Kean Cipriano Outs Solo Album CHILDLIKE.

Sunday, May 16, 2021

Last night was one for the books (actually two nights ago!). I took a break from press conferences and writing because a very talented guy was launching his own album, Kean Cipriano. I wouldn't miss it for the world!

This was sort of a listening party, over the internet, over wine, food and awesome conversations in between. The front man and vocalist of Callalily finally had a chance to showcase what he's been doing in the past few years, so in a way I'm witnessing history, art, taking its form.

Kean says "This album has been 3 years in the making. Suppressing what I felt was already hard - and waiting for the others to release their albums first was equally daunting (he kids) . The album is just something so good, quite surreal. This is like saying your age without saying your age, my era when a CD was medium in making albums. I had to use one of course even if processes meant I had to be fully digital. It was a long time. It's been 6 years when I last released an album with Callalily, so in a way, I feel like I'm a kid again, like I'm starting... hence the title of the album Childlike."

The album includes several singles which has been written and kept in notes he's been holding onto for several years. Some of it has been reworked and masterfully done with other artist friends. He also included a few new ones with wife Chynna which I liked as it had a bit of storytelling. When I listened to Childlike., it felt more of how fatherhood had changed him as the lyrics delved more on his love and will to sacrifice for his kids which I think was so endearing. It kinda served what I felt with the bits of photos they share on social media (and how I got to know them over the years).

The album includes songs like

Childlike.
Took Me Out
Eye Contact
Make Me Fly
Sa Ibang Mundo 2021
Tonight I Break Some Promises
Sulyap
Later When I'm Drunk
Tangina
Walk on Water

The single Took Me Out on the other hand felt like an ode to someone who saved you from a bad kind of life... the one with "no sense of direction" and swept him off his feet kind of relationship. I'd be afraid if all these songs are personal experiences because some of it are extremely mellon collie inducing like T@ngin@ which screams of a heartfelt confession of a man struggling to make his partner fall in love with him. That song tore me into pieces as it tells how he realized his shortcomings, how disappointed he feels as he's not able to become the man she wants him to be. He's also sad that he sees how distraught and tired she is and where their relationship is heading, which I felt was a bit like me a couple years ago (scratch that lol). Though honestly, I really dig that track and it is my personal favorite.

The single Eye Contact had artists Liezel Lopez and Jon Lucas on its music video. Both the song and the vid had an 80's vibe on it as Kean says "We played a lot with that. It's like a reveal, a twisted imagination, and we just played with visuals. The concept is about a guy stalking the lady. This was written a long time ago, I think it was around 2012, but it was just stored in my notebooks. I just released it in the solo project, I did a demo at home and Chynna figured that it would be good to release it with the other songs. The feeling is surreal as the the directors for this music video are my mentors, I know I'm in a safe place doing these concepts because Direk Oddy and Direk Jay, they collaborate with me. I'm not the director, I am not acting or singing in the video. I took the producers hat, I want people to get the message, that it's not just about love, it has a deeper meaning, our existence in the world where we have lots of people to interact with, and disguised it into a love form. This is under OC Records (their label).

During the listening party, Kean also had some of his friends perform and share their music. I couldn't believe the amount of talent in that room especially the powerful songs that William Elvin did and the cool numbers that Martin Riggs added. For aspiring artists, Kean had one advise. He says "Go all in like this guy Mark Thompson of Project Moonman (with his lovely wife too in the conference). In the eve of pandemic, creative people can survive, I can't wait to see Project Moonman live. "

Make Me Fly is another single that got me really interested. The music video for it was done with really good and impact driven animation which I'm sure most would enjoy. Tonight I Break Some Promises was all about breaking hearts, killing memories, things that you shouldn't say to a person you're leaving but worded straight forward. It'll ruffle feathers especially if you're a bit emotional, Filipinos do love hurtful songs no matter how that sounds weird. Sulyap on the other hand was more like a profession of love. It tells a story of a man ready to sweep a woman he loves off her feet. It's also for a person she prayed for, and the guy assures her that she's in good hands. The single "Later when I'm drunk" are for those awkward opportunities of going up to introducing yourself to someone (like in clubs), more like a hookup, and the music feels has a bit of country/western vibe and the chances of getting drunk - and refused. Lastly, Walk on Water was another track with wife Chynna. It felt like an anthem of two starstruck lovers who would want to make the impossible possible because you are with the one you love.

Seeing these songs made me realize how powerful songs are as a medium in relaying emotions. Kean's songs might have been a hodgepodge of experiences in different times, with different people, but one things for sure, it shows a part of him. Too bad I didn't get to catch the man perform a number during the last sequences because of writing deadlines, but surely, I enjoyed every bit of it. If you want to see and hear what Kean Cipriano has up his sleeves, go stream his music over at Spotify and other digital streaming platforms. He also has several of the audio uploaded recently on YouTube, go take a short break and listen to him sing. This is his solo album, and it's mental!

Christian Bautista Swoons Indonesian Fans on Valentines Day

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

You must be wondering where in the world is Christian Bautista? The good looking balladeer has left the country this season to take his music in a back to back Valentines Concert in Indonesia where the Asia's Romantic Balladeer swooned his fans in that side of the world.

He performed together with Bunga Citra Lestari in a show entitled "Romantic Valentine Concert" at the Coliseum Club in Jakarta, then also performed on Valentines day at Alia Hotel in Solo, Indonesia. He was also busy during this trip as he had to appear in 3 different local television shows that includes Sarah Sechan, NETTV's local version of Ellen Degeneres. He also guested and had an interview with Merry Riana of Sonora FM 92, one of their local stations. In the same week, he also appeared in Trans TV where he gave a glimpse of his career in the Philippines and Indonesia and talked about himself for his countless fans in the region. If you may have remembered, Christian walked for Bench a couple of years ago and have acheived a really good physique, so he also shared a couple of his fitness routines, and diet so they could also learn about it.

He also guested in the new show of Rossa, a singer-actress from the same country and even sang "Please Be Careful with My Heart" live. Christian gave them a show and included "The Way You Look at Me", "Since I Found You" and "Fixing a Broken Heart" in his repertoir to the delight of his throng of fans in Indonesia. They love Christian as much as we do.

The last time we got the chance to talk to Christian was during the launch of his single "Who Is She To Me" which entered the UK iTunes charts last year. He's making the waves here and abroad and promises to bring you more in the years to come. Make sure you visit his website http://www.christianbautistaonline.com and follow him on social network channels @xtianbautista on Twitter and Instagram, or like his Facebook page over at Facebook.com/Christian-Bautista-Official too!

Congratulations Christian! Continue to make the country proud!

Gerphil Flores: A Golden Treasure

Thursday, December 03, 2015

After doing the country proud in the last season of Asia's Got Talent, Gerphil Flores is now going to hold her first ever solo concert entitled "A Golden Treasure" on December 11, 2015 8PM at The THEATER in Solaire Resorts in Pasay City. She'll be whipping out standards, songs that have made their mark in her stint in Asia's Got Talent, and a couple more songs in the mix with her version and spins on the songs that made Gerphil Flores who she is today.

She's been blessed and had to also take care of her studies first so she didn't have time to actually grab some of the opportunities after the show but now she's ready to take this head on as she already graduating in her Music course as she majored in Voice too in UP Diliman. It was a treat to talk to her because she's my crush! Haha!

Here's our conversation when I was trying to keep it cool!

Again, her concert A Golden Treasure will be seen at Solaire Resorts on December 11, 2015, that's a Friday at 8PM. She's going to dance too and will be doing some really good songs in different genres. She's promising that!

Solo x "Pugad Baboy" Collection

Thursday, September 11, 2014

Pol Medina Jr.'s pretty much a staple in broadsheets for a long time. For those who doesn't know Pugad Baboy (Pig's Nest) then you must have been living under a rock. His comic strip pretty much symbolizes Filipino culture and makes it easily be understood, made fun of and realize to be something that can touch or destroy people's sanity; ultimately something real that you can see everyday touching on different quirks we have at home, politics, love and community. That alone makes him a great story teller, cartoonist and legend in this industry. This is why SOLO deemed it but another perfect opportunity to create the Solo x Pugad Baboy Collection.

The collection boasts of quite a colorful palette composed of nicely fit collared tees adorned in Polgas comic strip prints which is one of Pol Medina Jr.'s most prominent characters in the series. They have the primaries taken cared of, with blacks, white, pinks, yellow, blues and greens... it looked like a more colorful version of his best selling comic book series but doesn't veer away from the same reason he's related to the Filipino audience all these years.

The characters also go into statement shirts, tops, sporty shirts and tees. Not only that, but they've got bags and accessories as well to make you love this collection even better. It's funky, it's fresh and you don't have to spend a fortune for products this good.

Aside from that, there's going to be a book tour with the main man himself Pol Medina. He can now sign your copies if you have it at home so please, rush to these branches on these dates.

September 13 - please go to The Row in Glorietta 1 at around 12:30-2:30pm. On September 20 you can see them in Solo at the Festival Mall from 12:30-2:30pm. The final day would be on September 27 at the Solo branch in Trinoma from 12:30-2:30pm. Please take time and rush to get the cute Pugad Baboy Collections only in Solo stores and meet Pol Medina Jr. in all three Saturdays of September. Who knows? You might just win his book too while you're at it!

Vigan Vies For 7 Wonder Cities of the World

Sunday, July 06, 2014

One of the few places I've visited this year just became the talk of the town. Up north where there's a rustic, hispanic area and cobbled stone streets that probably spanned hundred or more years, the city of Vigan remains one of the few UNESCO world heritage sites that lives up to its name. The only place in Asia where a mix of Filipino and Spanish heritage exists, it truly is a sight to behold every time you get to see its streets and buildings that dates back to 16th century. I know, it ain't enough I guess, that just spells this city needs to be recognized... not just here, but worldwide!

Mayor Eva Marie Medina of the city of Vigan says "Being in the finals has added to our pride as residents of this small city with big dreams and hard earned achievements. Officials from Vigan are relentless in their continued efforts to make this city the “best” place. We hold on to our commitment to sustain our gains in heritage conservation and excellence in governance because these are the very instruments that ensure the well being of our people".

Vigan City has been included in the 28 finalists for 7 Wonder Cities of the world. There will be another round where only 21 will be left. Now is the time to vote for them as another national historic site takes the front seat. It's not only the places that can actually be the sole reason to see Vigan as one of the world's best. Just look at the things we've loved from this Ilocos city all these years!

From the crunchy Vigan Chichacorn, to pottery and small trinkets made from wood, to small mementos of the houses, to the weaved cloths and baskets, to Malunggay/Moringga pasta and cookies, to the famous Vigan longganisa that's so garlicky in every bite, to the super crunchy and sinful Bagnet... the city of Vigan has it all!

Now it's time for us to help them win this for the Philippines, how to vote? It's easy! Just go to www.n7w.com/en/cities and choose 7 entries, login with your social media accounts and it's a vote. Make sure though to always include VIGAN in your entries so they qualify for the next round. You can also vote by texting VIGAN to 29290777, it's that easy! VOTE NOW so you can get the city of VIGAN recognized as the world's best! It's VIGAN's time to shine!

SOLO Summer 2012 Collection!

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

It's been a while since we've talked Fashion on my site (probably 2 days hehe). So it's high time we do that again but this time we're gonna go back to SOLO that just released shots of their Summer 2012 collection. Are you ready for this?!

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 10

This time they are gearing out to the Military inspired tops and bottoms and they are executing them quite well. I have been impressed with their designs but unfortunately I had problems suiting up in my size (yes admittedly I'm that big haha) but the whole spread appeals to me. The jacket in this bit looks more of an aviator reminiscent of those top gun movies we used to watch with Tom Cruise, who in the right mind wouldn't want to look like him?! =) The tops for the women also bares quite light material which will make any summer a tad bit cooler when carried the right way.

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 09

The guy's jeans also stayed away from the normal blue ones, it makes this piece a keeper imho. You can have this used in different shirts or outfits plus the fact that it's easy to wear for a couple of days if you are not much on the rough side.

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 07

They also are sticking to Earth tones which also would be great as choices become slim these days because other labels are probably venturing into brighter colors. I love the faux leather jacket and the plaid print in its reverse side.

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 08

Ladies, looks like you have choices. Animal prints and tops that are quite close to "banana republic" seen above are also available this summer. Pretty descent things you can choose to dress for a semi formal occasion.

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 05

You can mix and match using those same animal prints and use a different jacket. It's a definite steal to have this on your wardrobe so you can use it for office or maybe going out after that.

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 06

The army inspiration continues with fatigue like fabrics used in this bit. More on the green faded side or quasi fatigue if there's a term for it. Match with a different set of shoes and you can use these for casual wear. You can totally ignore the heat and still dress up for summer, its not an excuse soldier!

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 04

Throw in a coat and it would be the perfect outfit to go out on a date in the evening or maybe use it to attend some semi formal events. I'm getting one of those coats and use a crisp white shirt too... isn't that a staple for every guy these days?! The ladies can probably also get those white ensembles and use it with shorts or maybe a couple of pants. It's a free country and its okay to play with it.

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 03

Solo Summer2012 Military Inspired - 02

Don't you just love the army prints in front of the shirts? Getting that plus a hat and it's a perfect outfit for a fashion forward occasion. I love how they steadfastly went through making this inspiration into something that both men and women can wear. I would really love to wear some of their pieces... I'd impress people with the things they have for the guys. I also thing my lady would be great wearing these pieces they released for summer!

SOLO has definitely made a mark to take a different path this season. You should get this if you want to shy away from too much color. The interpretations are spot on and quite remarkable. Congratulations also to the winners of the Solo Online Model Search Year 3, you look good! Just like the brand you represent! =)
