ALFRED VARGAS' Message To His Younger Self

Thursday, October 02, 2025

Looks like former cong and now (QC's 5th) Councilor Alfred Vargas is spending his weekends reflecting on life and improvement as he reminisces on what advice he can give his younger self. In true makata fashion, he pens out a heartfelt message in Filipino signifying resilience, his fears, overcoming it, real success and how to achieve it.

He also tells the importance of love for family, honoring them, giving respect, and how to be of service to others. He also dedicates these lines to his faith. Here's his recent Instagram post:

His knack for words and urge to share what he has learned through life experiences is something that should be emulated.

We can't be just complacent, we need to continuously learn from our mistakes, improve ourselves and other people. We all need to work on that, and not forget to share because wisdom, is golden.

MEGAN YOUNG Ecstatic About Working Again with MEGAN BEAUTY

Tuesday, September 24, 2024

It was such a beautiful afternoon to be in the midst of ladies clad in their best yellow ensembles for a luncheon, and beauty day together with Miss World 2013, Megan Young. It's been a while since I've seen her, and the last time I think was also an event. Today was sort of a celebration because MEGAN Beauty is renewing their ties with the gorgeous lady from Zambales, the one with a very kind soul.

They also dub this event as "Megaganda Ka Pa: Megan Beauties Day", to thank the countless people who have supported them all these years. With their namesake Megan Young as part of their endorsers, she felt like home for so many women who use the several products they have released. Though so beautiful, Megan doesn't even put makeup that much, only when work calls, and invests more on her skin. It shows, she has that certain glow that if you see her with or without makeup, she's still gorgeous.

Lifestrong COO Ms. Marge Lee saw how ideal Megan young is to represent the brand. She does a whole lot more than just a beauty queen, she's also a model, host, vlogger, gamer, and wife to Mikael Daez. Women who delve into different facets, in different industries, those who are empowered, would be the best fit for Megan Beauty.

Megan Young says "Thank you for making me a part of Megan Beauty, I am happy that I get to work with a company that I believe in and of course, kapangalan ko! There's no truth that I own the brand, I'm just so glad that we could get to be here, you know how good Megan Beauty is and how easy it is to use their products. It's something that you always have to have at home, and stocked because if you have people visiting and they ask what you use for skincare, you just give them a few of your favorite Megan Beauty products! I remember so many people want my Facial Foam, but remember, Megaganda ka pa!"

Here's more of our small talk with Miss World, Megan Young!

Seeing Megan Young represent a brand that has her same ideals, and makes her even more beautiful, is just fate. The people behind the brand are too, and if there's something that you would need to do after learning about it, is try it. Try the things Megan and Ms. Marge used, and let them know what works for you on their social channels. Follow them for skincare tips too.

Congratulations to both Megan and Megan Beauty!

They also made sure they know their worth, and how they envy their resilience in raising their respective families and continue to help and enjoy their community. They also shared some of their favorite Hairfix products, of some, they have been using even before they were endorsing the product. Here's the event on video, please be kind to the photographers who were going in front (blocking your view) while we were recording this bit. :)

I was really touched when they showed 4 lucky Moms who they spoiled shopping and done with a makeover using the latest products from Hairfix. I personally like the hair colors because of the variety and how affordable it is. Let me take this bit to thank the men and women behind Life Strong who invited us to witness that. Rabiya, Tracy and Francine went up on stage and crowned them right after the reveal. That was really a touching moment.

Now it's your turn to get your crown, and make that story! Congratulations Hairfix!

To Celebrate Your Life: Marissa Sanchez Releases "Farewell Slam Book"

Wednesday, September 06, 2023

It was a fun afternoon, over lunch, seated with blogger friends and writers at the launch of Ms. Marissa Sanchez's book called "Farewell Slam Book". Yes, it's unconventional, and talks about something that people may think is taboo. Though at this day and age, what's a topic that can't be talked about?

Ms. Marissa Sanchez is a really well rounded actress, a really good comedienne, so I'm sure naysayers would probably ask what is she doing writing a book?

She says "I think this is timely, it's fleeting, and I've seen people who have death in the family who don't know where to go to, who cry and stress over it. People find it morbid talking about it, and the subject is being oppressed, but we really have to talk about it. I've said this to a lot of friends, when I shared it with Ogie he was squeamish. It was Tita Aster Amoyo who thought I should start it, and I've had friends who supported me in this book. I've always wanted to be a journalist, to write, and it's something that I wanted to do but didn't have the guts to do so.  She said I shouldn't procrastinate, I should go ahead and do it."

She adds "Happiness is a choice, I'd be a hypocrite when  I say I'm not. Writing this made me realize there's a lot that needs to be said, but you kinda don't because you don't want to hurt their feelings. There's also some parts where you need to think, the whole pandemic gave me time to really think about what to include here."

Asked about who this book is intended for, she says "It'll be good for Cancer patients, old people, almost everyone, young and old should have this."

When I flipped the pages and saw much of the literature, it wasn't something that I'd think Ms. Marissa Sanchez would write. She's different on TV, and on the book it was more of her sharing her views.

I could say those bible verses she shared was something unexpected, because you don't see her preaching on TV for most of the days she's spreading "funny" on it. Though in hindsight, it's something she didn't want to do. It didn't come off as that, her Christian views was easy to digest and really relatable. The book also had a lot of things that needed much of your input in preparing for the inevitable. The gist of it lies on you (in some way or form) measure your relationships, to say things you need say to people, talk about those whom you might have not talked to in years but actually matter to you. It also presents a place to become organized, from the things you prefer like flowers, location, insurance, which would be good to know when the time comes.

I also asked about being single, and we kinda connected on that a LOT.

She says "Being single is not something you need to be sad about, you can find happiness from a lot of things, it's just that we are partly to be blamed about it because we see them as someone to fix, someone we can change but that is just not realistic, and in a way, yes, our standards are high."

If you're ready to take that step to make sure everything is organized, and you care about the people you leave behind, maybe try it first, see how it will impact your life. And I quote from Lt. General Baden Powell (founder of Scouting) who said "Try to leave this world a little better than when you found it, so if your turn comes to die, you will have a happy feeling that you have not wasted your time, but have done your best."

The book is now available at Shopee and Lazada, but to make things easier, here's a link for it HERE. It only costs 950 there, but if you're seriously considering more, you can directly message Ms. Marissa Sanchez' social channels to arrange more copies. Thank you to Sir Ogie Diaz and the men and women who made this media conference possible. One of my favorite authors and host Ms. Julie Yap Daza also graced the occasion and supported Ms. Marissa on her new book. That alone says a lot no?

Have You Tried Gentle Parenting?

Sunday, November 27, 2022

I haven't, but from the looks of it, it makes total sense.

Back in the day, the parenting style in the Philippines was perceived to be very strict, ultra conservative, very matriarchal, and include flying slippers and hangers every once in a while.

Not everyone knew that parenting actually can work even if we deal with kids and do parenting in a very calm demeanor. It's properly called gentle parenting. It involves respect, understanding, empathy and setting healthy boundaries, without taking away individual happiness which is extremely important for kids. The style would make them very confident and independent too.

When a kid does something bad, don't attack the person, but the action. Tell them how you feel, introduce another way to do it and ask them why it would be better. Ease in on why you think why his actions are wrong. It also pays to be a good example. Not only would they inherit your good looks, but your manners. If you are kind, respectful, they'll see how you walk the talk and become an inspiration for them. You'll be a person that they'd aspire to become especially your good traits.

You should also encourage his/her good actions. We're not here to just point out his bad side, we should always notice how good they were at school, how they help doing chores. It's the little things that make up a huge dent on their personality because that's how positive reinforcement works. Aside from that, make the habit of asking and supporting their dreams. Be it a cashier in the restaurant, a construction worker, a truck driver, a pilot or a doctor, this will make a huge difference in the long run as they develop independence and the value of education.

Although education seem to be a bit pricey these days, there's always AIA Philippines' Future Scholar. A product that can get you cash payouts, an assure you that your child's dreams of graduatiing someday would be fulfilled. This can act as savings, an investment, to help finance your child's education even after school's done. Be it 5 years or more, you can have something to count on when things don't go your way in life. You also get to choose how to build the funds til he reaches maturity (around 17yo). This can also be claimed lump sum if anything untoward happens to you.

AIA Future Scholar gives you peace of mind. This was designed with parents in mind so you continue to live happier, healthier lives. If you want to know more about it, head on to  https://www.aia.com.ph/en/our-products/education/future-scholar.html for more information about it.

AIA Showcases Keys to Excellent Customer Experience: Tech Groundwork, AI and Personal Service

Thursday, November 17, 2022

Fresh as a mornings brew, AIA showcased their digitalization movement this year. An insightful way on introducing how they innovate in their goal of building healthier, stronger and better lives.

AIA CEO Kelvin Ang says "Welcome to our second face to face meeting as we share what we have been doing after the pandemic. There's a lot of things we worked on and some of you may ask why we are doing this, it's because we want you to witness the people that have been part of our growth and a big announcement last year as we rebranded to AIA. The need to change constantly has been something that happened especially on the digital side. We are in better position to embrace the future especially in the technology, digital l, and data analytics. We used to have so many layers, we restructured it so we can work faster. We have started this in the company and the work we do with agile tribes. In our 75th year we need to start thinking about embracing change and improvement. Learning is a big part in our organization, make it sustainable, expand further and deeper. We have community, bots, an innovation culture in our organization."

He adds "In the past we used to have processes that took two weeks, now it can be done in 20 minutes. We want to make it easier for our customers. We continued to improve our customer portal online, and this year we spent a lot building sales platform to better assess their needs versus our products. It was done on Facebook messenger and fulfill our mission to make it accessible and more affordable. The one we're sharing today is something that is fun and practical, something from our innovation lab. Plus the new distribution to make it accessible and affordable like our other products."

Chief Technology Officer Noel Mendoza explains "The best worst thing that happened in technology was the pandemic, people had to adapt in a faster pace. Everything had to be changed, and it has changed the way consumers get products and services. What we want to share is the things we need to do in the office. It's very different, as customers demand more and to be able to listen to them. It allows us to attune to customers needs today. This will change over time, and this is our innovation program. Our lab makes us understand what is possible, it's where we see what's relevant in the market. We will give you a taste of that and why automation is important."

Dwayne Tin the Innovation and Automation Lead of AIA says "We are not a physical lab, we enable everyone from CEO to customer to have a voice. It's a virtual representation of what we try to be. In a minute you can do a tour to experience how it is to be part of innovation on ground."

The consumers are vital for technology to reach goals. Improvement needs feedback to see what works and what doesn't. Interacting with customers made them learn to discover and combine things in an automation process. The chat bots was made with the customer in mind, to start conversations that are usually asked, like payments and or policy updates especially if they want to information now. It also is manned by digital workers to provide services fast, without queues, send it to you even with multiple policies in tow. Now it just isn't queries they answer, they do transactions and can do it also on My AIA for more secured ones. It also gives customers the ability to understand the costs without being too shy about asking an actual person, even just on messenger you can already accomplish things. It allows in person conversation to a minimal, so they too can concentrate on those what matters most.

Thank you to everyone who showed us around their offices this morning. Really appreciate it!

AIA Philippines want this to be better, to make sure they can build more things to help more customers in the future. That's a noble thing.

Filipino owned and operated Personal Collection Direct Selling Inc. just recently laucnhed their flagship products Tuff TBC (Toilet Bowl Cleanser) and sof & mmmmm..... Concentrated Fabric Conditioner in their all new green biodegradable packaging. This is in line with their stern commitment on their core values and mission to provide a Great Life for every Filipino.

It also helps your clothes from getting stretched, discoloration, fading, and makes your clothes smell fresh up to 30 days (when you keep it).

The company advocates #GreenLifeGreatLife and makes sure to deliver products that are of quality and use packaging that have bodegradable solutions. They are also planning to do mangrove planting and reforestation as part of their environmental efforts. This is a nationwide campaign to help minimize/rid of single use plastic ans wastes, hoping that the public would also follow suit.

I am so happy to see your efforts, I use the Tuff brand too and knowing that the company behind it is this responsible, I would really look forward to my next purchase and see how it goes to good deeds like these.

SANOFI PH Holds Event on Power To Love Yourself

Friday, July 23, 2021

The importance of self care has something Filipinos have less grasp of because we often sacrifice ourselves for family or friends. It's something that we do because of culture, our being family-centric and the pressures of society to become successful so you can provide for your loved ones. Question is, if you don't take care of yourselves, how can you take care of others?

In a recent event of Sanofi PH, they invited speakers and executives to talk about how we can use our energy and time to also do self love. How do you do it? Simple things, taking a long hot bath, taking a vacation, eating the best dish there is, or spending time pampering yourself. It's not only healthy for the body, but even the mind if you do that. During these days wherein times are blurred between work and time for family (because we're practically all working at home), we need to make sure that we have that ME time. It's a time to recharge before you do work, or maybe take time to rest right after that.

Self care is long term, you do it so you don't implode. It can be as simple as talking to someone, making meaningful connections, to make sure you have a healthy mental well being. We have to make sure that we have ourselves taken cared of so we won't fall off our horses when the actual rodeo starts. It was nice to hear insights from ladies who handle it well during the IG live session. Thank you Sanofi for inviting us this afternoon!

Lance Raymundo Does “Martir Sa Golgota” This Holy Week

Friday, March 23, 2018

I have witnessed his story unfold on music, TV and in 2014 het met an accident that nobody would ever want to happen. Lance Raymundo had a promising career, hit songs, a glorious future ahead of him and being bound in a wheelchair with his face disfigured must have been so hard for anyone, but not this man.

Honestly, while I was having coffee with him during this interview, my mind was somewhere else, really wondering. While looking at him, I was really at awe at how Lance have had all these POSITIVITY in him while he shared his story. He said it stems from accepting the situation, he knew he had to do that not just to be alive but to go back to where he wants to be in his literal second life.

I found him VERY THANKFUL, APPRECIATIVE and WILLING to share his story because he knew how it would inspire other people, including the youth, the millenials and make them have their outlook in life a little better than before. Aside from the talks, he made it a point to participate in projects of former councilor, actor and director Lou Veloso. In this community play (called Cenaculo in the Philippines) entitled Martir Sa Golgota , he’ll be playing role of Jesus Christ, and says “I always want to make time for this in my schedules, this is my way to give back regardless of religious affinity.”

Here’s his interview in two parts, hope you pick up something inspiring from this short talk, because I did.

Again, make sure to watch the first salvo tomorrow at Althea Park, Paseo Outlets at Greenfield City in Sta. Rosa Laguna and on March 25 at Greenfield District Central Park in Mandaluyong City. They will also be taking this to other towns and major cities as Lance mentioned. If you haven’t seen a Senakulo yet, this may be the opportune time to do it. Go see the story and the passion of Christ as portrayed by an inspiring man.

It’s Holy Week, you be good!

This was founded by Jose Desiderio Sr. in 1965 and now is handled by their third generation under the helm of Geraldine Desiderio Garcia who acts as the SVP and GM for CBIG. According to her “We have simplified insurance and offer products that are relevant in the Philippines. We attribute our success with the families we serve and the value they put in education. We have insurance protection under the Classic Benefit Plans up to 96 years old payable in a 3, 5, 7 or 10 year period. We also have Alay Sa Buhay which only costs Php 365 for a year for natural and accidental death benefits that are renewable for ages 13-70. For families and seniors, we also have ASB Family which covers 3-5 people in your family up to 70 years old, then Php 1,000 for 71-80 years old. We want to be known as a company with a heart, and deliver the services that we need to give. There are a few insurance companies in the Philippines but our clientele are the CDE market. Our vision is to insure the common man, farmers, fisher folks and that’s how we get to reach them. Our edge is we have been paying claims fast, in time of need, of demise, we have always been known to do that fast. When they have death in the family, have their houses burned, that’s when they need it most and that’s where we come in. In Country Bankers we have done it in 5 days.

They also have Ms. Aiai Delas Alas as their endorser and this is her third year. She says “I believe in the products that the CBIG group has and in the past, I even got my fans insured when I was endorsing them on my second year. I had problems before about medical insurance and it was not easy when you are not covered. It’s why I make sure that I have my non life and life related assets to be insured now. The CDE crowd needs insurance when you know they need it most. I love them because it’s easy for them to pay for it. When I had a fan who had a dying mother he didn’t know how much he would get since he got his mother insured years back. They got help for hospitalization, then got the insurance as well. It’s why I am endorsing them until now.

For those who want to avail of their plans, you may visit them at the Country Bankers Centre at 648 TM Kalaw or call them 5238611 for life related insurance or 5240621 for non life insurance. Honestly I haven’t seen any insurance company that offers this low for what premium you can benefit from. Ask them now if you have time. They have helped thousands of Filipinos and this is why they are in the business for 53 years.

St Peter Life Plan Perks at Breakout Philippines

Monday, October 02, 2017

What does your life plan give you today? Couldn't answer much right? I know.

I asked that specific question because most often that not, your life plan provider doesn't give you anything side from just getting your money that's accorded in your plan. St. Peter Life Plan has been in the industry for years. True enough, they have retained the number one spot in the pre-need death care industry and has been able to provide more affordable packages in traditional memorial life plans. Now that's all good, but what is this thing they call Death Care Week?

It's their way of giving back to the community, one that they started 11 years ago. Back then even talking about death was a taboo, it made people uncomfortable, but you know how convenient it would be to have one so as not to disturb your own family when you leave this world. They held a lot of events, helped tons of people get to and from cemeteries during Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day. This year seems a lot special because aside from their usual community projects, they have also added perks to all St. Peter Life Plan holders together with Breakout Philippines. Have you
heard of them?

Look at me so happy to solve this room! LOL!

Breakout Philippines has been providing group and family entertainment for a couple of years now. They have themed mystery rooms in different malls, buildings, with the goal of solving it and I've done it quite a number of times. This time however, the partnership they have with Breakout Philippines means all Employees, Sales Agents, Plan Holders with PHIC (plan holders identification cards) or signed St. Peter Life Plan Contracts will get Php 100 OFF their rates on these specific rooms. For SM North Edsa's Boogetman and Sleep No More, Greenbelt 5's Corpse Bride, Katipunan's Clownhouse and Paragon Plaza's Hide and Seek. We actually tried the one in SM North Edsa a few days ago and by golly, it was so much fun I wanted to try the other rooms too.

Make sure you look for an additional clue, it's the St. Peter Pink Casket!

The Boogeyman had a difficulty of 4/5 because you literally don't have things to actually start with, you just have to find clues and know how to open the cases. It's really fun to do with a group of 5 or more. The best thing that happened that afternoon is of course, we got out of The Boogeyman room in record time. I think we clocked in at around 38 minutes for a 45 minute limited time room. Now is your chance to do it, so go to these branches to get those perks people!

For more details about Death Care Week, please take a look at my article here. Thanks St. Peter for letting us experience this Breakout Philippines Boogeyman room!
