VibePH jocks all looked so gorgeous and handsome at the Purple Carpet

It's my first time covering the Awit Awards who has partnered with MQuest and the folks from VibePH. They also have partnered with Honor Philippines who lent us their newest phone, the Honor 400 5G which we used to take videos on the purple carpet before festivities began inside the newly revamped Meralco Theater. We needed to be there early to make sure we had time to see the artists arrive around noon, and they were quite generous posing for us at the VibePH Purple carpet. Awit Awards is an annual event where the PARI (Philippine Association of the Record Industry) honors some of the remarkable musical artists in the country. Even before the event began, I heard PPOP greats SB19 and BINI were receiving awards which I'm super happy about!

Here's some of the scenes at the Purple Carpet, this was in front of the Meralco Building which houses the theater. 

This event was certainly one of the grandest ones I've ever seen. I could see the dedication and work they put in to honor the bands, the groups and individual artists who received awards. I specifically love the part where I saw my own idol Ely Buendia who received the "Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award" for his contributions to the music industry. They also gave awards to SB19, their collabs, individual members (including my bias Felip!) and femme PPOP artists BINI. 

This was something that was expected, and they definitely delivered. Hosts Joao Constancia and Ryle Paolo Tan also.gave something extra for this hosting stint. I'd like to send our thanks to MQuest Ventures, PARI and HONOR Philippines for letting us cover the Awit Awards 2025 Powered by VibePH and shot entirely during this event with the Honor 400 5G.

Holiday Stream Treats from LG: RED ONE on Prime Video

Looks like the holidays will be extra fun as LG announced that Prime subscribers would be able to stream one of the biggest action packed film this year "RED ONE". This stars the toughest Dwayne The Rock Johnson, the lovely Lucy Liu, JK Simmons, and everyone's guy Chris Evans. The film is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Seven Bucks Productions, The Detective Agency and Chris Morgan Productions. 

The first peek will be available at LG.com and various digital venues like Piccadilly Circus in London, and at the New York City Times Square. LG also sponsored their premiere at the Lincoln Theater, with state of the art LG TV's that's got Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio. This is the handy work of their director Jake Kasdan. Fun day to launch a few more devices plus a new flagship smartphone from Honor Philippines.

Real Robust Challenge Winners Bared

In the Philippines, we've come to see how Robust has inculcated in the lives of so many men... and in the process, fix personal physical issues when they get to a certain age. Ian Veneracion Goes International with ONE GOOD DAY on Amazon Prime Video

Last night we went to Seda Vertis North for the press conference of One Good Day, a film by Studio Three Sixty to be shown on the Amazon Prime Video platform. This is directed by Lester Pimentel Ong who did Panday, Lastikman, Imortal, La Luna Sangre, Bagani among others. He says "This has been something I have been fortunate to do with Ian Veneracion as he's not just a good looking man, but a martial artist and a real athlete."

 

As mentioned, this is Ian Veneracion's foray to something that will be internationally released. The film is going to be released in 10 countries (maybe even more later on). As this is acquired already by the Prime Video platform it would be accessible to the market they intended this to be shown to. Direk Lester mentioned that there's millions of audiences waiting for a glimpse of what Filipino action films are. There's certainly a lack of it, but if there's someone who would be nice to see out there, Ian Veneracion would be a sight for sore eyes. For those who don't know, he's done a lot of action films in the late 90's and 2000's. He's not new to the genre, and he didn't stay away from doing physical training for it because it's part of his lifestyle to shoot, do martial arts and spar every once in a while. He was excited to do this when news came about this project. Here's part of the interview we had with him last night.

The talk also delved on the latest brouhaha about banning KDrama in the country, here's what he said about the issue.

This will be shown November 17, 2022 and will be in 6 parts on Thursdays thereafter. These are certainly exciting times for Filipinos to showcase how we do it in our part of the globe. Ian also says "I hope this just opens opportunities not just for me, but the talented Filipino actors that we have in the country." and by the looks of it, it's quite possible to happen soon.

EMILIO ROSO in Manila for Vision Of The Bible

Prime Video Takes Space in the Philippines

Choices, we've got more of that now that Prime Video is starting a lineup of local content and an even better user experience for the country.

For starters, they've announced the first Amazon Original content called Comedy Island: Philippines which they worked on with Base Entertainment (a production studio involved in creative talent in the region) so they could bring them out to the world. This will be launched next year (2023) and this will be exciting times for the viewing public.

This is part of Prime Videos increase in investment to make sure we won't be running out of entertaining content with hits like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Korean dramas like Nothing Serious, Toy Soldiers, and US shows The Good Doctor, Amazon Originals The Boys and The Terminal List plus a whole lot more in their library.

Efforts include local Prime Video marketing to work with our very own Filipino producers and celebrity host and personality Anne Curtis. This is also the same with other Southeast Asian neighbors Thailand and Indonesia so they too get a dose of Prime Video love in their own language.

They're also offering it at Php 149 a month (introductory price) which would be charged after you consume the free 7 days on Prime Video. With it, you can download and watch it anytime, anywhere you wish and watch on compatible handsets, on Smart TV's so you can watch at the comforts of your home or out on the road to Albuquerque or Kamuning whichever comes first. This would be really interesting to see how a new player comes as Filipinos consume more content online.

LG Showcases New Monitors and Gives to PH Naval Air Wing

Took a short trip to BGC a few days ago for an epic event from our friends at LG Philippines. They're showcasing their latest monitors and surely, I was already drooling of the huge ones on display on our table because I've been dreading to get one for gaming purposes especially for Valorant and GTA V. I also work with the same setup and having something that can accommodate all the windows for programs and files that I need to function especially when there's a lot to write about. So far, I love what I'm seeing from them. In this TOP GUN themed party, it was fit to see their most technologically advanced monitors and they used it legibly in different scenarios.

From spreadsheets, work related stuff, movies, graphics, they all displayed quite nicely at the event which was also attended by celebrities. Andrei Felix hosted the event and one by one, other celebrities like Eric Tai aka Eruption, PBA's LA Tenorio, Photographer par excellance Magic Liwanag, actress Myrtle Sarrosa and all around performer Gab Valenciano took us around for a tour to look at what's new with LG monitors. 

They used the 32GQ950 OLED Monitor for a race car game and it performed well under these conditions. The LG UltraGear 32GQ950 had 4K resolution, details were on point, the 144Hz refresh rate was something gamers like me would benefit in especially in first person shooting games where lag is an enemy. It also has very nice output as blacks and whites are deeper and brighter, you won't be asking for adjustments right from the start. They also used the 48GQ900 OLED Monitor for console games, and because it's got faster response time and higher refresh rate, you'll see your character take action as soon as keypress happens, no delays in platform games or 1v1 modes because it can keep up with you. You can also see less glare and reflection, something that is quite important especially when you are editing images on the screen on normal work days. Photographer Magic Liwanag showcased the LG Dual Up 28MQ780-B which he uses on portrait mode, beneficial for creatives who would want to see the whole picture then work with a lot of other things while you're rendering videos of events on the side. Myrtle Sarrosa on the other hand loves the 29WP500-B 29-inch which is a 21:9 ratio UltraWide monitor. It gives her more than enough immersive experience when she's playing her favorite games on PC plus do her tasks if she needs to do office work on the side. Gab on the other hand enjoys the LG UltraGear 32GN500 because it gets all those ghosting problems gone as it utilizes NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium at start, something people used to pay for to make things better. There were lots more in the event but I got a little excited when real NAVY personnel came in and met with Sungjae Kim the Managing Director for LG Philippines.

They even used this setup with a real flight simulator software, like the real deal.

LG Executives went up the stage and announced something good, they gave 30 LG UltraGear 32GN500 monitor units to the Naval Air Wing of the Philippine Navy that was also there for the occasion. That part was really touching to give these quality monitors to people that serve the country, in my books, that's huge especially knowing that they'll be able to help a lot of communities with it.

A Classy Looking Phone that Performs Well: OPPO A95

I spent a couple of weeks using this phone and by any standard, it's pretty sick. This is the OPPO A95, one of OPPO's newest phones in the market and with what I've heard, this does photos and videos quite well. That's something that I need especially for creating content these days because quality before I even edit things, is certainly something that I wanted to have.

Really Good Hardware

Specs wise, the OPPO A95 doesn't dissapoint because the battery life is quite phenomenal. With 5000mAh, you can last the whole day and even have more for music and media when your events call for it. With their 33W Flash Charge, it won't be problematic if you're charging the phone for a few minutes. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and proprietary System Booster, you'll have performance happen on the most resource draining applications like games or editing software, which I'm pretty fond of using. I played Mobile Legends and CODM with it, heating was actually not an issue even though I've probably expected it to do so. Albeit having a plastic back panel, it didn't feel uncomfortable during the hours I've handled it. OPPO made the OPPO A95 also look classy, with that sheen you find in pearls, it has made the variant I handled (Glowing Rainbow Silver) look expensive yet stay very light.

The phone also has 8GB+128GB ROM plus its capability to expand storage. The screen is wide at 6.43 inch, so you kinda enjoy watching YouTube videos and movies when on landscape. Here's how I unboxed it a few days ago.

 

 The OS is good

With its ColorOS 11.1, the interface is very smooth when you switch apps. I tried memory hogging apps for video editing and games, but so far, I've never had it hang at all.

Pretty Good Cameras

This has got 3 cameras at the back that's got 48MP, 2MP for the depth of field and 2MP for the macro shots. The portrait mode was actually not too overly processed and got the blurry parts right. It also didn't make the image too warm which is something that I've noticed on other brands but that's another story. The AI mode for Beautification was just enough to cover little imperfections, you can even do without it tbh. If you're fond of going back to events, even if it's dark where you're at, the night mode on front and back should do you good. They too must have figured 4K videos is a little too heavy to be edited hence the 1080P on this handset. All your raw videos can be edited on their propreitary software called SoLoop, though I haven't used it yet it kinda does things automatically so it's not gonna be hard to learn how to use it. It's also a lot easy on the eyes as it's got AI Eye Care which automatically detects brightness and adjusts the screen to your liking, or manually, you can do it too.

Does it justify the price point? Certainly, it's got a lot of premium features but remained mid-range, I think that's good. realme Launches 9 Pro and 9Pro+

Folks looking for a phone would be so happy as realme just released the realme 9 Pro. It's got hybrid dual sim slots (one you can use for micro SD storage), a huge 6.6 inch screen, 1080p 30fbs video, 16MP front camera, and three cams on the back with 64MP, 8MP (for ultra wide shots) and 2MP macro. Very pretty too as it's colorways are in Aurora Green, Sunrise Blue and Midnight Black in some countries.

Battery life is good for long play as it's got 500mah LiPo batteries. You can fast charge it too with 33W power with the proprietary USB C cable.In a way, this is a little like the realme 8 but the improvements and additions are sufficient to be called the 9 Pro. This is also available in 6/8GB RAM versions with the Snapdragon 695 5G processor, runs Android 12 and the new realme UI 3.0 which people love. The 128GB storage also is huge, so you can have photos, videos and lots of apps installed without deleting stuff. A little important for me because I do a lot of these things.

The phones will be having a bigger sensor, bigger light intake and better photos. The realme 9 Pro Plus on the other hand has better image output, better photos in low light situations, steady and still with OIS that helps with lessening blur for videos. It's a hardware and software combination that gets you to lessen noise, so you get a worthy image to post on socials and print. The audio has dual speakers with dolby atmos, those movie nights would never be the same. The realme 9 Pro+ has a MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G Processor, 4,500 mAh battery, Vapor Chamber Cooling System so you don't have to worry about heating. It's also got 60W Super Dart Charge, only takes you a couple minutes to full charge your phone. Don't be confused what to get though because both of them are quite good. 5G ready phones at this price point is simply good already, but they packed it with good hardware. 

According to tests done by realme Philippines, they've gotten no problems in gaming. Albeit sweat and intense use would play a role, they've had not seen any issues with the phones they've gotten. As for aftersales service, they have 20 locations nationwide minus one because of a fire in Alabang, but they're currently expanding in the country, so there's more places you can go to if you encounter issues.

They will also have realme Buds Air 3 launched on the 15th so stay tuned for that. It's very minimalist, active noise cancellation, 42dB of it. 30hours of playback. Dynamic Bass Bosst Driver too so you're getting that party done in your own head when you need it. It's also iPX5 water resistant, perfect for summer fun!

The New Impressive Samsung Galaxy A22

I've had the chance to actually use this new addition to the Galaxy A series, it's the Samsung Galaxy A22. Made for tho/se who are into content creation, this is equipped with a powerful camera that gets quality in fun and colorful ways. In the Philippines, available colors like Black, White, Mint and Violet colors. The one I got to use for a few days was Black and I actually like how it looks.

You can say it's photo and video centric because it's got Quad cameras on the back, wherein the main one has 48MP, 8MP for the ultra wide lens, and 2MP for the others like Macro and Depth of Field lens. Now if you're usually with shaky hands, you utilize the Optical Image Stabilizer so your viewers won't feel dizzy watching your YouTube videos. The A22 is also smart, it uses intelligent AI camera experience so scenes are identified right away just by merely pointing at a subject. For dark or low light scenes, the Night Mode would help not just to see the images, but to capture stable shots so you get awesome photos. The phone's scene optimizer automatically adjusts the levels of brightness, contrast, white balance and other elements of the images. If you prefer, you can also edit it according to filters available in the phone (and adjust it to your liking).

Viewing movies, KDrama and just about any game with its Super AMOLED Display will surely be an amazing experience and possibly, you'll appreciate the 90Hz refresh rate that it can do when you play moba or FPS games on mobile. This phone also has Eye Comfort shield that lessens blue light that won't be comfy in the eyes especially in the evenings.

Your imagination would surely be the only limit with this phone, it ain't that expensive either at Php 11,990. You can get it in Samsung online or Experience Stores nationwide. ASUS Outs ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo OLED 15

 

Seeing the new ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo OLED 15 made me drool today. This is indeed the laptop of tomorrow as it is designed for the working man's needs.Built with a 4K OLED HD display and a built in tilting secondary screen on the bottom, it could so much especially for the creatives and professionals who would need more workspace in this day and age.

During the event today, they had premier Wedding Videographer/Visual Storyteller Jason Magbanua (my kumpare hehe) and landscape/travel and architectural photographer Nicco Valenzuela. Thing is, these people live and breathe editing and with the requirements in their industry, they would need something that is powerful and very reliable. The tasks they need to do is no joke as they play around with images and videos that are not only huge, but would need rendering as well. The tilting screen can give you the capability not only to see the whole picture, but lets you multitask. It also displays the most accurate colors which is quite needed in a common day for creatives like us.

The new ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo OLED 15 box comes with manuals, a pen, the actual unit which was unboxed during Jason's portion. He also took time to edit the video they've shown on the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo OLED 15. Technically and creatively it puts a lot of pressure with weddings as he's pretty well known for SDE's or same day edits. Nico on the other hand needs to meticulously edit huge images, put a lot of attention to details and remove things that are not pleasing to the eyes and not see a single speck of it in the output. They already have experience with the first generation of ZenBook Pro Duo but this made them realize it has answered even more of their workloads, it still had so many things to improve and they've done that in the new ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo OLED 15. Performance wise, it's super easy to drag and drop things, it boots up fast, and has an i9-10980HK processor that can take on huge tasks you need to do in it. They have an i7-10870H version with the same 32GB RAM and 1TB PCIE storage and an RTX 3070 GPU which can do a lot in one sitting. The tilting screen makes a lot of difference for Jason and Nico, they an put all the notes, the controls, so they can drag and drop on the secondary screen and put the sequence and titles on the bottom. The display will get dedicated on the output, which is so convenient for them since they can use different software at the same time without worrying where to put it when you're working with something else. It's maximum performance with these hardware.
