Is That True 5G You're Getting?

Wednesday, October 02, 2024

It must have been so exciting to hear that you have 5G with your mobile network provider, but there lies the question, are you really getting true 5G connection?

It must have been just a bandwagon they tried to ride during their launch, but most of it is just what we already have, much of which is 4G and its predecessors. Real 5G connection is 20 times faster and a lot better, so when they say that you have it, it should feel that way, it should show you are getting the 5G connection you were promised.

5G connections are 20GB's per second, have super less latency and is reliable. DITO has it, they use 5G SA so you can have true 5G experience. Some networks only use 5G using 4G and LTE towers, which more or less employ 5G NSA, it doesn't bring you to the full potential you need in mobile connection... so don't be fooled.

Inifinix NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G: What Can You Do in 22 Minutes?

Saturday, May 04, 2024

I
t's been a luxury to have a phone years back, but with the age of smartphones, it became part of our lives. Sometimes, it's a life line where you get the news, anything you need to know in the world as you access the internet on it. You can also connect to social networks to talk to friends and family. Add to that the convenient apps so you can buy stuff, shop, or go from point A to point B.

That's all fun though, til you see the battery turn red when you need it the most. This would never happen with the Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G, because from the start... you get charging taken cared of. The wired connection gets you 100W Fast Charge while if you prefer, you can use the 20W Wireless Charging instead. Best of all, it can get the batteries charged til 100%, all in 22 minutes.

22 minutes is a cake baked, a whole restaurant order served, or a few drinks prepared. Else, it's time to watch your favorite actres, Vlogger and YouTube star, Ivana Alawi. She's got over 17.7 Million subscribers, and still represent Infinix as their brand ambassadress.

Ivana can relate as she says "These days, I do almost everything with the Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G. I love that I don't have to worry about charging because it does it fast. Takes only a few minutes!"

22 minutes is the same time you spend in making a one pot rice meal, or even putting on make up before you go out. It's also the same time you spend listening to Taylor Swift, or maybe run around to get your 10K steps you've set as a goal last year LOL! If you get the Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G, you also get a MagCase and MagPad as part of your MagKit.

The Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G is priced at Php 13,999. The Infinix NOTE 40 on the other hand is set at Php 10,999. You can get them now via TikTok Shop, Shopee or Lazada. If you want to know more about it, just go to the Infinix Philippines Facebook page. They also announce promos in the same place, so if you're in the look for your next phone, give Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G a try!

HONOR Launches TOUGHEST PHONE X9a 5G in the Philippines

Tuesday, January 24, 2023

Influencers, stars, HONOR's Brand Marketing Manager Joepy Libo-on, their Vice President Stephen Cheng, Country Manager Sean Yuan, GTM Manager Steven Yan, and their PR Manager Pao Oga during the launch of HONOR X9a 5G

It was a short but fun day to witness the launch of the newest phone from the folks at HONOR Philippines, the new HONOR X9a 5G. Although, HONOR has been in the country in previous years, this is sort of their comeback after not releasing phones in the country for years now.

The supposed strong comeback was met with excitement as they literally had their phone tested in person at the grounds of Taal Vista in Tagaytay City. The HONOR X9a 5G was set through different tests from smashing it into garlic, pistachio nuts (shells and all), walnuts, to being a target by toy pellet guns, smashing with a badminton shuttlecock, drop tests at 5ft, and the piece de resistance, having it be run over by a real deal car.

For starters, it's got one of the nicest phone displays I've seen. With its 6.67 inch 120Hz Premium OLED Curved Display, and a 93% screen to body ratio, those movies, games and videos become a bit more immersive than usual. I've been playing CODM and Mobile Legends on it and it feels absolutely incredible.

I've had several people comment about the back camera placements but I think it was done so weight could be distributed on the screen surface (makes sense?), and if I'd be worried about it design wise, I've seen HONOR put designs on that circle frame which means you've got a lot of options to personalize it, another deciding factor. It's also got a 5000mAh battery which means you can have your phone be used for 2 days without worrying you would run out of juice. It takes around 30 minutes to be charged and that would be so convenient for people on the go. This comes in 2 colorways Titanium Silver and Emerald Green, I like the green one the most but that's personal preference.

You may pre-order it now for only Php 16,990 and comes with a free HONOR Earbuds Lite worth Php 3,990. Get them HERE!

This would really be best for those who often drop their phones. I'm a clumsy one and if can withstand a beating or a car running over it, then it's best for me. Now go find your own HONOR today.

OPPO Teases PH with Find X5 Pro 5G

Thursday, May 26, 2022

There's so much appreciation for good things, so when OPPO had us do a physical event... I couldn't wait to see what they had in store for us to see this evening. I had an event in the morning and planned to go home and dress up, but plans changed and just shopped for it instead. I haven't seen a lot of blogger friends covering, but that kinda changed.

In a nutshell, OPPO is letting us experience one of their newest flagship phones in the market called OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G. The phone is special as it employs 80W SuperVOOC Charging, 1 Billion Colour Bionic Display, plus ColorOS 12.1 powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 which is a processing monster.

To tell you honestly, I would probably buy something like this just on aesthetics because when I saw how it looked like face value, I was impressed. The modern design, the shiny exterior (you couldn't even take photos of it as light was reflecting from it in Glaze Black). They also have this in Ceramic White version, which I both dig.

The newest phone has 12GB RAM, 256GB ROM, QHD (3216x1440) 92.7% screen ratio display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The camera is 50MP F/1.7 aperture, plus 50MP Ultra Wide Angle Camera at F/2.2 and macro support. They also had a 13MP Telephoto Cam with an F/2.4 fixed focus for far subjects if you need it. The front camera is a 32MP F/2.4, you can take all the selfies and be left satisfied. I've tried some of the features like slow motion, dual view (lovely for vloggers), stickers, time lapse, portrait mode, among other things it does. It's capable of shooting up to 4K, you've got room for that in storage so those movies you plan to make with it would become really convincing.

Sad News: Unfortunately this event was just done for us to experience it. This specific model won't be released in the Philippines as they're concentrating mid range and the different series they have. Though they might be able to do it if clamor comes so ask if you feel like it... especially on their social channels because they do listen to customer feedback.

Fun to also see our boy Bret Jackson who's still got a lot of music in the pipeline. I've been missing this guy a lot since we haven't seen each other for years. He's got a few singles out and some under him and James Reid's Careless Music. It was also fun to see OPPO's executives saying hi over cocktails, it was a really fun night... thank you OPPO! :)

This makes Siriraj the first and largest 5G Smart Hospital in the whole region and brings top of the line technology within reach of patients, medical heiarchy. They have already started several projects with 5G Portable Medical Boxes, 5G Unmanned Vehicles, 5G Medical Carts and 5G enabled Hospital Beds. They aim to implement this on a large scale next year in around 30 other applications, a step forward in healthcare in Thailand. Huawei's Got Green 5G

Tuesday, October 19, 2021

In the recent Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei's Executive Director and President of Carrier Business Group discussed Green 5G Networks for a Low-Carbon Future. In it, he reiterated how the technology would spur growth especially with the increase in data traffic. Harnessing innovation in the way it consumes energy should also be done in technologies involved in power supply, distribution, of its use and how it is managed. It should perform at a higher degree but have lower energy consumption over all. In a sense, it's an effort to build more green 5G networks.

The problem currently is that there's small penetration of it in countries and they won't see its returns and value if it ain't utilized by a greater number of people. According to him, 5G drives rapid growth of mobile data traffic and at the rate that it is going now, energy consumption will be ten times higher if switching to it doesn't happen. They have a range of products that addresses this including iSolar power supplies. It will lessen dependencies on fossil fuel. He also mentioned that this has been utilized in over 100 countries, slowly inching their way to put green efforts in everything they do. Quite noble if it gets traction. It'll be nice to see things realized especially the green results they want to happen even before that year.

You may check huawei.com for more information about this.

Looking for Gifts? Here are OPPO Specials!

Friday, October 01, 2021

The holidays are coming and you're looking for a gift to give that special someone but don't know where to start, well here's guide we can give you especially for people who are into tech, your boyfriends included.

Check what he's into. If he's into gaming, social media, robotics, try and see what he often carries around when you're in a date, or when you hangout in his house, see what things he's into especially when you've been comfortable enough to spend overnight in his room, see where he geeks out on and take note. That would probably be a good place to start.

Look out for deals. Now, there are a lot of brands out there but see who's giving out a lot of discounts of freebies before you decide on what to buy. Take your own sweet time to compare with others if the specs make sense with what your boyfriend needs because it would be sad if it weren't an upgrade especially if he's good at MOBA and FPS games.

If you've chosen a specific model and brand, start watching reviews. YouTube has a lot of first hand experience documented. So whether you're choosing a phone, pc build, tech bloggers probably had them before it came out in the market. It's a good thing brands let vloggers borrow stuff from them so you don't have to second guess, just listen to the reputable ones that doesn't seem like they're pitching it to you like a salesman.

OPPO has some mean ones like the OPPO Reno6 Z5G and the OPPO Reno6 5G. They're fondly called Portrait Master because of the way it takes portrait shots which would be perfect if you're into selfies, or taking photos of loved ones. It also has Boke Flare Portrait, Portrait Beautification and AI so you can take those social media photos you're posting to another level. You have more reason to brag about him, or him to brag about you and look good in shots, why not right?

Here's Mary Bautista's review about the phone

OPPO has specials on your favorite shopping apps and I heard, they're taking 40 percent off on iot devices like the Enco Buds, Brand, Enco Air, Enco X and their smartphones from the A and Reno series. They've also giving away free Smart Watches when you get the Reno6 so really, that's a pretty good deal right there. It only will last until October 3 though, you've got to see them at the oppo.com/ph site if you want to get one today. Follow their social channels too (search OPPO Philippines on Facebook) because they announce their offers there too.

 Not even kidding.

Kathryn Bernardo and Alodia Hints New realme 5G Smartphone?

Tuesday, June 15, 2021

There are leaks, but there are some really obvious hints of a new 5G smartphone from realme with these two posts from Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo and Cosplay Queen Alodia Gosengfiao. realme as you may know has already copped the #1 spot in sales figures released since third quarter last year and continue to grow despite the pandemic.

5G structure has already been built in the past couple of years and utilizing it as it becomes available is surely the way to go. But there are only a few phones that are capable of it. realme has of course proven itself in the manners of making it quality, powerful, but affordable. In Kathryn's post, she was just casually telling how she's now started to pick up gaming as a hobby delving into popular ones like Call of Duty Mobile,  Mobile Legends Bang Bang, League of Legends Wild Rift and PUBG Mobile among others. Then Alodia did a screen shot and placed a couple of hashtags signifying #InfinitePossibilitieswith5G and tells Kat that it's going to be exciting from here. Well that to me is a clear indication of a 5G phone we have no knowledge of yet.

Seems to me it's about to happen soon. Better follow their social channels so you get first dibs, or better yet follow @kumagcow so we could hang and talk about it more. Like their previous releases, I hope it's affordable, powerful and of quality.

Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin in "Be Unstoppable with Smart 5G" Campaign

Monday, February 22, 2021

Looks like Smart Communications is making 5G more possible in the country by rolling out network projects left and right, plus having Korean superstars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin as their brand ambassadors too.

FVP Consumer Wireless of Smart Ms. Jane Basas says "This is another milestone in our country and we have featured Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin plus the music of Ben&Ben in our ad released during Valentines day. We also have Smart Signature, and the success of our Crash Landing on You stars Asian superstars campaign and our offers have been brought out. We owe this to our subscribers who love them and the trust of our customers propelled us to make this into a reality. We will do our best to serve you better, to put a smile on your face. When we started our campaign initially with Hyun Bin, people clamored for more and wanted Son Ye Jin in the commercials. We decided to have them both and renew them too, we might see them soon as they owe us a visit to the Philippines and perhaps a live online event, we'll have to fix that in the next few weeks. Our objective is simple, it is our way how much we love subscribers, to tell you honestly it wasn't easy. To bring both of them together is really a lot of hard work, plus most loved band Ben&Ben to make original music for this campaign, INEVITABLE is our love song to our customers, the kind of hard work we do, it's our best, our best postpaid plans and best 5G network."

Corporate Marketing and Strategy for Smart Lloys Manaloto says "We promise a superior network, now we are the fastest as measured by Ookla and Open signal. Now you can stream videos seamlessly, no lags with 5G. It gives us a new platform, fiber like speeds on mobile has changed the way we connect. World class digital services is now on our fingertips and all these is because Smart ako!"

VP for Postpaid Mark Dimagiba says "We are constantly partnering with phone manufacturers in order enjoy 5G and plans now include unlimited call and texts among other services. We want to make the impossible possible. iPhone, Samsung, Huawei and Vivo already have launched 5G phones. 5G is part of our tech platform, part of our network, we have the nationwidest LTE already, but now with 5G we will have fiber like speeds on your mobile so you can get exceptional speeds with the new technology."

Ben&Ben says "We didn't really force anything with the creative song, what Smart wanted to achieve was in line with what we wanted to pull off as a band. It was just like, we flowed in the same direction and it's a beautiful partnership. After talking with Smart and over the holidays, I thought of the song and it was inspired by personal experiences in the past few months. I shared it with the band over the holidays and we got back, it was just good in its rawest form. It just happened. It tells the story of two contrasting feelings, one of mystery, one of certainty, and the music we made for it just highlighted it, it was just inevitable. We're really excited because Hyun Bin was going to be part of it and Son Ye Jin, it was super kilig for us because we thought of the couple too when we made it. The message is no matter how hard things are now, the good things are bound to happen, whether it's love life, career, family, finances, you'll really attain it when you keep it real, it's inevitable."

Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin says in a video message "I'm very happy to see you in Smart's project, we have prepared something for you. Simple Smart ako!" then they showed us their bts for their latest commercial with Smart.

Now there's a lot to look forward to in the next few months, few years in fact. Aside from the Korean superstars, there will be lots of things to see in the 5G technology that they're rolling into the country. Wish I can get a plan with it soon!

Valentines Day became even more special for fans of K Drama Kings and Queens Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin. The two stars of Crash Landing On You topbills Smart Communications advertisement for their promotion of Smart's 5G connection where you can indeed get more with the fastest connection.

This was something that Smart executives hinted when they came out with the Hyun Bin ad a couple months back as they really didn't want him to be lonely. Today was a nice day to fulfill that.

As of this writing, the video has garnered half a million views in almost 24 hours, pretty strong showing. The power of 5G marks Smart's latest offering of the fastest upload and download speeds on mobile and as they roll out the technology to different parts of the country. Pretty soon, more 5G phones will come out and the connection will be ready for it.

Scenes from their show also were shown on the ad, and that might tie in on data packages they will offer with Netflix wherein that show is shown in the Philippines. The music on this particular ad was created for Smart by top Philippine band Ben&Ben. Go check out the YouTube video here and experience 5G with Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin.

I like the part where they said "Simple Smart Ako!". So, did you guys love them even more?

What 5G Means For YOU

Tuesday, November 24, 2020

This phone is 5G ready!

Everybody is rushing to adapt to the technology of 5G and not all countries have been able to make headway in actually putting up necessary hardware for it. It also takes manpower, tons of investments as permanent structures will be put in place so we can get speeds up even in far flung places. These days, it's more of a necessity as tech becomes a driving force in the economy. This ain't different in the Philippines of course. Homes, payments, even transportation is dependent on connection. The smartphone has become a pretty powerful tool to stay informed, and connected to the world. Although these days, we know there are tons of Filipinos who are still oblivious of what it can do. If all 5G implementation gets done in the country, it'll be totally different. One asks, what would it really benefit the ordinary Juan?

Think of 5G as a new band that would be able to do faster speeds, carry higher bandwidth and have really low latency versus what we use now which is 4G. Think of it as a solution to lags and delays as it can make your connection super smooth and fast. It will change your current digital experience.

Here are some examples of what 5G enables us to do:

You can send and receive things instantly

Low latency means you get things faster than ever. Text messages, photos, videos, would get much less buffering when you're connected to it. You can make your video calls and chat seamless, with little to no trouble doing it. The same goes for downloads even for huge files, it'll take a shorter amount of time which is so good for people who want to share their stories. This goes the same to content creators too.

You'll be Buffer Free!

End users have consumed content on the internet at an all time high. As we all become confined to our homes because of the pandemic, this would be very useful. Your video streaming platforms, your video sites, all get little to no lag even at higher video quality. It can accomodate huge files even on wireless connections, a thing that people need even at work, studying or play. You would be able to stream with no interruptions, no more waiting at times, which is so good right?

Gaming like there's no tomorrow!

If you're the type that hates lags, dragging, dropped packets and all that mumbo jumbo that happens right in a middle of a game, then this is good news. The deal is, you won't experience that anymore in a perfect day. That alone is just humongous news right? Now that also does wonders for your online games, your reaction time, your ability to point a gun virtually, and just about any task you need to do. It can make or break a win, and no gamer would want to be in the receiving end of that word called defeat.

More Smart Devices

The huge speed, bandwidth upgrades and very low latencycan get your smart and IOT devices connected for more reasons that one. The ability to network, connect and see data faster will get you more flexibility so you can take charge of your own home.

See 5G take over the market supported devices

The 5G phenomenon will make users switch to even better hardware so they can support the standard. The vivo V20 Pro has this copped with its sleek and stylish design. The Vivo V20 Pro also did it in its thinnest form, so imagine how that would be for those who would want to switch, a capable phone that is affordable, doesn't that sound so right?

It also carries a 7nm octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor that can do 5G connection. No more struggles in dead spots like stairs, enclosed areas and zones. It's already available in Shopee and Lazada. You can also get it in Vivo concept stores across the country. You may check vivoglobal.ph if you want to know more about it.

What Does 5G Mean for Smartphones Now?

Friday, November 20, 2020

Head of Vivo Communication Research Institute Qin Fei

Times have indeed changed and with the recent release of 5G bands this year, what does it mean for the smartphone industry? In a recent article written by the Head of Vivo Communication Research Institute Qin Fei, he mentioned several things that would probably happen in the next few years as the ownership of smartphones will eventually reach up to 50 percent this 2020 (despite pandemic fears) and a huge 70% come 2025. He also said that the way we look at smartphones now will change with the arrival of 5G. People will be accessing the internet more on these handsets, so the need for a better and faster connection is not far behind. 5G connections can also improve and increase the consumption of content.  The higher speeds mean we would get quality videos, more immersive gaming experiences. It can also be used for health applications, building smart cities and even make automated transport a possibility if implemented well.

Vivo sees that the smartphone will become a central device which will enable users to utilize it for information and services. They also earmarked how Southeast Asia gets about 93% of its traffic from smartphones and about 63% on desktops, which would mean there’s a huge market in these channels and will need handsets that can do functions that would help that happen. This also means smartphone manufacturers need to rethink and re-imagine their approach and design.

Change with 5G

It will change the way we do things, especially the development of smart devices. Since it is 5G, its capacity to carry even bigger data can make tons of things possible and not just remain with switches. This could also change core elements of smartphones. This may hasten manufacturers to dish out even bigger screens, curved or bendable ones, or maybe make it super light in the next 5 or 10 years. Vivo has even changed some of their displays recently, putting the actual camera on the screen instead of the notches they did in the past. In the future, improvement in the processors and memory while remaining in small factor can make phones carry even more powerful cameras which can take better photos and videos which could rival even the human eye.

The future is AI

Change will happen on how the smartphone displays, sound and touch. In the near future, it will have the most change among other features of phones. It will get input and interface all done via hand gestures, audio commands and multi touch. AI also will get to benefit those who would want to utilize smartphone features as it becomes a primordial part of changing settings, optimizing hardware for gaming functions or even in taking photos. Vivo already started sharing the technology with engineers via mentorship, international conferences and collaborations, so they could change their approach and use this new band in applications that could take the smartphone game in different levels.

These are exciting times as there will be huge changes in the coming years. Change will also be abrupt, and challenges in the technology will be identified fast. 5G has come a long way since its inception in 2016, and growth will happen as standards get developed. Developers, phone manufacturers and users will be part of this, and Vivo has been there to support and realize it.

Ericsson Philippines Celebrates 30th with 5G

Wednesday, August 08, 2018

It’s Ericsson Philippines 30th Anniversary and what better way to showcase how they make life easy but with good new 5G Technology. The primary goal is how this can transmit 23 Gbps in their 5G trial technology, a thing that could get up to US$ 1.8 Billion revenue potential in the Philippines come 2026.

Nunzio Mirtillo Ericsson’s Head of Market Area for East Asia, Oceania and India says “You have to invest in technology in order to take the lead. Data traffic is increasing dramatically, going faster than expected and it is true in Southeast Asia. 5G in North America has about 50% of the subscriptions, we need 5G in the long run. We have new trials around the world and 5G must be learned, we will also go commercial quickly. Mobile broadband is basic, it will help operators make revenue around it. Traffic in the Philippines will grow 8x and we need to see technology go up while getting costs down. The massive IOT can change business models, it is obviously good to have it. We have to work with operators and start testing technology. The spectrum also should be available so free trials, inter operability tests, we also need to have competent people on the ground. The government should also be well prepared and have 5G available for the country. We celebrate this all, as we have been doing good for 30 years.”

Joachim Horn of Smart, John Terrenal of ABSCBN, Edward Chou of Intel and Martin Wiktorin of Ericsson Philippines

This is just the start of opportunities, it’s not just faster speeds, but the communication between points, 5G will be the first standard that will have enterprise lines. If we do not seize it, we’ll get left by the train. We will be doing this ahead of the others together with Japan and South Korea.

Driveless cars, remote surgeries, AR and VR applications, the possibilities are endless. Having this ecosystem needs to be done in the next few years. They need to renovate networks and hopefully they would be able to do this come 2020.

Mr. Mirtillo also adds “Thank you to our partners, our customers, the government who made things easy for us to do business here in the Philippines.”

Congratulations Ericsson!

Smart Introduces 5G LTE-A Network in the Country!

Saturday, August 16, 2014

Mr. Orlando B. Vea, Chief Wireless Advisor of Smart during the tests of 5G LTE-A technology in 2013; where they recorded 209.66 mbps speeds in the Philippines.

In the eve of the rising number of Filipinos clamouring for better and faster Internet connection, the nations largest network Smart Communications just announced the first ever use of 5G LTE in the Philippines by switching to this state in  the Smart JUMP Center in Mandaluyong City.

Mobile operators elsewhere in the world like AT&T and T-Mobile has this and it has delivered data of up to 100 megabits per second (mbps) to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) which is alomst ten times faster than 3G. You can also compare that to be more than twice as fast as current 4G services in the country.

This new LTE-A technology is something historical as this pegs Smart to be in the ranks of a few carriers in the world that has it. Smart just made the Philippines stand along with other leading mobile operators in South Korea, United States, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong. Now that this is going to be available in the country, we would be soon  enjoying dreamy 5G speeds as they roll out these changes in more regions in the Philippines.

This has been a possible task as Smart also utilizes the PLDT Fiber Optic Cable connection. They say it's already around 90,000 Kilometers of underwater cabling installed and they'll be continuing to install lines in the Visayas and Mindanao region to prevent redundant ones. It's going to be faster and better soon and it'll benefit millions of Filipinos. As long as you're with Smart, you're gonna get there!
