RHIAN RAMOS, JC SANTOS Take On Complex Characters in PM Productions "MEG & RYAN"

Saturday, July 12, 2025

A word was uttered around the venue when we were interviewing the cast of "Meg & Ryan", it was UNDERRATED, which we felt was certainly an apt one after meeting the stars of the movie under Pocket Media Films.

Lead stars Rhian Ramos and JC Santos will be doing this romantic comedy film together with the cast award winning actor Cedrick Juan, Ces Quesada, Cris Villanueva, Jef Gaitan, JMee Katanyag, and social media stars Steven Bansil and Poca Osinaga, plus beauty queen Alison Black.

While isn't first film to be directed by Direk Catherine O. Camarillo, this is somehow her first foray in the love story-romcom genre. "This is another masterpiece that I want to share with you, which I hope you would be able to give awareness to the audience, give them a fair chance to watch this in cinemas this coming August 5, 2025. (watched trailer, she became very emotional and said)  I am just overwhelmed seeing them on screen because they really look good together. Doing this was quite easy because I had some of the best actors to work with. It was quite to put them in what I envisioned in the film. I've done so many projects in the past that made me do compromises, I didn't have to do that here. I gave it my all, and got the ones I wanted to have in this project. I'm so happy I was able to do that in Meg & Ryan. I also felt the support of my cast, they respected the material, they loved this film as much as I did."

Rhian says "I haven't had drunk episodes where I wasn't aware of what I was doing. Either that, or may I just couldn't remember it. I really enjoyed the whole experience because JC is such a generous actor. If there's something he could do to help in the execution of a scene, he will. He will go farther than what is expected of him. It's not just the acting part that he's going to do, he contributes in the lines, change it to what feels more natural in the scenes. He really envibes what would Ryan do or say. It really helped me and made my job super easy! I really love complex characters, those with flaws, to make sense of people. Meg is an @lcoh0lic, opposites attract, I've seen Direk Catherine's previous films and wanted to work with JC which is why I wanted to do this. This is how I view love also, we have our own journey, when you find someone who understand that about you, it needs to be watched and told."

JC Santos added "Actually everybody here was easy to work with. This is what's great about a collaboration because you can feel if you match. We enjoyed the process even the challenges, Rhian Ramos is a part of my bucket list and I'm seeing it now. I see how she gives the truth in her scenes. Even Tita Ces, Direk Catherine gives us freedom so we get our personalities in the mix. I also really wanted to work with Direk Catherine, and seeing the script, it's a different kind of love. It's something new, puberty at 35, he is complex, a bit difficult to do but I think we succeeded in creating this character."

Here's the press conference in full:

Aside from being shown in the Philippines, this will also have a theater run in Australia and New Zealand on August 14th. Please support Filipino films as these don't come cheap in production. They're taking a huge risk because they want to help the industry. The love story between Meg & Ryan was created by prolific writer Gina Marissa Tagasa. The soundtrack is also a fun version of Torete, which will make you feel a bit of nostalgia. This took a while before it was released, but from the looks of it, it has all the ingredients to make you connect with the story of Meg and Ryan. Go watch it on theaters, and see the trailers on their social channels because they already have 2 out!

JM DE GUZMAN and SUE RAMIREZ Define Love Differently in LASTING MOMENTS

Tuesday, June 03, 2025

Took a break from events and watched a movie premiere last night as one of my favorite actors JM De Guzman and talented actress Sue Ramirez star in a Director Fifth Solomon project called Lasting Moments. This is under PASSION5 Studios.

Before we went to the red carpet, we took the chance to interview them and Director Fifth bared how it was a little problematic to release a film like this because of the recent line of foreign films that are showing also in the same dates they planned. They had to adjust and had to compromise doing it in July 30th to make sure enough theaters could carry them, not the fault of theater owners as he said.

Direk Fifth told us "The struggle of Filipino films is obvious, to see change, we need to talk about it so we could see what we need to help the industry, and its workers. I want to throw the question on how we can compete with foreign films. I understand the business, the malls on how they choose things where they could earn. We need the government help to not only survive, but have ample screens to show our work. We hope they could trust us, July 30 is going to be the date we are showing our work, this is a call for help. Lasting Moments needs to be seen."

Here's a glimpse of the red carpet where several friends of the lead stars and director also supported. We saw several Drag Race Philippines alumni and rumored Slaysian Royale cast. There were also several influencers and artists at the venue, and watched with us later in the evening.

I've watched Fifth Solomon's previous films and I must say, this has definitely outdone those. He also wrote this, and evidently, this has been researched a lot because of the several things you would see in the movie. He took time to establish characters, but they'd give reasons later on about sudden outbursts between JM and Sue's roles. It questions your tenacity, of what lengths you would do when it comes to love and emotional impediments. The film also takes a jab on how one would quantify happiness, contentment and one's ability to measure it.

Sue says "The topic is very sensitive, it's about silent battles. I hope people would be able to relate and understand this is a crisis. I hope the weight comes across the screen and the character. I'm so nervous, but the deeper meaning will be shown when you see the film. This is really a good film and we enjoyed making it, I hope people would go to theaters because I'm nervous if it didn't have days on the theaters."

JM says "I didn't really have a hard time doing this because I did a lot of research and I'm working with Sue. It's going to be relatively easy to understand what they are going through, without spoiling.. it's about remaining with the person and love. Sue doesn't act, she lives the character."

Here's the press conference on video:

JM and Sue really took their characters to heart. You'll have a bout of trying not to cry when they show closeup shots of them on screen. If there's a flaw, probably audio because there were several instances when I heard lengthy supposed quiet times that had high pitched sounds interfering (either from the movie theater or the actual edit).

Again, LASTING MOMENTS will show in theaters this July 30th. JM and Sue are phenomenal actors and there's no question, films that include them must be seen. See why folks beside be cried on some scenes. Congratulations to the cast, Direk Fifth and PASSION5 Studios!

JENNYLYN MERCADO, DENNIS TRILLO, SAM MILBY for Romantic Comedy EVERYTHING ABOUT MY WIFE

Friday, February 14, 2025

Finally had the chance to talk to the cast of EVERYTHING ABOUT MY WIFE yesterday at their mediacon. For starters, Jennylyn Mercado has been heavily missed, and she's working with her hubby Dennis Trillo in this movie. They're also doing this with Sam Milby, a proper character for the man who looks like a true blue Cassanova, so when they showed this a couple months back, I was so excited for it.

The event was also graced by co-stars Ms. Carmi Martin, Alex Agustin, Polo Laurel, Joyang of TikTok fame, Chico Alicaya and Karlo Aranza.

The plot is simple, Jen and Dennis' characters are married, they get bored and irate over the continuous yapping, felt about to give up, then Sam's character comes along. With a sculptured physique, smooth talk, will they give up their marriage or stay? Imagine the situations left for imagination, the journey must have been filled with hurt, funny clap backs, thirst traps and romantic talk.

Director Real Florido says "There is a need for romcom films. I've been doing indie movies, started it about 10 years ago. I've done 2 Cinemalaya entries, but I feel it's not Indie vs Commercial films anymore. The lines are blurred. You make it now because you are a filmmaker. Romcoms have the same importance as with other genres. We tell stories that inspire and sometimes pull heartstrings. It's one of the reasons we do films like these, because they want to see it and the public demands it. Filipinos are suckers for love, we want that fleeting feeling, we want to laugh and cry with the characters we see on screen. We do that with friends, we talk about our relationships, open up about it, and we relate to them too. It's always a part of conversations, and makes us feel alive."

Dennis told us "It's fun to make films like these because it's relatable, to do characters that are universal. For artists like us, we do these like ourselves, we are husband and wife in real life. Some of the scenes here are things we also do."

Jen added "Like what Dennis said, it's familiar territory. We enjoyed it though, and working with my husband is such a joy. It's feels so good to do scenes, and I'm sure when people see it, they will relate to our characters."

Sam says "It's hard, a challenge for me to do this character. They say I shine when I'm evil, but Miguel is a Cassanova, a womanizer. Direk was there to help me out. I'm a shy introvert, so this one is overly confident, and I try to be out of my comfort zone to do this."

Here's the whole mediacon on video, please sub, and enjoy!

The producer CreaZion Studios was represented by their CEO RJ Agustin. For those who want to see it, the film will be shown on February 26th. The premiere night will be on the 25th at SM Megamall if I'm not mistaken so if you want to see the stars, you should go there! This is produced by CreaZion Studios and GMA Pictures. Jen and Dennis was thought to have produced this too but no, because this came before Green Bones and their production outfit was launched last year.

Go watch it in cinemas! See you there!

BARBIE FORTEZA and DAVID LICAUCO Wishes Box Office Success for "THAT KIND OF LOVE"

Monday, June 24, 2024

Looks like the quest of finding love will be easy when you watch this new movie called THAT KIND OF LOVE. This stars well loved pairing Barbie Forteza and David Licauco, popularly known as #BarDa.

They've been really followed quite intensely during GMA series "Maria Clara at Ibarra", but this is the first time that they are doing a movie, under neophyte Pocket Media Productions Inc. The material was crafted by Ellis Catrina who has made this specifically for them. This is directed by Catherine O. Camarillo, who's first film under the same outfit "Chances are, You and I" was well received by critics for its very compelling story.

"That Kind of Love" will be featured  in Japan as a spotlight entry under the Jinseo Arigato International Festival. This will be held in Nagoya, Japan. While the local screening will start on July 10th which is a few weeks from now. They will also be doing a premiere night on July 4th, so make sure you go and support them (especially if you are a BarDa fan). Know that parts of the movie has been shot in South Korea. Both Barbie and David enjoyed doing scenes in Seoul where much of the shoot happened.

Barbie says "There were so many risks done in making this movie. There is pressure, much so because people are just starting to go back to cinemas. But I am confident about our project, our film, because who doesn't want to feel good? to fall in love? This is what we want to offer, and our goal is for you to fall in love with David once you go out of the theater."

David adds "We are pressured, but I know how good the material is. This is also directed by Direk CC. As long as we do our part in promoting the film, I know this will do good in the box office. I can control the things that I can do, so we just have to promote and help the movie."

People have already seen the trailer, and had really good feedback. The Director mentioned how this is not the work of one person, but a lot of people who did their best to make this movie what it is now. It's a quality film, and Barbie wants people to patronize the movie based on its merits, and because it is done excellently. She also hopes that Filipinos start watching Filipino made films first before they venture on watching other films from different countries. Here are parts of the press conference where we asked questions for Barbie, David, Ms. Arlene Mulach, Divine Aucina, Ivan Carapiet and Jef Gaitan who were there that afternoon. .

As of today, word has it that the fan base of both Barbie and David are arranging block screenings in different theaters nationwide. They are also asking Sparkle management for a little lee way in their schedules so they could attend the screenings as they happen.

I felt how happy Ms. Arlene was when she told the story of how kilig she got when she saw Barbie and David portrayed Mila and Adam. Will this perfect guy fall in love with the dating guru? Who knows! Best to watch it in cinemas when it goes out on the 10th!

Romcoms have certainly been a hit in the movies, it makes you smile automatically when you think of that one special romantic moment in your life... and this is where Mang Tomas is banking on. Janine Gutierrez and JC Santos Extremely Happy for the Success of DITO AT DOON

Thursday, May 13, 2021

Just got off the thanksgiving virtual party of the film Dito at Doon starring Janine Gutierrez and JC Santos under TBA Studios. In it we got to talk to the cast and the people behind the film, seeing them reap the fruits of their labor, they've really had tons of support from their fans and industry friends. During the last presscon, we were with Ricky Lo asking questions, sad that he's gone. The event started with a pause to commemorate the journalist who also supported the film.

Direk JP Habac says "My only birthday wish is that more people would be able to watch the film. The experience in the cinemas is really different, if this would be shown there, there would be a bigger chance to be seen by people, you get to see how they react, interact with other movie watchers, hopefully we can do that."

Yesh Burce says "Thank you to everyone who watched Dito at Doon, to everyone in the press who have shared their thoughts about the film. I'm sure there will be a lot of people that will watch the movie after this event."

Lotlot De Leon says "Janine already knows what she's doing, she has planned her life, I'm happy with that. She's old enough to make decisions on her own and she is doing it at the right time. I'm proud to see my daughter grow into this business, there will be more projects with TBA and I'll be looking forward to that."

Victor Anastacio "I'd like to thank TBA Studios and the streaming sites we got worldwide, we also thank the press for all your help. This film has hope and it is relatable, we didn't imagine that this will happen to all of us. This is how we experienced things and we showed hope amidst the circumstances. I think I appreciated it more because it's not just a traditional romcom, it's like the pandemic is another character, which makes sense. You can't plan everything, you have to be open, and make the most out of it."

JC Santos says "I am truly grateful for TBA who took care of us, I am happy to have been part of something that was created during the pandemic. We are happy to see those who have seen the movie and gotten lots of positive feedback about the film. I've found home with TBA. My favorite scene was the harana scene, they're taking it to the next level there and it's like offering a piece of your soul. It's one of the things I wanted to see again. This film is important, in this time and age, hope is all we have as we all are in survival mode. I mean it's a different feeling inside the cinema, I still want to see my armpits that huge on screen. I think it's a different thing that people feel when you see that, you have no choice but see it as a spectator, I miss that feeling. I think it will be different when you see it there. I enjoy my work as an actor, I went from my community to UP and doing acting jobs on screen. It's a good feeling not to have sleep, that's when I get challenged more, this is so much fun. The people are great, and I enjoy the whole process. When I accept projects my first question is... have I already done this role? because that's where it starts. I have had to decline a few projects because I was advised by my Manager, and because of circumstances that are beyond my control, and it's different in festivals. This one is different, it's kinda like a disaster movie. When I probably have a hand to finish this, perhaps I'd like to see my character be happy and be home with his family, not to spoil it, but I'd like to see him happy there."

Janine says "I hope to really make another film with TBA and I've always seen several of their movies. To be able to do this and in this story, I felt all the support of the press and I can't thank you enough. You really did stand along with us during our promotion. I have many favorite scenes, but I love how it ended. I was shocked to see that part because how it was edited. It's different. The film projects hope, TBA took risks and chances to produce a film despite the situation, and as seen on the film's performance, we're hopeful it is viable to have movies be watched even at home. It's different in movie houses, and a different experience to watch at home, but yes I hope to achieve what JC Santos get to have when its shown on cinemas. Rejection in the industry is so hard to still accept, I still audition, I have a certain sense that they have control over your future, but I chose to stay because I know I needed to stick it out, to do my best, do the things that make me closer to my dream and I'll get there. Accepting roles also depends on the script, to the people I'm working with. In this film, I just said YES PLEASE when I heard JC Santos and JP Habac. I'm happy a lot of people are appreciating it. If I'd be choosing where my character ends, I think it would be good if she just doesn't close doors or the possibility of welcoming another person, another love. I'd be happy already if she does that."

Now if you haven't watched DITO AT DOON yet, it's something that'll make you wonder about OUR current situation and the relationships we build and keep. Stream it on Upstream, Cinema 76, Ticket2Me, KTX.PH and globally via TBAPLAY on the Google Play store. Go install it and see why people are asking for part 2!

Romantic Flick "Dito at Doon" Deserves a Part 2

Saturday, April 03, 2021

Arlene Esguerra and Carlo Cabahug truly didn't start in the wrong foot. The pandemic put them both in a predicament that they didn't want to endure, much like us today who's been in our homes for a year or more already.

Love at this time? Maybe, but these consequences of their interaction on social media would say otherwise. Actually, an impossibility. During this time, Len got what she deserved, which is real talk from her friends. She spent most of the time talking to plants and making viral dalgona coffee, things we did during the start of the pandemic. Direk JP Habac framed this quite nicely, really close to reality. Len's Mom, her friends were essential to the story. They confirm things, they put things she does into perspective and get her grounded. Cab on the other hand was the typical Filipino OFW story, well almost. You'll see his story unfold during small talks with Len as they discover each other. They might need to drink every once in a while to release inhibitions, and that's kinda fun if you think about it.

I like the romantic angles, on how their once impossible relationship might become something. In an eve where people are supposed to be apart, here they are making landi and its a good thing. It felt good for the soul, but without titles, will that affect them?

This film touches on so many realities. It talks about our dreams, our loved ones, a little hope, some drama, home sickness, our self worth, anger and frustrations. What is there for us when all is in shambles?  Janine Gutierrez and JC Santos did good in this film, I hope they do a part 2 because honestly, the thing deserves one. This is under TBA Studios and WASD Films. You can watch it via KTX.PH, Cinema76@Home, iWantTFC, Upstream or Ticket2Me.

You can stream it digitally today!

Insight 360 Outs New Film Starring Kakai Bautista and Zoren Legaspi

Saturday, January 16, 2021

I have seen the films ECHORSIS (2016 award winning gay comedy horror themed film) and Mia (2020, environmental themed) which was produced by Chris Cahilig under Insight 360 Films. These were well made and talked about very pressing issues. This time, they released the next one (through a teaser), a very promising one at that called "Miss Q & A: Para sa magaganda lang ba ang love life?".

The film is directed by Lemuel Lorca who's got several awards on his belt, while the screenplay was done by John Bedia in collaboration with Lorca and Cahilig. It stars Dental Diva Kakai Bautista and the immortal, vampire like leading man Zoren Legaspi. Yes, it looks like an odd combination but producer Chris Cahilig puts this as a way to believe in love. Check out this teaser they released a couple days ago so you get to know what I'm talking about. This also features the song "Halika" which is written and sung by Seth Dunga. This is also available in digital stores and Spotify if you want to hear more of it.

This film might be a romcom, but it feels more dreamy and romantic. Though it really asked that question that nobody would often do. Though successful, Kakai's character is portrayed here as the one less fortunate in the looks department, but their interactions say otherwise as Zoren became the perfect gentleman, going through the experience of dating in a theme park and swooning the lady he's with. Zoren looks so good on screen, and the way Kakai takes in his efforts, felt so genuine Honestly, I'm pretty excited to see this on silver screen, but things are still a little dangerous out there that this might be shown soon on digital channels, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, listen to the "Halika" which will be the official soundtrack for this film on Spotify. I'm sure you would mistake it as a foreign artist just like I did earlier. Pretty good in my books!

Heartwarming Storyline: Write About Love to Impress at MMFF

Wednesday, December 11, 2019

Missed this event but we had our compadre Jim of mrjimboy.com cover for us at the premiere night of Write About Love, a supposed romcom film produced by TBA Studios as entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. Unbeknownst to those who have not watched it yet (of course including you as it's gonna be shown Christmas Day) the film is about two writers bound to clash creatively as one is rooted in making indie and the other is more mainstream films.

TBA Studios shot this a few months back, but the movie has transcened from being solely a good story. Albeit this is Director Crisanto B Aquino's directorial debut, he managed to put out inordinate conflict between the writers and squeeze in a considerable amount of affairs for the heart despite being attached to different parties. It likens the heartfelt fascination between their minds as they take directions in interpretation, though one asks, how did they get to spark interest after that?

The story borders mainstream and indie too, which hell approaches in telling an inception love story. #WriteAboutLove isn’t a typical romance film that would go the lengths of introducing a boy to a girl, in awkward situations, no love at first sight because they took time to grow on you. It makes you think of your own perception of love. It makes you question what love is — the kind that's not limited to romanticism, of terms of endearment and labels. The movie takes the path of cracking sick in making decisions — either good or bad. It makes you decide on what kind of story you put out there, and involve your own life. As funny as it sounds, we invest ourselves in work and relationships.

Write About Love is unconventional, it stands out from the run of the mill formulas they usually do. The film is not at all cheesy, but it puts tiny moments that are cute, heartwarming and captivating. Kudos to several iconic lines they delivered as expected with experienced actors like Joem Bascon and Rocco Nacino. Likewise with Miles Ocampo and a tad different Yeng Constantino. They also equipped it with an ambrosial musical score (by THE Jerrold Tarog), and be assured you'll cry a few times in 4 scenes. They delivered them all subtly and effectively.

You will see Rocco Nacino’s best performance to date, even if they're a new pairing, he didn't get awkward with Miles at all. He deserves a huge part on the back for riding his bike from his DOTS shoot, and back after the Premiere Night. Talk about dedication no? Joem Bascon is also on a league of his own, he didn't shortchange his role at all.

It would be a good film to watch this Christmas, especially for those who have weird and unconventional relationships. Write About Love is part of #MMFF2019, take a moment to get this as part of your list when theaters open this Christmas day!

Unlikely Pair Doing Romcoms: Gelli and Bayani for PANSAMANTAGAL

Thursday, March 14, 2019

Pansamantagal by Joven Tan holds a lot of promise. They’re not your usual eye candy pair but if you’re combining Gelli De Belen and Bayani Agbayani in a romcom, you’ll definitely get a lot of laughs without even doing complicated things relationship wise. This is produced by Horse Shoe Studios and will be in theaters come March 20. What do they have to offer you say? We asked them during the presscon this afternoon.

Gelli says “ The landscape of promoting things is just so different. In a span of two days our trailer got 3-4 Million views and I hope it translates into the same amount of people who will watch it. It was a friday, it was supposed to be a short trailer for us to view. In this day and age, I thought it was going to be hard, my advise is to get the perfect one, try to make it work, but if you have the signs it won’t work, don’t force it. Move on to the next one. The last movie I made was Sikreto ng Piso, there is no recovery from the talk you do in this project. It is something I have never done and I found it different because it is real. I have a lot of inappropriate words, 14 to be exact, and being with Bayani now is just the same as before. It is less inhibited, he doesn’t care how it looks, but he just is conscious about making it better. We are both more open in exploring our roles. The film industry isn’t dying, we are getting better than 5 years ago. I don’t think it will be bigger than before, because we have a lot of medium, you have to pay for it on streaming sites, but there are still people there who would gladly spend for it and watch. Here I didn’t have to think of things, it is feel good, I just had to do it.“

Bayani adds “I was so happy Chacha is part of this because I felt she was doing it in sync with Ms Perla Bautista, she was that good. This project won’t be seen by kids, it needs a funny mature audience. When we were sent a copy of the trailer, I posted it with friends on Facebook and I didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to be posted yet, I couldn’t take it back because it already went viral and marketing was so mad that I did that, it wasn’t color graded yet, the sound wasn’t done yet but it was already there. In relationships, I usually enjoy the moment, it happens in real life. If you want lessons, go to school, but the time you will lose is something you would regret, so don’t make it a big deal. I am a fan of movies, this one has spunk, this is different and should be something I could proudly say you have never seen something like this. It is the first time you’ll see a movie of this kind. I have a lot of patience, we have worked before in gag shows but being paired in a dramedy of sorts is fun, we are very comfortable and help each other so we throw lines and have lots of materials. When I asked Chacha, I just told her to be more natural. I did miss being the lead actor, I pray for it but I do not force things. I had to hug my director a lot because this happened, I was overwhelmed and I had to do drama in it. We had paranormal activities. I did expect Gelli to be this way, you guys don’t know how she is in real life. The dialogue is risky and it is so different to do things like these in films. I haven’t been paid yet, maybe if Joven Tan earns they will pay me on Wednesday. There are tons of producers who want to make films, we have good directors and cinematographers, I go to festivals and support other ones, they are all good, it’s not dying. Maybe the less people watching in cinemas but it is improving. I was dreaming of working with Gelli and when I saw her, we felt easy because we have common friends. We had to work with Direk’s system, I get goosebumps doing what he wanted us to do. It was magic!“

Dj Chacha of MOR 101.9 also is part of this movie. She says “ I am so happy to be part of this, I was afraid at first because I have experienced people in the industry that has attitude, but these guys are so fun to be with. I only had two things I had to prioritize which is my DZMM stint in the morning and the evening MOR program that I had. Pansamantagal is like my story, I am getting married soon to a man that I thought was only temporary. When I first worked with them, I already have an idea how Bayani works but with Ms. Gelli, I was a bit shy. They both were very nice, so it was easy later on. I didn’t know how to cry on take, so I was expecting the director to scream at me. I wasn’t a DJ here, I am going to be invested in their characters and going to be a little too nosy. We just eat and talk about things, normal things, I was so impressed how Gelli and Bayani could switch acting on and off, roll around the sand but I couldn’t cry in seconds like they do, I hope I do get more projects, like something that would fit me and my schedules because it’s crazy.“

Two broken people find each other in the most weird hours of their lives, maybe, just maybe, this may spark their relationship. Their trailer already had millions of views, more so the interest in Eric Allen’s theme song for the movie and Johnvic De Guzman’s cover of another song. The trailer shows how fun this would be, you just have to take a look at it when it hits theaters on the 20th!

It is funny AF!

Pepe Herrera and Ritz Azul for Regal’s The Hopeful Romantic

Monday, September 10, 2018

Topel Lee has done several of Regal Films movies and among them are the iconic Shake Rattle and Roll series which has been a regular in Metro Manila Film Festival, but this time he’s doing a light romcom, which is pretty far from what they do. Though it looks and feels weird, the trailer for this new movie just looks so promising. First off, you cast a young man, a veteran theater and character actor Pepe Herrera, then form a connection with vixen and drama actress Ritz Azul, wouldn’t that be interesting?

During the press conference held last week, a couple of questions were asked that delved around him being not much good looking and her being the gorgeous gal. Though I couldn’t really point out who asked that question, it’s a formula that have been successful in Hollywood movies - and Disney toons too. Like Beauty and the Beast, things around that genre kind of reminds me of this flick. Pepe plays an innocent man named Jess, who you could gladly level with a regular joe, or a wallflower. Ritz on the other hand plays Veronica, a prized catch, a trophy wife material, would they be a likely couple? I feel that’s not even a question of a possibility, because in this day and age... anyone can love somebody, I picked that up in their conversation a few days ago.

Pepe even shared that if there’s something nice he finds in Ritz, it’s her ability to be like a man, like a cowboy, because he was raised by his Mom who he says is a legitimate Alpha Female. Ritz on the other hand says if she would need to identify something lovely with Pepe, it’s his ability to care, and his eyes. She says it tells a lot and I don’t blame her. He really looks like he’s got a lot of stories in between those ears. I wouldn’t be surprised if they would like each other in real life.

Anyway, I’m going to watch the movie in a few minutes, I’ll tell you if it’s good or not. But so far, with the way they are telling things, this is a good story of love.

You should probably watch it too! It comes out on theaters this September 12. This is under Regal Films.

Make Sure You Watch The Write Moment

Saturday, June 30, 2018

I missed to watch this during the premier night and managed to only see it yesterday. I had high hopes because talking to them a few days ago already got me hooked, as this movie is based on real life experiences of writer and director Dominic Lim.

For starters, it’s not a rom com (some parts perhaps), if I had one word to describe it, it’s a huge FRUSTRATION. I’ve never been affected by a film about relationships, a shady one, which tells me my personal story would have been a good one because other people didn’t have closure, nor the ability and capability to move on. It’s IN YOUR FACE reality budding on how they tell no person should leave a person hanging. Doing that would only lead to pain, suffering, for one or more party. Ahh I don’t want to spoil things for you, I’ll let Jerald Napoles and Valeen Montenegro do the talking.

Now showing on these theaters

Provincial cinemas

I need not convince you to actually watch this because just like me, you'll be recommending this to your friends once you come out of theaters. This surprised me in so many ways, you will be too if you watch this in these selected theaters. It's good to finally watch something worthwhile in Philippine cinema. You can't argue with that.

You'll relate to him in so many circumstances, no matter how crazy you think he may be. This is brought to you by IdeaFirst Company.

Foolish Love from Regal Films

Thursday, January 19, 2017

It's a day for love, romance and a little funny. On January 25, 2017, Angeline Quinto, Jake Cuenca, Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida will make you fall in love with 4 new characters in the movie entitled FOOLISH LOVE which is produced by Regal Films. This is their first movie this year and it couldn't come at an opportune time because Angeline Quinto has improved a lot since "That Thing Called Tanga Na". They also have paired her with hunky Jake Cuenca who's surely going all out after doing acting school and several master class opportunities in the US. Direk Joel Lamangan has nothing but good words for them. Angeline plays a crazy love thirsty woman who wanted to have Jake Cuenca to be the man of her dreams. He turns out to be a different kind of guy and it'll be a riot from there. Will love be enough to fix this relationship? We're not sure, but Angeline gave off a very convincing love scene with Jake in this movie... so that alone is something to watch about.

Aside from that, this is the first time that Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida are going to be seen on silverscreen. ToMiho as fondly called by their fans would actually be a great addition to the ensemble as baristas in the film. Now imagine Miho being actively sought after by her boss played by funny man Jerald Napoles. She still wants Tommy but would probably be afraid to get fired anytime if her boss finds out. Tommy and Miho are inseparable, so if you're looking for reel and real romance then they would gladly show you how.

"Sometimes I forget the script and I'm glad I have my co actors to ask for help. Of course I need to learn a lot about acting, but I'm glad I'm doing this with Tommy. Nakakabaliw naman talaga ang pagibig eh, pagperfect ang boring eh."-Miho Nishida

"I fight with Miho's boss in the movie and I'm suppsed to punch the boss and I'm hesitant to do that. Direk keeps telling me I can do it, I ended up punching him on the scene... for work! We want to be successful actors and even if we end up get paired with other actors, I suppose we can learn from that. Love is a beautiful thing, love is crazy"-Tommy Esguerra

"Working with Direk Joel you will learn a lot and this is the best take away, having a film with him." -Jake Cuenca

Dennis Trillo and Heart Evangelista for "Juan Happy Love Story"

Monday, May 02, 2016

If I didn't know their real life families, I'd believe that these two would look good together no? They're doing a cool romantic comedy flick in GMA called "Juan Happy Love Story". Dennis Trillo plays the role of Juan who's a notorious playboy whilst Heart Evangelista plays Happy, a hapless romantic and total opposite of Juan in the series. They shot this with a difference in concepts, with unprecedented camera angles and effects so this isn't gonna be the run of the mill romcom you often see in movies. It's different because you'll see them play a lot with love, romance, intimacy and passion. You'll see the views of men, how they react to certain situations and also women on why they do things.

Here's what happened during the press conference this evening:

The show starts on May 16, 2016 so you better watch it because you'll be laughing along with the cast, the story and what happens behind closed doors. So you can just imagine how cray this is gonna be.

Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana Stars in No Boyfriend Since Birth (NBSB)

Sunday, June 14, 2015

We had the chance to visit the set of No Boyfriend Since Birth, a film that brings together one of the most successful pairs in public TV Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana. TomCar has been able to transcend their past show together with Dennis Trillo and made MHL a common thing in Filipino homes, then made a film together last 2014 for So It's You. The team up today would make the same audience, the same thirsty romcom deprived people a little serving of Tom and Carla again. This is directed by Jose Javier Reyes and we also talked to him before the shoot.

Gerald Anderson and NBSB

Direk Joey says "I have students who are with me in this shoot, I'm passing on the torch to hopefully an even better generation. The story of this movie is about a girl who's obsessed about the guy she fell in love with in high school, whom she hoped is the guy that was named on a fortune telling session. She hoped it was Carlo, but when the guy came back there were just so many things that made it complicated. It's basically a comedy but we're deviating with something like a Wattpad story. It's going to be more simple. I worked with Carla in Somebody to Love and the most logical choice for the partner is Tom. It's been a while with Regal and this is a good comeback. Mike Tan will be like a third wheel, Bangs Garcia too. It tells about falling in love when you want to, when you had to but it won't work. Regal is trying to do something like Cinemalaya but for now they're thrust is working with young and promising directors. I'm line producing a lot of movies by other people, though not big budgeted, we're making them mainstream. There are so many successful ones now and hopefully we can give them a chance. We're also giving chances to new actors, because talents nowadays are so hard to find. They're lucky to last 5 years.

 Gerald Anderson and NBSB

In new breeds JM De Guzman is very promising although he was really very experienced already, Liza Soberano too, I may not be able to direct her but she's the next big thing. I love her face. Among the really new ones, I really believe in them. I'm back to teaching and back to La Salle, I'm doing a lot of things and I'm doing things that I want to do. Regal gives me independence and make new Directors, it's something that I wanted to do for a long time. I'm doing this for the new generation. It's an apprenticeship now but they decided to stay. No matter how many classes they take, it's different here. I even have my Assistant Director come from UP, there are really good ones there and I really encourage kids, if this is what they like I fully support them. This film will be released in September I don't know the next one but there are a few more that I'm going to do for Regal Films. I don't want to do MMFF anymore because it's commercial and you really have to battle with big studios there. Promo needs it. I loved the part where English Only Please because a blockbuster, it's not a great film but it's different and you offer something new and true with artsits like Jennelyn and Derek, I'm so happy for them. Also for That Thing Called Tadhana where the talents really shined."

When we sat down with them Carla Abellana said "We worked together for My Destiny last year but the movie, it's been a year. I believe it's very well known what NBSB means. I was 18 when I had my first boyfriend, every relationship was a chapter in my life, there's bitterness and sadness, there's always hurt and paint. The similarities between Carla and Carina is being hardworking, Carina on the other hand was just too expecting, I won't be like that. I listen a lot to Direk Joey because I know what demands he has for the character. She's a workaholic, young and determined wedding planner. She's got frustrations, I couldn't put down the script because I was always laughing alone and people were looking at me. It's that good and exciting. It's very fun. This scene is Carlo's brothers wedding. Carlo's ex ended up with his brother so you know it's awkward. There's a lot more into this story and you'll be feeling good after you leave the theaters, that I assure you. "

Tom on the other hand said "Here, I'm Carlo Mercado, I was medical student then but wanted to always be a photographer. I was Mr. Popular, a little cocky, attention of girls back in high school made him that way. He is funny but we haven't done much of it yet but it's something that a matured guy would probably do. I can relate to him, it's not love at first sight (the relationship with Carina), you always have to take a second look. He went to Canada and made his own adventures, sometimes it's a platonic thing in a different time. It happens in real life and friends find out that there's something there. People build from there, from a seatmate, to friendship, then to a relationship. I've seen unconventional things happen, and he understands it. That's what make this character very interesting and hopefully people would come to enjoy it when it shows in theaters soon!"

No Boyfriend Since Birth is written by Noreen Capili and this is produced by Regal Films. I hope people would appreciate this new TomCar pairing, they're cute together. Showing very soon!
