It's Time For Change in KUMAGCOW's Site!

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

T
here will be huge changes happening on this site as far as content is concerned. I was a spectator in the recent Philippine Blog Awards and there was one thing that struck me when the nominees were announced... they all had categories on their site. Yes, I was not quite so sure what category I would fall on since I am talking about current events and treating this site like a personal open journal. I wonder where I would start... I was too general to begin with because just like my mind, I'm too broad to be contained in one criteria. Unlike my other site that only talks about technology, KUMAGCOW.COM has always been anything under the sun. Will I settle for anything less or will I go with the norm of the Philippine Blogging World?

If there would be implementation of changes around here, I would probably be the biggest contradiction in history. Do I really have to change to get noticed in the first place? Or will I beg to differ? There are pros and cons on this particular aspect because how would my writing fit a hugely sectarian format when my mind blabbers each time a subject, thing or event happens. If you check out what I have been writing about, it only depicts my everyday life. Food, life, news, photography, products, reviews, sports, stories and my family. It's also random so I don't think you can contain me.

Technology, Travel, Entertainment, Personal(Diarist/JournaL), Food & Beverage, Family & Living, News & Media, Business, Sports, Hobby & Recreation, Fashion, Photoblog,Culture and Arts, Commentary, Videocast, Podcast, Humor, Gaming, Advocacy or Beauty. Where do you think I fit in?

More than a Poker Face

Sunday, October 11, 2009

I have been playing poker since time in memorial. I have won a couple of hands when I needed it most but then I know that I have a lot to learn about the game. Because apparently when I lose, I lose a lot!

It could have been easily prevented if I only read some articles in http://www.howtowinattexasholdem.net/ before I went ahead and played a few months ago. I know that just by viewing a couple of paragraphs in the site it has changed my outlook on the game tremendously. Texas Holdem Rules did not indicate what was said there and they will give you professional advice how NOT to lose a game. It was as straight forward as expected and it will teach you a lot. Maybe I have forgotten the basics as anyone predicted but I will continue to improve my game with the help of the things I learned from them. If there was one thing I do regret, it was not reading these articles earlier. I could have saved my self the humiliation of losing to my friends and other people. Time to stretch my fingers and push my luck again on this awesome game! Wish me luck because I need more to this than a poker face!

University of the East Red Warriors... BE PROUD!

Okay, the other school won but I won't give them the pleasure of mentioning their team name in my site. But then again the University of the East Red Warriors gave their all in Game 3 but it was not enough to win over the other team. It was okay for me because I have seen their dedication and the effort that they put on the game. Weather they win or lose, it was the way they battled the other school that mattered. I am proud to be a warrior... and they should be too even if they did not win the championship.

They won game 2 with a whopping 20 points so they went through another game just to see who would win the championship so i could not say enough about the effort they gave for the school. Coach Chiongson was also laudable because coming from a league different from this format, he still was able to get the guys into shape to win 1st runner up. They have exceeded people's expectations... for that alone I am proud of them. So for the players, hold your head up high and be proud of what you have accomplished... be proud you are a warrior! =)

Bath Robe Blues

Thursday, October 08, 2009

When I went to Hong Kong a couple of years ago, I stayed in a hotel that was frequently gone to by tourists. The amenities were not as impressive as I thought it would be but for a 4 star rating I expected more than that. After walking and shopping the whole day, I rested and lifted my tired feet before I took a shower. I did the usual thing, soap and shampoo, and a towel was available but guess what; when I looked for a bath robe, there was none!

I know how it feels; the frustration I felt was there. I thought about bringing my own when I was packing but I guess it is too late. A towel wrap would have done wonders in this situation too. If you think about it, the problem should have been fixed by the hotel when I called customer service. Too bad, I had to even wish for an interpreter when I did that ha-ha!

Mom and Dad had to go out and travel quite a bit to get ample amount of things for the shower. It would not be a pretty sight if we had to share towels you know. I wish I purchased that waffle bath robe when we saw it on their web site. Mom could have used that for this occasion. The other one called terry bath robe would be nice if one of us got that too. We would probably get these things the next time we travel again so we would not have any problems anymore.

The Red Tribe Prepares for Tomorrow

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

The Red Tribe which is composed of Alumni, Students, Faculty and supporters of the University of the East Red Warriors is preparing heavily for tomorrow's game. A lot of surprises will be brought upon the antagonist Ateneo crowd. They will be answering each bit of that ticket hoarder crowd even if they are going to be only a quarter of the Araneta Coliseum. I am a witness to their strength so if they plan to have more in store tomorrow then I will have to look forward on what they will show the crowd. The last time they made PLAY FAIR boosters that had a peso sign indicated on it signifying paid referees maybe culprits of non calls. There were obvious lapses on the first game. I wonder what statement they'll have this Thursday... but I'm sure they will be responsible enough to jeer at the right time LOL

I would not be able to go to this do or die match between Ateneo and UE but I'm sure they know I will support them no matter what is the outcome of this last game. If we lose then I am already proud of their achievement. If they win, then by golly we will definitely have a BIG celebration than the other school LOL!

Go Fight Red and White! Go UE! Beat that Blue Eagle Crowd... =)

Nap Mat Wonders!

I need to take some well deserved sleep when I get home. I am sick right now but am optimistic that with enough rest, I would be able to recuperate and be 100% at work. I could probably sleep in the office lounge but I do not like the old mats and sleeping bags that they have. I am afraid of getting more sick because I do not trust them if they said that it has been hygienically treated. I would not want to gamble with that and I probably need to purchase my own nap mat.

Kids in school should probably have one too because the spread of disease is imminent. If you are parents who have their kids sleep in preschool you should definitely take a look at the stephen joseph quilted backpack. They could have all their things on it and be comfortable at the same time. Or they could also get the ordinary stephen joseph backpack so even on times they need to be a little rugged for play you know they will be safe. I would be recommending this now to my nephews and nieces so when school resumes they would get the best thing money could buy.

Sorry I'm Sick

Well it's the start of my shift in the office but I'm sick. Yeah, I have colds, cough and probably flu. I wish I could go home and rest but I think I won't be enjoying that anyway so I'm staying in the office instead. Hopefully no on will be getting any viruses from me. I am under medication and am feeling a lot better than when I got out of the office this morning.

Well half meant but it's really getting better I hope. The weather is getting better, I hope to be done with this soon so I could work without grimacing every time my nose hurts. A runny nose while typing and looking at things don't go together but I think I am surviving.

I'm even hungry... all I ate this morning was soups and salad. Not really what I was looking for but it was just so so. I wish the medicine just work the moment I take it. Why does everything have to be so hard... it should have been instantaneous!

I hope I would feel better later =)

Oh Canada! Check Out How to Win Your Dream Kitchen!

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Canada has been like a second home for me. Almost all my relatives have migrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba during the 80's and have established better lives there. Some of them work for the Government and some of them work for private institutions. Some of them also have put up their own businesses and have built their lives better than when they were here. They are the same people that read my articles from time to time. With that in mind, this particular news is for them. I am writing for them now!

This is their chance to have a kitchen makeover. Yes it's true! Maple Leaf Market just recently announced that they are giving away a $32,000 Dream Kitchen and 12 Frigidaire® fridges to celebrate the launch of their new web site everyday! I just visited them and boy was I surprised how easy it was to navigate through their menus and the graphics were all outstanding! It feels like you were talking directly to the butcher, the Baker and the Pasta Maker. They even suggest easy meals while you are at it. There is really nothing better than home cooked meals but they just made it easier for everyone to cook since they have all the things prepared in the store. We can probably just grab them from a store near you, go home, put them in one pot, and then wait for it to cook! I love the part where the butcher even demonstrates how to prepare beef medallions and chicken because I could probably ask my relatives out for barbecue! Yum-O!

If I win that kitchen they are giving away, I would probably have a modern one and get the best appliances to follow a monochromatic theme. I would also like to have a simple yet functional one with a bar so I could entertain people while I cook. So make sure you join this contest today and get that dream kitchen of yours into reality!

SOLD OUT! : UE Red Warriors vs Ateneo Blue Eagles

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen... the game between UE and Ateneo tomorrow is already sold out according to ticketnet people. There were a couple of students and alumni from UE who lined up in Araneta this morning only to find out they ran out of tickets. It is sad because there were lots of scalpers and Yaya's and Drivers who probably purchased tickets for Atenistas... a not so fair way of getting tickets IMHO.

Imagine last Game # 2 they even got some of the seats from UE side. I really wonder where and when these guys would stop being unfair in hoarding tickets... this was also the case in the Ateneo DLSU games a couple of years back. There should be an outright equal distribution of tickets so we can blow them away with Warrior battlecry's come Game number 3 tomorrow. I would bet they would never out cheer UE... I saw them trying that and the only time they were successful was on their OBF cheer... not impressive... they will hear boos from me hahahaha!

Look, even the mythical 5 says it all... UE got spots for Elmer Espiritu and Paul Lee!

I
t has been 5 months since I have taken photography seriously and have amassed about 5000 or more pictures. This is because I have been a lot of places and taken this hobby of mine into another level ever since I got my D60 camera. My hard drive space is closely filling up because I have been taking raw images since the very beginning as advised by my mentors so I could post process them easily. I have taken in consideration purchasing additional storage but I guess it is quite expensive. I would have to save quite an amount before I could buy network storage that would fit my need.

In the meantime, I would need to have my backups done on CD and DVD since that is the cheaper alternative. I may have to consider getting professionals to do this job since I would not want to lose months of information and images. I know the feeling of losing years of work because I have not secured people who know what they are doing. I lost 4 years of email when I got some random friend do that handy work for me. I do not want to be completely disappointed when it comes to these. DVD Mastering in Boston has never been better. It is one place to go to for graphic and print production facilities. They take care of these needs and let experts do the job for you. The DVD Mastering Boston has; sets it apart from state competitors because they believe in not sacrificing quality. I would not want to commit the same mistake I did a couple of months ago. I had to re associate all my sent items just to have a vague description of my in box because I never recovered my files. The CD Mastering Boston takes pride for is another thing to look at because they also are at par with the world's best when it comes to duplication, and Digital Offset Printing. Make the right choice like what people are doing in the Boston area and you would never be afraid of losing tons of work!
