"Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins" a Gorefest with Effective Actors

 

I've been looking forward to see one of the biggest films this 2025, an offering from Regal Entertainment intended for the Metro Manila Film Festival called "Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins".

As you may know, this is the 17th installment of the movie franchise and is already a part of tradition to see one every Christmas. It must have been very challenging for producers to put this together since the matriarch Mother Lily passed in 2024, but Ms. Roselle and Atty. Keith obviously didn't get to put off fire off their family's passion. With an ensemble cast that includes SRR alumni and some of this generation's hottest love teams, the theaters will surely be filled to the brim with fans who would want to see a glimpse of their idols do 3 movies in one showing. 

Here's what happened at the red carpet!

A short review:

The story is well put together. While there were a few flaws to convey time, you'll get to appreciate the way things are because all of the characters are very busy establishing their identity, and why they are there. This isn't much of a scare, but more of a gore fest. The suspense will also play when each one of them appear on screen because you'll never know who's going to live or die. That mystery alone would get you hooked and they've managed to healthily do that in this 3 in 1 movie. You can expect Janice de Belen and Manilyn Reynes to do good, along with prime actor Richard Gutierrez. 

 

The love teams FranSeth and JMFyang did their A game in the gory part of the movie. Individually, they are remarkable, even if the pairings didn't exist you would see how they carried themselves well. The scare factor is a bit on the moderate side, but again, this is more of a gorefest rather than a horror flick, I enjoyed that part the most because I like brutal things which you'll see in a lot of situations in this movie. Is it apt for Christmas? Absolutely, because from our POV, an MMFF without a Shake Rattle and Roll movie is a lame one. People should have choices, and this horror entry is the only one of its kind this year. People consume content like this, and if you're a Filipino outside the country, you'll see how it has been made good compared to previous years because of advances in technology, Regal took advantage of that. 

With great pieces (actors who have done their jobs well), a well stitched movie. They deserve 4/5 🐂🐂🐂🐂. 

PS. Watch out for the scenes of Sassa Gurl because that's part of the reason why you'll love SRR Evil Origins, she made her mark, made this chance to appear in the movie a good one. She proves that there are no small roles, small actors yeah?!

A Plea to Get Movie Goers Back to Cinemas: SRR Evil Origins Showcase Stars for MMFF

Just got out of the Gateway cinemas to cover the grand press conference of Shake Rattle and Roll Evil Origins, a Regal Entertainment entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. The producers Ms. Roselle Monteverde and Atty. Keith Monteverde went up on stage and told us about this big project and how it was mounted despite several challenges in doing another Shake Rattle and Roll movie. 

They required it to be not just different, but connected as far as episodes go. They needed 3 writers and 3 directors to do this and separated them like period films, one takes place in 1775, 2025 and 2050. They also had an ensemble of actors to portray the various characters included in the film. During the press conference, they introduced themselves and expressed how thankful they were just by being part of the iconic horror franchise. Speaking of iconic, one of the films original actress was making a comeback particularly Ms. Manilyn Reynes (who appeared in the Aswang episode of the second installment). Popular loveteams JMFyang, FranSeth is also a part of this film, which would be a litmus test to see if they'd carry the film in its entirety. People were screaming in the cinema with the mere mention of their names, not surprised and hope this equally means they're going to rush to theaters this Christmas too.

FranSeth felt pressured to do good especially since they were able to surprise folks with last year's MMFF entry from the same production. This project is also one of many movies that Richard Gutierrez will be doing with Regal, so staty tuned for the next ones to be released soon. Ms. Annabelle Rama and Zion was in the audience to support him, a touching sight (as I was at their back during the talk).

While the movie and the rest of the entries are preparing for battle on Christmas Day for the Metro Manila Film Festival, their goal always has been to make sure people would go back to pre pandemic levels of people watching local films. They have the material, the star power and production that can do good, and they hope you'd give them the attention they deserve on MMFF season, and beyond on digital!

Richard Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati Starts Wedding Preps

It's official!! Richard Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati will tie the knot, and they are now currently engaged.

They announced "We want it to be in Manila, we were considering Switzerland but we thought about the family and we figured we just had to have the wedding here."

Sarah says "He was my first serious boyfriend. Before, I focused on work, and I'm the type who does it long term. When I met him, I knew he was the one. I thought he was suplado, but he was very kind, very loving as a son, as a friend, it wasn't really nice as a first impression but I was wrong. Of course I have lots of blessings, I am most happy though because we are together. Kai and Zai will be our ringbearers but most probably will have a special participation. They will also be with us during our honeymoon."

Richard says "She is different, she is someone who made me happy. It just became so hard to have projects, lots of it before our planned wedding. I am also doing MMK, the new soap, which will come out this week. I also am in ASAP in Rome. When your relationship is being tested, you get to know more about the person, we both grew so much. As parents and individuals we cherish that. I thought she was out of my league, but after a while we had a lot of similarities. Our parents saw Geneva and had bondings with Sarah's parents. With my family, everyone will have a participation especially Ate and Mind since they have helped us a lot in the recent preparations."

KathNiel and Chard on the Last 2 Weeks of La Luna Sangre

When I heard news that the show will end in 2 weeks I felt a little sad because judging from the story, I think it could still go somewhere interesting from making their romance a little adventurous to putting them and their breed’s lives in danger. I have been watching this show for quite a while now but I’m still excited to see it every weekday, probably the same as with any fan of the show. If it ends the whole line of shows would also feel incomplete because the fantasy-action component not seen in other tv programs won’t be sufficient, we know how important that feels right? Anyway, I guess in a way I felt how hard it was to actually film the show because they had instances where they needed to film today so it would be shown the next day giving then little to no sleep. Honestly it’s not just the cast I’m worried with but the people behind the whole show, it just isn’t healthy and they felt that I guess. Still, I think this had brought a lot of things on the table and fans are still happy about the story, in a way I understand some of the naysayers when they’re not but I hope they are still happy they get to see them almost everyday on screen. We got to interview some of them the other day and I was so excited to see Richard Gutierrez, Daniel Padilla and gorgeous Kathryn Bernardo.

Richard says “As far as my character knows, we are siblings but if there would be changes we’ll know in the last few weeks. When I first started with La Luna Sangre, I thought about it, it was a risk. The risk I took paid off for myself and the audience. If ever I woud be offered something like this I’d do it in a heartbeat, I think it did spread what I have in the horizon. I just can’t reveal because the fights will be everyday, like the one you will watch later. It’ll be exciting. I don’t know what plans we have after this but I’m doing a movie with Star Cinema. I’ll just spend time with my family first then do that one with Angel and Angelica. It’s a tough act to follow, I know. I am thankful to the creative teams, they made my character evil but didn’t really make the fans angry against me. I’m also have my baby next month, so it’s good timing. If I were to choose the end of Sandrino, I hope people would get to understand him too even if he is that evil. I can’t even understand him sometimes because he always goes ballistic, so we’ll see.”

Daniel says “I know it’s stressful, we are close and for all those who have supported us from the beggining, I want to thank them all. We have action, drama, not easy because we don’t have time because it’s for airing. Fight scenes last night for example, it ended 2-4 in the morning. I already have Vampire blood, the evil just creeped in after everything that happened. We love each other, unless it’s not there anymore we will fight for it. It’s a combination of my happiness, my family, a combination of everything. We don’t have a story con yet for the movie but we will talk about it after LLS and it is going to be a love story. I enjoyed Tristan when he wasn’t a vampire yet. It was fun and humbling to shoot in Quiapo, we have several fight instructors. I learned a lot from them. Kath doesn’t have powerful fight scenes and I feel it. ”

Kath says “Mixed emotions for me, it was really hard, lots of adjustments for Malia, but I like the relationships I’ve had because I will miss everyone that I’ve worked with. The staff, the director, I learned a lot after these 10 months. Hopefully, after LLS we will have a US Tour and after resting for 2 weeks we will have a movie with Direk Cathy.From Malia and Tristan, I learned love is powerful. The things we went through, even if they are evil, you can change it with love. There are challenges, but with DJ and I, we’re together. We are doing our jobs, our fans also give us purpose. It’s mu first time to do action scenes, first time to be a boy, first time to be extremely hands on and if you love the project you will be collaborative, we even ask to revise the script. We became more independent and our Directors know this is teamwork. I also have learned how to be a little tough, be warrior like, I hope I get that from her. If I have Daniel during the fight scenes, he helps me a lot because he corrects my forms. If I had something to change, it would be just to have MORE TIME because sometimes we could have done better but because it’s for airing later we need to put effects.”

They know they have a following and how the moonchasers also have contributed in making the show be a little in touch with the community. They are thankful how you all have followed the show these 10 months. It exists for a reason, and they are doing this for you. You have to know that.

It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez Season 4

It looks like we're up for a wondeful ride again as E! Asia takes you further with the 4th Season of the original reality series It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez. This will coincide with their "I Heart Pinoy Monday Block" and will premier this July 25 at 8:30PM. 

You'll see Richard back in the groove as he has gone back from a hiatus to spend quality time with his first born Zion. Sarah Lahbati on the other hand has been able to secure a Dance Diva title in another channel, making her a bankable artist and actress this time. Elvis and Alexa on the other hand have been able to go back to work and started acting again while the latter gets a position in the banking industry. 

Feisty Mom Anabelle and groovy Dad Eddie take time to become grandparents and set themselves in a slower pace. Is this a permanent thing or is this just something temporary. Raymond on the other hand is doing well as a PR magnate, getting his businesses in shape but possibly causing a rift between him and his whole family. 

Raymond says "It's a good thing that E! is doing this as we're doing it in 27 countries. I could say we're really doing good because it's already foreigners that are telling us, really excited about it so why not give it another shot."

Anabelle Rama mentioned "It's bad to push away blessings like that, I won't waste money! I won't be fighting with Ruffa anymore because she's already gone" 

Ruffa says "The last time I saw her cry was when my mom and dad fought unless someone is sick or not well, that's where we see her soft hearted but she doesn't show it that much. I know she cares."

There will be a lot to watch out for in this new season. I've heard a lot of inside stories but we can't divulge it yet! Watch the premier this coming Monday (July 25th!).

TV5 and VIVA Launches Panday Reboot

Having been able to watch a couple of Panday movies and TV adaptations, here goes Carlo J. Caparas again to give the most revered hero in Philippine cinema another reboot as they launch Ang Panday on TV5. It is led by the hunky Richard Gutierrez as he ventures out of his former TV station as a freelance artist. 

"Ang Panday" is about a blacksmith who needed to defend his people and family from evil people, dark power and mystical creatures which he will meet along the way. You're also going to get a dose of women since we can't just leave the hero single and without inspiration of course. So here, he's going to be with the sultry Bangs Garcia, and that might take this story somewhere.

Richard Gutierrez promises this will have more action, more drama and adventure that will be catering to young kids who need inspiration, or adults who just love seeing something good on the boob tube. I know most of you might be thinking that this franchise has actually been done so many times in so many ways by different channels but what makes this effective is the heroics, something that pinoys would relate and hope for that some day, some way there will be some hero that will save the day. Aside from that, Richard has been able to do a pretty good job in this hero business if you remember Mulawin and Captain Barbell to name a few. It was even mentioned in the introduction that he's the "Fantaserye King".

The big difference is Richard becomes the new Flavio whilst the new Lizardo is Christopher De Leon. Richard has definitely lost a lot of weight. His arms are unbelievably huge and he says he had to do a LOT of preparations for this character and he knows how big this is. He's going to make his own Panday because he knows he's got BIG shoes to fill. Richard says he got some help from Direk Mac Alejandre and Direk Carlo Caparas. It's going to be a 2016 version of Panday. 

Christopher De Leon says this is one of his favorite movies and when they asked him to play Lizardo, the power, the dominion and premise of this series will make you wonder how the characters came about. They can travel through time and it's more than the usual Lizardo as he's got more powers now. 

Panday starts February 29 8;30PM and weeknights 9PM thereafter on TV5.

KISPINOY: The Search for the next KPOP Icon

Filipinos fascination about KPOP artists and the KPOP scene is just insurmountable. Richard Gutierrez has done several celebrated and awarded shows like Survivor Philippines, Oras Na, and others so he's definitely going to use his A game when the show starts with a 2 part premier telecast come June 27 and July 4. Richard said during an interview in Jet7 Bistro Timog Avenue that "This is something different because even of this is a talent search there will be a Korean component." It Takes Gutz To Be a Gutierrez Season 3

It's not easy to be a celebrity family. That's what I learned when I attended the press conference for the show "It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez" a few days ago at Cocoon Hotel in Quezon City. The Gutierrez Family comprised of hunky Richard Gutierrez, host and twin businessman Raymond Gutierrez,  beauty queen and celebrity mom Ruffa Gutierrez, super strict mom Annabelle Rama Gutierrez and former matinee idol Eddie Gutierrez, their lives are spent under a microscope again for their 4th season in this show. They had to reveal a lot of things that were pretty much very personal in the first few seasons but now that they've got that taken cared of, the 4th season presents issues about family relationships, a baby, a wife, and perhaps another wedding to happen this year. You'll also see a lot of Anabelle Rama Gutierrez fights which has always been the talk of Philippine press. We even got to see that ourselves during the presscon as Annabelle and Ruffa have really not yet patched up things between them. Ruffa said "It's difficult to be in a situation where you want to be happy and try out relationships but end up being gunned down by Mom, I'm so blessed to have a very supportive family. We do have our disagreements but I know deep inside my Mom only wants to care for me and my welfare that's why!". Annabelle suddenly grabs the other microphone and says to Ruffa "If you only follow my advices you won't end up making the wrong choices. If you only follow me, we won't really have problems or fights Ruffa!". says the matriarch.

"It is not the same if you have kids. Filipinos would love things introduced in this show by E! and it's going to get bigger!" adds Raymond. "We're very excited and very thankful that it's now not just going to be shown in Asia, finally we closed the deal with TFC! Now the people who wanted to see us in the middle east and in the US can now have us inside their homes worldwide because we're in ABSCBN's The Filipino Channel." says Richard Gutierrez.

For those who are asking, you won't be seeing it anymore in Youtube because they're going to show the first and second season on TFC, plus the new Third Season on E!, thanks to CPI, NBC Universal and their other partners that made this deal possible. All of these will start this June so for those who are on the channel, you'll see It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez Season 1 and 2. Later on, you'll also see Season 3 but it will be aired first on E!

I was also informed by Richard that they'll probably have tours all over the world because the show brings in a new platform, it's one of the reasons why they got invited to the Asian Film awards because they did the show. It's not going to be seen online anymore, well not unless you have the TFC package. You'll also see the show on The Lifestyle Network, one of the cable channels of ABSCBN too.

Annabelle and Ruffa were a bit emotional during the presscon. Annabelle hate scripts so they were kind of just bearing with each other since they had to promote the show. Ruffa cried because she got a little upset of the situation but hopes and knows that it will all be better soon. 

It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez will air on TFC this June and will start airing the third season this July. As they say, they have their own opinions, they are strong willed, but whatever they're going through, they are still a family. Make sure you subscribe to TFC if you're out of the country so you'll feel right at home seeing the Gutierrez's in their show!
