compromising other data uptime. Features like these make the IBM solutions for shared and secured access on a league of its own.

The beauty of it is that every two years they will announce new ones but this will still work. The same concept they are bringing to new ones because you don't need upgrades that much as it won't be cost efficient. This systems are designed for business critical enterprise so that even when you scale up, you won't get compromised and give you about 43% solutions cost. You can host multiple generations of technology in one server so maintenance is extremely easy. IBM's X6 is the fastest, mission critical application deployment in x86 based systems and no hardware vendor can match it. They are the first to do this.

X5 will retire this December. They also said that the Lenovo acquisition will not affect anything but the team that developed this and support for it will be transferred to Lenovo. We'll have to wait for the official announcement on this. With more performance and lower cost plus 4x more memory and higher system availability I couldn't think of any brand yet that could match X6. Will big enterprise use be of a reality soon? We'll have to find out if it applies to the Philippine market so we in turn can reap its benefits.

Note: One of the the local distributors is MSI, and they've assured all else will be okay once the transition starts in transferring x86 to Lenovo. That is reassuring.

Toshiba Launches New High Performance Laptops in the Philippines!

Monday, July 01, 2013

A few days ago I was invited to one of the most entertaining afternoons I have ever been in courtesy of Toshiba, the Philippines number one brand when it comes to laptop computers. They were there to launch new stylish, high performance laptop computers specifically designed for consumers who want the best when it comes to these hardware pieces.

Case in point..

They got these two play roles: a chef, a businessman and what not. I was so afraid of what they did to the laptop computers, why?

They sliced and diced in it.. cracked chestnuts on its edges, then even stepped on the thing for a couple of minutes! Dang I was not even laughing because I know no laptop computer can probably withstand that! Lo and behold these gadgets all went out still functional as if nothing even happened. Imagine that!

Toshiba's executives were confident that these line of specialized laptop computers can outperform their counterparts in the market. They believe that Filipinos know they are getting high performance and quality laptop computers just by seeing the brand alone. Their track record has proven their worth and they don't stop innovating because they know their market only deserves the best. They came out with these new models.

The Qosmio X Series which is designed for gaming enthusiasts had the right amount of graphics and processing ability to support those hard to play games right in your laptop computer. It's got a massive 17.3 inch display, Intel core processor, 16GB RAM, a GEForce GTX 770M graphics card and a 3GB GDDE5 Video Ram that comes with it. They also have the Harmon Kardon speakers which cannot be seen in other laptop computers as it is specifically designed for Toshiba, how can anyone beat that?

The new Satellite L Series (L40 and L50) is on the other hand designed for heavy multimedia users. Stylish yet very functional, it boasts of the fourth generation of Intel Core processors, GEForce GT 745M card, a frame buffer of 4GB and still has room for an optical drive. It' also got a 15.6 inch screen and a touchpad that also supports 10 point touch and swipe functions not available in other brands of it's equivalent computing power.

The new Satellite S Series (S40) is Toshiba's answer for the consumer who requires both power and a good amount of entertainment capable of making each owner fully productive and still fun because it's got a 14.1 inch display,  750GB HDD storage for all your files to fit in and DTS Sound via the build in Onkyo Speakers. What's even better is that it feels as convenient like using a tablet or smartphone because of its 10 point touch display which functions the same way as these touch enabled devices. Pretty cool!

The new Satellite P Series stays stylish and functional as these are supercomputing powers that exists in reality. These are entertainment optimized too so you never bore out of presentations or watching in the comforts of your own home. It's got 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch versions which could fit your need if you prefer a smaller one but still keeping full HD features. It's got 1 TB drive space, 32 GB of 1600MHz DDR3L memory, new USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 1.4 standard port and the same Harman Kardon quality speakers capable of producing DTS Studio Sound. How's that for show?

The Protege Z10t is Toshiba's answer for those who want a combined laptop pc and tablet who would definitely fit executives and frequent travelers without lugging around massive piece of equipment since this is a true blue Ultrabook at only 850 grams. It's durable, powerful and convenient and I wanted one for myself. I have yet to ask Toshiba if they can lend us a review unit soon!

Each Toshiba laptop featured here come with service and support within their SelecServ Program. You can opt for customized warranty coverage so you don't have to pay for some things that you don't really need. That's something others brand don't even want to do costing you an arm and a leg just to get your laptop covered.

So cut to the chase and purchase one of these beauties. I know I must have that Protege thing soon. will they listen? LOL
